According to Maku, President Jonathan, while addressing the issue of the missing schoolgirls, said "wherever the girls are in the world, we will get them back, apprehend and punish the culprits."
"On the unfortunate kidnap of the Chibok girls, the security chiefs briefed the meeting on efforts so far made to locate and rescue the girls, and bring the perpetrators to justice. Extensive and intensive aerial surveillance by the Air Force has been carried out in all the routes leading into and out of Chibok up to the Chad and Cameroun borders. Other parts of Borno and Adamawa states are also under the searchlight. Every information relayed to security agencies has so far been investigated, including the search of all places suspected as a possible hide-away of the kidnapped girls", Maku said. Continue..

US embassy in Nigeria warns of possible terror attack on Sheraton Hotel in Lagos

Posted: 02 May 2014 12:44 PM PDT

The United States Embassy in Nigeria today Friday May 2nd issued a warning to U.S citizens, asking them to avoid Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, and also said 'groups associated with terrorism' are planning an attack on Sheraton Hotel in Lagos.

The warning was posted on their website here. Continue to read the full statement...

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends that U.S. citizens avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states because of the May 14, 2013 state of emergency proclamation for those three states by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As of late April, groups associated with terrorism allegedly planned to mount an unspecified attack against the Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria, near the city of Lagos. There was no further information regarding which of the two Sheraton Hotels in Lagos was the possible target, or if both of the Sheraton Hotels are possible targets. There is no further information regarding the timing or method of attack. U.S. citizens are cautioned to avoid these hotels at this time.
The security situation in the country remains fluid and unpredictable. The U.S. Department of State strongly urges U.S. citizens in Nigeria to keep personal safety and health in the forefront of your planning. We remind U.S. citizens to review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
The Department strongly advises U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Nigeria to enroll in the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). U.S. citizens without internet access may enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact you in an emergency.

Future says it didn't take him long to have sex with Ciara

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:57 AM PDT

While promoting his latest album that dropped last week, singer Future in an interview with Sway In The Morning radio show, opened up about some pretty private details about his relationship with his pregnant fiancée, Ciara. He told Sway it didn't take him long to get in the sack with the singer.

Excerpts from the interview below.
On how long it took before they went on their first date:
Probably, what….a week?

On how long it took him to get Ciara's goodies:
Wow. Man, it don't never take me long with nothing. (Sway: A couple months?) Couple months? It aint never took me a couple months for that. We gone just leave that off the record though. Continue...

On being proud to celebrate his relationship on his latest single "I Won," with Kanye West:
You always wanna stand out and give the culture something instead of taking something away. It wasn't expected at this time, for this generation.

On whether it was "love at first sight" for he & Ciara:
Uh, love at first sight? It most definitely was a chemistry there that was way different than I ever felt before. It was great. From the beginning, we hit it off well.

On which celebrity he'd pick to join them in the bedroom:
That's gone be hard. Probably J.Lo

On whether or not he cringes when he hears music from Ciara's industry ex-boyfriends:
Nah, because it's in the past. You got to think about it, I got kids. So, anytime my kids are running around the house….what if she felt like that about my kids? And they are in my life. Her past is no longer her future, I'm her future.

So, when she sees my kids that are always gonna be there, they're a reflection of me and can always remind her of their mothers. It's just something that you have to get over.

On why he's marrying her when he didn't marry any of his other babymamas:
I felt like at the place that I was moving and being in the music industry, she understood me. For me to be focused, somebody has to understand me. Understand my grind and understand my passion. We share the same passion…share the same love interest for this music. She understands. She understands when you're not always there.

Some people, when they grow with you, it's just hard for them to give that up.

Chibok schoolgirls: Nigeria police, SSS say at least 276 still missing

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:35 AM PDT

According to Premium Times, the Police Command in Borno state and the State Security Service (SSS) yesterday May 1st had a joint press conference at the headquarters of the Borno State Police Command where they stated that the actual number of missing girls is 276 and not 234 as earlier reported and could even be more.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, the Borno state Police Commissioner, Tanko Lawan said the figure they have is the authentic number as they have carefully gone round the Chibok village and its environ to collate the names of girls that have gone missing since April 14th when the school was attacked by the Boko Haram men. Continue...
"It is really difficult to say the actual number of girls that were abducted. This is because, students from other secondary schools within the catchment area were deployed to GGSS Chibok to write their final year examinations due to the peculiar security challenges in Borno State," the police boss said.
‪"The students were drawn from schools in Izge, Lassa, Ashigashiya and Warabe A. and that is why after the unfortunate incident, there were various flying numbers as to the actual number of girls that were taken away.
"The fact is that the number may likely change, especially when parents from some of the villages come forth and report the disappearance of their daughters. Most importantly, it is not the number that matters because all the girls are very important and we have to find them.‬
‪"There is serious collaboration between various security agencies at all levels towards rescuing the girls," Mr. Lawan said.
Commissioner Umar advised parents to come forward with the names and identities of their missing daughters so as to aid rescue efforts. He announced phone lines that have been made available for well meaning Nigerians to call if they have any useful information that would help facilitate the rescue efforts

The numbers provided are: +2348075897377;  +23481777309; and +2348036121490.

U.S offers to help Nigeria in hunt for abducted girls

Posted: 02 May 2014 05:53 AM PDT

The United States has offered to help Nigeria in the search for the 200+ schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram men on April 14th.
"We have been engaged with the Nigerian government in discussions on what we might do to help support their efforts to find and free these young women," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told a daily briefing. "We will continue to have those discussions and help in any way we can."
Harf did not elaborate on the kind of assistance Washington is offering, but said: "We know Boko Haram is active in the area and we have worked very closely with the Nigerian government to build their capacity to fight this threat." Continue...

Separately, a group of U.S. senators introduced a resolution condemning the abduction and urging U.S. government assistance in the rescue effort.
"The U.S. and the international community must work with the Nigerian government to ensure these girls are reunited with their families and deepen efforts to combat the growing threat posed by Boko Haram," said Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, the chairman of the Senate's African Affairs subcommittee, and one of the resolution's six sponsors.
In fiscal year 2012, the United States provided over $20 million in security assistance to Nigeria, part of that to build the country's military, boost its capacity to investigate terrorist attacks and enhance the government's forensic capabilities, she said.

Fresh Abuja blast leaves several people dead

Posted: 01 May 2014 11:16 PM PDT

I'm bringing an update on this now because I was on my way out of Nigeria last night when the news broke. Just landed to hear that 30 people may have been killed in the blast. Some media outlets are reporting as high as 70 while CNN puts the figure at 9, NEMA at 10 and the Nigerian police at 12.

The blast occurred last night Thursday May 1st around 8.20 at Karshi Taxi Park, very close to the scene of the April 14th bomb blast. It is believed that the explosion came from a bomb-laden white Volkswagen parked at the taxi park.

The bomb went off as residents of the area were returning home. Eye witnesses said bodies of some of the victims were scattered on the ground, while some were burnt beyond recognition.

A statement released by the NSCDC and NEMA said that 10 bodies were recovered from the scene while several others were taken to different hospitals.
"While security agencies have condoned off the area of the explosion in Nyanya, Abuja, response agencies have moved injured victims to hospitals and at least 10 lifeless bodies have been deposited in the mortuary while 13 unconscious victims are receiving medical attention in different hospitals in Abuja. Other injured victims too are being attended to." the statement read in part.
Some security sources said yesterday that they believe the bomb was set to explode early this morning, just like the Nyanya blast that went off as commuters gathered at the park to take transport to their various destinations, but something went wrong and the bomb accidentally went off, killing the driver and other innocent people who were about to board buses to leave the Abuja City Park. Meanwhile, NEMA has called onAbuja residents to donate blood to help victims of the blast. This can't keep happening. It just can't! See more pics after the cut...
