LG’s Inverter Linear compressor refrigerators earn VDE recognition

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 11:39 AM PDT

Ever since the global recession struck in 2009, the cost of living has skyrocketed. Accordingly, the average modern family spends a lot more time thinking about how to lower utility bills and generally bring down their day-to-day spending. An audit of energy usage in the home is always a great place to start, especially given the soaring price of electricity. Household appliances account for approximately 35% of all power consumed (in the home) – a fact which is leading many to consider purchasing new, energy efficient refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. Continue...

LG Electronics (LG) has announced that its refrigerators featuring the Inverter Linear Compressor have been recognized for their energy saving capabilities and quiet performance. The company's refrigerators achieved excellent results in tests carried out by the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE), one of Europe's largest and most respected scientific and technical associations. Employing industry-first technology, the Inverter Linear Compressor enables LG's fridges to work efficiently, effectively and silently.

"We are extremely proud to have the exceptional qualities of our Inverter Linear Compressor fridges confirmed by an organization as prestigious as VDE," said Mr. Hyunwoo Jung, General Manager, Home Appliances Division, LG Electronics West Africa operations. "Since 2001, our Linear Compressor models have been delivering convenience, quiet and energy savings to consumers worldwide. LG will continue to work hard to develop the next generation of outstanding home appliances."

In tests carried out by VDE, LG refrigerators incorporating the Inverter Linear Compressor proved to be approximately 50 percent more energy efficient than those equipped with conventional reciprocal compressors. Helping to lower monthly household electricity bills, this significant reduction in energy consumption also affirms LG's strong commitment to sustainability. VDE also noted that LG'S refrigerators with Inverter Linear Compressors are approximately 25 percent quieter compared to those fitted with reciprocal compressors, it produces a sound level similar to that of a hushed study room, thanks to its unique linear movement.

Just like high electricity bills, a noisy home can also be a significant source of stress. As most people are now aware, constant exposure to low frequency noise can have a negative impact on the health; causing anxiety, irritation and affecting sleep and concentration. The humming, whirring and clicking generated by conventional home appliances make it hard to truly relax and unwind. Operating 24 hours, 7 days a week, the refrigerator is typically one of the chief disturbers-of-the-peace, not to mention a major user of electricity. With all of this in mind, consumer-focused company LG Electronics (LG) set about designing a refrigerator technology that's as quiet as it is energy efficient.

On the whole, appliances that use less energy are very attractive to the growing number of consumers concerned with their impact on the environment

LG has been the lead in terms of Energy Saving, with the introduction of another type of Compressor known as Inverter Compressor. This type of Compressor provides cool temperature inside the refrigerator based on the cooling requirement of the refrigerator; it is optimal for top freezers as they guarantee energy savings of up to 36% when compared with non-inverter compressors. Regarding noise level, it comes with 37.8Db less noise; it can be adjusted to each level of temperature so that noise can be controlled effectively - quiet as in the study room.  LG proudly guaranteed its 10-Year durability for LG Inverter Compressor.

Thanks to the unique design of the Inverter Linear Compressor, consumers can enjoy the benefits of less noise and lower electricity usage. Employing a piston drive, instead of a conventional reciprocal drive, LG's superior compressor generates less internal friction and offers more precise cooling control. Fewer friction points mean welcome reductions in energy consumption and sound levels. The highly reliable LG Inverter Linear Compressor comes with a 10-year warranty.

Cultists hack driver, dump body on Lagos highway

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 03:55 AM PDT

The battered body of a man was discovered on Olopo Meji, Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos on Saturday June 14th. The body had been crushed many times by vehicles on the highway. Punch reports that the body was later identified as that of 35year old Yemi, aka Topia, a resident of the area.

A resident of the area, Michael Oladipupo, told Punch that the dead man was the son of a landlord on Mabawonku Street. Oladipupo said Yemi was not killed by a hit-and-run vehicle as the situation suggested, but his body was dumped on the highway to serve as an alibi for his killers. Continue...

"I was called this morning (Saturday) around 9am and told that there was a corpse on the road. I came here and saw his body on the expressway. But as we traced its movement, we discovered that he was dragged to the expressway from a spot close to the Oworonshoki Bridge.
"After killing him, they dumped him on the road so that the scene would look like an accident. Vehicles and heavy-duty trucks passing by have torn his body into pieces so that people will not be able to identify him." Oladipupo said
He said he could not tell whether some parts of his body were taken away for ritual purposes or not.

Investigations by Punch Metro revealed that Yemi was murdered by a gang suspected to be members of the Black Axe Confraternity, popularly called Aiye.

It was learnt from sources who craved anonymity that the victim, who was a driver, was lured out of his room in the night and bundled into an iron cart, on which he was wheeled to the point of the murder.
"It was the Aiye members that killed him. Yemi is not a cultist, but he had friends who were Eiye members. Because there was a fight between the two cult groups, Yemi was mistaken for a member and targeted.
"They first inflicted machete wounds on him, but when it appeared he was not completely dead, they dragged him to the expressway for oncoming vehicles to finish what they started." A source said
Some relatives of the deceased were seen sobbing near the site of the incident, while others were overheard breaking the sad news to other family members on the telephone.

A relative was overheard by our correspondent in the telephone conversation, saying Yemi had had a misunderstanding with a man who threatened to kill him.

She said, "They have killed him….He called me few days ago on the telephone that somebody came to his house with his boys and threatened to kill him if he does not pay the money he owed him."
When our correspondent approached her for comment, she said, "He was sleeping in his room when they cunningly drew him out."

Mo gbomoya

Article not written by me. Y'all know the drill. Enjoy...
This Easter was a very special one for me, my husband and the kids. My husband just got a double promotion at work, a perfect reason to celebrate. We decided to organize an Easter party for close friends at our place, not more than 30 people I estimated.
How wrong I was. As the party started, friends and family began trooping in and suddenly I realized that Nigerians don't hear party and pass it by. "Cynthia, so you're having an Easter party? Am coming o! What time is it starting?" That was Amina! "When last did I even see that woman and how did she hear about the party? She's not even a Christian!" Here was I making preparations for just 30 people, and already, there were guests way over that number seated, and more still on the way. "Nigerians and Mo gbomoyasha!"  I grumbled after dropping Amina's call.
I was fast running out of food so I called the caterer to make more and bring within the next 2 hours, while I dashed to the ATM to get more cash however the 5 I tried were all out of service and banks won't be opened on Easter Sunday, so I decided to manage the little money I had with me to buy a few things at a nearby shop. "The caterer would have to wait to collect her money on Tuesday after the Easter break" I decided.
I picked all I needed from the store, and got to the cash point to pay only to be left feeling embarrassed when the lady said all I took cost me 13,500 Naira, and I had just 11,000 Naira on me. I told her I would return some goods but she saved my blushes by telling me I could pay the balance of 2,500 with the use of their POS machine and my bank card. I agreed and before I slotted my card into it asked her to take the full money instead so I can still have cash on me. I typed in my pin, and smiled as I got the bank debit alert SMS on my phone before she even handed me back my card. I was like "WOW! That saved me a lot of stress! How did you get a POS? I need one for my business too" I asked. "Oh it's madam o! She got it from her bank, she said it was freesef" the attendant replied. "Wow! It's free?" I blurted, clearly surprised by the information I just got. "Yes o! And it's very easy to use! Just like using an ATM"
"Just like using an ATM…" those words were still ringing in my head when the caterer arrived with the extra food and asked me to pay using her POS. She said she brought it along because she guessed I would be out of money on a Sunday.

So here's what happened. Special Assistant to the president on New Media Reno Omokri tweeted two tweets mocking the APC for selecting a 52 year old as their National Youth Leader but he did it using sarcasm so it wasn't so obvious. Then the man himself, Ibrahim Jallo, could not see that he was being mocked and favorited the tweets..Lol. But a youth leader at 52? See the tweets after the cut...

Wall St Journal lists Nigeria as #1 destination for foreign investors

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 02:16 AM PDT

Nigeria, Argentina and Vietnam are the most appealing places for multinationals, this is according to a survey by Wall Street Journal. Find the report below...
Fresh from its coronation as the biggest economy in Africa, Nigeria has scored another first. The troubled West African country has emerged as the frontier-market economy that is attracting the most attention from American and European multinationals.
Nigeria is joined by Argentina and Vietnam as the frontier markets that multinational corporations are most interested in, according to a new index of corporate sentiment.
The Frontier Markets Sentiment Index, created exclusively for the Wall Street Journal by Washington DC-based advisory firm Frontier Strategy Group, tracks the level of interest shown by major European and American multinational companies in countries across the frontier markets world.

The index is a based on information collected from FSG's roughly 200 multinational clients, which include companies such as Coca-Cola KO -0.12%, General Electric GE +0.30%, Novartis NOVN.VX -0.06%, Dell and Akzo Nobel AKZOY -0.97%. Matt Lasov, FSG's global head of advisory and analytics, explains how the index works: "We collect data about which countries the companies are watching for potential future investment. Over time, that gives us a clear picture of their market priorities—which countries are they including in their future plans and which they are dropping."

The research provides two key insights: the current state of sentiment toward countries in the frontier markets, and the change in sentiment over time. Corporate sentiment is calculated as the percentage of companies that include a particular country on their watch-list. If 50 of the 200 companies are keeping an eye on a particular country, the sentiment index score would be 25%.

The data point to some striking regional differences. Of the 20 countries attracting most interest from multinationals, nine are in sub-Saharan Africa. Few will be surprised to see Kenya and Nigeria among the top tier, but Ethiopia and Tanzania making it onto the list as the 12th- and 13th-most watched countries respectively might cause a few raised eyebrows.

One person who won't be surprised to see growing interest among multinationals for investing in Ethiopia is Alexander Benard, chief operating officer of Schulze Global, a private equity firm. "We are very excited about Ethiopia," Benard says. "We believe it has huge potential."

Kanye West reportedly still taking shots at Jay Z

Posted: 15 Jun 2014 04:20 PM PDT

Since he began dating Kim Kardashian, Kanye has not only lost some of his popularity, he's also lost his best friend and mentor Jay Z...and maybe that's more painful to him than losing fans because he's still lashing out at him.

According to tweets from people who attended the Bonaroo Festival over the weekend where Kanye performed, the multiple award winning rapper stopped his set to deliver a ten minute rant about the importance of hard work, believing in yourself, and well, just being Kanye West. And then he took a shot at his former bff, reportedly telling his fans "Let's be clear. Ain't no b*tch gonna pull that Solange ish on me."

Take note Khloe, you're the feisty one! :-)
