| Vaseline treats media personalities to a revitalizing spa experience Posted: 12 Jun 2014 11:54 AM PDT  It was a day of pampering for journalists, OAPs and bloggers at the media launch of Vaseline lotions and Creams at the BNatural Spa in Ikeja last week, as Unilever Nigeria Plc, manufacturers of diverse home and personal care consumer products treated them to a revitalizing time at the spa. First Kanye dropped Jay's name out of Cold, in the part where he says, "Might have Jay drop you from the team," in reference to his wife Kim K's second ex-husband Kris Humphries who plays for the Brooklyn Nets, once part-owned by Jay Z. Then he dropped Jay's name from Blood on the Leaves where he says "I don't give a damn if you talk to Jay." This move has been widely interpreted as a slight by fans. | UBA Targets New Generation of Customers with Next-Gen Account Posted: 12 Jun 2014 07:19 AM PDT  United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc is set to build a new generation of loyal customers with its new suit of products tailored to meet the unique needs of teenagers and young adults. The product "Next-Gen" account, which was launched at Intercontinental Hotel on Monday, is basically a suit of personal current accounts designed to offer special privileges and opportunities to account holders. Though the product is designed as a current account, holders have the opportunity of automatically being enrolled for savings accounts as well. Speaking at the launch of the Product, Femi Olaloku, Executive Director, Treasury and International Banking who represented the bank's Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Phillips Oduoza said "Next Gen is about capturing and engaging the next generation of educated and enlightened professionals, employees, entrepreneurs, self employed persons, from all walks of life, early in their financial life cycle."
The UBANext-Gen Account is designed to appeal to the educated and enlightened teenager and young adult from ages of 13 to 34. The product comes with features that fit into the unique needs of customers based on their age. "This is a product that grows with the customer from his or her teenage years to when he or she becomes a young adult. Next Gen is unique in the banking industry because it is not really a product. It is a partnership where the bank is taking on a mentorship role to guide customers into a future life of prosperity." Olaloku explained. He also said that the Next Gen account has been designed to take care of every young person's unique needs from when he or she first breaks into his or her teenage years at 13 to when he or she is on the border of full adulthood at 34. "It takes care of the unique needs of teenage customers when they are in secondary school through university to when they get their first job, start a family and even consider building their first house. At each of these critical stages in their lives, the Next Gen account provides financial options and opportunities to make life more comfortable for them and their family." Breaking down the unique features of the Next Gen account, Iyke Idukpaye, Head, Current Accounts and Credit Products, UBA Plc explained that Teenagers who open a Next Gen account will become part of the UBA Teen Fan Club, which offers great opportunities and great networking. He also explained that as teenagers with a Next Gen account grow and gain admission into tertiary institutions, they will enjoy great mentorship, internships and career advisory reserved only for account holders.
Account holders will also have access to 24 hour online banking services on UBA's highly acclaimed internet banking platform besides other privileges like specially branded Mastercard, interest bearing savings accounts, career advisory, scholarships, work place experience schemes with the UBA Group, entrepreneurial skills development workshops and social media engagements. Students from different secondary and tertiary institutions attended the launch event. Aina Oyawande, a student of University of Lagos, commended UBA for introducing the product saying the incentives attached will make her open an account with the bank. | Nigerian woman sentenced to 25 years in jail in Cambodia for drug trafficking Posted: 12 Jun 2014 05:10 AM PDT  A Cambodian Municipal Court yesterday June 11th sentenced 36 year old Nigerian woman, Collin Seniola Bosede to 25 years in prison for international drug trafficking after being found with 1.5kg of methamphetamine in her bag at the Phnom Penh International Airport in August 2013. Bosede, who was travelling to Cambodia from Nigeria on August 4th made a stop at Qatar where according to her confessional statement, she met with a Canadian man named Amad who handed her a bag containing cassette players, the drug, clothes and a laptop and asked her to give it to an unidentified man in Cambodia. She was arrested as she landed at the Phnom Penh Airport. During her trial on May 27th 2014, Bosede said she did not know the bag contained any drug as what she saw was only the laptop and the clothes in the bag. As the court read the verdict yesterday, she began crying. "It was very unjust. I was not the drug trafficker. Please release me. I want to go back home," Bosede said. | ||||||

Some, especially those who belonged to Rotary club, were even taught to recite it in Secondary Schools during our Clubs & Associations' week.  This year they have done it again. Few weeks ago, Rotary Club, with support from Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, the CSR arm of Coca-Cola, touched the lives of many across the country by giving free test to High Blood Pressure patients; free eyeglasses; mosquito nets; drugs etc. The free healthcare happened in Lagos, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Benue, and many more states. Governor Fashola slashes LASU school fees Posted: 12 Jun 2014 02:14 AM PDT   Announcing the reduction at a press conference yesterday in Alausa Ikeja, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Fatai Olukoga said after much deliberations by the adhoc committee set up by the Governor to look into all the grey areas of the proposed new fees, the Governor yesterday adopted the committees recommendations and approved the reductions. "Government agrees that with the subsidized tuition fees and appropriate moderation of incidental fees, a reduction ranging from 34% to 60% is possible across the different faculties and courses. Government has therefore approved the reductions and, in accordance with the law setting up the university, forwarded its approval to the institution's Governing Council for implementation. The council will issue details of what is now payable by students in each department" Olukoga said Olukoga also said the reduction in fees would not affect the state government's release of research fund, scholarship, bursary provisions and promised that the government's spending on infrastructure and physical development of LASU will continue. | ||||||

| Robbers snatch bag containing N200 and baby faeces ...lol Posted: 11 Jun 2014 03:02 PM PDT  The breastfeeding mother, Mama Ikechi, told Leadership that she was returning from Ikorodu area with her baby and got to Okokomaiko around 6.15am. She said she was heading to Shibiri area when two men on a motorcycle stopped beside her and snatched her bag. She said the robbers should be ashamed of themselves when they discover that the bag also contains her baby's faeces. Continue... She expressed satisfaction at what awaits the hoodlums when they open the polythene bag & perceive the odour emanating from it. The woman said, "when I told people around that robbers had snatched my bag, they blamed me for not raising the alarm, but they busted into laughter when I told them the content of the bag." | Body of late Prof Dora Akunyili arrives Nigeria Posted: 11 Jun 2014 02:56 PM PDT  The body late Prof. Dora Akunyili was this evening received by members of her family as well as the former Governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja Her body, accompained by her husband Dr Chike Akunyili and younger brother Dr. Anayo Edemobi , was flown into Nigeria in a private jet and conveyed to a mortuary in Abuja in an Ambulance. Speaking with newsmen, Peter Obi said burial plans for the late professor will begin immediately. | ||||||
