| Update on Emab Plaza bombing, 21 confirmed dead, 17 injured Posted: 25 Jun 2014 12:22 PM PDT  Security Forces have condoned off the scene of the blast, while the Police Bomb Disposal Squad has commenced post-blast analysis as part of the general investigative process, according to a statement. The attack is believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber though there are other conflicting reports from some eye-witnesses that a man on a bike threw the explosive and sped off. Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, we all can kinda guess. See more photos after the cut..     |

| Bomb blast hits Adamawa market Posted: 25 Jun 2014 08:01 AM PDT  A bomb explosion has been reported at Kasuwan Kuturu market in Mubi Adamawa state. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa said the bomb was targeted at a police patrol team but there were no casualties from the explosion. This explosion comes three weeks after a similar bomb explosion rocked a football viewing center in Mubi Adamawa killing 14 people. Details later… |

FIFA disciplinary committee said this morning that it had opened proceedings against him and has asked his team to present evidence later today. "Any type of proof may be produced, including reports from referees, declarations from the parties and witnesses, material evidence, audio or video recordings'. the committee said. A decision on whether he is guilty of biting or not will be published before Saturday when Uruguay will play Colombia. | Doctors call for blood donation for Monday's Kano blast victims Posted: 25 Jun 2014 06:28 AM PDT  Some of the victims who are currently receiving treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital are in dire need of blood, doctors say. Yesterday students of the Kano School of Hygiene were seen at the hospital coming to donate blood for their colleagues. Pictured above is the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi II when he paid a visit to the victims at the hospital yesterday. Eight people died from the blast while 12 others suffered serious injuries. |
| Man detained in mental institute in Kano for saying there is no God Posted: 25 Jun 2014 06:13 AM PDT  Mubarak Bala has been held up at a mental institute in Kano state since June 13th despite being given a clean bill of health because he declared he does not believe in God. According to the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) Bala is being held against his will and forcibly medicated at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he has been kept since June 13. The chemical engineering graduate is allegedly being held on the grounds of a "personality change" because he declared himself an atheist despite being raised in a Muslim family in Kano, which is a mainly Muslim state. The organisation says that when Mr Bala told his family he did not believe in God, they took him to a doctor and asked if he was mentally ill. Continue...When this doctor found him to be fit and well, the family are then believed to have taken him to a second doctor who claimed he was suffering with a personality disorder. The family allegedly told this doctor he also made delusional claims that he was a "governor" and other "trivial lies". The 29-year-old managed to raise the alarm that he was being held in emails and tweets sent to activists from a smartphone smuggled into the facility and the IHEU said a Lagos-based group has asked a lawyer to take up his case. In one of the emails, he wrote: "And the biggest evidence of my mental illness was large blasphemies and denial of 'history' of Adam, and apostasy, to which the doctor said was a personality change, that everyone needs a God, that even in Japan they have a God. And my brother added that all the atheists I see have had mental illness at some point in their life." The IHEU is "deeply concerned" about Mr Bala's welfare and violations of his human rights. IHEU spokesman Bob Churchill said: "It appears that a warped notion of family honour is the motivation to pressure Mubarak in this appalling manner, to conform to religious views that he simply doesn't hold. This is an abhorrent violation of his freedom of thought and belief. "We are joining with humanists and human rights advocates in Nigeria and the activists who have worked to highlight this case, in calling for an immediate re-evaluation of Mubarak's case by a doctor who is entirely independent of the family, and for his swift release." When asked about it during an interview at the WCGI Summer Jam this week, R.Kelly shut the reporter up when he referred to Jaya as his son. "Well, first off don't start by calling her my son. As far as that's concerned, always believe what you see - with your own eyes that is. That's the best way to go about this business. | NDLEA arrests 11 school children over drug abuse and trafficking Posted: 25 Jun 2014 04:20 AM PDT  Eleven secondary school students and a hotel manager were recently arrested in Kaduna by officials of the Kaduna State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, after being caught in a hotel taking Psychotropic substances. NDLEA Kaduna State Commander, Mohammed Jibrin made this revelation at The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme which held in Kaduna yesterday, June 24th. Mr Jibrin said the students comprising of seven girls and four boys were arrested following a tip off, adding that eight of the students arrested were still in Junior Secondary school. He said parents of the students arrested have been invited for questioning and counseling while the hotel manager is still under investigation. |

| ...and Luiz Suarez bites another football player (photos) Posted: 24 Jun 2014 03:30 PM PDT  Fast forward 10 months later and he's done it again. During the Italy-Uruguay match that took place this evening June 24th, Suarez appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder (pictures above). Continue...  Suarez is seen chasing Giorgio for the ball and then suddenly both men fall to the ground, with Suarez clutching his teeth as if in pain while Chiellini pulls his shirt down to show the referee the bite marks on his shoulder. Unfortunately the referee didn't see the attack so didn't penalize Suarez but thankfully cameras captured it and people expect Suarez to be sanctioned again. This is months after Suarez and his club manager claimed he'd changed his ways.     |
