Posted: 20 Jul 2014 06:24 AM PDT

Below is a press statement from the Force Headquarters
A member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Assistant-Inspector Lasisi Kabir Iyanda, has been arrested and detained in Police custody over the brutal murder, on 27 June, 2014, of a 32-year-old Kamaldeen Muritala, an Islamic Religious Knowledge teacher attached to Titilope Islamic Comprehensive High School, Ejigbo, Osun State.
Preliminary enquiry by Police detectives from the Osun State Police Command, Osogbo reveals that the victim, Kamaldeen Muritala died at Baptist Hospital Ejigbo from complications arising from fatal stab wounds inflicted on his neck with a jack-knife by the NSCDC member during an argument close to the entrance of an examination hall where National Examination Council (NECO) examination was taking place. Continue...

Following the demise of the deceased Islamic teacher, students of the school attempted to raze down office structures belonging to the NSCDC as well as those of other government establishments in the area, but the timely intervention of the Police prevented further breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, the Police High Command has commended the officers and men of Osun State Police Command for their timely intervention which helped to rescue the 30-year-old suspect concerned as well as other property and whittle down what otherwise might have turned into a major catastrophe. The apex Police Authority however, enjoins citizens never to take laws into their own hands no matter the provocation, promising that justice would be served in this case.

Some residents of the village said they know that the house is owned by a man who though dead now, was greatly feared as he was a very mysterious person. They said they know he had an underground but did not know it was used to harbor kidnapped victims.

What Lil Wayne & The Dream have in common. Creepy connection

Rapper Lil Wayne is rumoured to be dating or at least chopping down singer Christina Milian. The two label mates were spotted holding hands as they arrived the ESPYs together last week (pic on the right). Their dating doesn't seem creepy at first until you hear their back story. See below...

Christina Milian was once married to The Dream and they have a daughter together. (pictured centre)
Lil Wayne dated and has a son with singer Nivea. (pictured left)
Nivea was once married to The Dream and they have 3 children. So Nivea has children with both Lil Wayne and The Dream.

And now Lil Wayne is reportedly dating Christian Milian. It means Christina Milian's daughter and Lil Wayne's son have three half-siblings in common. So imagine if these two have a kid together, won't they be somehow related? Lol. This is what happens when everyone is sleeping with everyone!

Dear LIB readers: Can I ask a girl out after just one date with her sister?

Posted: 20 Jul 2014 03:49 AM PDT

From a male LIB reader
I met this pretty girl at a friend's house just last month and I took her out to lunch a few days later. We exchanged a few phone calls and text messages and I was feeling her until I met someone else just two weeks later. The girl invited me to birthday party and when I got there, I fell for the celebrant who happens to be the girl's older sister. I've been on just one date with this girl and I've never touched or even kissed her so can I ask her older sister out? I managed to get her number at her birthday party but I don't know what the younger sister may have told her about us. Nothing happened, I swear. I can't stop thinking about the older sister, she's more my type. I wish I had met her first and yes she's single. Should I make the move? I need your advise. Thanks

Not all African women believe 'black is beautiful' and that’s OK - by Sede Alonge

Posted: 20 Jul 2014 03:23 AM PDT

I came across a somewhat controversial article on skin bleaching by African women in the UK Telegraph, written by a Nigerian writer and lawyer, Sede Alonge, and I thought to bring it here so we can read and discuss. Sola makes a case for women who bleach for why they shouldn't be made to feel like they are betraying their race for wanting to change their skin colour. Read below...
Toning. Lightening. Brightening. Whitening. While the marketing slogans promoting skin enhancement in Africa might be varied, the underlying effects are pretty identical. Although I do not use skin lightening products, I live in Nigeria where millions of women do.
On offer in my local shops are a myriad of products designed to make dark skin lighter: Kojic acid soaps, fade creams, hydroquinone creams, whitening shower gels made from goat milk and for the more determined: skin lightening injections. Continue...
Sede Alonge
So when last month Vera Sidika (pictured above), a popular Kenyan model and socialite, publicly admitted to spending tons of money bleaching her skin, she added fuel to an already smoking hot fire. Just one admission was enough to re-ignite the fierce debate about Africans's perception of beauty.
A bullish Sidika says she is proud of the way she looks and thinks African societies are hypocritical on this thorny issue. But her honesty roused the ire of many social media users across the continent.

Passions inevitably run high among Africans whenever someone brings into play racial issues. On the topic of skin whitening, emotionally charged slogans such as "black is beautiful" are often employed in an attempt to make women like Sidika feel as if they are somehow betraying their race. Such women are then accused of having inferiority complexes towards white people.

In Nigeria, where 77 per cent of women use skin lightening products, according to a recent World Health Organisation report, the mainstream African commentariat, which is mostly male-dominated, projects a strong bias against the practice. I myself am a dark skinned Nigerian woman who does not use whitening creams or soaps, but I feel that while there are valid health concerns as to the side-effects of skin lightening products, it should remain an individual's prerogative to be who or what they want to be.

Yes, black is beautiful, but so also is white, brown, yellow and the many shades in between.

When white people use tanning lotions, solariums and other methods to darken their skin, it is treated as par for the course and other white people don't feel the need to remind them that "white is beautiful". In fact, such a statement would likely be regarded as racist by members of other races.

Yes, I understand that there was a specific historical context in the US and elsewhere which, at the time, necessitated the use of the "black is beautiful" slogan in order to boost black people's sense of self-worth and identity, but this is 2014 and we should have gotten beyond that by now. Or are self-affirming slogans going to be needed by black people forever?

People's desire to have a particular skin tone, be it a darker or lighter one, stems from them wanting to be more attractive and sometimes for others to take notice. And more often than not, in the case of an individual who has undergone skin lightening here in Africa, it works. The critics might be unwilling to concede this publicly, but the harsh truth is that in Africa, lighter skinned girls do get more attention and are more appreciated than darker skinned women.

It is not unusual to often hear Nigerian men say things like: "Oh, I met this beautiful girl the other day, she had a great body…and she was fair in complexion." But then these same men would hypocritically voice outrage if a Nigerian woman, especially one in the public eye, openly admitted to bleaching her skin. If skin tone didn't matter at all to Nigerian men, skin lightening creams and soaps wouldn't be flying off the shelves over here as they are right now. In Nigerian music videos too, one can notice a glaring preference for lighter skinned females. The niggling suspicion remains that my society is more self delusional on questions of identity and its perception of beauty than it cares to admit.

Physical attraction is instinctive and lighter skinned women are bound to attract more attention from men in a dark skinned society such as Nigeria – just like darker skinned people do in predominantly white societies. Such interest does not have to be due to any sort of complex and is often simply mere curiosity of the different.

Skin lightening should not be automatically regarded as an individual's outright rejection of their race. If a woman feels that lightening her skin will make her prettier or more confident, then society should let her be and not impose itself as judge and jury on her concept of beauty. It is high-time Africans stop being hysterical and overly-defensive about issues of their self worth and identity.

Shock pics: T.I & Tiny photographed skinny dipping with two women

Posted: 20 Jul 2014 02:55 AM PDT

There have been rumours for many years about rapper T.I and his wife Tiny's lifestyle choices. A few groupies have claimed the Hip Hop couple are swingers and have invited them to join them in bed for threesomes. One groupie even wrote a tell-all book back in 2010 on how Tiny approached her after finding out she was sleeping with T.I and asked to join in.

Anyway, fast forward to July 2014 and photos have emerged of T.I and Tiny skinny dipping in a Jacuzzi with two other women. It doesn't seem so weird at first until you realize that T.I is actually naked...he's naked in front of other women with his wife right there! Lol. Choi! Guess to keep a man like T.I requires some extreme measures. Do you, Tiny! See the pic after the cut...*graphic pic*

Or some of you don't find this weird? Your husband naked around other women...??

Project Fame Unleashes 7th Season of Great Entertainment

Posted: 19 Jul 2014 02:26 PM PDT

As the MTN Project Fame Season 7 begins this July, 2014, families and the youth across Anglophone West Africa will be expecting the usual excitement and suspense that have endeared them to the reality show in the past seven years. The TV musical reality show's audience will be glued to their TV sets all evening to watch, rate and applaud extraordinary performances from young and promising superstars who will be aiming to win the highest prize at the end of 13 weeks of intense competition. Continue...

The optimism among the show's audience finds expression in its unequalled rate of productivity. In its class, the show stands head and shoulder above competition having contributed immensely to the increase in the talent base of the sub region's music industry. This accolade is laudable even as critics of the show have often acknowledged the emergence of Iyanya, Chidinma Ekile and Kesse from Ghana as a perfect example of how to nurture ordinary people into superstars. That is, essentially, remarkable.

From this weekend, the sweet serenade from the Adrenaline band and the judges' verdicts that follow each contestant's performance will be the cynosure of millions of fans who will tune in daily – either on terrestrial TV stations or satellite – to watch West Africa unleash its finest musical talent.

What is more, the Faculty comprising Joke Silva, Ben Ogbeiwi, Kaffy and Miss Ige are expected to be as endearing and moderately stern, to headline another great season.

As well, there will be the charm that follows each stretch of sentence – either announcing a performance or appealing to the audience – when Joseph Benjamin and Adora Oleh anchor the reality show again.

Indeed, Project Fame possesses the right degree of creativity that has continued to push the frontiers of family entertainment and redefine the nurturing act as it pertains to musical talent. Occasionally, established artistes visit the academy to mentor the contestants and give them that rare privilege of performing together on the same stage. Last year was memorable in that regard. The social media was awash with commentaries ranging from tweets and facebook mentions when Wale Ojo, the eventual best contestant, performed alongside Tiwa Savage. They formed a perfect blend and their rendition was seamless.

This is it. The presentation, packaging and scripting of each show is ingenuous; little wonder it has maintained its status as the best musical reality show for over seven years. This year, attention will be drawn to who emerges the winner and who will be embracing a new musical genre as we have seen Ayobami and Adetoun  do – both transforming from R n B crooners to Afro-beat and Waka respectively.

Project Fame Season 7 will surpass expectations, especially with backings from MTN, Nigeria's leading ICT and telecommunications company.
