| Pres. Jonathan condemns stigmatiation of Nigerians over Ebola Posted: 27 Aug 2014 12:11 PM PDT  
Noting that there was no justification for such stigmatization of Nigerians since the Ebola Virus Disease had been effectively contained in the country and never attained epidemic levels, the President called for the cessation of discriminatory actions against Nigerians over the virus and urged the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon to support the call. Responding to the Secretary General's commendation of Nigeria's management of the threat of Ebola, President Jonathan praised the Federal Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Government and all Nigerians for the success achieved so far in containing the virus and avoiding a national epidemic. "All hands have been on deck to contain the virus here. I commend my team and the Lagos State Government. We have been able to set politics aside and work in unison to deal with a national threat. "All other Nigerians have played a part too by complying with the directives and advice we have issued to stop the virus from spreading any further. The success we have had is a testimony to what we can achieve as people if we set aside our differences and work together," he told Mr. Navarro. The President assured the Special Envoy that in spite of the seeming success of its containment measures, the Federal Government and its agencies will remain vigilant to guard against further cases of Ebola in the country. "We will continue to monitor the situation and we will also support other affected African countries as much as we can because we cannot be completely safe from the virus as long as it continues to ravage some countries in our sub-region and continent. We will continue to work with the international community to curb the outbreak in other countries," President Jonathan pledged. Mr. Navarro who had visited Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the countries worst hit by Ebola before coming to Nigeria, told the President that he had come, on the instruction of the UN Secretary-General, to applaud Nigeria's successful containment of the virus. "The Secretary-General asked me to come here too, not because you have an Ebola problem, but because you have tackled it in an exemplary fashion. "Your personal leadership on the matter has been key. There may still be some work to be done before the virus is completely cleared out from here, but other countries can learn from your fine example," Mr. Navarro told the President. For those that know me very well, if there's anything that I can boast of, it's fashion, I don't joke with it. Most of these talks actually started from pictures I posted on Instagram, and really I got the buzz I needed at that time, so I even went on to post more pictures so people would talk more, and guess what, my followers have increased drastically with all these fashion talks. I don't even respond to them, I don't take it serious, I'm happy and making more money, so I'm not loosing anything. If you come to my wardrobe you'll know what I'm saying, I'm a fashion icon ...and I can brag about it. | Air France, British Airways suspend flights to Sierra Leone, Liberia Posted: 27 Aug 2014 07:31 AM PDT  Air France has temporarily suspended all its flights to Sierra Leone due to the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa. In a statement released by management of Air France today August 27th, the French government recommended the national carrier to suspend all its flight to Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile British Airways has also suspended all its flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone till 2015. British Airways had earlier suspended its flights to the countries till September 2014 but reviewed the situation and decided to extend its flights suspension to 2015. Liberia has been worst hit since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa with 624 deaths recorded. |
| Photo: Driver who escaped with employer’s N6.5m vehicle arrested Posted: 27 Aug 2014 07:03 AM PDT  According to reports by Tribune, on April 10th this year, Kingsley drove his boss, Abosede Olubiyi, in her newly acquired Infinity FX 35 SUV to an appointment in Yaba, Lagos. When they got to their destination, the woman told Kingsley to find a place to park the car as there was no parking space in front of the building they were going to. The lady came down from the car and went for her appointment and that was the last time she saw Kingsley and her car. The matter was immediately reported to the Lagos State Police command. In the course of their investigation, the police arrested a friend of Kingsley who they used as a bait to get him out of his hideout. The friend cooperated with the police and Nwabueze was traced to Imo State. After some persuasion from his friend who lied to him that he had a very lucrative business for him, Kingsley appeared in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested. Kingsley has since confessed to stealing his boss's car, saying that he had already put it up for sale at an Autoshop in Aba, Abia state. |

| Shocking moment 9year old girl accidentally kills instructor with gun during shooting lesson Posted: 27 Aug 2014 04:20 AM PDT   What does a 9 year old girl need shooting lessons for? A 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally shot and killed her instructor at Last Stop gun range in White Hills, Arizona on Monday Aug. 25th. Authorities say when the girl pulled the trigger, the weapon recoiled over her shoulder and shot the instructor, 39 year old Charles Vacca, in the head. He later died in the hospital. The accidental shooting was captured on a cellphone. Continue to see the video... The Mohave County Sheriff's Office said the girl was with her parents. The website of Bullets and Burgers, the shooting range where the accident happened, says children between the ages of 8 and 17 can shoot a weapon if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Police identified the weapon as an Uzi, an Israeli-made submachine gun. Check out the cell phone video released by authorities yesterday showing the moments before the fatal shots were fired.. |
