Our Ideology Has Enhanced Business Growth - PDP Says

Posted: 04 Jan 2015 01:18 PM PST

In a statement released this afternoon, the PDP says its ideology has enhanced the growth of businesses in Nigeria and also energized the private sector. The statement signed by the party's Publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh reads in part;
The growth of the private sector under the PDP has been phenomenal. This did not happen by chance. Our governments at all levels have been guided by our economic policy, which directs the creation of a dynamic economy in which market forces are combined with the forces of partnership, solidarity and cooperation for the benefit of the people.
"The hallmark of the PDP administration remains the policy of transfer
of wealth from the public sector to hardworking and enterprising
Nigerians. This has not only revived and empowered the private sector
but also expanded the nation's economic frontiers with an unprecedented
growth in small and medium scale enterprises, which has helped in
providing employment for our citizens across the country.

"The fact remains that under the PDP, Nigerian entrepreneurs have fared
better more than ever before. Under our government, more private
businesses have sprung up. More banks have been opened and performing
well; the telecommunication, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors have
witnessed exceptional expansion; more transport companies, hotels,
farms, schools and hospitals are springing up; more reputable
international retail businesses and food processing concerns have opened
in our country.

"Under the PDP, our hitherto weak and unreliable banking sector has been
repositioned and strengthened. Today, our nation boasts of a strong and
stable banking system which has restored investor confidence and
provided support for growth in other sectors of the economy. Nigerian
banks are now growing stronger with many of them having hundreds of
branches and business offices locally and internationally.

"Also following the conducive business environment created by successive
PDP administrations, the telecommunication sector has witnessed
tremendous expansion in the last 15 years with firms such as Globacom,
Etisalat, MTN, Airtel among others opening new lines and empowering
millions of our people through direct and indirect employment and access
to global business connections.

"In the same vein, we have witnessed a revolution in the retail sector
with reputable international concerns establishing in Nigeria and
recording impressive performance following the nation's encouraging
demographics and stronger purchasing power of our citizens.

"International retail giants such as Shoprite, Internationale Spar
Centrale BV among others are expanding the retail frontiers. The rebirth
of shopping malls in all major cities of the country attests to the
empowerment of Nigerian entrepreneurs in this sub-sector.

"In the manufacturing sector, the PDP has not only revived but also
revolutionized the nation's automobile industry.Today, through the New
Automobile Industry Policy initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan,
vehicles are now being manufactured in our country.

"Automobiles manufactured by Innoson Group, an indigenous firm are
competing favoruably in the market. Leading vehicle manufacturers such
as Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia, have set up factories in Nigeria and are
employing thousands of our people. This is in addition to the
revitalization of Peugeot Nigeria and ANAMCO.

"Hardworking private individuals are now thriving in their business
endeavors. Brand names such as the Dangotes, the INTEL Services as well
as several others in food processing, hospitality, transport,
construction, oil and gas are recording huge successes.

"Even in the media, there has been an unprecedented growth with
Nigerians firms thriving and competing favorably in print, electronic
and online ventures following the business and media-friendly
environment provided by the PDP".

Noting that the successes recorded so far came through careful planning
and execution of its economic strategies, the PDP assured that with
continuous implementation of its wealth creation polices, the future of
the Nigerian business community is secure with attendant benefits to the
citizens.

I Consulted Pastor Adeboye Before Accepting To Be Buhari’s Running Mate - Osinbajo

Posted: 04 Jan 2015 01:02 PM PST

APC's Muhammadu Buhari's running mate, Yemi Osinbajo who also doubles as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, said he consulted the General Overseer of the church, Pastor E.A Adeboye, before embarking on this journey, Mr Osinbajo spoke to Kayode Falade...
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, where you are a pastor, has come out to say it never endorsed you…
I don't think the church has ever said any such thing. Also, the church does not endorse candidates. The General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has not said any such thing. He has not issued any statement. In any event, the RCCG as a church cannot endorse a candidate. How can a church endorse a candidate?
But did you seek Pastor Adeboye's consent before accepting the nomination?

I serve under the GO of the RCCG as a pastor. If I am going to take any kind of action, especially an action that involves public service, it is my duty to consult with him. It would be absolutely irresponsible of me not to consult with him. And I have consulted with him.

Did he give you his consent?

I have consulted with Adeboye fully. I am not prepared to share with you the details of our discussion. But be absolutely certain that I would not take these steps without properly consulting with him and that I did what was needful.

When I heard IK mention Idris name as winner, I thought he was joking- BBA Tayo

Posted: 04 Jan 2015 11:47 AM PST

Nigeria's rep at the just concluded Big Brother Africa, Tayo Faniran says he was shocked and thought the shows host, IK Osakioduwa was pulling a fast one on him when he heard his fellow competitor, Idris announced as the winner of the reality show
"You see, when we were all in school, we all knew who the best students in the class were, and when someone who was the best student scored 70, we would say, haba, this person should score like 90.  Idris himself knows I won, but he only got the money. When we got on stage and were shown the highlights, I saw myself and I was laughing. In fact, everybody was entertained. The way people cheered when they heard my name assured me that I was winning already, so when Idris's name was mentioned, I was shocked. For a while, I thought IK, the show's host, was joking with me" he told the Nation
Asked if he feels cheated, Tayo said yes
"Well, yes. But I don't feel it anymore because people are not allowing me to feel it. It got to a point that the show became regional. Getting on the internet, a lady had commented on a Facebook page commending Lilian's picture, but she added that she would never vote for West Africa again, so it wasn't against Nigeria, it was against West Africa. While in the house, Ella of Uganda and Franklin from Rwanda used to plead to East Africa to vote for them, and they would tell me to forget the game, since West Africa has won before, so I started fighting against it. I started campaigning during my diary sessions with Big Brother, telling people to vote for facts and not region. I said this at a press conference in South Africa that when we are abroad, we say we are all Africans, but when we are in Africa, we start to say we are East Africans or Southern Africans; we should all be united. It means people are not loyal to the game, they were just voting for their citizens and not for who entertained them the most" he said.
Tayo says acting and being a television personalty is now his dream
"Television has always been my home. I will love to stay around and still be able to entertain people, Africa and the world. I would say I am an element of entertainment and I want to give the best of my ability to the world. I will like to thank every Nigerian that has supported me and shown me love, I really appreciate it" he said.

According to Sunday Sun, Ugochukwu gave birth to her daughter on December 21st and was discharged the next day. On getting to her house, Ugochukwu said she was frustrated and was pushed to killing her baby after the man who impregnated her denied the pregnancy.
"I killed my one-day old baby girl intentionally because I don't have N500 for her medical treatment. I want to be free lady. I didn't have any intention to get pregnant. I was impregnated by one man called Monday, a native of Ozizza Afikpo North LGA. But later he refused to accept the pregnancy and I didn't plan for it. I am not ready to marry; I want to be a free lady. I had to strangle the baby girl and put the corpse in a black polythene bag and dumped it along Ndibe beach road, near the bush. I don't regret killing my baby because nobody was responsible for her upkeep." she told police. The police say she will soon be charged to court.
