Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh dies from Ebola virus Posted: 19 Aug 2014 01:13 PM PDT Yes, unfortunately it's true. Just confirmed from a family source. Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer. Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon Tuesday August 19th at the isolation centre in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this. Her death is so heartbreaking. She's survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace...Amen. |

Halle Berry's 3rd marriage coming to an end? Posted: 19 Aug 2014 12:52 PM PDT I was really rooting for her...hoping this marriage will last. But it looks like it may not. After Halle Berry's first marriage ended she said she was weary of getting married again. Then she met Eric Benet and he changed her mind. After that marriage ended, she vowed never to get married again.. then she met Olivier Martinez and he changed her mind...looks like she was right to be scared of getting married again. Insiders swear Halle's marriage to Olivier Martinez is on its last legs… From Star Magazine Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez seem to be on the fast track to spitsville. Star can reveal that the couple both 48, who are parents of son Maceo, 10 months, have been living separately for months. "They don't talk to each other much," dishes the source," and when they do, it's only about their son." |

Boko Haram: Some soldiers refuse to fight, demand better equipment Posted: 19 Aug 2014 09:13 AM PDT About 40 Nigerian soldiers are reported to have refused orders from their superior to move to the North to fight Boko Haram, saying they will only obey the order if they are provided with better equipment. One of the mutineers who spoke anonymously with BBC Hausa said lack of good weapons and ammunition to fight the terror group is why a lot of soldiers get slaughtered by the insurgents, adding that the Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram "Soldiers are dying like fowl. The Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram. Boko Haram are inside the bush, everywhere. They (senior commanders) are sacrificing soldiers" he said. Continue...The mutineer also stated that the armored cars they are expected to use in battle are old and outdated. He said he could not be court marshaled by his superior for taking part in the mutiny because only soldiers who decline to take part in wars are court-marshaled, stating that he and his other colleagues are not declining to go to war but are only asking for better equipments before they go to war. "I joined the army to defend my country but you cannot defend it without being equipped to do so" he said |

Nigerian graduate holds up sign advertising himself at train station and gets a job interview Posted: 19 Aug 2014 07:49 AM PDT 22 year old Nigerian graduate Alfred Ajani has been inundated with offers of interviews after taking a radical approach to job hunting, Daily Mail reports. Alfred said he's applied for over 300 positions since getting a degree in marketing in May this year and has been unlucky. Determined to land his dream job, he decided to hand out CVs to company bosses commuting into the City of London through Waterloo Station this morning. Alfred stood at the entrance to the busy station holding a sign stating: 'Marketing graduate (BA Hons 2:1 Coventry Uni) Ask for CV.' His direct approach received a warm response from commuters, with many stopping to discuss potential positions. Continue... Alfred, who lives not far from the station, said: 'I graduated in May and have been applying for jobs ever since, but it's very difficult at the moment. 'The only ones that have come up have not really been what I wanted, I'm interested in marketing and advertising. Alfred has worked as a waiter while studying and has taken positions as an intern in the music industry in a bid to boost his job prospects. He asked friends to help him hand out his CVs, but thinks they were put off by the early start. A photo of him giving his phone number to a passing commuter circulated on Twitter this morning, with website users offering their support. After seeing the photo, one Twitter user wrote: 'Good on him for putting himself out there!! Time waits for no man!! Love it!!' Another added: 'It's a good idea. I would've hired him into my business straight away if I saw him.' Olympic medallist Kelly Sotherton retweeted the photo, and motivational speaker Gavin Ingham wrote: 'He will no doubt get interviews and offers whilst others sit at home moaning. Good on him.' Genevieve Magazine Announces Its 3rd Genevieve PinkBall Posted: 19 Aug 2014 07:15 AM PDT Genevieve Magazine announces its 3rd 'Genevieve PinkBall' scheduled to hold on the 18th of October 2014 to help support women both medically and financially towards the prevention and treatment of Breast Cancer. These women would be educated on how to get tested regularly and treatment will be provided to patients who have tested positive. The main mission is to advocate for increased access to care, improve treatment modalities and also increase funding for quality Breast Cancer Research. Continue... The '100 Patient Challenge' The 3rd 'Genevieve PinkBall' event is set on a very strong and impactful mission to treat over 100 affected patients. This is an initiative where interested individuals adopt a Breast Cancer patient. The 'adopted' patients get funds targeted to cover medical expenses towards the treatment of Breast Cancer. According to the founder and C.E.O of Genevieve Magazine, Betty Irabor: "In Nigeria the majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer do not survive because their cancer is detected too late. Awareness is the First Step in the battle Against Breast Cancer. Herein lies our motivation to lend our platform Genevieve PinkBall to the cause. Our '100 patient challenge' is all about further Awareness Creation, Education and giving hope to the otherwise hopeless; treatment for 100 may seem an insignificant number but it's a good start. The 2014 Genevieve PinkBall is also a clarion call to ALL to lend a hand. The Government can't do it all but together we can reduce deaths from Breast Cancer." History Past history of Genevieve Magazine Pink Ball has shown the event to be a successful one. The first PinkBall took place in 2005 and the second PinkBall was in 2009. The funds realized from the 1st and 2nd PinkBall were used to create programs and awareness for Breast Cancer and also the purchasing of a mammogram machine which is serviced regularly by the Genevieve PinkBall. With LG G3, simple is the new smart Posted: 19 Aug 2014 06:02 AM PDT LGElectronics (LG), a global leader in Mobile Communications has introduced into the Nigerian market its eagerly anticipated G3 smartphone, the successor to the company's well-received LG G2. The device received Red Dot "Best of the Best"Awards for Smart Keyboard, Knock CodeTM and the graphic user interface (GUI). Continue... Developed under the Simple is the New Smartconcept, LG G3 is a culmination of consumer research based on LG's product development philosophy, Learning from You. The LG G3 is empowered with the best of what current technology has to offer, providing consumers with a user experience more ambitious than anything offered before by LG. "This is the best innovation in a fast evolving Smartphone market" said Mr. Steve Seungeui Lee, the General Manager, Mobile Communication division, LG Electronics West Africa operations. LG G3, he continued "is creating harmony between advanced technology and a simplified user experience which is the result of our effort to actualize that idea into a tangible product, and we are extremely pleased with the result." LG's reputation in the display arena is second to none and the development of the G3's breathtaking Quad HD display was the result of years of innovation in display technology. With a pixel density of 534ppi, the G3's Quad HD display sets new viewing standard producing images that are sharper and clearer than traditional Smartphone displays. At 5.5-inches, LG G3 boasts a screen ratio of 76.4 percent with thin bezels all around so the phone feels as comfortable in the hand as a smaller traditional Smartphone. The high resolution display on the G3 also required LG engineers to pair it with battery technology that was just as innovative. LG equipped the G3 with a 3,000mAh removable battery and advanced optimization technologies to further maximize battery efficiency. By replacing the metal in the battery cathode with graphite, LG engineers were able to extend the lifespan of the G3's battery. The result is a battery that can keep up with the Quad HD display's ultra-high performance without losing steam in the middle of the day. The G3's advanced 13MP OIS+ camera is designed to quickly and easily capture life's special moments as they occur, not necessarily when you want them to occur. This is made possible with G3's innovative Laser Auto Focus, the first of its kind in the smartphone industry. This technology enables the G3 to capture the best moment — even in low light — by measuring the distance between the subject and the camera using a laser beam. So no more fuzzy pictures of your son scoring his first football goal or missed shots because your camera couldn't decide quickly enough which toddler in the playground to focus on. Combined with the proven and popular OIS technology first seen in the G2, the G3 is sure to impress even the most discerning shutterbugs. LG also simplified the process of actually capturing those special moments. Rather than having to focus on the subject in preview mode and then pressing the shutter button, with the G3, tapping the subject to focus will simultaneously also trigger the shutter. What's more, the G3's 2.1MP front camera incorporates several new enhancements such as a larger image sensor and larger aperture for more light throughput and better-looking selfies. A unique twist has been added to the standard timed selfie mode by incorporating gesture controls — when ready to shoot, simply clenches your hand into a fist and the G3 will recognize the gesture and begin the automatic three-second countdown. It couldn't get any simpler than that. For video, the G3 offers superior sound quality with instinctive microphones that measure the environment to identify the optimal audio level for the clearest recording. And with the built-in 1W speaker with Boost AMP, users can enjoy videos and music accompanied by richer sounds and clearer tones. LG is committed to using the latest innovations to continually exceed consumer expectations and confirmed its readiness tocontinue its proven track record for producing powerful and innovative Smartphone that addresses the peculiar needs of consumers enabling them achieve their immediate objectives. |

Pope Francis: I could quit like Benedict or even die by 2017 Posted: 19 Aug 2014 04:31 AM PDT Pope Francis has suggested that he might one day resign the papacy like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI did last year, which would make him the second consecutive Pope to do so after almost 600 years. He said this yesterday Aug. 18th while speaking with reporters on his way back to Rome after his state visit to South Korea. "Some theologians may say this is not right, but I think this way. Let us think about what [Benedict XVI] said, "I have gotten old, I do not have the strength", it was a beautiful gesture of nobility, of humility and courage. But you could say to me, if you at some time felt you could not go forward, I would do the same." Asked about his immense popularity, the Pope, 77, joked that he would probably die in the next 2/3 years so should not get too proud:
