| EFCC arraigns 3 suspected impostors for N141.7m securities scam Posted: 07 Jul 2014 11:52 AM PDT    The stocks originally belonged to Alhaji Shande Ako Dzungwe and Alhaji Isa Koto (both deceased) but were fraudulently claimed, converted and sold by the three defendants. Lawan allegedly forged identity cards, drivers licenses; school certificates and international passports of both Dzungwe and Koto, to perfect the scam. The total value of shares converted and sold by the three defendants was N141,652,951( One Hundred and Forty One Million, Six Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty One Naira)   Counsel to the three defendants, J. H. Bashir, informed the court of his bail application and a written address, urging the court to grant the defendants bail. He specifically prayed the court to admit the defendants to bail "owing to their fragile health condition," but Giwa countered that the EFCC had been taking good care of the medical needs of the defendants. Justice Akapo, after listening to both counsel, adjourned the case till July 8, 2014 for ruling on bail applications and ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos. One of the charge reads: "Mohammed Rabiu Lawan (alias Shande Ako Dzungwe), Raphael Olorunfemi Okomoda, Adegbesan Theophilus and others (still at large) on or about the 16th day of May, 2013 at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud, conspired to obtain the sum of N11, 493,137.83 (Eleven Million, Four Hundred and Ninety Three Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty Seven Naira, Eighty Six Kobo) property of late Shande Ako Dzungwe". Another count read: "Mohammed Rabiu Lawan (alias Isa Koto) on or about the 16th of May, 2013 at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud posed as Alhaji Isa Koto and fraudulently instructed Fidelity Security Limited to sell 216,625 units of Guinness Plc shares valued at N44,092,048 (Forty Four Million, Ninety Two Thousand and Forty Eight Naira) and transferred the proceeds into a Fidelity Bank account you opened in the name of the said Alhaji Isa Koto and withdrew same". She then posted the video to her Facebook page. Personally, I don't see how this is a big deal but the hospital management released a statement saying the nurse, named Chintia, has been fired. A levy of N20,000 was also imposed on non-indegenes of the state by school management. | Photos: Imo police arrests 25 undergraduate cult students, parades them Posted: 07 Jul 2014 05:16 AM PDT  The Imo state Police command yesterday July 6th paraded 25 suspected and prospective cult members of some polytechnics in Imo state, including the Alvan Ikoku College of Education and Imo state Polytechnic. The Police acting on a tip off from residents of Emi village in Owerri North local government area stormed the Emi river at about 3.30am when initiation process for new members was being carried out. The young men were arrested after a gun battle with the police. Marijuana, weapons and all manner of charms were found with them. Continue...  However, some of the students who were arrested said they were being initiated against their will. One of them, Emenike Lawrence (pictured above) said he followed one of his friend out to see another friend who had promised to buy them drink and it was when they got to the bar that he was beaten and taken to a forest for initiation "I went out with one of his friend who said I should follow him to go and see someone, a friend of his. I escorted him because he said that his friend is going to buy us drink and that if we drink we would come back, that is at Mission side. We reached there, some boys came out and started beating me. They took me inside a very big forest and then started beating us. That was their form of initiation before the police came and started shooting gun." he said  "They call them cult but I see them as potential armed robbers, kidnappers. These are guys that are being initiated into this kind of horrendous crime. We are trying to see if we can link them to the robbery, kidnap and murder cases that we are investigating at the moment.
