Robin Williams hanged himself with a belt Posted: 12 Aug 2014 12:09 PM PDT  According to the Marin County Deputy Coroner, Robins Williams was at home alone Monday when he tried slashing his left wrist, but it only left "acute superficial cuts. He then took a belt, tied it around his neck and secured it between the closet door and door frame. Williams was in a seated position, slightly suspended with his right shoulder against the door. " TMZ reports. He didn't leave a suicide note...The Coroner said Robin's personal assistant discovered his body hours later. The legendary actor had been battling depression for a while and even went to a Minnesota rehab facility just last month. |
| Photo: Police arrest fake Assistant Commissioner of Police Posted: 12 Aug 2014 11:47 AM PDT  46 year old Alexander Ilesanmi (pictured above), an indigene of Akure, Ondo state has been arrested by the Lagos State Police command for parading himself as an Assistant Commissioner of Police and receiving stolen vehicles from robbery suspects. According to police reports, Illesanmi, who goes about dressing in police uniform with the rank of a Deputy police commissioner displayed on his shirt, was arrested after an apprehended notorious car snatcher and supposed pastor of a church, Gabriel Asaolu, identified him to be one of those who bought stolen cars from him. Continue... Investigations by the police revealed that Ilesanmi had bought two stolen cars, a Mitsubishi Montero and a Toyota Avalon from the suspect before he was arrested. The insignia of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), two photographs of the himself in DSP and ACP uniforms as well as an unregistered SUV believed to have been sold to him by another suspect was discovered at his home. When interrogated, Ilesanmi said he got the DSP and ACP insignia from a friend, whom he identified simply as Segun. He said he used the police uniforms to help in clearing vehicles which he deals in

The competition consists of 20 highly gifted youngsters between 7-12 who face two grueling rounds: Logic and Reasoning and Memory Recall - where they have just one hour to commit 104 randomly shuffled playing cards to memory. Hazel Mendel-Idowu was out of the competition in the second round but Tudor Mendel-Idowu scaled through to the final stage on Sunday August 10th and made it up to 2nd position. 11 year old Sharon from Bolton won the competition. To see her wheeled out of the ambulance and in, I was on the floor sobbing." | Abuja designates Kuje General Hospital Ebola centre Posted: 12 Aug 2014 08:06 AM PDT  The minister also inaugurated a 25-member committee to work out modalities for responding to the threat of Ebola virus and create awareness on the nature and symptoms of the virus. Mr. Mohammed made this known during a high powered stakeholder's interactive forum in Abuja on Monday. Continue... He said the hospital was chosen because it would be easy for the people of Abuja to access it. He said a ward would be designated in the hospital where the Ebola patients could be quarantined and be on surveillance, among others. He said that adequate infrastructure and equipment would be put in place to manage affected persons and guard against the spread of the virus. "All precautionary measures have been put in place to ensure that the designation of the ward will not endanger the health workers and residents of Kuje," he said. However, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Shabal Tete, said the designation of the hospital as Ebola centre was not a welcome development to the people of the area. According to him, this was because most of the people are "illiterate." The minister instructed the chairman of the council to sensitise his constituents, rather than preventing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Administration from using the hospital. "The hospital is the only option for us to isolate as a centre for Ebola patients; Gwagwalada hospital that is for FCT has been taken from us, we have no other option than to use it. We will put all infrastructure needed in place to avoid its spread; doctors will be given adequate training and best way to curtail the disease from spreading," Mr. Mohammed said. He, therefore, advised the six area council chairmen to sensitise their people on routine cleaning and disinfecting their hands at all times. Demola Onakomaiya, the Secretary of the FCT Health Secretariat, said the transmission of the disease in human was through direct contact with blood or body secretion, among others. Mr. Onakomaiya denied the recent rumours of Ebola in the territory, adding that the three suspected cases being raised by FCT residents were mere rumours. According to him, the people at risk of the disease are the health care givers and family members of infected persons. There is no specific medication or vaccine for its cure. Rui Jaz, World Health Organisation Country Representative, said the organisation would support the administration in its plans to curtail the disease. Mr. Jaz said it was untrue that bitter kola could cure the disease as speculated, adding that it had not been proven by scientists. Akeem Lawal, Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Medical Association, FCT chapter, said the association had held two meetings since the outbreak of the disease. This morning the police released description of the boys in an appeal to find them... "We have descriptions of the three boys who are Polish, speak good English and had bicycles with them. Remus, 15, is 5 feet 7" tall, slim build, dark coloured hair in a big quiff at the front and shaved at the back. Last seen wearing joggers, baseball cap and t-shirt and a black cycling helmet. Janko, 12, is 4 feet 8" tall, fairer hair styled in a quiff and short at the back, medium build, last seen wearing smart mustard coloured chinos, converse type trainers, blue lightweight waterproof jacket with a white zip and a silver cycling helmet "David, 10, is 4 feet 8" tall, shaggy dark brown hair, chubby build, possibly wearing shorts and a top and a silver coloured cycling helmet." | Man arrested for killing school pupil after she refused his sexual advances Posted: 12 Aug 2014 06:00 AM PDT  The Ebonyi state police command has arrested 28 year old Sunday Nwali for allegedly killing a pupil miss Chioma Ezekwele of Kingdom Secondary School in Ikweator Idembia in Ezza South Local Government of Ebonyi state after she refused his sexual advances. Parading the suspect before newsmen at the state police command in Abakaliki the state capital, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Maigari Dikko said Nwali aka Machine in company of his friends named Chukwuma Eloma and Friday Ebenyi had gone to the hostel of the school where they accosted late Chioma and her friend Sandra. He demanded sex from Chioma which she refused and in anger, he shot her dead. He then dragged her friend Sandra into the bush where he raped her and then fled the scene. Continue... Not long ago, you had issues with your estranged wife, has it been sorted out? On that issue, let me say this is the first time I will ever grant an interview. I was shocked to see a lot of Idle bloggers and magazines or newspapers claiming I said this and that in an interview with them. Okay yes, the issue has been sorted out. Are you guys still living together as husband and wife? Its not abnormal to have marital upset here and there but I guess being an actor made mine worse, giving room for wannabe bloggers, magazine and newspapers to feast on my misfortune. We are not married anymore, we have gone our separate ways. How long were you married? Our legal marriage was consummated in 2007, so we were together for six years Why was it difficult to continue with the marriage? I was not the one who opted out of the marriage. My father in-law pressurized my wife to leave the marriage or he would disown her. Her level of misunderstanding of marriage also made it worse. So she had to align with her father. What is your relationship with the lady you were about to marry now? Everybody went their separate way that day and I haven't seen her or spoken with her since then. Any regret with what happened? I have no regret at all because a missed step can actually quicken your speed. How did your family react to it? I am not used to family fighting my course. I have been a one man riot squad for years. I was born a warrior. I fight my battles and I win. Besides, I cannot say I come from that family that is so bonded. So when are you getting married? I don't really know. | You think they have it all...you even envy them...then they commit suicide Posted: 12 Aug 2014 03:46 AM PDT  I'm not an expert on depression, but I used to think depression comes from not being fulfilled in life. When there's something you desperately want for yourself and you're unable to achieve it or when you have it all and then you lose it or you lose a loved one, or your business/marriage fails..stuff like that. When I battled depression for a few months back in 2010 it was because I was so unfulfilled. My dreams weren't coming true, everything seemed hopeless and I just didn't know what else to do.. but I eventually got over it. I've been asking myself, why wasn't Robin Williams able to get over it? Diff'rent Strokes star Todd Bridges took to Twitter last night to criticize Robin's suicide, calling it a 'selfish act'. Below is what he wrote He's since taken the tweet down and apologized after he was bashed for the comments.
Robin is my all-time favourite stand up comedian and definitely one of my most loved actors. I don't understand the world inside his head, I just wish he had been able to fight his demons. He battled depression and substance abuse for most of his career...and you wonder, why? He could make the world laugh but he couldn't find anything to live for? I don't understand. Can someone help the rest of us make sense of this? |

Miguel Pajares, who was airlifted from Liberia on August 7 after contracting the disease while working for a non-governmental organization in the African country started using the experimental drug, Zmapp last Saturday 9th August but sadly lost the battle to the deadly virus. He was being treated at Carlos III hospital Madrid where he had been quarantined since his return from Liberia. This will be the first European that has died from the recent outbreak of the deadly virus. |
