At the start of each year, majority of Nigerians come up with long and sometimes ambiguous lists of things they plan to improve on in various aspects of their lives. The resolutions cover a wide range of activities from health consciousness to financial prudence.

30 Days in Atlanta has been declared the highest grossing movie of all time in the history of Nigeria. This was confirmed by Ben Bruce who did a countdown of the six highest grossing movies in Nigeria and how much they grossed (see video after the cut). Following its record-breaking Box-Office success in Nigeria, Friday, January 30th, 2015 has been announced as Accra's Premiere date for '30 Days in Atlanta' – The AMVCA 2015 mutiple nominee and award winning movie

 
The Premiere is a Red-Carpet event scheduled for Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall by 6pm. it will feature some of the major cast and Crew of the Movie, including AY, Ramsey Nouah, Ada Ameh, Desmond Elliot, and the two stars representing Gollywood in the film – Majid Michel and Juliet Ibrahim.

Dear LIB readers; My ex-boyfriend is mad at me because I'm about to marry his uncle

I had been in an off and on relationship for nearly eight years, though we were more off than on. There were times I tried to move on but I always allowed my emotions to draw me back since I loved the guy in question to a fault. I can't begin to narrate all the things he put me through, he can be  very arrogant and so full of himself yet I would excitedly run back into his arms whenever he chose to open them to me again.
Sometime in the middle of last year, I traveled for his younger sister's  marriage. She's a close friend of mine too. I had thought that would be an opportunity to reconcile with my man (we were in one of our off sessions then) but that didn't happen. Instead I met with the biggest disappointment and embarrassment of my life. My guy formed too busy and was not ready to give me any attention. All through my stay in their family house, he made extra effort to avoid any form of contact with me so I let him be.

Anyway, something else happened during my stay. His maternal uncle (not an old man please, but a young adorable guy in his late thirties) became interested in me. We exchanged contacts, became friends right away and later started a relationship.

Now he has asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! I have since told him about his nephew and I.

However, my head ache now is that my ex and his sister are accusing me of trying to ruin the relationship between them and their uncle, my bae..😁. They've been sending me text messages and throwing shades at me on social networks. It's really heartbreaking as most of the things they post are demeaning. Was I wrong in accepting to marry him? Should I have said no? I am not going back on the wedding which has been fixed for Easter, but I want to be convinced that I'm not treacherous as they both said I am.

Days after some Nigerian soldiers spoke with CNN exclusively and exposed what they claim is the 'rot' in the military, i.e, they buy their own kit, they are not well equipped etc, Major General Chris Olukolade, the Nigerian Defence Spokesperson took to twitter this evening to set the record straight. He asked Nigerians to ask whatever questions they wanted to know about what the Nigerian military is doing in their battle against Boko Haram and he addressed some of the things the soldiers alleged in that CNN interview. Gone Too Far Impresses Cinema Guests

Afew weeks ago we announced the release of the highly anticipated British Nigerian Comedy starring the hugely talente‎d and handsome OC Ukeje. 


Well, the film started its run in Nigerian cinemas on Friday and all indications are that it is living to the hype of being not just a well made film but every bit funny throughout the entire 90 minutes. Some cinema customers went as far as comparing it to Nigeria's biggest boxoffice smash hit '30 Days in Atlanta' in terms of the comedy elements.
 
One of the guests we spoke to at the Filmhouse Cinema, Samonda Ibadan said 'wow, I don't think there was any 5 minutes throughout the film that I wasn't laughing really hard that tears were flowing, what a lovely film, one that everyone should see to put them in a nice mood'

Another guest commented 'OC Ukeje is such an outstanding‎ actor, he shows tremendous versatility in Gone Too Far and does it in such a honest funny way, I'm glad I saw this film'

British comedian Russell Brand is defending Bruce Jenner days after InTouch mag published a cover with an altered image of the Kardashian Patriarch wearing heavy make-up, saying he was transitioning into a woman. Russell says it's trans-phobic bullying and shouldn't be tolerated...
"This is bullying. Stop. Bruce Jenner is a human being. For some sections of the media, transphobia seems to be the most recent and encouraged form of prejudice, now that racism and homophobia are not tolerated.
"We can't be homophobic anymore. Can't be racist anymore. But still can be transphobic though, can we? Don't this seem like when you see Blade Runner, or some dystopian thing – when you see a bit of telly in a film from the future, and everything's a bit 'hello, we're evil now! Meet the soldier who has become the army's 1st transgender officer

Captain Hannah Winterbourne (right) is the first transgender officer in the world. She was born a man and spent the first few years in the Army as a man before deciding to undergo a sex-change operation while serving in Afghanistan and began her transition in 2013. Now she's the Army's most highly ranked transgender soldier and the only one to become an officer. She's now in charge of 100 soldiers

"I think initially it was a bit of a shock to some people, they weren't really expecting it because it's not something you come across every day in the Army. However I think people soon realised that it didn't make a difference to my job. At the end of the day I can still do all the things I could do before I transitioned.
"That's what the Army respects because we're all about capability and output. That's what matters."
Hannah said of her decision to become a woman: "It's about finding that courage to do it. And that's not the easiest thing in the world. "I was acting for everyone around me. There was no let up where I could stop that act." she said
Hannah said that it was impossible to spend time on her own and be honest with herself while serving in Afghanistan.


She added: "That was a nudge which eventually ended up with me coming out and changing myself and my way of life."
Hannah, the Army's most highly-ranked transgender soldier, revealed that the battle with her gender began when she was a young lad.
Determined to pursue a career in the Army, she enrolled at a residential college designed for students to enter the Forces.
The Army then sponsored her Electronic Engineering degree at Newcastle University, from where she went on to Sandhurst.
Hannah said: "The point where I realised I was a woman but my body was wrong was around the age of 23 at Sandhurst.
"After I was posted to Germany I decided to go to the doctors and told them. And that's when my transition process began."
Hannah has refused to reveal her previous male name, describing it as a 'label'.
She is now a rep for other transgender servicemen and women and said: "Despite being perceived as a very masculine, old school, organisation the Army's actually very forward thinking."
Hannah was commissioned from Sandhurst in 2010 after being selected for officer training aged 15.           
Despite the difficulties of coming out as transgender she said the Army had been "a fantastic employer".

"I came out as a trans soldier about a year and a half ago when I was in Germany and since then I've become the highest ranking, openly serving trans soldier serving in the regular army.
"One of my additional duties is that I'm the transgender representative in the British Army, which sees me dealing with education, welfare and dealing with any issues that trans soldiers may have.


"The British Army is a fantastic employer for trans soldiers. We've had policies since 1999 and it's all really, really clear."
A film featuring Hannah's life has appeared online and is due to be broadcast by Channel Four as part of a series of short films about transgender people.

Boko Haram frees 20 captured in Cameroon

According to BBC, 20 out of the 80 people captured by members of Boko Haram in a cross-border attack in North Cameroon yesterday January 18th have been freed. Cameroon's defence ministry in a statement released today said the hostages were freed "as defence forces pursued the attackers who were heading back to Nigeria". Boko Haram yesterday launched a fierce attack on some villages in Cameroon, capturing 80 people, most of them children.

A suspected internet fraudster, Emeofa Michael Ikechukwu has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly obtaining the sum of One hundred thousand United States Dollars from a Dane, Hengameh Misepasi in a romance scam. Ikechukwu who also go by the alias, Michael Briggs , was picked up in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by the Commission's operatives following a petition from the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.
The suspect allegedly met the victim online in February 2013 and falsely represented himself as an American business executive on business visit to Nigeria.

 In the course of the internet affair, Ikechukwu promised his victim marriage and later began to make monetary demands on her, using various excuses. Once, he told her that he had problems with government officials and requested for a loan. He later cajoled her into partnering with him on a phantom timber business. The last request he made before he was arrested was a demand for $10,000 to enable him travel to Denmark to meet her. It was while he was attempting to draw the $100 sent by the victim( instead of the $10,000 requested) through Western Union that he was arrested. The suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.

UK Prime Minster David Cameron doesn't approve of the comment Pope Francis made following the Charlie Hebdo massacre. Speaking about freedom of expression and its limit, the Pope said 'you cannot insult the faith of others and if you do, you can expect a punch'. Read here

But opposing what the Pope said, Cameron said freedom of speech is important in an open society;
'I think in a free society, there is a right to cause offence about someone's religion. I'm a Christian; if someone says something offensive about Jesus, I might find that offensive, but in a free society I don't have a right to wreak vengeance on them. We have to accept that newspapers, magazines, can publish things that are offensive to some, as long as it's within the law. That is what we should defend.'
