A mother and her two pregnant daughters have all been left tragically widowed after their husbands died in a plane crash in California on July 6th.

The three husbands, Doug Symiczek, 49 (centre), Kyle Parton, 29 (left), and Jacob Griffiths, 32, (right) were on a small private plane when it crashed into a mountain in California. The men had taken a morning flight to enjoy breakfast at their favourite cafe but on their way back home around 9am, the single-engined plane got in to difficulties and crashed in to a nearby mountain & exploded on impact. All three men died instantly. Continue...

A week after the tragic crash, Kyle's wife Breanna (left) gave birth to their second child, on July 13th

Jacob's wife (pictured left) was three months pregnant at the time of the fatal crash..and just day before the accident, Jacob and Amanda had posed for photographs to announce their happy news.

The girl's mum, Kim, had been married to their dad (pictured on top) for 30 years. So they lost their husbands and dad same day. The dad had been piloting the plane that morning..and owned the plane.

Troops recover and return 218 cows to owners in Plateau

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 09:35 AM PDT

Operatives of the Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau State have recovered over 218 cows stolen by cattle rustlers in various parts of the state, this is according to a news report on the website of the Defence HQ.
Some of the cattle were salvaged when troops carrying out special patrols to deescalate cattle rustling in the region were alerted to a group of youthful cattle rustlers who had made away with some cattle after killing herdsmen at Kanke town. The Operatives who swiftly trailed and intercepted the rustlers have taken one of the suspects into custody for preliminary investigations after which he will be handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency.

A separate operation carried out by the special patrol operatives has also led to the recovery of 30 cows from cattle rustlers in Panchiki village in Plateau State. The cattle were recovered following a pursuit by the troops, compelling the rustlers to abandon the cattle. All the cattle have been returned to their rightful owners across the state.

Cattle rustling have been a major cause of violence and the bane of peaceful coexistence in North Central Nigeria.

Chibok family release statement on aborted meeting with Jonathan

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 09:20 AM PDT

Press statement from representatives of parents of Chibok girls/survivors regarding the cancelled meeting between them and president Jonathan yesterday July 15th. Find it below...
We the members of the Kibaku (Chibok) Community and representatives of the 12 fathers and 5 escaped girls who were hosted by Malala during her visit to Nigeria hereby speak on their behalf to offer to Nigerians the facts as they are and to put the records straight and correct the erroneous impression making rounds in the media on the botched meeting with the President: Continue...
#Bringbackourgirls group also released a statement regarding this. Continue...
1. The logistics and meeting between the twelve (12) fathers and five (5) girls and Malala was facilitated by the Abuja Chibok Community and the Citizens platform of BringBackOurGirls with our consent and on TRUST considering their sustained and focused advocacy to Bring Back our daughters.

2. These parents and escaped girls did not come to Abuja at the instance of government or its representatives for a meeting with Mr. President but on the full understanding that they were coming to meet with Malala; an advocate of girl child education and most importantly one who has suffered a similar fate as their daughters'.

3. That in the course of the interactions with Malala, NEITHER the parents nor the escaped girls asked for a meeting with the President or any government functionary, rather the narrative back home was to persistently ask why the President has not visited them in Chibok since the abduction.

4. It is obvious that their numbers of 12 fathers and 5 girls is about 2% of the parents of the 219 abducted girls still with their abductors and the 57 girls that escaped. Therefore, these parents DECIDED on their own accord to review the announced visit, which they FIRST heard of like every other person during Malala speech in Hilton.

5. That consequent to their decision to revert to other family members in order to incorporate every stakeholder on the matter as well as avoid discord and suspicion on a change of plans from the original mission to Abuja, they reached out to the Malala team and through them to the Presidency; to request for a new date for an expanded and more representative meeting that has a legitimate mandate to meet with the President.

6. That their request is also in recognition of the huge opportunity of a meeting with the President for the first time and after over 90 days of the tragic abduction of their daughters, and therefore required better consultations, structure and formality as against an instant advocacy request.

7. That it is totally misleading, unjust and without foundation to hold the Citizens' platform BringBackOurGirls responsible for the decision made by the 12 parents and our community. We therefore take full responsibility for our decision and welcome the formal invitation by the Presidency as a follow up to Malala's visit which we received this morning.

Thank You.

Press statement from #bringbackourgirls conveners...
Response to Malicious Falsehood on Chibok Parents Visit to President Goodluck Jonathan
In the last 24hours, the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja family has observed with consternation the escalation of the pattern of the campaign of calumny by Government officials on our Citizens movement advocating for the rescue of the 219 school girls of abducted from Chibok Girls Secondary School, 93 days ago. The latest in this trend is emanating from the visit facilitated for the 11 parents and five escaped girls who were visiting Abuja to interact with girl-child education advocate Malala Yousafzai.
During the public speech by Ms. Malala she declared that she had received a promise by President Jonathan to meet with the 11 parents and five girls. The movement was not aware and neither was it part of the discussion of the said visit to our President.
However, at the BBOG daily sit out, our movement was informed by the Chairman, Abuja Chibok community of the outcome of a meeting held with officials of the Presidency in Malala's suite (immediately after her speech). He conveyed that they were informed at that meeting of a the scheduling of the visit to the President for the eleven parents and five girls at 4.00pm on Tuesday 15th July 2014.
Although some members of the movement were surprised at the sudden invitation to meet with the President, our leadership concluded that session by emphasizing that it was the absolute right of the Chibok community to decide on the matter. It is instructive to note that majority of those at the Unity Fountain on that day were visiting from the Chibok community and were mostly the ones who vehemently expressed dismay at the information from the Chairman. He then clarified on the manner the invitation was conveyed to him and the parents at that meeting and reassured his community that he would schedule an emergency meeting to discuss the matter further.
On Tuesday 15th July 2014, the leadership of our movement were invited to a meeting by the Chibok Chairman and the leadership of their development association with the eleven parents in attendance. At the meeting they conveyed to us their unanimous decision to request for a rescheduling of the Malala facilitated meeting with the President. They further informed us of their intention to reach out to the Malala team and officials of the Presidency to request for an expanded meeting within a sufficient time frame for necessary planning with the rest of their community in Chibok.
We want to repeat for the avoidance of doubt that we are not responsbile for the cancellation of the meeting with the President by the 11 Parents and 5 escaped girls from Chibok as been insinuated by some Government officials
As a movement, we wish to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude to Malala who helped amplify the advocacy for concerted efforts towards the rescue of our girls.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to firmly state that since the inception of our movement in April 2014, we have remained steadfast and adopted all means and channels of civil engagement in the advocacy of our singular issue, which is #BringBackOurGirls NOW and ALIVE

Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life denies banning Ipads & phones in his church

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 07:36 AM PDT

The General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, has denied media reports that he banned the use of Ipads and Iphones in his church. He released a statement to that effect on his Facebook page. Find it after the cut...

THIS REPORT IS FALSE.

There was never a time as referred to in the article, when Pastor W.F. Kumuyi made this statement or "BANNED" the use of mobile devices in the Church.

As much as every Christ-loving believer is encouraged to give God his/her full attention when in Church or in any other place, where the Word of God is being taught, this story is HIGHLY MISCHIEVOUS and MISLEADING.

There is no doubt that Technology has its place in the spread of the gospel message as well as believers' development where such is put into proper use but its misuse or abuse is not encouraged.

"Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: FOR ALL MEN HAVE NOT FAITH. But the Lord is faithful, WHO SHALL STABLISH YOU, and KEEP YOU FROM EVIL" 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3.

Remember, it is not everything from these sources that is true!

May the Lord keep you in the Truth and not be tossed about by errors, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

What she didn't count on was that people will notice the difference between the photo she posted and the original image (pictured left). Trust the fans, they were quick to point out the difference, accusing Kim of Photoshopping the image.

German abducted by unknown gunmen in Adamawa this morning

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 04:01 AM PDT

A German national simply identified as Mr Fisch has been abducted by gunmen in Gombi town in Adamawa state. According to Premium Times, Mr Fisch, who runs a free of charge technical school in Adamawa state was said to be on his way to work when he was abducted around 7am this morning around the Anguwan Faransa area of the town. A resident of the area said the gunmen laid a siege on the man's house and accosted him as he came out of his house to enter his car
"The abductors laid siege on his house, and they came on motorcycles. As soon as the man came out and was about to get into his car, two persons on foot approached him and pointed a gun at him. They now called the two sets on motorcycles who approached them and they carried him away on their motorcycle. Almost everybody in this town knows him because he helps us a lot, especially in the area of repairing the town's water bore holes. Most of the time he uses his own money to buy equipment and repair our boreholes," he added.
When contacted, the German Embassy said they are yet to receive any report of any of their citizens being abducted but would immediately look into it

Actress Zoe Saldana is not interested in being friends with her exes

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 03:53 AM PDT

Zoe Saldana says she has no interest in being friends with any of her ex boyfriends because she sees no sense in remaining friends after a break up. The actress, who dated actor Bradley Cooper for two years and had an 11-year relationship with businessman, Keith Britton, opened up about her former lovers in the August issue of Marie Claire. Zoe explains why she can't be friends with an ex...
"I have been in relationships where a man has disrespected me, and I don't need to be friends with that man anymore. I don't want to be the one going, 'I'm cool, because I'm friends with all my exes.' There's a reason why you're called an ex. I crossed you off my list. Moving on. You cross a line, you need to know that you're going to walk this earth knowing that there's an individual who has no respect for you." she said. Continue...
On what she learned about relationships:
"Not to settle. If you're not happy with a person, leave. And wait until you find that one person who makes you feel good about yourself every single day and is not expecting you to change, but to grow."
Zoe, who is expecting her first child with husband of one year, artist Marco Perego, says she knew he was the one from the very beginning.
"I don't do the ABCs. I do what my heart says, what my heart feels. So from the moment I met my husband, we were together. We knew."

Armed robbers who dress up as women to rob, arrested & paraded in Ibadan

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 05:18 AM PDT

An armed robbery gang who specialize in dressing up as women and robbing unsuspecting victims have been arrested by the Oyo State police Command. They were paraded recently where they told their stories. Vanguard reports
An unsuspecting womanizer would easily fall into their traps seeing their feminine faces made-up with cosmetics, with weave-on hairdo that dangles on both sides of their broad shoulders.
Their coated lips look inviting. No doubt, countless men must have fallen prey to them. Many passersby who thronged the state headquarters of the Police command at Eleiyele, Ibadan to catch a glimpse of these attractive "women" could not hide their disbelief.
Though, their chests were flat which should convince doubting Thomases that the suspects were not women, some still insisted on seeing their private parts due to their looks.

But, behind these deceptive looks are more than meets the ordinary eye. The hearts of both Omooba Oyewole and Lawal Kabir are fortified with cold steel. They are suspected dare-devil robbers. If they have conscience, it must be made of solid concrete.

One of the suspects, Lawal Kabir whose eyelids blink momentarily like a doll in the old Kingsway Store claims to be a devout Muslim and considers only Fridays and the Ramadan period as sacred days in the whole year when he thinks he should not engage in armed robbery.

These days, especially Fridays, he said, he would go to the mosque to pray to God to forgive all his criminal tendencies only to continue his devilish acts thereafter. In fact, the suspect said he was arrested on Friday after observing the Jumat prayers.

Given their looks, one needed no soothsayer to discern that the suspects had carried out numerous deadly attacks on their victims even though they admitted to have participated in no fewer than four successful robbery operations.

According to them, they had made people cry in places like Osun, Sawmill, Iyana-Agbala and other places when they unleashed terror on them. Knowing their days of reckoning had finally come, the eight-man gang confessed some of the crimes they had committed to Crime Alert.

Ayodele Olaitan, who wore a mask, one of the tools they use in their nefarious activities shook his head in regret and said: "It was my friends that pushed me into this. I joined the gang sometime ago and I have participated in at least three robbery operations.

I am not the owner of the mask you see on me. It belongs to one of us called pastor. He is dead now. I regret all my actions. I didn't realize we could be caught. But, now the game is up, " he said as he burst into tears.

Like other criminals, Lawal Kabir said he was pushed into the criminal world as a result of an unsuccessful business venture. "I took to robbery when my plumbing work was not booming.

Three years after my freedom as an apprentice, I tried all I could to make both ends meet, but things did not work for me. I first stayed in Lagos before I later came to Ibadan where I was introduced to a gang of armed robbers. I have participated in four armed robbery attacks.

I went with them to Osun State, Ibadan, Sawmill and Iyana -Agbala. I was arrested on Friday after I finished praying in the mosque. Somebody we call a pastor, also a member of the gang called me without knowing the police had already arrested him.

I don't rob on Fridays and during Ramadan. I used those periods to pray to God to forgive me my sins. I know what I was doing was wrong but it was difficult for me to break away from it."

Another member of the gang, Biola Alaba who wore a weave-on hairdo said they were eight in number and that they were arrested at a drinking joint while preparing to carry out a robbery operation at Bodija area of the city. He denied ever killing any of their victims.

"How can I commit two sins at the same time. I cannot rob and kill at the same time. It is unfair to rob someone of his belongings and kill him. We don't even rape our victims, " he said.

As for Sunday Omooba from Ogbomoso who says he is a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, he narrated how he took charge of the armoury for the gang. "I helped them get bullets through one man. I just call the man any time I need bullets for the gang.

I don't rob with them. In fact, I did not know that they were using the bullets to rob. I also supplied that pump action gun to them. I bought the gun for N70,000 from a friend. If I knew that they would use the weapons for robbery, I would not give them."

The Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case alleged that Omooba supplied the pump action gun and killed the owner of the gun so that he could get the gun from him and did not give the money he promised to give him.

Other suspects who are car snatchers including those who bought the stolen vehicles from them were also arrested in Kaduna and Kano. Two of the suspects, Dolapo Olayinka and Yusuf Ibrahim, robber and accomplice respectively; gave their own accounts. Olayinka said he only used his commercial motorcycle to convey the robbers who dispossessed people of their items. He recalled how they crossed a woman's vehicle and took N20,000 from her at gun point.

The owners of the stolen vehicles were at the police command to identify their vehicles. All of them pleaded anonymity for fear of being attacked by yet-to-be-identified members of the gang.

One of them said his car, a Toyota Camry, was snatched at gunpoint on October 1, last year around 8pm and he reported at the Special Anti robbery squad.

He specifically commended the efforts of one SP Sola Aremu, the O/C SARS, Ogbomoso and his boys for going ahead to recover the car. He said: "I am full of thanks to the police. I never thought I could recover my car again. The SARS in Ogbomoso acted promptly. I have never seen police work like that."

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa said, "sequel to tip-offs about a criminal hideout at a mechanic village, Iyana Church, Ibadan, a raid was organized and SARS operatives arrested the following suspected armed robbers: Olaitan Ayodele, Abiola Alaba, Oyewole Ogunwole, Adedeji Mustapha, Omooba Oyewole and Adedeji Mustapha. On interrogation, they all confessed to their past and present crimes within and outside Oyo State. They also confessed to have attacked and robbed two police officers.

All the people they confessed to have robbed were contacted and they corroborated their confessions.

In order to recover some of their loot as well as arms and ammunition, a search was conducted in the house of the leader of the gang, one Ayodele Olaitan along Airport Road, Ibadan and the following exhibits were recovered; one pump action gun, one English cut-to-size double barrel gun, one single-barrel gun, locally made cylinders and many others.

Photo: Security operatives arrest fake Boko Haram

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 01:23 AM PDT

The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of a man who specializes in creating panic by sending out text messages threatening attack by Boko Haram terrorists.

The suspect, Ugwu Lawrence (pictured) who was tracked by security operatives after dispatching text messages of impending bombings of some hotels in Abuja, confessed that he employed the gimmick because the management of one of the organisation failed to offer him employment.

The suspect further confessed that his motive was a ploy to instil fear in the mind of the management's chairman, and pleaded that he is actually not a terrorist. The suspect is still undergoing further interrogation preparatory to prosecution.
