Police ordered to arrest new Emir of Kano, Sanusi, for 'Fraud' Posted: 11 Jun 2014 01:39 PM PDT   The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir's palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor's lodge. The sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sanusi was to be arrested at his private home on Sunday night after his appointment was announced by the Kano State Governor.It would be recalled that the presidency embarked on several frantic measures to frustrate the former CBN governor's emergence as Emir, including the premature congratulations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to one of the candidates before the choice was announced. Since becoming Emir, Mr. Sanusi has been inside the Kano State governor's lodge, receiving visitors and undertaking traditional rites. The source also told SaharaReporters that some notable northern leaders have already warned President Jonathan to avoid such a reckless action so as to avoid setting fire to the already volatile situation in the city of Kano. It is not known if President Jonathan is favoring back channel dialogue aimed at resolving the mess. Observers point out that he has yet to offer congratulations to the new Emir despite the PDP doing so. |

The circular reads in part; "In commemoration of June 12, 1993 as significant in the actualization of Democracy in Nigeria, it is hereby notified for general information that His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved Thursday, 12th June, 2014 as a work free day."I'm sure Lagos state workers will be happy to hear this. Ujoatumba said the essence of the rally was to spur immediate response from our government to the call of many Nigerians languishing in prison abroad especially in Asian countries but Indonesia in particular and to effect the prison Swap Agreement reached by the Nigeria government. Sir, it has been a long time now we have been looking for rescue from our Nigerian Government. This has become so pressing because of the ordeal we have been forced to go through, which is beyond what the Embassy alone can handle. Most of us have been locked away in the demeaning jails of Indonesian Government, it has thus been tortuous years of topsy-turvydom which has become the nature of our case. We were wrongly accused of breaching various Indonesian laws. This therefore is a pure conjecture based on supposition and innuendos as most of us are decent Nigerian business men doing legal bussines/job in the country. The Indonesian Government has thought otherwise unfortunately and had decided to string us go through difficult travails. Thus, the Foreign affairs Ministry and Embassy has done much in trying to repatriate Nigerian prisoners languishing in China and Asia pacific prisons in particular through the Nigerian government's Federal Transfer Agreement (PTA) signed between Nigeria and some countries like China, Thailand, UK, India etc, but the Nigeria Embassy here in Indonesia have been telling us that because the Indonesia Government dont have there citizen in Nigeria prison that is why it has been difficult for us. Sir, we are sure we have not been forgotten to die in vain as we still miss our dear country and lovely family/friends. We are therefore appealing to decency of your heart to intervene and save us from the murder-bent pursuit of Indonesian prison authorities. We know sir that Nigerian government can do well in extending the treaty with Indonesian government concerning Nigerians in the nation's prisons as it was done in other countries. Sir, we ask that you extend this same pertinent gesture to us as we are languishing away in the Indonesian prisons, because a change in this present dispensation in few months coming will have an adverse effect on our chance of actualizing this goal of bringing us home even when most of us did nothing to be here. Mr President, we also pray fervently, for peace in our dear country back home because weare aware of the security and leadership challenges being faced by your government. | Fresh attacks in Plateau state, 6 dead, 2 churches razed Posted: 11 Jun 2014 05:27 AM PDT  Gunmen launched an attack on residents of Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom LGA of Plateau State in the early hours of this morning June 11th, killing at least 6 people and burning 2 churches. Residents of the communities say five officers of the Police Special Task Force were also killed but this has not been verified. Confirming today's attack, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and state Police spokesperson, Mr. Dominic Esin who spoke with Premium Times said 5 other people were injured in the attack and they have all been hospitalized

| Ekiti State Deputy Governor's daughter loses husband Posted: 11 Jun 2014 03:49 AM PDT   According to family sources, the late Dr Fasawe left for London on Monday May 19th for what was called corrective surgery scheduled for June 2nd. He reportedly started having difficulty in breathing on Thursday May 29th while in London and called a friend to notify him. The friend immediately called for an ambulance but sadly, while on their way to the hospital, he died. Late Dr Fasawe is survived by his wife and two sons. He will be buried tomorrow June 12 2014. May his soul rest in peace. |

The seed sowers and pioneers who created and promoted the new sound that feeds millions today and put our music on the Global map. See the guys after the cut... 1 1) Kennis Music : Nigeria's foremost indigenous record label. Even though they had a structure that promoted basically acts under its umbrella, they generally gave the new school artist an enviable status. Hype masters who were undeniable experts of bestowing a larger than life perception to the new school Nigerian music artist and warming them into the hearts of Nigerians via the widest TV network at the time. This often attracted followership for the artist, increasing their fan base as well as big bucks from the corporate sponsors. Ayo also engineered the most enviable reward scheme for the new school act with an Award ceremony that replicated Hollywood's glitz and glam 4 4) Emma Ugolee: A forerunner with the introduction of music videos as the new tool for marketing the new Nigerian artist. On TV, this presenter, producer was the only alternative to the Kennis music dynasty. As inventor of the first ever all Nigerian music video countdown, his TV show was making more artist than we expected. Renowned for his ear and eyes for talent and personal support for most of Nigeria's biggest music acts today from the early days of their struggle. A force the industry would never forget 5) Dj Jimmy Jatt: An old school Dj with the new school flavor. If Jimmy played your song, it was like getting a seal of industry approval, cause unlike many of his colleagues who were still stuck with music from the west, Jimmy celebrated the new Nigerian music by playing at the biggest platforms in his time. Every leader of the new school has a cherished favor given by Jimmy in the wake of his career. In the words of Tuface "back then na Jimmy Jattna him dey give us instrumental" 6) Paul Play: New school producer extraordinaire. Made that fresh sound for so many of the pioneers as well as himself. Formed one of the first new schoolR and B groups in Nigeria called Oxygen. Paul IK Dairo had big shoes to fill with a musical icon of a father, but like Femi Kuti, he too had found his own path and identity but also carried quite a crowd on his back in the process. 8) Eldee: For an under graduate in his late teens, his vision was legendary. Forming his solo record label (tribe records) and initiating trade with the Alaba trader for the industry are landmarks that changed the business, inspiring a whole lot. Attributable all to a man aptly called the Don. Tribe records also went on to create a long chain of successful careers. 9) Nelson Brown : Another producer of the new Nigerian sound. The legendary Daddy Showkey's "Diana" and Plantation boy's "body and soul" albums are one of the many industry redefining sounds that came out of the stable of Mr Brown's dove records that operated from a small kiosk in Festac. Nelson's versatility was amazing as he made hip hop hits for Def O clan, Love songs for P.boiz and yet sold that Ajegunle new school to Nigeria. 10) Obi Asika : Heavy weight that enjoyed throwing his weight behind the new Nigerian sound.
