Charly Boy plans concert for late father

Posted: 05 May 2014 01:31 PM PDT

Charly Boy says he plans to hold a concert in memory of his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, who passed on yesterday Maay 4th. He said the concert, which will be put together to celebrate the life of his father, would feature artists like D'banj and Terry G.
Speaking with sympathizers at his residence in Abuja, Charly Boy said no one should weep for his late father "They should join in celebrating a life well lived." also went down memory lane on his relationship with his father
"My father was a good and great man, though we did not start off well because in the beginning he always felt I was too rascal. I did not obey orders and I got tired of his rules, regulations and restrictions so it was important that I go my own way. I thank God I did that because at long last since the past 25 years. I won the kind of respect I deserved from the man who thought that the direction I took was a wrong move. For the past 25 years, we bonded and I am proud to have had a father like him" he said.

Police deny arresting or detaining Chibok woman protester

Posted: 05 May 2014 12:59 PM PDT

The Nigerian police in a statement released on their website a few hours ago said the Chibok woman protester, Mrs Naomi Nyarda, who was reportedly arrested by the police was neither arrested nor detained. The police claim she was only invited for an interactive fact-finding session after which she was allowed to go home. Read their statement below...

"As part of measures geared towards eliciting useful information that could help security agents in the ongoing effort at finding and rescuing female students recently abducted by terrorists, suspected to be Boko-Haram, in Chibok, Borno State, Police Operatives this morning, 05/05/2014 invited one Mrs Nyadar Naomi Mutah, a native of Chibok and Deputy Director at the National Directorate of Employment, Abuja.
It was purely an interactive and fact finding interview. Mrs Nyadar cooperated with the Police in the course of the interview and was immediately allowed to return home to her loved ones. She was never arrested nor detained as being wrongly speculated in some quarters.
Meanwhile, the Police and other security agencies are leaving no stone unturned at ensuring that the abducted school children are rescued.

'I will sell them' - Boko Haram claims responsibility for kidnapping Chibok girls

Posted: 05 May 2014 12:31 PM PDT

"I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah. There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women." alleged Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video (he spoke in Hausa) that was released today.

There were reports about a week ago that some of the girls have been sold or married off for N2,000 each. With this new declaration from Boko Haram, it means the report is close to the truth. If they haven't been sold already, then they will soon...unless the Commander-In-Chief of the Armes Forces does something and does it fast. If you want to watch the Boko Haram video, go here

Graphic photo: Alleged police killing in Achara Layout, Enugu

Posted: 05 May 2014 12:03 PM PDT

Got a mail from Achara Layout Neighbourhood Association in Enugu state, telling a story of how one of their own was allegedly murdered by the Nigerian police on May 1st. See their mail below...
On the 1st May 2014, Chinedu Ejikere "Edu or Edu Wondon", (pictured above) the first son and the breadwinner of his poor family was brutally murdered by the Nigerian Police on Obioma Street, Achara Layout, Enugu after he had just gone over to see a friend from the close by Umunogo/ Obianodo Street where his mum owns a small grocery kiosk. Shot at close range in his chest region in what was apparently an illegal arrest went wrong. Continue..

Mr George Eluka of 16 Amawbia Street, Uwani, Enugu friends with Edu Ejikere initiated the supposed arrest of Edu as they had done a business dealing and Edu was owing him just over 100,000 naira so he went to the police and ordered for Edu's arrest.

While Edu was at Obioma Street, Achara Layout, having gone to see a friend, policemen in plain clothes then attacked him. They handcuffed him and started beating him up, and in trying to put him in the car, one of the policemen tried to poke him with a loaded gun and it fired. What then transpired after he was shot was an act of inhumanity. Having fired a gunshot, the police drew attention to what was happening as onlookers started running because they thought they were armed robbers.
The police left Edu on the road for dead and drove off, realizing he still had their handcuffs, which is a significant piece of evidence, reversed back to remove the cuffs on him and take their handcuffs thereby leaving no evidence. On arriving at the scene a crowd had gathered trying to help the young man who everyone in the area knew as a hardworking, jovial individual so the police started shooting into the air to disperse people and of course had everyone running for their lives again. While in the process of trying to remove the cuffs on him, the people started shouting trying to alert everyone to block the road with anything so they won't be able to leave. And they panicked and left without totally removing the handcuffs.
The members of the public then hurriedly took Edu to Eastern Medical Centre, Enugu where the doctors tried to save his life but failed.

The serial number on the handcuffs # 10338. A pic of Edu below...

*The update we are getting is that the squad that went to make the arrest are from SARS (Special anti-robbery squad) Enugu division and are aware of what happened but are still currently denying knowledge of the identities of the officers who went to make the arrest. Mr George Eluka who initiated the arrest is still currently on the run and hasn't been apprehended.

I have also attached a picture of the deceased Chinedu Ejikere before he was killed so people can see how lively the young man was.
Many thanks,
Achara Layout Neighbourhood Association.

Dear LIB readers: My girl is in an abusive relationship. What should I do?

Posted: 05 May 2014 03:24 AM PDT

From a male LIB reader
I am a 25 year old university drop out. Since I dropped out of school 2 years ago I've been without a job until I found one a year ago working in a fast food restaurant that also have a VIP bar which is my department. Eight months ago the fast-food hired a new supervisor. A smart and intelligent lady. After she settled into the company she started to come closer trying to get my attention and all. Being that am broke and really saving up to go finish my studies I paid no attention to her, focusing on my job and family. But then I fell ill and this lady showed me so much care that I fell helplessly in love with her. Four months ago we got some thing going, that was when I realized that she was going through a messy break up. But her ex won't let her be. Always harassing her. That was when I went to her friends and they told me that since they started dating, the guy always beat her up and that they've warned her to leave but any time she does he comes to beg with his sister.
My question now is that should I allow this guy kill her or should I do something because the girl is even hiding it from her own family. Should I tell her family what's going on or mind my own business and move on. But it will be sad to have to read about her death on this blog. Please I need advise. Ps. The first 50 comments shud be insult free then after that uu guys can knock urself out cus I personally enjoy the insult part.  thanks a bunch.

Benefits of using instant payment

Posted: 05 May 2014 12:37 AM PDT

Ever since the inception of the cashless policy in Nigeria, many people are yet to see any reason why they should switch to this method of doing easy day to day banking operations. For some it is due to lack of awareness and for others it's probably because they do not know the benefits they stand to get simply by adapting their daily lifestyle to this new and easy way. Continue...

Instant

Where's Delta bursary fraud whistleblower, Ambrose Ezewani?

Posted: 04 May 2014 11:16 PM PDT

It's easy for us all to move from this because this dude is not related to us or even someone we know personally...but if we as youths of this country keep quiet, this will continue to happen, and next time it could be you or me, or someone close to us.

The ex student of the University of Lagos and former President of the National Association of Delta State students, UNILAG chapter, was picked on Monday April 28th in Lagos by officials of the Delta State government after he blew the lid on a systematic student bursary racketing allegedly happening in the state. (In case you missed it, read here).

His friends say Ambrose hasn't been heard from since he was picked up last week. Where is he?

Woman sells her son’s baby for N350,000 in Imo State

Posted: 04 May 2014 11:29 PM PDT

According to Sun News, Mrs. Tina Iwuji, a 52 year old mother from Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, Imo State has been arrested by the Imo state police command for allegedly selling the two weeks old baby of her son's girlfriend.

Mrs Iwuji son, Emeka had impregnated his Lagos girlfriend, Esther Godwin, a native of Ndoki, Delta State and then decided to send her to his mother without telling his mum that he owned the pregnancy and also instructed Esther not to open up to his mother that he was the who got her pregnant.

Mrs Iwuji accepted Emeka's request and allowed Esther move into her house in January 2014. Esther eventually gave birth, and just two weeks later, Mrs Iwuji sold the baby for N350,000 not knowing she was selling her own grand daughter Continue...

Mrs Iwuji told Sun "It was my son Emeka Iwuji who brought Esther as a friend not a wife from Lagos to my home in Mbaise, Imo State. I asked Esther who was responsible for her pregnancy and she said it was not my son. I asked her what was her mission and whether her mother was aware that she came to Mbaise but she said no. She came to the house on January 7, 2014" she said

Esther gave birth on April 11th to a baby girl at Hope Clinic and Maternity, Mbaise and on hearing that she had given birth, Emeka asked his mum to facilitate means of selling the baby and the proceed given to Esther for her to use to further her education.

Mrs Iwuji then began mounting pressure on Esther and not too long a nurse, Eunice Eze, who is in the baby sale syndicate came into the picture and she contacted another lady, Patricia Njoku who then identified a willing buyer, Mrs Benardine Abara who needed a girl to compliment her three sons.

Even with all the contacts made, Esther was still not game to sell her child. Seeing that the young lady would not give-in, Mrs Iwuji connived with her brother to take Esther somewhere where her child was forcefully taken away from her and handed to Eunice who then sold it to Mrs Abara for N350,000.

Distraught Esther then went to the Mbaise police station to report the case and all the parties except Emeka have been arrested. It was at the station that Mrs Iwuji got to know that the baby she had been bargaining to sell all along was her own grandchild.

A shocked Mrs Iwuji said" "It was when I was arrested with the other people that Esther confessed that my son Emeka was responsible for her pregnancy. I was shocked."she said

Imo State Police Commissioner, Mr Abdulmajid says they would all soon be charged to court.

Abducted school girls: First Lady asks women to stop protesting

Posted: 04 May 2014 05:07 PM PDT

Patience Jonathan has asked women to stop protesting over the abducted Chibok girls, Daily Trust reports. Mrs Jonathan expressed her frustration yesterday evening at the unwillingness of the Borno state first lady and other Borno state women to work with her on the missing girls. She said she can't be crying more than the bereaved.

According to Mrs Jonathan who burst into tears as she expressed her displeasure, she said she had called for a meeting with first ladies of the various states as well as some borno state officials to enquire on how the girls were kidnapped and find a way out but was suprised to see that some first ladies attended but the first lady of the state were the unfortunate incident happened did not honour her invitation. Continue...

First Ladies of  Nasarawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Gombe, Benue, Abia and Akwa Ibom States attended the meeting as well as Borno State Commissioner of Police, Commissioner for Women Affairs, the principal of Chibok Government Secondary School, the chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, the divisional police officer in the area and the troops on duty when the girls were abducted.

A visibly disappointed Mrs Jonathan said Mrs Shettima was being unconcerned over the girls' abduction. She accused the Borno state women of playing games with the whole kidnapping story.
"Before all these killings, I called and told the first lady of Borno State to let us come together. She answered me yes, but when the kidnap happened, I called her, she did not answer me. I invited her, she did not turn up even up till today. No woman will fold her arms when her house is on fire. Today my house is on fire.
"Before last Friday, I called her and she promised to attend the Friday's meeting here. Bit to our greatest surprise, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. Also today, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. She is the mother of Borno State. She is the first mother of these missing girls. I am their grandmother. She is not coming out. All Nigerian women are calling her. If she is not concerned and she says she doesn't want her people to be safe, then it is left to her. If you tell us you are not crying, why should I cry more than the bereaved. If I cry more than the bereaved, the world would ask me a question.
"If after today, Borno women say we should not help them, then Nigerian women, don't demonstrate again. If you demonstrate and police do you anything, you are on your own. Borno women are playing games. Nigerian women should not go out for demonstration. Don't use school children for demonstration again. Borno women are not ready for cooperation"
"People are dying. How can you play politics when you see your fellow human beings dying. Nigerian women, I beg you to support me. Why we will join our husbands to kill others. We want the killings to stop. If we don't get to know the whereabouts of our daughters, the next thing is they (Boko Haram) will get to us. I am not accusing anybody. My own is let us stop killings and kidnapping. Let us put a stop to this.
"We don't know what might happen. We don't wear bullet-proofs. I am not exempting my self or my husband. If I am found guilty, let me go instead of blood to flow. If our constitution is the problem, let them amend it. Today's meeting will not end because the abducted children are still not out. If you say I should go and sleep, I would go and sleep. But if you say we should move forward to see the end of this, we would go forward", she said.

Presidential Media Chat: Some of the things our president said tonight

Posted: 04 May 2014 02:56 PM PDT

The 7th edition of the Presidential Media Chat has come to an end. A burning issue discussed is the missing school girls. President Jonathan said wherever the girls are, the military would get them. He said security personnel are working round the clock to rescue the girls and also pleaded with parents and guardians of the missing girls to cooperate with them to get the girls freed. He said no negotiation has taken place because no one or group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

On reports of them being married off, the president said "To who?". He said the Principal of the school told him that 53 of the girls have escaped from the kidnappers.

On people comparing the Niger Delta militants with Boko Haram men, he said the BH men are faceless and so makes it difficult to even have discussions with them. He said he first met Niger Delta warlords like Asari Dokubo in the state house in a meeting called by former Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo and the militant leaders were there to lay down their grieviances. He said Boko Haram men are terrorists as their ideology is different from that of the Niger Delta militants as those ones do not go about bombing market places and killing people. He said a lot more. Please continue...

On rumours of helicopters dropping food stuff for boko haram members, he said no one has come out with pictures to authenticate these claims. He said "One does not need network to take pictures" but no one has been able to take any picture showing helicopters dropping foodstuff'.

On why his government hasn't dared to go to Sambisa Forest where Boko Haram men are believed to be staying, GeJ said "If I go there or send any of my ministers they will just kill you."

On the Federal Governments directive of schools and Government offices to shut down during the World Economic Forum Africa which is to hold from Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th, he said the move was needful so as to control free flow of traffic. He said Nigeria is not the first place to do such and that when he was in Netherland for the Nuclear summit, some institutions were shut down during the course of the summit. He said that places like Davos where the World Economic summit takes place cannot close down institutions because every year the WEF takes place there and the place has been designed to host the world yearly. He said private enterprises were not compelled to close down but are only advised to close down so as to help traffic free flow.

On seeking international help for the security challenges Nigeria is facing, Pres. Jonathan said he has reached out to Pres. Obama twice on the matter and security personnel from America were sent down to Nigeria. He also said he has reached out to the Presidents of France, China and other neighboring countries such as  Cameroon, Ghana and Benin republic for assistance. On some Northern Governors visit to the US, he said it is not a Federal Government arrangement. He said he is always pained whenever he hears any Nigerian passes on as a result of the madness called Boko Haram.

On the Rebasing figures and unemployment, Pres. Jonathan said even with the Economy rebasing, Nigerian Government cannot employ everyone but would only create the best environment for the private sector to excel. He said it was a good thing for Nigeria to be hosting the WEF Africa and said according to the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, visitors for the WEF Africa have began to show interest in investing in Nigeria.

On the alleged missing $20b, Pres Jonathan said its now a phenomenon for any government in power in Nigeria to record a story of missing funds. He said with the money being claimed to be missing, such moneies would no doubt have adverse effect on the economy. He said if such amount of money is missing, America would know about it and said nobody should deceive themselves.

On Minister of Petroleum Dieziani Alison Madueke going to court to stop investigations on the N10b private jet scandal, Pres Jonathan said he is not aware she's gone to court. He said as a Minister, she has spent more of her time appearing before the parliament than doing her job and said it appears there is a case of parliamentary dictatorship by the members of the house of Representatives. He said they are all politicians and so would also bring politics into their activities. He said he does not see Dieziani as being corrupt and so cannot drop her as a Minister. According to him, there is nothing wrong in her hiring private jets and that other Ministers and politicians also hire private jets.

On his declaration to run again, he said he believes that is not what is important to Nigerians. He said security, food etc are the things on the minds of Nigerians and also said the PDP which is the "Champion, one with the cup" is waiting for the opposition to field their candidates so that the PDP would know who they are up against.

On claims that he said Boko Haram has infiltrated his cabinet, he said he never made such a comment, and that the way journalists twist words makes one wonder sometimes. He said what he said was that Boko Haram has infiltrated the Government which is made up of the Judiciary, Executive and the Parliamentary. He said he never said they have infiltrated his cabinet which is made up of the Vice President and the Ministers.

On the strike by Polytechnic lecturers, he said "we are handling it".

On the recommendations that would come out from the ongoing National CONFAB, he promised that whatever recommendations from the confab would not be stopped.

While ending the chat, Pres. Jonathan pleaded with the Parents and Guardians of the missing Chibok girls to come out with the identities of the missing girls. He said with the list from WAEC, its obvious that most of them, about 90% are Christians. He pleaded with the parents to cooperate with security agents.

Some of the comments he made
* "I don't know where they are… there is no confirmation of the location of the schoolgirls, you are a journalist, you know more than me."

* "If I exercise 40/50% of my powers, Nigerians would say I am a dictator. Some African leaders who used only 60 were condemned as dictators"

* "I assure you that we will get the girls out but we can only do it with the co-operation of their parents and guardians."

* "Over 70% of what they call corruption in Nigeria, is mere common theft. The word corruption is being abused, it's just mere theft."

* "Even when I'm in church I am monitoring what is happening. Anytime I get reports of an attack somewhere… my face will change immediately… my expression will change. It used to happen every Sunda

* "Anytime I hear of any one Nigerian dies I feel pained… even if it's a Boko Haram member – I am their president."y."

* "Pakistan terrorists have been fighting terrorism for over 10 years now so it's not something that a 6 months State of Emergency can solve."

* "The Petroleum Minister has appeared before the Parliament for over 200 days… in the Nigerian Parliament you'll agree with me that there is more politics than work."

* "People have been confusing corruption with stealing. If public officers steal money they term it under corruption…."

* "PDP is the champion. We are the ones holding the belt. We are waiting to see the challenger"

* "The popular Nollywood wasn't captured in the assessment of the economy as Africa's strongest'

* "If Sanusi hadn't been suspended he would have come up with a different figure… If anyone steals $50 billion or $20 billion anywhere America will know, they will tell you where it is; it is their money."

" Our washing machines have proven time and time again that they are second to none when it comes to performance and value," said Mr. Hyunwoo Jung, General Manager, Home Appliance Division, LG Electronics, West Africa Operations, "LG's proprietary 6 Motion Direct Drive technology is the magic behind our success and it's the type of innovation that will continue to drive us toward our goal to create value-added solutions which bring greater convenience and efficiency to our consumers' everyday life."
In this technological age, consumers have come to expect more from household appliances in terms of innovation, design and performance; LG continually delivers products that guarantee safety, reliability and durability adding to the credibility of the brand.
Last year, due recognition was awarded to LG Electronics by the certification of its DD (Direct Drive) motor which is a key component of a washing machine, by Verband Deutsher Rlektrotechniker (VDE) - German Association of Electrical Engineering, as a product with a life span of 20 years, the longest yet to be certified by the VDE.
LG Electronics is not slowing down where customer satisfaction is concerned, as it continues to set the pace for the competition by breaking new grounds through forward thinking inventions aimed at providing the "good life" to its consumers.
