16yr old kidnapped, beaten and left for dead in a shopping trolley by Paris vigilantes

Posted: 19 Jun 2014 08:37 AM PDT

These are the shocking pics of a Roma teenager who was beaten and left for dead in a supermarket trolley. Vigilantes kidnapped the 16-year-old boy, known only as Darius, from the camp he shares with his family near the northern commuter town of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine on the outskirts of Paris.

The thugs rang the youngster's mother demanding a €12,000 ransom for the safe return of her son. The figure was later reduced to €4,000, but when it was not paid, the gang battered Darius before dumping him in a shopping trolley before leaving it on the roadside. Continue...

Doctors in a Paris hospital have placed Darius in a medically induced coma following Friday's brutal assault, which has left him fighting for his life.

Police confirmed that Darius was set upon on Friday night by a 'dozen masked men on waste ground around Pierrefitte,' according to a police source.
The boy's mother has told detectives that she received a call from the vigilantes on his abandoned mobile phone.

The shocking photographs first appeared on The Telegraph.

They were first alleged to have asked for around £12,000 before reducing the demand to around £4,000, saying he would be hurt if the ransom was not met.
Nothing was paid in the end, and Darius was left in the trolley close to the illegal Roma camp in the northern suburb of Pierrefitte where he lived, according to local prosecutor Sylvie Moisson.

Ms Moisson said Darius was held in a basement by men wearing masks and carrying weapons after he was linked to a burglary.

Calling the attack 'an act of barbarism', she said the burglar's description fitted that of Darius, who was 'quickly hunted, kidnapped, held, beaten and left to die.'
It was his mother who reported the attack, and the victim was found shortly after 11pm on Friday.

A spokesman for the Lariboisiere hospital in Paris said Darius was still in a 'chemically induced coma' because of the pain he was experiencing.

Photos: Gov. Amaechi detained by soldiers in Ondo – Rivers Govt

Posted: 19 Jun 2014 08:55 AM PDT

The Rivers State Government has issued a statement saying the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has been arrested and detained by security operatives in Odudu, Ondo state.

Governor Amaechi had arrived Ondo state en-route Ado-Ekiti where he was to join his fellow APC Governor, Kayode Fayemi for the last lap of his re-election campaign today in when he was refused entry into the state. He decided to turn back to Ondo state to go board the private jet that brought him but was however arrested by security agents.

Read the statement from Rivers Government plus pictures of Amaechi being held at the Ondo/Ekiti border by soldiers after the cut

The Rivers State Government is concerned about the safety of Governor Amaechi who is right now being held hostage commando style by soldiers and federal government security agents in Odudu, Ondo state.
Governor Amaechi as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' forum and as an APC governor and chieftain had left Port Harcourt this morning for Ekiti state where he was to join his brother governor in his last mega rally before the elections.
Governor Amaechi was ambushed and refused entry into Ekiti by military personnel acting on orders from above. He made to turn back and return to Akure where his chattered aircraft was parked but was chased and rounded by armed soldiers and security personnel in Odudu, Ondo state. According to the captain who led the operation, he had orders not to allow the governor entry or exit.
In the meantime, the chattered aircraft that conveyed he governor has been grounded while the minsters of Defence, police Affairs and Minister of state for Defence have landed at the Akure airport.
The Rivers State government is especially worried that Federal government and President Jonathan have singled out Governor Amaechi for harassment and attack.
While we hold the person and office of the President in utmost regards, we believe that it is unacceptable that the presidency would disrespect the person and office of an elected governor of a federating unit and consistently hound him.
The Rivers state government is all more worried as Ondo saga is coming on the heels of a plot by six PDP lawmakers this morning to carry out a kangaroo impeachment of the duly elected governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, con first at Krisdara hotels and later Bauchi street, Port Harcourt.
Ordinarily such banality should be ignored as it is neither legal nor constitutional. However in the light of the recent attempts to hoist a Chief Judge on Rivers people through the back door and the attendant rumours that the reason for that desperate act was to make it easier for the PDP to actualize its sinister daydream of ousting Governor Amaechi before May 29, 2015, we believe that it has become necessary to draw the attention of Rivers people, Nigerians and the international community to the situation in Rivers State.
Only yesterday, in preparation for this tragicomedy, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused Governor Amaechi of importing terrorists into the state and the region. They continued their diatribe by demanding that the governor of Rivers State be put under surveillance. The State Government wouldn't have dignified the PDP's display of ignorance with a response but for the fact that these accusations coupled with today's actions are omniuos signs of how far the PDP is willing to go in its quest to cling onto power by all means.
The antecedents of impunity on the part of the leadership of the PDP are instructive and the party's desperation to harm and stop anyone they perceive as major threat to their crumpling electoral fortunes next year is no longer news. The detention attempt and incident at the Kano International Airport last week are still fresh in the minds of Nigerians. Also, the call to put Gov Amaechi under surveillance (or is it house arrest?) on the same day that PDP started effort to unseat the Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency, Murtala Nyako, is enough indication of the script already written by a jittery PDP
It is sad that the insane minds of the authors of the PDP accusation are jeopardizing police investigations of the 486 travellers who were intercepted in Aba, Abia State, and who are still being screened. One only wishes that the PDP would address the issues of the insecurity in the country with as much fervor and vigour as it deploys towards witch hunting its political opponents
The River Government wishes to state that the world knows those who feather the nest of cultists and militants and for whom they are canon fodder. Governor Amaechi's position on cultisim, violence and insecurity are clear as is his commitment to fighting poverty and improving the lives of our present and future generations.
The Rivers State Government will not be deterred in its efforts to deliver good governance and ddemocratic dividends to our people.
We appeal to all Rivers people appeals to all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and citizens in the state to remain calm in the face of these provocations.
We call on the Security Agencies to exhibit professionalism in their conduct of affairs. We appeal to all well meaning people in Nigeria and around the world to please call the PDP to order before they truncate our democracy.
It appears to us that the PDP clearly have no interest in the peace and stability either Rivers state.
We are mindful of these mischievous elements but continue to call for tolerance and eternal vigilance. We are certain that the God who reigns in the affairs of Rivers people will again deliver us from this evil and terror that stalks us at noon day

Ekiti guber elections: APC Governors allegedly barred from landing private planes in Akure

Posted: 19 Jun 2014 07:14 AM PDT

The APC is claiming that some of their governors have been barred from landing their private planes in Akure ahead of the June 21st governorship election in Ekiti state. The leadership of the opposition party said while APC Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, managed to land his plane, Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso and Adams Oshiomhole weren't so lucky as their planes were denied the rights to land at the Akure Airport.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who also managed to avoid the airport security, was allegedly stopped by soldiers from proceeding to Ekiti by road.

The APC governors and leaders are going to Ado for the party's final campaign on Friday & to show solidarity to the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi. Continue...

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said at least three Governors - Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano - have so far been prevented from making the trip.

It said the helicopter that was to ferry Gov. Oshiomhole from Benin to Ado-Ekiti was refused permission to take off from the Benin Airport, while the plane that was flying Gov. Kwankwanso to Akure was denied permission to land.

According to the APC, while the plane carrying Gov. Amaechi actually landed in Akure, his convoy was stopped at the border between Ondo and Ekiti States and ordered to turn back, because he would not be allowed to reach Ado-Ekiti.

The party said while Gov. Amaechi's convoy was being detained in order to force him to turn back, the convoys of the Ministers of Defense and Police Affairs came and were allowed to pass.
''These acts are illegal and definitely not in line with the Electoral Act, which stipulates that campaign for the election will only end at midnight on Friday.
''It also represents a manipulation of the electoral process when all the candidates will not be allowed a level playing field to campaign for the election. There is no clearer manifestation of the federal government's allergy to free, fair, transparent and violence-free election than this.
''Several months ago, we warned that Nigeria under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan was sliding into fascism and we were pilloried in certain quarters for daring to make such a statement. Today, we have sadly been vindicated.
''Not even in the worst days of the abhorrent military dictatorship were things done this brazenly, with citizens being denied their fundamental rights of free movement, free assembly and free expression, all because of the desperation by the ruling party to win elections at all costs.
''We therefore call on all good people of Nigeria and indeed all the country's international friends to speak out against what is happening before things get out of hand. If democratically-elected Governors could be so shabbily treated, despite the high office they occupy, what will happen to ordinary Nigerians in the hands of an increasingly-fascist government?'' The party said

'Why I named my twins Nollywood & Hollywood' - Ogedengbe reveals

Posted: 19 Jun 2014 05:20 AM PDT

Lanky actor and movie producer Femi Ogedengbe who welcomed a set of twins with his wife in May and named them Nollywood and Hollywood is still talking about why he chose the names for his son and daughter. Speaking with Encomium magazine this week, Femi explains;
"The names are my own way of appreciating the industry that gave me a chance, that is Nollywood and the industry I aspire to breakthrough, Hollywood. I will simply say thank you to the people who criticized me for giving me attention. It shows they noticed me. Also it shows they left their own problems to respond to a guy with a very humble background from Dagbale Akoko Edo who grew up in the slums of Mushin. Furthermore, to those who say I am an attention seeker, I say thanks to them for granting me and my wife undue attention. Sadly it did not come with money"

Coup d’ etat rumours unfounded – CDS

Posted: 19 Jun 2014 04:11 AM PDT

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has refuted rumors of a possible coup d' etat by the military, stating that the rumour was unfounded.

ACM Badeh stated this on Tuesday June 18th while receiving the Director General of the National Orientation Agency , Dr Mike Omeiri in his office. He said the Military would always work to protect the democracy of Nigeria and not destroy it.
"Rumours in some quarters of a possible coup d'état in the country are unfounded. Why should anyone be thinking in the negative fashion? Tell them we will not do it. Those spreading rumours of coups must be living elsewhere and not in Nigeria. The Armed Forces are defenders of democracy. We are an arm of democracy, so how can an arm of democracy work against the democracy that we are part of?" he said

In the 90th minute of the match, Cameroon defender, Benoit Assou-Ekotto headbutted teammate Benjamin Moukandjo after exchanging a few words with him. Another teammate Pierre Webo had to break the pair up as it seemed they were ready to forget the football they came to Brazil to play and fight each other in front of millions of football fans.
