Posted: 07 Mar 2016 12:55 PM PST Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka and human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana have criticized individuals masking Ese Oruru's abduction with religion, adding that the perpetrator should be prosecuted so the victim could get justice. Both men spoke during a joint press conference titled 'Justice At Bay: The Long, Twisted Road to Ese' held on Sunday, March 6, in Lagos. "Culture is not static; it is dynamic and evolves. It is humanity. Ther is no culture without human beings. If you say you are religious, there are others who could come to say they are holier than you are. We should take religion out of Ese's abduction. We are talking about criminality. Nobody should say people are Islamaphobic. We are only against criminality. Who invokes religion in criminal matters? Who brings religion into issues of government and constitution? If you want to bring religion into a criminal matter, then let us talk about other things. When we are talking about crime, don't diffuse it with religion." Soyinka stated. He also berated Ishaq Akintola, a professor of Islamic Eschatology and Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) who claims that Islam has no age barrier in marriage and compared Ese's case to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. "I want to ask him who invoked religion in the first place? What everybody was screaming was that this was a crime, a criminal act. Who brought religion into a purely criminal act? People should be very careful when they speak. They should take care not to worsen an already inexcusable situation by dragging religion into it. Soyinka said. "People bring their own intelligence into matters and think others are fooks. Dont quote Shakespear when we are discussing criminality. The welfare of a child is more important than the money stolen. If you steal money, you commit crime against the society by when you force a child into marriage, you have ruined her for life. When criminality is in the public domain, it becomes everyvody's business," The eminent playwright said society failed Ese and it was the responsibility of the government to protect other underage female from child marriages like the one conducted with a teenager by a former governor. "Until we make an example of people like Yerima, there will be thousands of Yunusa," he added. On his part, Falana said under Section 38 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, no child of school age should be forced to convert to another religion other than his parents. The section says: "No person attending any place of education shall be required to receive religious instruction or to take part in or attend any religious ceremony or observance if such instruction ceremony or observance relates to a religion other than his own, or religion not approved by his parent or guardian." "The abductor did not only violate Ese's rights to religion as enshrined in Section 38 of the constitution but also broke the laws contained in the Child Rights Act which Nigeria is a signatory" Falana added. |

Retired cleaner donates her monthly pension to support Buhari’s fight against corruption Posted: 07 Mar 2016 12:37 PM PST A pensioner identified as Mrs. Rose Arabameh Julius, has donated her full monthly pension of N10,000 to support the President Buhari's fight against corruption. Disclosing this in a statement released earlier today March 7th, the Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Mrs. Julius, who retired as a cleaner from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, has also promised to contribute N1,000 every month towards the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). According to Mrs Julius, she said that she was making the contributions because she was convinced that President Muhammadu Buhari is a tested man of integrity who can be trusted to restore the lost glory of Nigeria and drastically curb corruption in the country. While receiving her donation on behalf of President Buhari, Femi Adesina appreciated Mrs. Julius for having faith in the Buhari-led administration. "We have a pact with Nigerians to change things for the better and we are on the right track. President Buhari and his team are working tirelessly to revamp the economy, combat terrorism and curb corruption" he said |

Glamour model, Chloe Saxon says Adam Johnson denied having a child just because he wanted to bed her Posted: 07 Mar 2016 09:12 AM PST Chloe Saxon has revealed that the former Sunderland and England star Adam Johnson denied having a daughter or girlfriend just so he could have sex with her. According to her, this happened weeks before the beginning of his court trial, as he even said his child belonged to his sister. Speaking to The Sun, Chloe said she regretted meeting the footballer as he is a sex addict: "His behaviour was seedy and perverted .He made no mention of having a family and actually lied to cover them up. He pretended they didn't exist, which is sick."Johnson and Chloe had been in a three-month relationship in 2011 before she dumped him over rumours he was seeing Katie Price. But last December he invited her to Sunderland FC's London Christmas party at posh venue Drama in Park Lane, just a few weeks before he was due on trial for sex offences against a girl of 15. She said: "I thought it would be fun to have a night out. But I made it absolutely clear to him that I wanted my own hotel room. There was absolutely no way I was going to sleep with him. "He kept asking me what I was going to wear. He's obsessed with my tattoos, which are on my back and thigh, and was complaining that they wouldn't be on show. "All night Adam was telling the other guys to stay away from me. He was all over me, like he was claiming me as his own. He would even follow me to the toilet. "He was drinking loads, downing tequila from the bottle. I was the only woman there. It seemed like he'd brought me to show me off to his friends."At about 1am, Chloe and Johnson went back to her hotel room. Chloe said: "He was really drunk but I'd only had a couple of glasses of champagne. I just wanted some sleep. Then he got into my bed. I said, 'No, no, no, you need to go to your own room, right now'. "I walked round to the side of the bed to make my point and he put his hand up my dress and grabbed my thigh. I was shocked but managed to pull away.He said, 'I just want to see your tattoos', but I was very firm and told him to get out. He tried to claim he couldn't walk, so I escorted him out and down the corridor. "When we reached his door, he grabbed my head and pulled it toward his to try and kiss me. Our lips touched but I pushed him away and said, 'No Adam', then walked quickly back to my room and shut the door. "He texted me several times begging me to come back to his room, and telling me I had to stay another night, but I just ignored him." The next morning Chloe bumped into Johnson and his team-mates in the lobby. "He was making loads of comments about my boobs, telling me to tell everyone what size they were.I also overheard him make a crude remark to one of his friends behind my back, along the lines of, Look at the t*ts on that'.I felt very uncomfortable. I got away from there as quickly as I could and got the next train back to Sheffield. "He was relentless. It was really bad. If I was younger or didn't know how to look after myself it would have been very frightening. I was in London for less than 24 hours, and in that time he repeatedly tried to come on to me and made inappropriate comments. Later when the court case hit the headlines that was when she realized , the baby was Adam Johnson's.I couldn't believe my eyes. I immediately noticed how much that baby looked like him. It was definitely his. "It's disgraceful. He acted like he was single. If I had known he had a girlfriend, let alone a baby, I would never have gone to the party with him.I feel terrible for his girlfriend. He should have been at home with her and his daughter, trying to do right by them, rather than partying and chatting up other women. He doesn't care, he's got no conscience. He thinks he's invincible. He just wanted to drink and shag. It makes me feel used. I wish I'd never met him. "He was incredibly arrogant, especially considering what he had done to this poor girl. He knew what he'd done, and what was going to happen. If I were him I'd be hiding, not going out in London. It's like he didn't think his actions would have any consequences. What he was doing to that young girl was terrible. She must have been terrified. And when you look at her texts to him, you can see she is a kid. "He wanted to have complete control over her. There isn't a platonic bone in his body. He is sex obsessed. When we were dating he always wanted to have sex, constantly talked about it, texted me about it. "He's a scumbag. I feel like I was fooled by him. He should be sent to prison for a long time. They need to make an example of him. "He had the world at his feet ,successful career, gorgeous girlfriend, baby daughter , but now he deserves to lose everything." Adam Johnson is set to be sent to jail for sex crimes against an underage. |

No more witches in Ile-Ife- Ooni of Ife says Posted: 07 Mar 2016 08:29 AM PST Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II says there are no more witches in Ile-Ife. The Ooni said this while receiving members of an ile-ife socio-cultural group known as Ife Klub 1 in his palace yesterday March 6th. He said sons and daughters of Ile-Ife who have hitherto been scared of investing in their hometown over fear of witches and wizards destroying their investments, should not entertain such fears again as there are no more witches in the town: "This Klub worked with my last two predecessors and is now working with me, so by the grace of God it will never disintegrate. I must stress to you all that the wellbeing of Ile-ife is paramount to me because we are like the proverbial white chicken who doesn't appreciate its value. Whereas, it is in its home that the chicken is not highly regarded, it is highly valued abroad. God himself resides in Ile-Ife and that is the truth. There are many Ife sons and daughters who the land has blessed but they abandon their roots. They say there are witches in Ile-Ife that kill children, or that if they establish businesses at home, witches won't allow them to prosper. There are no witches here that will disturb anybody anymore. They now want to have money and send their children to school too."The monarch appealed to his people to contribute towards the development of the kingdom, saying he is putting in his best to ensure that Ile-Ife becomes a leading tourist destination. "Some are making money in Ife, yet they don't contribute anything to its development, rather they take their monies to Ibadan, Ilesha, Lagos, London and America. The Almighty has restored Ile-Ife's glory and we must not let it go dim. So many people of Ife origin have refused to come back home and this is why we are making concerted efforts to put many things in place to attract them"he said |

JLo reportedly turns down Casper Smart's marriage proposal Posted: 07 Mar 2016 08:25 AM PST According reports, the singer, actress and mother of two, 46, brutally turned down boy-toy Casper Smart's Valentines Day marriage proposal.... From The National Enquirer "He set up a whole Valentine's Day romantic approach. He told friends he 'had a huge surprise for her and was going to show her what a real man does for a woman he loves.'" The ill-fated charm offensive kicked off with four dozen red roses accompanied by "a love note professing his respect, love and adoration for her," the source said. Casper, 28, then texted Jennifer, 46, a cartoon picture of an engagement ring and followed up with a call that J.Lo didn't answer — before she called him back to thank him for the flowers, at which point he asked for her hand in marriage! But Jen, who once dumped Casper after he allegedly cheated with two transsexuals, "shot him right down." "Jen never had any intention of marrying Casper," said the astonished buddy. "If there's another marriage for her, it will be a smart one!" |

Jonathan wins African leadership Person of the Year award Posted: 07 Mar 2016 07:57 AM PST Former President Goodluck Jonathan has won the African Leadership Magazine Person of the Year, 2015. Jonathan defeated APC National chairman, Bola Tinubu, founder of ECONET wireless Strive Masiyiwa, former UBA Chairman Tony Elumulelu, President, African Development Bank Akinwumi Adesina and Koffi Anan, former UN secretary general to win the award. Jonathan's victory was disclosed in a letter sent to him by former, Pro Tempore president of the Liberian senate and chairman of the 2015 African Leadership Person of the Year selection committee, Cletus Wortoson. The letter in part reads : "There is no one best suited at the moment than your excellency, to advise the continent's leaders on the merits of good governance and enduring democracy". Your popular mantra of 'one man one vote' and 'my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian,' is a message that must be preached loud and clear on the continent, hence our endorsement. It is with great pleasure that I bring you the news of your selection as the African Leadership Magazine Person of the Year, 2015. Chief among the many factors we considered was your efforts towards promoting good governance in Africa through the promotion of free and fair elections across the continent. Your recent assignment to Tanzania received accolades and international acclaim, because you discharged the responsibility most creditably. We resolved that there is no one best suited at the moment than Your Excellency, to advise the continent's leaders on the merits of good governance and enduring democracy. The board is fully persuaded that you have served your country, Nigeria, meritoriously, conducted a free and fair election, in which you lost and yet conceded defeat, a development seeing by many in the continent as historical. Your popular mantra of 'one man one vote' and 'my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian,' is a message that must be preached loud and clear on the continent, hence our endorsement." |

Dulux Names ‘Monarch Gold as 2016 Colour of the Year Posted: 07 Mar 2016 07:44 AM PST Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc, a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria Plc. (UACN), manufacturers of Dulux premium brand of paints and the technological licensee of AkzoNobel, world's largest coatings company has named 'Monarch Gold' as the Dulux 2016 Colour of the Year. This is in line with the AkzoNobel global tradition and Dulux brand leadership positioning in Colour mastery. According to DuluxColour Experts, the 2016 DuluxColour of the Year- 'Monarch Gold' is chosen out of a broad palette of yellows that best represents the golden influence of this year's colour trends. Monarch Gold captures a friendly palette but with a dark mysterious side that adds to its beauty. Speaking during a special briefing session with professionalstakeholder bodies including; Interior Design Association of Nigeria (IDAN), Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB),Nigerian Institute of Architects, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) and Dulux Decorators Club, the Managing Director, Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc, Mrs. Omolara Elemide welcomed the esteemed stakeholders present and highlighted the company's responsibility of communicating the annual global colour trend to Nigerians which has over the years been tagged the 'DuluxColour of the Year'. "For the past 11 years, Chemical and Allied Products Plc. (CAP Plc.), a subsidiary of UACN Plc. and also the technological licensee of AkzoNobel, the world's largest paint producer has been sensitizing Nigerians about the annual global trends, overriding mood and colour that embodies this overriding mood" she saidIn his presentation on the 2016 DuluxColour of the Year, the Marketing Manager, CAP Plc. Mr. Dominic Oladeji explained that this year's DuluxColour of the Year 'Monarch Gold' was derived from the overriding theme - 'Looking Both Ways' which attempts to strike a balance between two opposing worlds such as 'Dark and Light', 'Heritage and Future', 'Words and Pictures', and 'The Grid and Letting Go'. "The 2016 Dulux Colour of the Year is an exciting Colour, it radiates desire for luxury, it is very instructive especially at the moment of seemingly economic downturn, the Colour will inspire hope and positivity that at the end of the darkest part of the night comes light'' he said.He disclosed that the Dulux Colour of the Year is chosen based on a constant monitoring of emerging social, economic and design trends happening around the world where a panel of independent design experts from different fields of architecture, design and fashion all come together to determine key Colour trends which would fit the pattern each year. "Every year AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center brings together a group of international experts and trend watchers from across the globe and from various discipline of design –architecture, textiles, product designs, graphics and research to discuss what they think will be the major global trends in the coming year. These trends are the basis on which the Colour of the year is nominated" he added. It would be recalled that 'Copper Orange' was named as the 2015 Dulux Colour of the Year. More photos.. Posted: 07 Mar 2016 07:22 AM PST A 64-year-old Ghanaian woman was convicted for attempting to smuggle drugs into the US and sentenced to twenty seven months in prison by a New York City court. According to the New York Daily News, Rose Amanor was arrested at Kennedy Airport after disembarking on a flight from Amsterdam last year. The search revealed she was travelling with three kilograms of heroin stuffed inside a haul of dry fish. She claimed her son duped her into carrying the bag into the city. Her lawyers begged for mercy citing her advanced age and poor health, requesting a short sentence so she could return to Africa. But Federal Judge Eric Vitaliano was not having it, saying she had told 'incessant number of fishy stories' "I find it totally incredible that Mrs. Amanor didn't know what it was that she was doing, Judge Vitaliano said. "It certainly was a disrespect for the law, sitting in this courtroom and spinning this incredible tale under oath." The judge pointed out that if Mrs Amour had not been intercepted, the drugs would have wreaked havoc on young people. In court, Amanor, who could almost certainly speak English, said she couldn't, and requested a Twi translator. This was despite, as the Daily News put it: 'that English is the national language of Ghana, and when she was arrested she was carrying two Bibles, a dietary nutrition plan, and other documents written in English, and had received numerous emails from her son written in English.' Amanor begged the judge through the interpreter saying: "I am asking you to have mercy on me so I can go home to my family and enjoy whatever time I have left with my family |
