Cinema audience excited about 2face & Omawumi, in ‘Make a Move Posted: 22 Jun 2014 06:50 AM PDT Cinema audience, music and movie lovers had a taste of what could be described as buy one, get one free as Tuface Idibia, Omawunmi, Beverly Naya and Denrele Edun made strong debut on the bigscreen with inspirational movie, 'Make a Move.' 'Make a Move' which had dance as one of its themes is the debut production of AMBO winner, Ivie Okujaye. 'Make a Move' is the story of two sisters, who had to fight poverty, death of a father and cruelty of a step-father, with the only available tool to them which was dance. Continue... The movie which is presently showing in cinemas across Nigeria, has been described as a breath of fresh air in Nollywood. Aside Tina Mba, Wale Adebayo(Sango) and Majid Michel, almost every other member of the cast are fresh faces in Nollywood, which is a deviation from the norm in present day Nollywood. The movie had first week appearance in the cinemas last week and had received rave positive reviews, aside from Ivie and Adebayo giving what stakeholders call performances of their lives, Beverly Naya treats the audience to scintillating sultry dance-steps that further lends credence to the fact that she is one of the next big thing in the entertainment industry. Speaking on 'Make a Move', Ivie said, "It is not a dance movie but about two sisters that found dance", she also said "the topic of women, children and abuse inspired the movie. I want people to realize that 'Make a Move does not focus on the abuse but on how to escape from the abuse through art, in our case we chose dance as the art. That is what is most important to me because I am fond of dancing, singing, acting, writing and I'm passionate about women and children, taking all that and compounding it into one that is really the foundation and genesis of Make a Move." Below is the video of what Tuface, Majid Michel and other members of cast said about Ivie Okujaye and the movie. |

Photos: SABC boss under probe for taking a 22 year old 'wife as gift’ Posted: 22 Jun 2014 04:57 AM PDT The acting chief operations officer of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Hlaudi Motsoeneng is under probe for accepting a 22 year old who was given to him as a gift. (girl circled). According to local media, Motsoeneng was given the young woman, along with a cow and a calf, by a lobby group of traditional leaders in Thohoyandou, in Limpopo province, who are seeking greater exposure of their culture. A Soweto-based newspaper reported last week that about 10 half-naked women were lined up and Motsoeneng was asked to pick one. He picked a human resources management student named Vanessa Mutswari. Vanessa is pictured above bare-breasted next to him, standing behind a trailer on which the other gifts, a cow and a calf had been loaded. And she's so happy to be given out as a gift. Continue... Immediately the photos were published, the SABC boss came under attack with people describing the offer of a "wife" as "barbaric". South African women's groups have protested against the act, asking Motsoeneng to be investigated and the girl immediately returned to her family. "The use of women as gifts as if they were livestock is a serious regress and an insult to the gains of 20 years of democracy and freedom, particularly the contribution of women," women's ministry spokeswoman Kenosi Machepa said.Gender commission spokesman Baloyi said an investigation has been launched and the girl's family contacted. Motsoeneng has not responded publicly to the allegations. |

Ekiti Gov Kayode Fayemi concedes defeat, congratulates Ayo Fayose Posted: 22 Jun 2014 03:53 AM PDT Incumbent Governor of Ekiti State and APC Flag-bearer, Governor Kayode Fayemi has conceded defeat and congratulated Ayo Fayose, the PDP candidate at yesterday's governorship election. At a press conference in Ado Ekiti this morning, Governor Fayemi wished the Governor-elect, Ayo Fayose all the best in his service as Governor of the state. See the transcript of his speech after the cut as posted on the Facebook wall of the Senior Special Assistant (Corporate Communications) to Governor Fayemi, Mr Akin Rotimi.... In o kun o Ekiti kete. Yesterday, Ekiti State decided. Following the gubernatorial elections held in the land of honour, Ekiti State, Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially returned the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election. If indeed this is the will of the Ekiti People, I stand in deference to your will. If the result of the elections is an expression of the voice of our people, we must all heed your voice. I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme. It has been a hard fought election. As expected, in the course of the campaigns, there were unsavory episodes as the candidates toured the nooks and crannies of the state to sell ourselves to the people. Elections tend to be highly divisive affairs that often see brother rising against brother. Despite our diverse party affiliations, and regardless of which way we voted on Saturday, we must remember that we are all sons and daughters of Ekiti State. Ekiti is ours to build together. On our part, over the course of the campaigns, we presented our scorecards before the people of Ekiti State. We never at any point took your support for granted. We campaigned, we canvassed and we traversed the nooks and crannies of this State. Our performance and achievements in office will remain the backdrop against which the next government and indeed future governments will be assessed. We are proud that with the support of Ekiti people, we have raised the bar of excellence in governance. In all, we gave our best, for conscience and for posterity. Indeed a new sociology of the Ekiti people may have evolved. However, the task of understanding how the outcome of this election has defined us as a people will be that of scholars. For us as an administration and a cadre of political leaders in Ekiti State, we have fought a good fight, we have kept faith. To members of our party, our campaign team and indeed all Ekiti people who defied the siege on our state to cast their votes for our party, I salute your exemplary courage and doggedness in the face of harassment. Thank you for staying the course. The incidences of brazen harassment, intimidation and allied infractions on fundamental human rights, which many of you suffered in the hands of agents of the state, would be documented and communicated to the appropriate authorities, for the records. I thank you all for listening. May God bless the land of honour, Ekiti State, Nigeria. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr. Kayode Fayemi Governor, Ekiti State Sunday, June 22, 2014 |
