| FIFA bans Luis Suarez for four months, fined $112,000 Posted: 26 Jun 2014 09:13 AM PDT   FIFA's disciplinary committee released a statement on their website stating this. See it below... "The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player). · The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay's next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team's subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC. Continue...· The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC. · A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2). · The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000 ($112,000). The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today. | Somewhere Down The Line hits cinema June 29 Posted: 26 Jun 2014 06:58 AM PDT   The movie which is produced by fast rising actress, winner of the 2011 Next Movie Star, Tamara Eteimo, is coming under the stables of Shola Fajobi's Origin 8 Formats Limited. Since announcing his intentions to delve into film production and distribution early this year, 'Somewhere Down the line', is his first production. Continue.. His distribution company, E-Force is also fully prepared to undertake the seemingly arduous task of distributing the thriller to all nooks and crannies of Nigeria. According to Shola, who is fondly called Solar, "I've not been doing much with Nollywood directly in the past but because of the interest most of my clients are beginning to show in Nollywood, I decided I would throw my business acumen, which obviously is not in doubt, into those two areas. This year, I have said I would produce 50movies. And so far so good, I have produced 12movies and certainly before the end of the year, I would have produced all 50movies. Somewhere Down the Line is actually one of our first film production, after this, at least we shall be releasing 4movies every month under my stable. Definitely not all the movies will go to the cinema, not all will be premiered. Some will go to the cinema and some will go straight into DVD". Unlike the regular movie premiere, Shola Fajobi in a bid to up the ante got one of the leading consumer product company, Procter & Gamble, to sponsors the movie and the premiere which promises to be star studded. Tamara, the lead character in Wale Adenuga's Superstory- Itohan, on her own part, combines an amazing cast of talented Nollywood actors that excites crowd as well as fresh faces, most of who were housemates with her at the Next Movie Star. Bukky Wright, Yemi Blaq, Rachel Oniga and Mary Lazarus, Yinka Ayelokun, Adetomiwa Kukoyi, Yinka Salau, kingsley Ogboso and others. Speaking on her cinema debut, this will be her first production and she's optimistic it will be appealing to movie buffs and pundits alike. "In as much as it's my first, I tried my best to make it a success. A movie has to be appealing to the audience and once it gets a good reception, believe me; it will stay long at the cinema. I'm not saying the movie is perfect but it is close to perfect. Nobody will watch Somewhere down the lineand say it's a stupid film. They will connect to it one way or the other". The movie tells the story of a couple of a couple, Tolu and Goke who, eight years into their marriage, remain childless. They choose the path of IVF but it leads them down an emotional destination, causing more sorrow than joy. The couple agrees on surrogacy but it turns out that Grace, the surrogate becomes emotionally attached, 'Somewhere Down the Line' and does not want to part with the foetus in her womb. For the red carpet of Somewhere Down the Line, Excite On TV will lead other TV stations to cover the event. Afterwards, a week from when it makes it cinematic debut, there will be campus screening across five selected Nigerian campuses. They include University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, Niger Delta University, University of Port-Harcourt and University of Ibadan. According to the producer, the DVD copy will be made available to students at the sum of N500. The DVD which will be sold to them becomes their ticket to get access into the various halls for the screening. |

| Lagos explosion caused by fuel-laden tanker, not bomb - Police Posted: 26 Jun 2014 05:07 AM PDT  Force Public Relations officer, Ngozi Braide explains In a contradictory statement, Ibrahim Farinloye, the Spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA South-West said the cause of the fire was as a result of a gas cylinder explosion. | Chris Brown rejects plea deal in D.C case, headed for trial Posted: 26 Jun 2014 02:08 AM PDT   TMZ reports that Chris was close to copping a plea but the deal fell apart because the prosecutor and Chris' lawyer couldn't agree on a statement of fact about the events leading to the alleged assault. Chris has always denied assaulting a fan in 2013 outside a hotel in D.C. If he'd pled guilty, he would not have to serve any additional time in jail. Now that he's going to trial, jail time is on the line again. His bodyguard has already been convicted of the assault. A trial date has been set for September. |

Posted: 26 Jun 2014 02:03 AM PDT  I am in my final year in the university and am staying with my aunt (my mum's younger sister) whose husband is a Pastor of his own church with 18 members. I am from a Conservative Baptist family and I'm not cool with his Pentecostal way of doing things. My question is this; do I have to attend his church? If no how do I tell them without offending them? |

| Ritualists’ den owned by a pastor uncovered in Lagos, 8 kidnapped victims rescued Posted: 26 Jun 2014 12:49 AM PDT  According to Vanguard, the den was discovered after a failed attempt by a woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, a member of Pastor Nwankwo's church, to kidnap her neighbor's 7 year old son, Emeka Emmanuel to the den for rituals. Sources in the area said around 6.30 am yesterday, Mrs Chukwu lured the little boy who was on his way to fetch water from a well down the road and took him to her house where she locked him in the toilet. To keep her neighbors from hearing the little boy's screams for help, Chukwu then instructed her own children to begin a prayer session which they did, shouting on top of their voices. Continue... Trouble however started when the boy's mother who stays four buildings from Mrs Chukwu raised alarm after she could not find her son. A search for the young boy began which Mrs Chukwu also partook in. Minutes into the search, Mrs Chukwu was said to have excused herself, went into her house and then came out with a box on her head, saying she was travelling. Suspecting foul play, some of the area boys instructed her to put down the suitcase which was opened and the unconscious body of the 7 year old boy was discovered. A resident of the area, Oyetoye Gbemi who spoke with Vanguard said the area boys descended on her and she confessed it was her pastor who sent her "She told us she was travelling to the village. But one of the area boys who was among the search party, ordered his colleagues to search the box. Immediately she heard that, she flung the box away and took to her heels. We all suspected something was amiss. When the box was opened, Emmanuel was found inside, half dead. The area boys descended on her and stripped her naked. On interrogation, she said her pastor, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, asked her to bring the boy. The area boys followed her to 319, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, where the church is situated, where they saw her pastor waiting for her. But on sighting the crowd, he took to his heels. But for the arrival of Policemen from Owutu division, the woman would have been lynched. The angry mob also attempted to set the church ablaze but were also prevented by the policemen. They, however, succeeded in torching some parts of the property." he saidIn the process of chasing the fleeing Pastor and burning some part of the church building, area boys forced open a door to a building at 7, Oshodi Street, which was directly at the back of the church building and owned by Pastor Ernest. To everyone's amazement, men and women, eight in number, chained and looking frail were found in the building. The captives upon interrogation said they were kidnapped from various places like Ogun, Anambra, Bayelsa and Oyo states. One of the captives, a 50 year old woman said she was kidnapped while returning from a night vigil. One of the rescued victim, 52 year old man pictured above without a shirt said he was a commercial bus driver and was kidnapped two years ago. Residents in the area said the building owned by the pastor had always been under suspicion as no one ever saw anyone coming out or going in during the day. They said most of the activities carried out in the building is usually done at night. |

| New Telegraph’s Managing Editor dies in Emab Plaza bomb blast Posted: 25 Jun 2014 11:16 PM PDT  Bisalla, 46, a native of Gindiri in Mangul LGA of Plateau State, had left the New Telegraph office in Abuja around 3.30pm to Emab Plaza to go and repair his phone. The bomb went off 30 minutes later. His corpse was deposited at the Maitama General Hospital, where he and others killed in the blast were taken to. His younger brother, Mohammed, has confirmed his death. Bisalla was a former Deputy Editor with the Daily Trust Newspaper in Abuja and joined the New Telegraph newspaper late last year. He was married with children. May his soul rest in peace...Amen. |
