As he fell down, one of them shot him in the head with a pistol from close range. He died on the spot,"The master's student of the state-run Jagannath University's Law Department, who was critical of radical Islamists was killed by suspected Islamist militants in Old Dhaka's Sutrapur area. He was attacked by three assailants while walking to his home in Gendaria with another youth after completing classes at the university, near Bahadur Shah Park. While murdering Samad, the killers shouted Allahu Akbar (God is Greatest), witnesses said. The youth accompanying the victim has been missing since the incident, a police official said. Nazim, who hailed from Sylhet, was the information and research secretary of Sylhet district unit of Bangabandhu Jatiya Jubo Parishad. He was also an activist of Gonojagoron Moncho's Sylhet wing. His friends said Nazim used to campaign for secularism on Facebook and was critical of radical Islamists. A day before the murder, he expressed concerns over the country's law and order in a Facebook post. The police cordoned off the crime scene. They recovered a bullet shell from the spot. Nurul Amin, Assistant Commissioner of Sutrapur division, was quoted as saying that the police went to the spot and found the body in a pool of blood. Nurul said it was clear that the assailants kept an eye on Nazim's activities for long. University Proctor Nur Mohammad said Nazim got admitted to the university two months ago. "We have informed his family about the murder and are taking detailed information about him," he said. |

| Abandoned Cat refuses to leave spot where it was dumped by owners a year ago Posted: 07 Apr 2016 11:44 AM PDT  The cat is believed to have been left there when its owners moved out of their nearby apartment, leaving it behind. It was pictured by Ostap Zadunayskiy who put the picture on Russia's version of Facebook, VKontakte. He asked people what the cat's story was, and he was surprised when locals said the cat hasn't left that particular spot for a year since it was dumped by it's owners. He was told that the cat was seen running after the owners as they drove off. When they got too far, the cat sat in the spot where it's been returning to every day. Apparently waiting for it's owners to return But locals have been feeding the cat ever since.  Mr Zadunayskiy said: "This is a great example of human meanness and true animal loyalty. Despite going viral however, many people were critical, saying they did not believe the story and that the cat probably just stayed there as it was getting fed every day.'' Source: MetroUK |

Immediately I drove into the street close to the station, one Corporal Alonge stopped me, demanded for my vehicle particulars. I gave them to him, then he demanded for my driver's license, which I also gave him. When he discovered I did not commit any offence, he asked for my tinted glass permit which I gave him. He told me I was using a forged tinted glass permit. I told him I could not have forged a police document as a lawyer. He became furious and said he was going to arrest me. He jumped into my vehicle and insisted I must give him N1,000 to bail myself. I said I was not going to give him any money since I have not committed any offence. He pounced on me and cocked his gun threatening to shoot me if I make a move. Another policewoman who sighted us came and dragged the gun from him. The policeman after being disarmed descended on me and gave me the beating of my life. He pushed me into the cell and another policeman came inside the cell, locked up the cell and beat me for 30 minutes. I see this as intimidation of the highest order, not because I am a lawyer, but because I am an average Nigerian. I was humiliated like a common criminal. This is oppression. One of my eyes is partially blind. I have been vomiting blood since yesterday. It was the intervention of a good policeman in the station who warned them not to kill me. I would have been dead by now," he said. |

Offenders may be fined up to €3,750 (about $4,300) and required to attend classes about the conditions of sex workers. The law also establishes measures to help prostitutes find new work, and makes it easier for foreign sex workers to acquire temporary residency permits. France's Socialist government welcomed the new legislation. The bill's architect Maud Olivier told AFP: "This law is essential to ending the idea that it is normal to buy someone's body." "The goal is to diminish [prostitution], protect prostitutes who want to quit, and change mentalities. We will succeed in changing the mentality, but new efforts are needed to raise awareness, to train police officers and magistrates."But some of France's nearly 30,000 prostitutes did not share Olivier's conviction.
