Former Malawian Minister commits suicide after losing election

Posted: 22 May 2014 01:11 PM PDT

A former Deputy Minister of Local Government, Godfrey Kamanya (pictured above) reportedly committed suicide today May 22nd, barely a day after the Malawi elections results started filtering in showing that he'd lost the parliamentary seat he was competing for in the 2014 Tripartite elections.

According to local news report, Mr Kamanya shot himself around 3:30 this morning at his house in Area 10, Lilongwe after losing the Lilongwe Msodzi North Parliamentary elections this week.
"We had to break the door to his kitchen where he had locked himself up," Kamanya's friend also a member of Banda's People's Party - told Zodiak broadcasting.
In the suicide note, the former minister reportedly said he took his life because of misunderstandings related to politics and outlined how his wealth should be distributed to beneficiaries. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Photo: NDLEA arrests man with 2.6kg of cocaine packed as candies

Posted: 22 May 2014 12:51 PM PDT

52 year old Imo state born Onyejiaju Augustine was arrested yesterday by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for being in possession of 2.605 kilogrammes of cocaine packed as candies. He was arrested at the  Muritala Mohammed International Airport as he was about to smuggle the illegal drug out of the country en-route Etihad, Punch reports.

NDLEA spokesman Michelle Ofoyeju said Onyebuchi had been on the wanted list of the agency
"Augustine, who is a specialist in drug had earlier departed Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the illicit drug disguised as candies. He was, however, caught at the MMIA in Lagos."
Augustine when arrested said he was a supermarket operator in Brazil
"I own a supermarket in Brazil where I have lived since 2006. I bought the cocaine and concealed it as candies. It was unfortunate that the trick was discovered." he said
NDLEA said the man will be charged to court soon.

Charlie Sheen calls Rihanna an Idiot for snubbing him &his girlfriend

Posted: 22 May 2014 11:53 AM PDT

Actor Charlie Sheen went ballistic on Rihanna today after the singer snubbed him and his girlfriend at a restaurant last night. Charlie Sheen said he took his porn star girlfriend out for her birthday at the same restaurant as Rihanna and that his girlfriend, who is a fan had asked to meet Rihanna. But after RiRi turned down his request for an impromptu meet and greet, Charlie cuts loose on Rihanna via social media; Below is what he wrote
So, I took my gal out to dinner last night with her best friends for her Bday. We heard Rihanna was present as well. I sent a request over to her table to introduce my fiancé Scotty to her, as she is a huge fan. (personally I couldn't pick her out of a line-up at gunpoint)
Well, the word we received back was that there were too many paps outside and it just wasn't possible at this time. At this time? At this time?
Lemme guess, we're to reschedule another random 11 million to 1 encounter with her some other night...? Continue...
no biggie for me; it would have been 84 interminable seconds of chugging Draino and "please kill me now" that I'd never get back.
My Gal, however, was NOT OK with it.
Nice impression you left behind, Bday or not.
Sorry we're not KOOL enough to warrant a blessing from the Princess.
(or in this case the Village idiot)
you see THIS is the reason that I ALWAYS take the time.
THIS is why I'm in this thing 31 awesome years.
Good will and common courtesy, carefully established over time to exist radically in concert with a code of gratitude!
I guess "Talk That Talk" was just a big ol lie from a big ol liar.
oh and Riahnna, Halloween isn't for a while. but good on you for testing out your costume in public. it's close; a more muted pink might be the answer, as in: none.
See ya on the way down, (we always do) and actually, it was a pleasure NOT meeting you.
clearly we have NOTHING in common when it comes to respect for those who've gone before you.
I'm guessing you needed those precious 84 seconds to situate that bad wig before you left the restaurant.
Here's a tip from a real vet of this terrain; If ya don't wanna get bothered DONT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE!
and if this "Prison of Fame" is soooooooo unnerving and difficult, then QUIT, junior!

Chibok girls: Niger state cancels Children' Day and Democracy Day celebrations

Posted: 22 May 2014 08:28 AM PDT

The Niger state government today May 22 cancelled the forthcoming Children's Day and Democracy Day celebrations in the state. According to the state's Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Danladi Ndayebo, the celebration was cancelled because of the missing Chibok girls and the security situation in the country.

Briefing newsmen in his office, Alhaji Danladi Ndayebo said the Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Bababngida directed that both days be used to pray for the girls as well as the nation
"Owing to the security situation in the country, Gov. Babangida Aliyu has directed that this year's Children's Day and Democracy Day be used to seek God's face and intervention for the nation. The Ministry for Gender Affairs and Social Development will mobilise children on that day across the state to pray for the release of the girls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State." he said

Solange to write a tell-all book about abuse, Jay Z's cheating, Bey's fake pregnancy?

Posted: 22 May 2014 08:09 AM PDT

I absolutely don't believe this story because what sister would do that to her own blood? But let's carry it for entertainment purposes....:-). According to this week's In Touch magazine, Solange is writing a Tell-All book, and getting $20m for it. Below is what they wrote:
From cheating to abuse to fake baby bumps, Solange could reveal what's behind rumors that have plagued the famous family. . .
Solange is growing increasingly fed up with playing second fiddle to Beyonce, 32, and sources believe she's ready to spill the beans on everything from their estranged father to how Beyonce turns a blind eye to Jay Z's womanizing. "Solange was always in the background while Beyonce was the golden child," says a family friend. "She's sick of being held down and she's ready to fight back." Continue...

Lady claiming to be Joseph Yobo's mistress attacks wife Adaeze on instagram

Posted: 22 May 2014 08:31 AM PDT

I ask again, what  were our lives like before the coming of social media? The drama no be small thing. A person who goes by the name @uyyii on instagram has been attacking Adaeze Igwe Yobo, wife of footballer Joseph Yobo, claiming she's Joseph's mistress. Trouble started after Adaeze posted the pic on the left, and the lady dropped a comment saying - 'She's here taking selfies while her husband is fucking up and down'. The comment got a reply from Adaeze who said she doesn't care and that the writer is not alone. See above. The ladies exchanged more banters, see them after the cut

This Uyyii lady is wrong for this though...c'mon!

Getting posted to the north came as a big surprise to me because I thought I had put everything in place to ensure I was posted to Lagos. Nike, Tunji, Emeka, Dotun and the rest of them were all posted to Lagos, why me!!! Why did they send me here? Anyway I have to serve my country. I arrived camp late in the night and it wasn't as bad as I expected. There were civilized people in this part of the country and camp was even better. A lot of pretty ladies and in little time I got myself acquainted with as many as I could. Zara was a bit different, she was calm, collected and the most fascinating thing about her was the fact that she could fix electrical things, how cool is that! 3 weeks rolled by and we were set to leave camp, Zara and I were posted to the same community but to different schools, we had a corpers lodge and that's where we stayed. We were like husband and wife because we did everything for each other. She would help me fix my spoilt electrical appliances and in return I would help her with water. After about 3 weeks in our new PPA, we ran out of cash.
All I had was N30 and she had N75 and absolutely NOTHING in our bank accounts. *see gobe* I thought to myself. It was 11am on a bright Saturday morning, we would have to wait till Monday morning before we could be sent money …."you're good with fixing things, fix this hunger in my stomach before I faint o"I said to Zara. She laughed so hard her phone dropped on the floor. That was a simple joke I racked to lighten our mood. She dusted her phone and moved some feet away from me. I could only see her mouth moving but couldn't hear her conversation over the phone….after about 3 minutes she beckoned at me and said "let's go, you this hungry boy".
We put the money together and boarded a tricycle and after walking for about 10 minutes we got to magrelos a fast food with more meal on their menu than customers. It's a hungry man's haven. I would have been happy if that was our destination, I could smell their freshly baked bread from across the road and it all just increased the activity of the worms in my stomach, the hunger just doubled. She crossed the road and I followed, opened the door of the eatery and that was where I refused to enter. Zara we both know we're broke, what are we doing here? I asked .  Just follow me joor she said. When she started ordering was when I started shaking, I can't wash plates to settle my debts o I thought. At that moment the waiter asked what I wanted and I started to stammer. Zara laughed her heart out because she knew my fears, she handed over her bank cards and my heart sank, the POS printed a receipt to my surprise, but but…how did that happen?  After gouging myself with fried rice, grilled chicken and salad then ordered extra take away for later consumption, guilt started to set in and I was forced to ask "how did you do all this" Her dad had transferred funds to her account and she paid for all the food using POS. What a wonderful way to learn about instant transfers, over lunch with my super hero friend.

Military takes over power in Thailand

Posted: 22 May 2014 05:48 AM PDT

Thailand military today Thursday May 22nd announced it has taken over government in Thailand, saying it was "necessary to seize power." following the six months of political deadlock the country has faced. In a nationwide broadcast this morning, Head of Thai Army, Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, made the announcement flanked by senior military officers.
"It is necessary for the Peace and Order Maintaining Command – which includes army, navy, armed forces and police – to take control of governing the country," he said
Thailand has been under political unrest after its citizens took to the streets in Nov. 2013 demanding that their Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, step down after being accused of being a proxy for her popular billionaire brother, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who was forced out of office in 2006 after a military coup & now lives in self-imposed exile to avoid a jail sentence on corruption charges.

Graphic photos: Genocide committed in Borno State? OMG!

Posted: 22 May 2014 05:28 AM PDT

I cannot verify the authenticity of what you are about to read and see but according to a popular Muslim cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmu Gumi, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, he claims the men lined up are young Almajiris who were executed without trial as Boko Haram members in Borno state. He claims vigilante groups would move into the villages, pick up young men, take them to the field and kill them. He said this is how some innocent people are killed in the name of fighting Boko Haram. He shared four photos...find them after the cut...but viewer discretion advised. It's quite graphic...

Girl forced to watch her father/brother killed by Boko Haram tells her story

Posted: 22 May 2014 12:46 PM PDT

15 year old Deborah Peter, a Chibok indigene who now resides in Virginia, USA, was at the Capitol Hill, D.C yesterday May 21st, where she narrated her experience in the hands of Boko Haram. Deborah was at the US congress in her capacity as a Boko haram survivor, to lend her voice to the #bringbackourgirls campaign, as members of the congress debated on how to effectively win the war against the radical Islamic sect that abducted over 200 girls in Chibok on April 14th.

Deborah told the story of how her father, a Christian pastor who had been asked to deny his faith and her brother were both killed in a singular attack on the evening of Dec 22 2011 by three members of Boko haram. She said the men shot her dad 3 times on the chest and as they deliberated on whether to kill her brother, her dad breathed his last when he heard gun shots fired at his son, Caleb.

Deborah said she was then asked to lie in between their corpses. She laid there until the next morning when she was rescued by a local Pastor who paid for her to be transported out of the region. Sadly, the pastor who assisted her was also killed in 2013 by the sect men. Continue...

During her presentation, Deborah held up a paper sign reading "#BringBackMySisters" for video cameras and photographers.
"I decided to tell the world my story when the Chibok girls were taken because everyone needs to know how horrible Boko Haram is. They kill innocent people who never hurt them. I want the world to understand what happened to me. I hope the kidnapped Chibok girls will take courage from my story, and know more of what God says, and know what it means to stand strong in the face of bad people." she said
Deborah was asked to describe how she felt about Boko Haram after all she had been through and she replied "It's a hard question. I think they're bad. I can't judge them. The Bible said do not judge."

Son of pregnant Sudanese woman sentenced to death forced to live in her prison cell

Posted: 22 May 2014 04:39 AM PDT

The young son of the pregnant 27 year old woman, Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag (pictured above), who was sentenced to death in Sudan last week for Apostasy (her crime was marrying a Christian man - read here) is forced to live in jail with his mom. Meriam who is reportedly shackled & bleeding in her prison cell, is expected to give birth to her second child on or before June 1st, Hollywood Life reports.
We thought that Meriam's story could not get any worse, but it has. It turns out that while a very pregnant Meriam awaits her death sentence in prison, her precious little boy has been forced to live inside her prison cell with her. Meriam will also have to care for her unborn baby in that cell once it is born.
The UN is intervening and trying to save an 8 month pregnant woman from the death penalty in Sudan who married a Christian man….
Reports claim that the Sudanese government will not allow Martin's father to care for him while Meriam is in prison solely because he is both a Christian and an American citizen. Continue...
Meriam is currently in prison because she refused to renounce her Christianity in front of a Sudanese court. Because she was born in Sudan and is therefore automatically considered a Muslim by their government, they have condemned her for committing apostasy.

Since Sudan sees her only as a Muslim, they refuse to acknowledge her marriage to a Christian man. Therefore, the court was also able to charge Meriam with adultery.

Meriam has been sentenced to 100 lashes for adultery, but will ultimately be killed when she is hanged for committing apostasy. The court has allowed her time to birth and nurse her baby before she will be killed.

Meriam's husband has also been to visit her in prison when allowed and the description of what he found is almost unbelievable.

As soon as he heard that his wife was in prison and facing death, Daniel hopped a plane from his New Hampshire home and flew back to his homeland of Sudan.

After his visit, Daniel claimed that his wife was shackled to the floor inside her cell, and that the shackles were causing her ankles to bleed.

Daniel also mentioned that Meriam's legs are swollen, and he fears she is not receiving the proper medical treatment she needs.

If this is the case, when Meriam goes into labor with her unborn baby, it could prove to be fatal.

Soyinka says he's never referred to Patience Jonathan as 'illiterate'

Posted: 22 May 2014 02:56 AM PDT

Literary icon Professor Wole Soyinka in a statement released yesterday to media houses said that while he may have publicly chastised First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, he has never referred to her as an illiterate. He said his name is being falsely used to disrespect the first lady and will take legal action once he finds out the source of the lies. I recall him referring to Patience Jonathan as that woman on his CNN interview with Amanpour though. Anyway, his statement reads in part below;

"It commenced over a year ago, I seem to recollect, as a telephone text, 'tweet' or whatever it is called, died away after strong rebuttals, and is now being provided renewed life by some faceless cowards with their own private agenda. Let me state quite clearly that literacy is no indicator of intelligence, even though we all believe (I hope) in universal literacy. From childhood I have interacted with so-called "illiterate" men and women, sipped from their innate intelligence, and learnt much from them outside formal schooling"...
"Your readers may wish to know that when I first encountered the statement, I was sufficiently appalled to send a personal message to Patience Jonathan dissociating myself from such a base sentiment. The associated commentary on the president's decisions - I have no idea which decision, if any - is equally outrageous and disgusting. To attribute to me the slightest interest in the choice of a spouse by man or woman is a complete travesty of my near obsessive belief in the sanctity of private relationships"
"Let me take this opportunity to announce yet again that I do not tweet, blog or whatever goes on in this increasingly promiscuous medium. I do not run a Facebook, even though I am aware that one or two serious-minded individuals/groups have instituted some such forum on their own, for the purpose of disseminating factual information on my activities. I neither contribute to, nor comment on the contents of their "calendar".
On how the internet is being used to disrespect people, Prof Soyinka said professional actions should be taken to protect the integrity of the medium, and save it from becoming "a mere vomitorium" for unprincipled scallywags who may or may not have a particular axe to grind.

Segun Arinze asks NFVCB boss to resign over Half Of A Yellow Sun

Posted: 22 May 2014 02:21 AM PDT

A few weeks ago, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun was to hit our cinema screens...but it was stopped. I heard the reason it was removed was because of the theme of the movie, the Hausa killing Ibo/biafra war story and because of the current situation in Nigeria, some scenes were asked to be cut from the movie by the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board. I don't know if the scenes have been cut or what exactly is going on right now, but NFVCB has still refused to let the movie show in the cinemas.

Actor and former Actors' Guild of Nigeria president Segun Arinze is now calling for the resignation of the Director-General of the Censors Board. His statement below...
Please tell Madam Patricia Bala of Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board to release the movie Half of a Yellow Sun. She has no reason to hold on to the movie. She has no right to censor the movie only to classify it. She saw it in Canada and even partnered with the producers in Canada during the premiere. What she is doing now is an embarrassment to government and a big insult to our dear industry, Nollywood. We are not in a military regime. She should kindly resign'. - Segun Arinze

Torrei Hart replies Kevin, insists he cheated with current girlfriend

Posted: 21 May 2014 04:45 PM PDT

Kevin Hart today slammed his ex-wife Torrei Hart (pictured with him left) on twitter after she said in a recent interview that he cheated on her with his current girlfriend, model Eniko Parrish (pictured with him right). Kevin claimed he'd been separated from Torrei for 7 years and Eniko had nothing to do with their divorce. Torrei took to twitter to remind him that they have a 6 year old son, so his dates don't make no sense. She also insisted that Eniko was one of the reasons her 10 year marriage packed up. See what she wrote on instagram after the cut...

Problems in their marriage started after Torrei decided she also wanted to be a stand up comedian and during her stand up performances, she would refute a lot of things Kevin said about her and their family. She also aired personal matters during a TV interview.
