Ebola outbreak may have started with 2 year old boy in Guinea

Posted: 11 Aug 2014 12:33 PM PDT

The largest outbreak of Ebola in history was likely started by a 2 year old boy in a remote village in Guinea according to researchers. The boy, called Patient Zero in this outbreak, died on December 6th 2013 after suffering from fever, black stool & vomiting. That illness has now been found to be Ebola

Before he died, he infected his mother, his 3 year old sister, his grandmother and a mid wife who was caring for him when he was ill. His mum and sister died before the end of December 2013 after suffering bleeding symptoms. His grandmother died January 1st. The mid-wife died by February 11th but before dying, she had passed the virus to her family members who died the following month in March 2014. Continue...

The virus spread from the Southern Guinea village to other parts of Africa after villagers from Sierre Leone and Liberia, who share a border with the village, attended the grandmother's burial. Two of the funeral attendees fell ill and the virus spread from their families to their villages and to health care workers and family members taking care of patients. And one Patrick Sawyer brought it to Nigeria!

How the child became infected is a biggest mystery as scientist who have traced the the outbreak this time say they don't know how the toddler got infected.

So far, 960 people have died from the virus while 1,779 people have been infected...

Family of Nigerian who died in Algerian plane crash struggle to retrieve body

Posted: 11 Aug 2014 06:57 AM PDT

The family of the only Nigerian who died in the ill fated Air Algeria AH5017 plane crash that killed 110 passengers and crew on July 24th in Mali say they are struggling to retrieve his body from the Malian government.

The family is now asking the Federal Government to help them retrieve his body so they could give him a proper burial.

Late Emmanuel Osita, a professional footballer with a club in Burkina Faso, was on his way to Dubai to sign a new football contract when he met his untimely death. Continue

Speaking with Channels TV, Emmanuel's father Ogbu Osita said his son had called him few minutes before boarding the flight and asked that he prayed for him which he did.
"He entered the plane by 10.30pm Nigerian time and 10 o'clock in Burkina faso. He asked me to pray for him for success and journey mercy, I prayed for him and after I prayed for him, he boarded the plane and I urged him that as soon as he gets to Dubai, he should call us to know that he has reached. The President of the club he played for in Burkina Faso called me to tell me that the plane Osita Emmanuel entered had been declared missing. From that moment, we know that Osita Emmanuel, my son, is dead." he said.
The father revealed that the family has written to the Federal Ministry of Foreign affairs to help retrieve the body of their late bread winner for burial but no word has come from the Ministry. He said they are financially incapacitated if not they would have done so themselves
"If they help us to bring the dead body to Nigeria, then we can go and bury him because as I told you before, we are financially incapacitated to do so" his father said
Meanwhile the Director Consular of the Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdul-Aziz Dankano, said the Federal Government is waiting for the conclusion of the investigation being carried out by the Malian government into the crash, adding that bodies of the crash victims have not yet been released.

He said they would get in touch with the family of late Osita to know what the government can do for them.

Woman has 4 babies in 9 months after triplets were conceived just weeks after the birth of her first child

Posted: 11 Aug 2014 06:14 AM PDT

29 year old British woman Sarah Ward gave birth to four children in a space of nine months after falling pregnant with triplets just weeks after she gave birth to her first child.

Her son Freddie was only nine months old when she and her partner Benn Smith, were shocked to discover they had triplets on the way. They later welcomed two boys - Stanley and Reggie and a girl, Daisy. Describing life since being the mother of four little children Sarah Ward said 'At times it feels more like running a nursery than a home but we feel blessed'. Continue...

'I was stunned when I found out I was pregnant again so soon. When we learned it was triplets we went into shock.
'At times it's utter chaos but we just laugh and get stuck in. It takes two hours to prepare to leave the house but we don't dwell on the hard work. I love babies so I feel like the luckiest mum in the world.' - the mum of four said..
Miss Ward had tried to conceive for more than a year and was due to see a GP for tests when she became pregnant with Freddie. So after he was born in June last year, the couple did not use birth control.
"We wanted to have at least two children. Because it had taken so long with Freddie, we assumed it would take the same time again, if not longer.' - Miss Ward said
In fact, Freddie was only eight weeks old when she learned she was expecting.
'I started shaking. I had barely recovered from having Freddie. I was still wearing maternity clothing. I was wondering how on earth I was going to cope.'
A scan at 12 weeks revealed Miss Ward was expecting fraternal triplets.
'The sonographer paused and asked if we knew how many babies we were having. Our mouths fell open because we thought she was telling us it was twins.
'When she said triplets I nearly fell off the bed in shock. Neither of us could speak as she turned the screen to us and pointed out three little wriggling shapes. I just started crying when I realized they would be born before Freddie was one.' she said

MTN Project Fame's contestants recast Wizkid &Davido to audience delights

Posted: 11 Aug 2014 05:51 AM PDT

The MTN Project Fame stepped up to a whole new level of reckoning on Sunday when the thirteen contestants in the academy recast the two most popular Afro Hip-Hop princes, Wizkid and Davido. With performances that the judges tagged 'intense and stellar', 13 hit songs from the gifted artistes rang through the studio and propelled the audience into unusual dancing mood. (pictured above is Clement performing Davido's 'One of a Kind'). Continue...

Emeka rendering 'Aye' by Davido

It was the Nomination Show. It started with Clement, who, despite a broken leg , opened the stage with a spirited rendition of Davido's 'One of a Kind'. Balanced on the tread of a 3-step stair, the Ghanaian was a marvel and seemed in control of his colourful dancers. He evinced total mastery of the song, and endeared himself to a previously doubtful audience.

Clement's performance turned out to be the perfect opener as subsequent performances were equally adjudged 'fun', 'amazing', 'decent' and more. Second was Laami performing Wizkid's 'I Love My Baby' followed by another Davido's hit song 'Aye' performed by Emeka.

Taiwo, Christian, Shola, Ruky, Geoffrey, Ugo and Debbie were the other contestants that rendered select popular songs by Wizkid. The songs include 'Holla at your Boy', 'Oluwa Lo Ni', 'Don't Dull' and 'Joy', a mixture of hip hop and reggae performed by Debbie to an extensive applause from participants and the faculty.

Kofo, Flourish and Ogechi did justice to Davido's famous songs like 'DamiDuro', 'Ekuro' and 'All of You'.  The performances trumped all contentions and defy arguments as it turned out that the artistes recast were in different worlds and peculiar classes too close to call . That seemed the obvious reason the judges - including a guest appearance by one of the show's guest judges from Ghana, Akosia Agyapong - decided to put all the contestants on probation.

Hence, Ugo (18), Christian (1), Debbie (4), Clement (2), Geoffrey (8), Kofo (9), Laami (10), Ruky (15), Emeka (6), Shola (16), Kofo (9), Ogechi (14) and Flourish (7) are now on probation. The truth is anyone of these contestants could be eliminated this Saturday except their fans weigh in by voting to keep them in the academy. Viewers and fans can text their favourite contestants' unique numbers to 306 or 1745(Ghana), via an MTN line, to keep them in the academy.

The five wildcard entrants who performed on the show on Saturday also will need viewers' votes to make the academy.

On the flip side, Melody and Lasbrey have been eliminated from the academy, after three great weeks of outstanding performances.

Dear LIB readers: Did my ex-GF marry another man while pregnant for me?

Posted: 11 Aug 2014 02:07 AM PDT

From a male LIB reader
My girlfriend and I broke up just four months ago in April and I found out she got married this past weekend.
At the time we were dating, she kept asking me to marry her. In fact that was the reason she broke up with me when I told her I wasn't ready to settle down. We are both 28.
I was surprised at how fast she had found someone else when I heard she was getting married in Asaba on Saturday only for me to see the wedding photos and see she's heavily pregnant. She's at least seven months pregnant. This lady and I were lovers up until she ended our relationship in April. And I remember she was very anxious to tie the knot back then but she never mentioned she was pregnant. Could the child she's carrying be mine? I don't know why I have this feeling it could be. Should I ask her? And if the child is not mine, it means she was pregnant for this man back in April when she was begging me to marry her? But I believe more that she's about to give my baby to another man. What should I do?
