| Jay Z/Beyoncé divorce rumor/elevator fight was staged to sell $100m in concert tickets? Posted: 06 Aug 2014 10:06 AM PDT  Billboard published an article yesterday titled 'Jay Z, Beyonce and the Rumor Mill: Who's Pulling the Strings?' and they spoke with some experts who feel that not only is the divorce rumours all BS, that Jay Z didn't cheat on Beyonce. They also suspect that the elevator beat down with Solange was all staged...all in time for their first joint tour. They say the power couple wanted to be in the tabloids like never before...to sell concert tickets. And they've sold $100m in tickets, making $5.2m per night! I don't know if I buy this story but read for yourself and see if it makes sense to you. Find it after the cut... From Billboard.com For most of their six-year, seven-digit-earning marriage, Beyonce and Jay Z were a glimmering aberration in the world of celebrity rumors: an unflappable married couple seemingly impervious to gossip. In fact, just one year ago, two people tightly controlled the Jay Z/Beyonce media narrative: Jay and Bey. They were the Untouchables. What a difference a year makes. Actual facts surrounding their private relationship are extremely thin, but the public perception has changed since those "Crazy in Love" days, and it no longer feels like the couple has the same tight, respectable stranglehold on that perception. In the midst of their first-ever co-headlining U.S. tour, once-dismissed rumors about Jay Z's alleged mistresses started gaining traction. Speculation that Beyonce was changing song lyrics to blast Jay on stage made the rounds. Their On the Run tour, coupled with trouble-in-paradise whispers, was making headlines on the daily -- something even Kanye West's Yeezus tour didn't manage. Suddenly, it's okay to gossip about Jay Z and Beyonce's marriage. Hell, this random woman released an infidelity accusation in the form of a music video. Things are getting weird. So what changed? In the mind of Gawker/Defamer staff writer Jordan Sargent, the elevator scuffle with Beyonce's sister Solange on May 5 after the Met Costume Institute Gala was a significant curveball in their happy-couple narrative. "The elevator fight was definitely an unplanned crack in the veneer. It was really the first time they experienced a real tabloid controversy that was totally out of their control," Sargent tells Billboard. In Sargent's eyes, Jay's taken the brunt of the public pummeling. "Jay is -- from what I can tell -- now seen by many as the no-good cheater breaking up America's own royal couple who, on top of it all, is being dragged around the country by his wife so that she can call him out in front of 50,000 people every night. I don't think that's exactly what he had planned." Then again, perhaps that's exactly what he planned -- at least, if you have a conspiracy theory-oriented mind. Celebrity publicist Jonathan Hay -- who's worked with clients from Sony to Wiz Khalifa and provides PR crisis management -- spoke to Billboard in a separate interview and speculated this entire affair is just carefully orchestrated tour promotion. "Always consider the timing in these situations," Hay says. "That staged elevator fight hit the news immediately before the release of their On The Run tour trailer video. The fight gives regular news stations -- beyond just entertainment news -- a headline, which broadens their audience. They're also going to bring up the On The Run tour and ask questions like, 'Will their be drama on the road?' and, 'Is this going to be the final performances of Jay Z and Beyonce?' They created a compelling spectacle, which ultimately creates a demand." Hay, incidentally, knows a thing or two about creating a compelling spectacle. He openly takes credit for planting those false Jay Z/Rihanna romance rumors back in 2005 to promote her debut single "Pon de Replay." Obviously, that stunt worked a little. But doesn't a co-headlining tour of the Carter Dynasty create enough demand on musical merits alone? Why would they need a scandal? After all, the On the Run tour has netted $100 million in revenue in the U.S. alone. But it's worth noting that many of those tickets were sold after the tour -- and the media onslaught -- kicked off. "These shows sold tremendously well at the end," Omar Al-Joulani, the tour's promoter, told Billboard for a separate story. Only as each date grew closer did sales skyrocket -- which is what led several outlets to incorrectly predict disappointing sales for the tour. Even if you don't believe the cheating rumors were cooked up by Jay Z, Beyonce or a publicity mastermind, you have to wonder why the media is suddenly so comfortable casting doubt on the previously untouchable couple. Sargent, for his part, thinks it's the snowball effect running its course. "Each successive story about their relationship legitimizes the discussion and makes it okay for another story to be written. All these stories -- from gossip blog posts that seem obviously untrue to more reported pieces like the one in Page Six to a meta story like this -- have created enough smoke that people are starting to believe there is fire there," he says, but adds, "I don't think the rumors about their relationship have necessarily changed the bottom line at all." Similarly, Hay scoffed at the veracity of the stories swirling around the tour. "I saw the report about their lawyers now being on the road with them. Of course there are lawyers on the road with them! They are generating millions of dollars a night," he says (the tour's take is about $5.2 million per show, in fact). "They have an infrastructure. Jay Z is a brilliant businessman. His affairs are in order, no pun intended. Jay Z and Beyonce are not getting divorced. Jay Z did not cheat on Beyonce. It's all theater." Whatever is going on behind closed doors with Jay and Bey, the On the Run tour itself is a story all its own. "It definitely seems to be the most closely watched tour in a while," Sargent says. "It feels like there are stories each day about what happened at the previous night's show, which is unusual even in the current era of publishing. Because of that I think we'll look back on this tour in five or 10 years as a real moment in time." |
| Suspected Ebola victim dies in Saudi Arabia Posted: 06 Aug 2014 09:13 AM PDT  According to a post on the website of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, the unidentified 40 year old man was being treated for symptoms of the deadly virus in an isolated ward when he suddenly died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The website stated that the man had recently visited Sierra Leone, one of the countries being ravaged by the deadly Ebola virus and may have contracted the virus there. This will be the first suspected Ebola-related death outside Africa since the outbreak. The World Health Organization said today that 932 people have so far died from the virus. |

| Lagos Commissioner for Health speaks on Ebola, says situation 'extremely dire' Posted: 06 Aug 2014 08:05 AM PDT  At a press briefing held in Lagos this afternoon, the Commissioner said the Nigerian nurse who died of the Ebola virus died at exactly 2.06pm yesterday in Lagos. He said Health officials have begun 'secondary contact tracing", that is, tracking down people who came in contact with people who had direct contact with the late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, the first case of Ebola virus in Lagos. He said as at yesterday August 5th, 27 people who had secondary contacts with the Liberian man have been identified and are now been monitored. He said 6 cases of Ebola have been confirmed in Lagos, 2 of which are in critical condition. He said the infected doctor who was confirmed on Monday August 4th to have contracted the virus is still alive. Continue... Dr Idris appealed to religious bodies to temporarily put on hold all forms of activities that would require a large number of people to come together. As regards the ongoing Redeemed Christian Church of God National Convention at the redemption camp, Dr Idris said the church has fully educated its members with pamphlets and strategically positioned educational structures. He reiterated that the disease is not airborne, adding that it requires a physical contact with an infected person or corpse before it can be transmitted. The Commissioner appealed for "volunteer" doctors, nurses, phlebotomists; promising that the state government would provide them with "life insurance" and protective clothing. Meanwhile the Chairman of the Lagos state Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Tope Ojo, yesterday said a matron who attended to the late Liberian man, Patrick Sawyer has shown symptoms of being infected by the deadly virus. Dr Ojo said this yesterday while addressing his members at the state's secretariat. He said 30 doctors have volunteered to stop their strike action and join in the fight against the deadly virus. Dr Ojo said fears by some doctors of getting infected by the disease is the reason for the low number of volunteers recorded. According to him, most doctors are uncertain of government's commitment to them should they get infected during the course of consulting with Ebola virus patients. |

| Nigerian nurse dies of Ebola virus as FG confirms 7 new cases Posted: 06 Aug 2014 03:47 AM PDT  Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, speaking today August 6th at a news conference in Abuja said a Nigerian nurse has died from the Ebola Virus. He said the nurse worked at the Lagos hospital where Liberian Patrick Sawyer was treated. He said she died yesterday August 5th. He also revealed that five medical practitioners who interacted with Sawyer have been confirmed to have contracted the deadly virus The Minister noted that all Nigerians diagnosed with the disease had primary contact with the late Liberian man. He then announced the appointment of Prof. O. Onajole, of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, who will be based in Lagos, as the Director, Communication and Community Mobilisation for the Ebola Virus Disease. |

The offence came to light when the woman 'blurted out' that she had abused the older of her two sons while speaking to a domestic abuse charity about her partner. A court heard that her 'highly destructive' partner had so far escaped justice. The woman, who cannot be named to protect her son, was jailed for three years and three months at Bristol Crown Court. Judge Michael Longman told her: 'Your behaviour towards your son was contrary to human instincts and basic decency. 'It occurred after you met a man who clearly was controlling and over-bearing; a man who, it is also clear, should be prosecuted himself but is outside the jurisdiction and beyond the reach of this investigation. 'Even though he was at a distance from you, he continued to exert that influence, but you continued to behave towards your son in a way which, despite that pressure, your own instincts should have prevented.' The court heard that the boy was just 11 or 12 when the abuse took place. It came to light when his mother made a complaint at Next Link Domestic Abuse Services in Bristol. Her confession was passed on to Avon and Somerset police and she was taken in for questioning, and the boy was interviewed. Prosecuting, Mark Hollier said: 'In a very ordinary voice, he described an incident to the police officers about how his mother had given him a sex lesson in the main bedroom of the family home and this was observed by [the partner] via a webcam and computer link.' |

He also attended Community Grammar School, Ipaja Lagos, Nigeria and went further to the Lagos State University (LASU) where he studied Computer Science (Bsc.). Thereafter he traveled to Singapore where he studied Basic Safety & Firefighting (STCW95) at Singapore Polytechnic. Finally, he went ahead to study at Aerospace University Instrumentation, at Saint Petersburg, Russia where he bagged a Certificate in Russian Language. He started singing at a tender age of eleven, he was a choir member in church, and he plays the drum set and three facet drums.
