Nigerian migrant woman who gave birth at sea says Nigeria is the worst place to live

Posted: 13 May 2015 01:40 PM PDT

On May 2nd, hundreds of immigrants were rescued from overcrowded boats crossing the Mediterranean into Italy. A heavily pregnant Nigerian woman was amongst the migrants and later gave birth to a baby girl who has since been named Francesca Marina. (Read here).

The woman, 24 year old Stephanie Samuel (above) told Reuters that she risked the dangerous voyage to Europe because she wanted a better life for her child.
"I didn't expect the baby, you know, but she just like, she just came. I just wanted to leave Libya. Italy is better than Libya and Nigeria is the worst. God decides, not me ... but I believe she will have a more good future in Europe." Stephanie said

From Reuters

A week after the birth, both Stephanie Samuel, the 24-year-old Nigerian mother, and Francesca Marina have recovered. Doctors at the Sicilian hospital said they would probably be transferred to an immigration center for families with small children in a few days time.
Samuel worked for two years in Tripoli as a housemaid to save money to pay smugglers for the trip, but then the boat she set off in with about 90 others stalled after only three hours at sea.
By the time they were picked up by the Bettica off the Libyan coast seven hours later, she was unconscious after suffering epileptic seizures and had gone into labor.

Hilarious! University student sues school after failing exam twice

Posted: 13 May 2015 01:31 PM PDT

A Pennsylvania university nursing student is suing the school after failing a required course twice, saying anxiety and depression made it difficult for her to concentrate. Jennifer Burbella claims her Misericordia University professor did not do enough to help her pass a class on adult health patterns.

Burbella said the professor gave her a distraction-free environment and extra time for her final exam when she took the class the second time, but did not respond to telephoned questions as promised, giving her even more stress.

Burbella said she started to break down in tears because of the lack of help.

She said the Catholic university gave another disabled student better accommodations and that her treatment violated a federal disability discrimination law.

Burbella entered the university's nursing program in 2010 and struggled toward a bachelor's degree in nursing because of her conditions, the lawsuit says, and experienced great anxiety due to social and academic challenges and family medical issues.

After failing the first time, Burbella says the university forced her to re-take the class in a summer session that began four days later, causing "great trepidation."

The Citizens' Voice reports Burbella is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

Did Tonto Dikeh's ex Malivelihood just throw shade at her?

Posted: 13 May 2015 11:23 AM PDT

I might be over reaching here but I couldn't help but notice what happened today and you know me, I will put one and two together and arrive at 10. Lol. So here's what I observed. Y'all remember a few weeks ago when Tonto Dikeh and luxury shopper Pearl Chuks came for each other on social media over some bags the shopper bought for Tonto Dikeh that she refused to pay for?

Ok, so today, Tonto's ex-boyfriend, luxury designer Malivelihood, took to his instagram page to show off a $15,000 snake skin Givenchy bag he bought for his girlfriend, Deola Smart, saying he hopes she likes it (pictured right). So, how is it related?

Well, like I said, I may be over reaching - but Tonto's fight with the luxury shopper was over replica Givenchy bags, remember? (now getting where I am going? lol). Malivelihood bought same designer brand, Givenchy, made sure to let his followers know it's the real one and told them the price. That seems like a subtle sub to me...lol

50 year-old woman delivers twins after 14 years of childlessness

Posted: 13 May 2015 09:59 AM PDT

Mrs Roseline Akinsola, 50, on Monday delivered a set of twins after 14 years of childlessness. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akinsola, who works at the Ekiti State Christian Pilgrims Board, was full of praises to God for answering her prayers.

The mother of two girls, who weighed 4.2kg and 2.3kg, advised other couples in need of children not to lose hope. In an interview with NAN, she expressed gratitude to God for giving her the children after several years.
"I thank God for the new name he has given to me; before, I was being called Iya Iyanu'' without a child, but today, my name has changed to "Mummy Twins.'' Many of my colleagues, friends and neighbours mocked and sidelined me, but because I stood firm on the words of God, He answered my prayers. I thank my husband, who inspite of the troubles and problems from family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours still believe in me and God.
He stood by me like a father in all ways and also believed in God all through the crisis. I also thank my siblings who stood by me in prayers for years. Let me thank God for all those who stood by me in prayers and encouraged me not to desist from serving God. These children are indeed signs that God never forgets his own people who diligently seek him and believe in his words, " she said.
The father of the twins, Babatunde,49, also expressed gratitude to God for the children.
"We fast, pray and cry unto God for the fruits of the womb for years, but I am happy that today, God has finally fulfilled his promise to my family. I thank members of our church under the callings of Pastor and Mrs David Ajileye for their prayers and care for my family,'' the happy father, who is also a civil servant, said.
Ajileye, who is the General Overseer of the Way of Life Bible Church, Ado-Ekiti, thanked God for his blessings in the lives of the couple.
"We have known the couple for over 15 years and they have been steadfast and faithful in serving God inspite of the challenges they were facing. For years, I and my wife have been praying to God to give the couple the fruit of the womb; I am so happy that the lord has answered their prayers. The church witnessed a similar miracle in 2013 when a couple, members of our church delivered a set of twins, a boy and a girl after 31 years of childlessness,'' he said.
He advised the couple to teach and train the children in the ways of the lord. NAN reports that the mother and the twins were in good health as at press time.

If I was to resurrect in the next life, I will surely look for u again to get married to u again n again n if I don't find you, I will die searching because I wouldn't settle for anything less. A suspected member of the armed robbery gang that attacked a bank in Lekki, Lagos in March this year says he was given only N50,000 from the operation that claimed the lives of three police officers and a teenage street hawker. Ekelemo Kuete.

The suspect, an Ondo state indigene, who is one of the four arrested this week (all 4 pictured above), said 15 of them went for the operation and that he was the one that drove the speed boat that took the robbers to the crime scene and drove them after they had completed their operation.

"We were 15 in number that went for that operation and we used two speed boats. Five of us stayed back in the boat at Lekki while the other 10 went inside the bank. When they killed the policemen and two other civilians I queried them but they didn't listen. I am the speed boat driver that took the armed robbery gang to Lekki on March 12, 2015. I didn't want to go, they forced me, and after the operation, they gave me N50,000. I have not gone for robbery operation before now; I am into oil bunkering in Arepo along Lagos Ibadan expressway, a community in Ogun state. I know they were robbers when the contracted me to use my speed boat to convey them through the waterways to Lekki. I make money from oil bunkering between N50,000- N80,000 each time I go to work" he said.

A letter to Onyx Godwin (Effeminacy & Masculinity) by LIB reader

Posted: 13 May 2015 07:57 AM PDT

A LIB reader Mayowa Aboah (pictured above) writes an open letter to Onyx Godwin. Read below...
This letter is not to support Onyx or mock him in anyway but to let LIBers and the general public face the fact that some people were born this way and more are still coming. Effeminacy in men and masculinity in women is something we encounter regularly in our society. We see them in buses, on the road side, churches, mosques, television, schools. etc. They are everyhwhere, you can't escape it. Effeminacy in men and masculinity in women are no doubt associated with homosexuality which i think its normal for people to think so.
But it should also be noted that certainly not all homosexual people give evidence of these characteristics. Some just got luckier than some, so dont be too quick to judge. Have you ever asked yourself why anybody would choose to be effeminate in a world that makes life miserable for effeminate people? Think about it. These people are not mad.

They were born the normal way just like you and i, They have blood running through their viens. So why mock them? The real manhood or womanhood is not measured in superficial things like the way we pronounce words, how we throw a ball, or how we cross our legs and i guess that was why Onyx was able to get the job he was interviewed for. God created us to be social creatures.

As Christians ,Muslims & Others, we should be above being advocates of societal stereotypes of "real men" and "real women". we should appreciate the wonderful diversity that God has created in us. It's not their fault they were created that way so why not just accept them and let the world rest. I know of Influencial people in Politics and in the Entertainment industry who are effeminate, blooming in their careers and touching lives.

Isn't that the essence of life? So why the headache. Is it untill they start commiting sucide? Lets rise above hate. Its not like we are staying on earth forever. We will all die and all these things wont matter again. Let me stop here because LIBers dont like reading long stories. Lol.

Onyx, live your life biko. Mayowa Aboah .

Universal Energy announces commercial oil production at Stubb Creek

Posted: 13 May 2015 10:01 AM PDT

Universal Energy Resources Ltd ("Universal Energy") is pleased to announce the commencement of crude oil production from its Stubb Creek Field in Akwa Ibom, following approval to embark on delivery of oil through Exxon Mobil's Qua Iboe Terminal, which came on-stream in early Feb.2015.

With this achievement, Universal Energy has joined the league of marginal oil field producing companies in Nigeria, having successfully completed the construction of an Early Production Facility and building of the necessary 23 km pipeline from the Stubb Creek Field to Exxon Mobil's Qua Iboe Terminal to enable evacuation and delivery.

Commercial oil production from the Stubb Creek Field is at an initial gross rate of 2,000 bpd with plans to increase the processing capacity to 8,000 bpd.

Commenting on this milestone, Bassey Umoh, Managing Director, Universal Energy, said Universal Energy has achieved a major milestone in the long term development plan for the Stubb Creek Field; that is first oil from this marginal field. The marginal field round was executed with the aim of enabling domestic companies to bring smaller marginal fields on-stream and we are proud to have achieved this.
As a team, Universal Energy wishes to ‎express sincere appreciation and thanks to everyone who provided support and significantly contributed to the successful completion of the Stubb Creek Early Production Facility Project in Unyenge, Mbo Local Government Area; from conceptualisation, through to development and achieving first oil delivery. Particular thanks to our esteemed Board Chairman and Members, Seven Energy International Limited (which owns 62.5% equity interest in Universal Energy), other shareholders, our Joint Venture Technical Partner - Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration & Production Company (Nigeria) Ltd and the current Universal Energy management team and our retired and serving staff. We also value the immense contribution of Universal Energy project team and the numerous contractors, suppliers and vendors that have all played a part in the accomplishment of this goal in the development journey of the Stubb Creek Field.

Universal Energy appreciates the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its functionaries, the Akwa Ibom State Government, relevant Government Regulatory Agencies including Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEN), Federal Ministry of Trade and Industry (FMTI), Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) Commercial Division, Nigeria Content Development Management Board (NCDMB), as well as Nigeria Security Agencies. Lastly but most importantly, we would like to commend our host communities in Akwa Ibom State for their support in creating a conducive environment for our operations and granting us access to operate in the immediate and outer communities.

We would like to offer our assurance that Universal Energy will continue to uphold the Industry Best Practices while carrying out its operations and in accordance with the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
