UNILAG undergraduate wins gold medal, car in 2014 Onga campus cooking contest Posted: 13 Jan 2015 11:16 AM PST A 22-year old law student of University of Lagos, Miss Temitope Oyedija; has emerged the overall winner in this year's Onga National Campus Cooking Competition thereby winning the star prize of 2014 KIA Rio full option. With the Okro Soup and Garri she prepared at the Grand Finale of the competition held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the university, Oyedija dazzled other regional winners who represented 13 other universities in the country. Kachi Onubogu, Executive Director, Commercial, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, sponsors of the competition; who made the announcement said cooking is a universal art done in every part of the world. Based on this, he said Promasidor's target is to make the competition premium amongst the youth in Nigeria. Onubogu stated that as a national competition, the cooking contest launched in August 2014 was activated in 14 campuses spread across the country such that many willing students could gain access to participate. Overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of all participants in the competition, the Commercial Director advised all the finalists to see themselves as winners. His words: "We are proud to have all of you here today. See yourself as a winner whether or not you clinch the star prize. As long as you are one of the 14 contestants here today, you are a winner. You will go home with a prize." Dazed by the final result of the annual event, Oyedija disclosed that when the competition started, she was confused over where to start her cooking from. "I later after some minutes got my bearing back," she stated. On who inspired her cooking skills, she said it was God who created her; who has endowed her with the culinary skills. As a result, she said she would dedicate the prize she won to God first, and then to her mother. Satisfied with the competition, Edna Obi, Senior Category Manager, Promasidor explained that the event achieved its objectives which include giving students across select campuses the opportunity to sharpen their culinary skills; enlighten the public on the wide variety of dishes enjoyed by different cultures across the country; and create an emotional bond between the brand's target audience and the Onga Seasoning through active engagement and one-on-one interaction. She assured that Promasidor will not relent in embracing any laudable idea that will contribute to the development of its target audience and the society at large. Other contestants present at the Grand Finale include the first runner up, Isaac Uzoenyi, a student of Abia State University; Jessica Egbenwonu, a student of Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan; Miss Arafat Azeez, student of Environmental Resources Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB); and Christopher Xyztus, student of School of Natural and Applied Science, Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Domestic abuse victim shares her story Posted: 13 Jan 2015 08:41 AM PST A 30 year old mother of two shares her story of domestic abuse from her husband who lives & works abroad. She wrote the story herself because she says she's desperate and needs help. Read below...
He started by rejecting my second pregnancy, hence accusing me of infidelity. Before my first pregnancy, I accepted his younger sister who is a little bit older than me into our home with love, hoping to get some love and appreciation for my kindness. The reverse became the case. This lady turned out to be the most painful bee sting I've ever had in life. She hated me and some of my visiting siblings for no just cause. It got to a point where she started leveling all sorts of unimaginable accusations against me (including doing charms and cheating on his brother). Being naïve, my husband never really confronted me based on any of the accusations; all he did was act on them instead. I was never protected, defended nor spoken for by my beloved husband, not even when he knew that his family members hated me with passion before our solemnization. As days went into weeks, and weeks into months, my pride was taken away from me.my hubby started treating me as though I was a maid. He practically took decisions with his sister on my behalf, all they do was to make me accepted their decisions, which practically degraded, demoralized and killed my pride as a wife and mother. All I did was to look unto God for the grace and strength to persevere. My second pregnancy, which was to make my husband of just one year mellow down and recognize me as his lovely wedded wife, did nothing but worsened the entire drama. "…so what they have been telling me is true eh? If you are truly pregnant, you will suffer…" Those were the exact words of my love the moment I told him that I was pregnant with our second baby. Well he meant it, because he seized calling us like he used to, he stopped giving us financial support meant for feeding and domestic expenses, knowing fully well that I can neither work nor do business, since our first child (who was always sick) was just seven (7) months old and besides am down with another one. I went through hell just to survive with my baby; it got so bad that I had to fall back to my struggling parents for financial support. I didn't start antenatal until the eight (8th) month of my pregnancy, which I won't recommend for any expecting mother. This estranged man called and sent us some money for hospital bills when I was due for delivery, warning me that I shouldn't welcome any of my family members (particularly my mum) into our home when I put to bed. I had complications during that child birth, and not one member of his family visited me at the hospital but my family members especially my mum were all there to support and help a dying daughter. Thank God for the gift of life. That little concern he showed during my child birth vanished shortly after I was discharged, and this time around things got worse, he neither called to know how our new born baby faired nor to ask after our first child. As a fathered he failed his children and as a husband he betrayed and failed me. I have called him on many occasions to plead with him to show us some love and care, but he's too proud to hear me as all my pleas fell on deaf ears. To abuse us the more he ignored an emergency call put across to him by me for financial support when his first child was critically sick. Recently he called meon phone yelling like a horning train and calling me names like 'demon','witch' and many more, on the bases that his siblings told him some scary and terrifying secrets about me which am yet to find out . To crown it all he recently threatened to physically abuse me if he comes back from abroad, and he said it's real soon. l don't wish to continue dwelling in this emotional trauma since the marriage is not really working . I want out, but I don't know how to go about it.Moreover as a graduate, I neither work nor trade. Therefore I appeal to well-meaning Nigerian advocates to advise me on what steps to take in order to remain in custody of my two(2) children (aged 18 and 7 months respectively) as I fear that he's coming to take my bundle of joy away from me. Thank You.

Dear LIB readers: I need your help with my girlfriend... Posted: 13 Jan 2015 07:38 AM PST From a male LIB reader I've been in a relationship with my gf for about 4mths now & apart from d normal bf/gf squabbles, it's been all good. I occasionally pick her from work though she drives as well. I've been into her office on 2 occasions though. She closes at 5pm but often comes back at about 7pm & says she's working late. So, when she called me after 5pm & said she was still in d office, I decided to drive by her office at about 8pm on my way from work so we could stop by a sit out b4 getting home. Her car wasn't at d office & she wasn't picking my calls. She'd left d office & I drove to her house but she arrived an hr later saying she'd work errands to run.

Fan was rushed to hospital, where the organ was sewn back on.
A hospital spokesman said: "The first we were aware of what happened was when someone came into the reception area to say a naked man was beating up a woman outside the hospital. "Staff rushed out to see what was happening and found the patient with blood streaming down his legs hitting the woman. "He was stopped and the woman was taken in for treatment, and then we discovered she had chopped his penis off again." Doctors and police officers combed the area outside but failed to find the man's missing member. They believed it may have been taken by a stray dog or cat. The hospital spokesman added: "The man had lost a lot of blood and was taken in for emergency surgery. "He is now in a stable condition but is extremely emotionally distraught." Fan's lover who arrived at the hospital said she planned to marry him as soon as she could. She said: "It doesn't matter that he's lost his fertility, he has five children already."
