Ibrahimovic offered £59million deal to move to China

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 12:59 PM PDT

The man with the biggest ego in football, otherwise known as Ibracadabra, has worked his magic again. Who else gets an offer this huge? The PSG star is out of contract at the end of the season and with many top clubs falling over themselves to land the talismanic striker, he can have his pick of the bunch. One offer that has stood out though is from the Chinese Super League, the Asian nation is so eager to have the 34-year-old, the government is willing to finance a deal.

If he settles for the lucrative deal, it will be the ideal ride into the sunset for a player whose trophy cabinet creaks under the weight of his many medals.

Unlawful incarceration of colleague: Ekiti House drags DSS, FG to court

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 12:45 PM PDT

Read the statement below...
The Ekiti State House of Assembly says it has instructed its counsel to seek redress and damages over what it calls "the undemocratic, unpatriotic, dictatorial and brutish" incarceration of one of its members, Mr Afolabi Akanni, by the Department of State Services (DSS) for 18 days with neither explanation nor trial in court.
The House of Assembly, which condemned "strongly the illegal arrest, detention and dehumanization of Honourable Akanni" and demanded unreserved apology, made this disclosure on Wednesday at a press conference held at its chamber in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Reading the text of the address to journalists, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Youths and Sports, Chief Olugboyega Aribisogan, said that the DSS did not contact any stakeholder to intimate them of the release of Akanni, adding that members of the House read the news, like every other Nigerians, online on Tuesday night. "Up till this moment, we have not been told officially by the DSS whether or not Honourable Akanni was formally released from incarceration after spending 18 days without access to his doctors, lawyers and family members.

"However, preliminary information available to us suggests that Honourable Akanni may have been brought to the hospital by men of the DSS and abandoned there because they could no longer hold him in captivity because of his deteriorating health condition.

"Nigerians should be reminded that it took the rumour of Honourable Akanni's death for the DSS to admit officially that it was holding him after spending 15 days in detention without access to anyone. As we speak, Honourable Akanni is in very critical condition and he has not been able to speak with anyone of us.

"We, therefore, demand an official explanation from the DSS as to why Honourable Akanni was abducted and held incommunicado for 18 days, only for us to be told that he was admitted in a private hospital in Abuja.

"Furthermore, we demand an explanation from the DSS whether in a democracy, it is part of its mandate to disobey court orders and dump Nigerians in detention for 18 days over unfounded allegations. "Most importantly, we condemn strongly the DSS illegal arrest, detention and dehumanization of Honourable Akanni and we demand an unreserved apology forthwith.

"We have also directed our counsel to seek redress and damages in court, because, to us, this act of impunity by the DSS under President Muhammadu Buhari is undemocratic, unpatriotic, dictatorial and brutish," Aribisogan said.

The House also alleged that the DSS had been going about sniffing about its members' secondary school qualifications, adding, however, that they were not bothered about this. The members said they wished to advise the DSS to pay attention to the growing insecurity in the country, instead of acting as an arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) "to pursue the evil agenda of destabilizing the Ayo Fayose-led government," adding that the Assembly members remained united and resolutely committed to the development of Ekiti State as being championed by Governor Fayose.

Speaker of the House, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, during a question and answer session with journalists, noted that it was wrong for anyone to have accused the state governor of lying when he raised the alarm that Honourable Akanni had died in DSS detention last week.

He said the information received by the government, as confirmed by Akanni himself when he was eventually shown on television, indicated that he had been so sick to the extent that he collapsed twice in a single day.

"For anyone who saw such a person slump and probably was not revived before the privilege of information was terminated, would it be wrong to say such a victim had died? The answer is no! Akanni did slump but lived, the outcome could have been otherwise," he said.

Football star quits Belgium with family after Brussels terror attack, says 'it made him fear for his life'

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 10:01 AM PDT

Top football star Matias Suarez who plays for Belgium's biggest club Anderlecht has decided to call it quits with football in Belgium after yesterday's terrorists attack at one of the country's airports.

Suarez, from Argentina, whose club is based in Brussels, says he has informed his agent and is determined to leave the club and country as soon as possible saying he fears for the safety of his family.
The Argentine forward has revealed that Belgium is a different place since the attacks on Paris in November.
"It's nothing to do with the country, which is incredible," he said. "I love Belgium and the people here. But I've talked to my agent and my wife already and for the safety of the family we've decided to leave in June. After everything that happened in Paris, people have changed completely here. In the streets and shopping centres you don't see many people. People basically don't leave their homes because of this fear. In Brussels we have a neighbourhood where lots of jihadists live and lots of people who are involved in these awful things and, unfortunately, talking to my wife and my friends we knew something like this was going to happen. I wasn't at home, I was on the way to training in the morning and listening to the radio when I found out. I was very scared. I tried ringing to find out if my daughter was okay and if I had to go and get her. It's scary, more than anything for the family. That is why we will leave."

Era of rice importation gone for good - Governor Ambode

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:45 AM PDT

Read the press statement below..
In line with the persistent calls for a paradigm shift from over dependence on oil as the major earner of the country, the Lagos State Government and Kebbi State on Wednesday entered into a partnership on the establishment of a commodity value chain that will give a quantum leap to food processing, production and distribution.
The partnership is aimed at bringing about national food sufficiency and food security, as well as creating employment and wealth distribution for the benefit of both states and the nation in general.

Speaking at the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two states held at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said the partnership signaled the commencement of a new beginning of cooperation and common-sense revolution, which is line with the change mantra of All Progressives Congress (APC) that calls for patriotism in all facets of life.
Governor Ambode, who said the partnership would bring an end to the era of imported rice in the country, noted that there was no doubt about the economic prowess of the country to produce rice locally.
"This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that two States are collaborating to develop their agricultural potentials. We have the economic prowess to produce rice locally. The era of imported rice is gone. The reality is for all of us to embrace the consumption of local foodstuff and commodities," he said.
The Governor acknowledged the fact that the future of Lagos is partly tied to deliberate resolution on food security, and that food production and self-sufficiency required immediate attention at policy and strategic levels to sustain the country, hence the need for the partnership.

"Lagos State is the largest consumer of food commodities in Nigeria by virtue of our State population. We have the market, with the required purchasing power also. Lagos State has an estimated consumption of over 798,000 metric tonnes of milled Rice per year which is equivalent to 15.96 million of 50kg bags, with a value of N135 billion per annum," he said.
In addition to rice, Governor Ambode said Lagos is presently consuming 6,000 herds of cattle daily which may increase to 8,000 in the next 5years, adding that the bulk of vegetables produced in the country eventually end up in the Lagos markets.
He added: "Lagos State is one of the largest producers of poultry and thus has a large demand for maize for livestock feed production. The State also houses most of the industrial users of wheat and sorghum; mostly flour mills, bakeries, breweries and food manufacturers.
"Kebbi State, on the other hand, is blessed with a vast arable land suitable for the cultivation of Rice, Wheat, Ground nut, Maize, Sorghum and Sugar cane.
"It is an agrarian State with over 1.2 million hectares of arable land characterised by very large floodplains, lowland swamps and gentle slopes. In the 2014 / 2015 wet season, over 600,000 Hectares of land was deployed for Rice cultivation in the three senatorial areas of the State.
"The people are traditionally Rice farmers with average land holding of about 10 Hectares. Presently, Kebbi has over 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy in store produced from the last 2 planting seasons.
"With these considerations in mind, Lagos State and Kebbi State have decided to collaborate and exploit our areas of comparative advantage to create value for both States. This alliance will ensure Food Security, job creation, increase in farmers' income and the overall improvement in the living conditions of the residents of both states through wealth creation and poverty reduction.
"This collaboration is in line with the clarion call and policy direction given by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, on the need to feed ourselves," Governor Ambode stated.
The joint venture between the two states, Governor Ambode explained, will be implemented using a Special Purpose Vehicle known as LASKEB Agricultural Production and Marketing Company (LAPMCO), adding that the major areas of focus will be the development of commodity value chains with emphasis on Rice, Wheat, Ground Nut, Onions, Maize/Sorghum and Beef.
Speaking further on the agreement, Governor Ambode said: "The numerous thousands of our market women and men can become key employers of labour as distributors of 'Ibile Rice'. We can also brand and package rice in the names of our distributors and market women. As a State, we shall adopt our local rice as a State dish in all ramifications.
"The special purpose vehicle will allow the entrance of private sector investors and other states in expanding the rice mill at Imota, Ikorodu and other locations. We have already designated the 100 hectare land at Imota as the Agric Park in the State. Other locations in and outside the State will be vigorously activated to fulfill our mission in record time."
Also speaking at the event, which was attended by top government functionaries, traditional rulers and members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) from both states, Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu thanked Governor Ambode for providing leadership and innovation that brought about the partnership, adding that same was in line with the effort of President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to restructure Nigeria away from overdependence on oil.

Governor Bagudu said in the world of genetically modified food, the partnership between Lagos and Kebbi was an additional motivation to provide certainties for the people in terms of food production and sufficiency, and that the goal is to produce 60 to 70 percent of Nigeria's Rice needs, and replicate same in other food items.
He said the agreement had the broadest public acceptance in Kebbi State, and that the people, especially farmers in the state, are delighted to partner with Lagos, which he described as the most entrepreneurial part of Nigeria.
He said Lagos and Kebbi have had a long history of trade, and that the signing of the MoU was a further way of cementing the relationship with the view to make the people to get richer.
"Lagos is the most entrepreneurial part of Nigeria. Lagos, if it were a country on itself, is a country that other states will be going to establish a relationship and so why not state to state. So, what we are doing is that we are pioneering a collaboration that will bring other states on board later and we believe that our potentials is enormous and we must have pacesetters to start that process of joint collaboration for our collective good," Governor Bagudu said.

Video: mother of co-joined twins at Enugu hospital beg for help after hospital allegedly insists on carrying out surgery

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:32 AM PDT

Mrs Mary Ayeni who delivered a set of twins co-joined at the abdominal area has publicly asked for help after the Enugu hospital she delivered the twins allegedly insisted that they must carry out the operation to separate the twins, saying they were capable and did a similar operation in the 80's.

The woman who wants the children to have the best medical care and ensure the children live, has asked the hospital for scan sheets and medical documents so the babies could be transferred to a better hospital that has good medical facilities and expertise to ensure safe surgery, but the hospital has refused, claiming they can successfully carry out the surgery as they had done it in the 80's.

The hospital management is yet to comment on the issue. Watch the video below...

'I don't know what to do. If I give myself up I'll end up in a cell': airport Suicide bomber left note in a bin before blowing himself up

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:24 AM PDT

Ibrahim El Bakraoui (top left, and circled centre right), who helped kill 14 people when he set off his suicide vest at Brussels airport yesterday, left his will in the bin of the terror cell's Schaerbeek safehouse. The note, found next to 15kg of homemade explosives, an AK-47 and an ISIS flag, said: 'I don't know what to do. I'm in a hurry. I'm on the run. People are looking for me everywhere. And if I give myself up then I'll end up in a cell.'

Brussels master bombmaker Najim Laachraoui (above) - known as the 'Man in White' - is still on the run today after evading a series of special forces raids following the deadly attacks which killed 34 yesterday.

This morning Belgian media reported that the ISIS explosives expert was taken alive by a SWAT team inside a pizzeria in the Anderlecht suburb of the city - but Belgium's chief prosecutor says 'he is still at large'.

The latest twist came after Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui, who blew up the Metro train killing 20, were named as two of the ISIS suicide bombers - eight days after they escaped police in a gunfight - and it is now clear there is a mystery fourth suicide bomber.

Laachraoui was already one of the world's most wanted men, having built the suicide vests that helped kill 130 in Paris last November, and went on the run with Salah Abdeslam before hiding in Brussels for four months.

Fw: Photos: Nigerian-born first black British royal, Viscountess Emma Weymouth marks 30th birthday with themed party

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:12 AM PDT

Viscountess Weymouth, born Emma McQuiston- Jadesimi and her husband, Viscount Weymouth threw open the doors to their splendid Longleat home last weekend to host an Elizabethan-themed party in honour of her 30th birthday. Rapper Eve and model Eunice Olumide were among the privileged guests at the party. The birthday girl looked ravishing in a white leotard-style dress that she topped off with a glittering tiara.

Emma McQuiston, the daughter of Nigeria oil magnate Ladi Jadesimi made history by becoming Britain's first black Marchioness when she wedded the heir to the Longleat Estate, Ceawlin Thynne, the Viscount of Weymouth in June 2013. The former TV chef who gave birth to their first son in 2014, told the press that she has encountered racism, prejudice from Britain's prominent rich and snobbery from the upper class, including her mother-in-inlwa who described her son's marriage to Emma as a "disruption of 400 years of English bloodline"

Speaking exclusively to HELLO about the birth of her son, Emma explained how her baby boy brought new life to Longleat.

"It feels like a renaissance. It's always been vibrant here- there's always something exciting going on - but it's a new generation, a new dynamic. It's a very exciting time. Ceawlin held him first and then put him on my chest. I was just like, 'Wow.' You forget everything, nothing else matters once you have a baby. It made our relationship stronger because we've had something serious to cope with"

Man captures 16ft python hiding under his bed with just a broomstick (photos)

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:05 AM PDT

What do you do if you spot a 16ft, 30kg snake under your bed? Such a scene is best imagined than real but for one man, it seemed just another day at the office. A certain Mr Naja from Thailand spotted one such beast under his bed and he calmly picked up the snake with the help of a broom handle and released it into its natural habitat.

The python has reportedly been terrorizing the village for 20 years, feasting on chickens and other livestock. If you spot such a creature under your bed of all places, it's probably time to call in the prayer warriors. Lol.
