| Remi Tinubu faces Senate panel over comments made in an interview Posted: 27 Jun 2014 12:40 PM PDT  Senator Tinubu, who represents Lagos Central Senatorial District, in an interview she granted to celebrate her 3rd year in the Senate, described the current leadership of the Senate as always working in favor of the PDP led arm of Government and also failing to address some pressing National issues. Aggrieved by her remarks, Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba presented it before the house at yesterday June 26th plenary session, saying it was unkind of her to have said such a thing. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the house referred the matter to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions chaired by Senator Ayo Akinyelure, a Labour Party member representing Ondo Central Ekweremadu said, "This matter is referred to the committee so that they can have Senator Tinubu present her own side of the story and if possible, invite the newspapers which published the stories" He mandated the committee to come up with its finding within two week. |

| World Cup 2014: Super Eagles boycott training over bonus money Posted: 27 Jun 2014 07:17 AM PDT  Super Eagles players reportedly missed a scheduled training session yesterday after a disagreement with officials of the National Football Federation over bonus money. BBC Sports reports that the players believe they are each $15,000 (£8,800) short of what they were expecting for reaching the last 16 in Brazil. The players refused to train in Campinas on Thursday and NFF officials later confirmed the session had been cancelled. Continue... From BBC BBC Sport has learned the problem lies in the interpretation of the bonus structure, with the players believing they will only receive $10,000 for their win 1-0 over Bosnia-Hercegovina and $5,000 for the 0-0 draw with Iran. The players' understanding was they would receive a $30,000 payment for qualifying from the group. However, it is believed the Nigerian Football Federation's offer to the players includes the agreed win and draw bonuses plus 30% of the prize money due from Fifa for reaching the knockout stage. This is understood to rise to 40% of the prize money from Fifa if Nigeria were to win their round of 16 match, 50% for a quarter-final victory, 60% for a win in the semi-final stage and 70% for lifting the trophy. While all parties work to find a resolution to the misunderstanding, coach Stephen Keshi has insisted it will not affect the team's performance. And it has been confirmed to the BBC that the players will travel to Brasilia on Friday as scheduled and will train in the evening and over the weekend. |

| Photo: Mass burial for 100 victims of Kaduna attack Posted: 27 Jun 2014 05:50 AM PDT  According to the Chairman of the Sanga LGA, Mr Emmanuel Adamu, they had to resort to a mass burial because the bodies of the victims were beginning to decompose due to the poor facilities at the UNIJOS Morgue. Continue...*warning, graphic pic after the cut...  "We had no choice, because their corpses were decomposing as a result of poor facilities at the hospitals. However, not all the dead were given mass burial. Some families were able to identify their loved ones, so they were allowed to take the bodies away. I cannot give the number of bodies taken away by families. All those that are injured will be treated by Sanga Local Government free of charge. Normalcy has returned with the beefing up of security in the area. I want to appeal to all the people of Sanga to please forgive and leave vengeance to Almighty God. I beg everyone to remain law abiding, but vigilant." he said On Wednesday June 25th, the chairman of the Local Government declared a 24hr curfew in the area. |

Alysia received a standing ovation after completing the race in 2 minutes, 32.13 seconds, 35 seconds slower than her personal best of 1:57.34, which she smashed back in 2010 in a race in Monaco. "I've been running throughout my pregnancy and I felt really, really good during the whole process.' Alysia said after the race... | Ekiti state election: APC says they are going to court Posted: 27 Jun 2014 02:16 AM PDT  The APC has released a statement saying they are going to court to challenge the process of the recently concluded governorship election in Ekiti State, for what it termed the militarization of Ekiti during the campaign and election period. APC says the election was neither free nor fair. (Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose pictured above after the election) Rising from its National Working Committee meeting, the APC in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said some of their members were harassed by military men before and during the election and this in no small measure affected the performance of their Party during the elections.
