Youth Corps member Shevry Onaiwu dies in car accident Posted: 18 May 2015 10:16 AM PDT So sad! His friends wanted me to share this. Rest in Peace, Shevry. Read what his friend wrote below Nobody would ever believe a boy like Shevry Onaiwu filled with life will ever leave so soon. A boy whose dream was to become the best Civil Engineer, a boy whose dream was to make sure he leave a legacy, a hard working Ex Ambrose Ali university student who left the school with obviously one of the best grades in Civil Engineering, Ekpoma was lost to the cold hands of death in a rude shock that got everybody who knew him perplexed, sad and thrown into mourning. He finished and was posted to Abuja for NYSC and got himself a decent job. He got involved in an accident while going to work on a certain morning which took his life some weeks later. He is the nicest and most simplest person ever. They call him Shevry Oniawu, I call him Chief because of his Carriage. he was a dedicated LIB reader too. Rest in peace my brother and friend. On behalf of class 2013(Civil Engineering), friends and corp members I say R.I.P my brother. Savings and Investing: Tips on How to Make Investment Decisions Posted: 18 May 2015 10:13 AM PDT There are many ways in which you can invest your money – it could be by simply opening a savings account which pays you interest, by putting your money in a fixed deposit account, investing in treasury bills, buying shares in a business or buying property. The investment option which you go with will depend on a number of things, including how much you have, when you need your money, and sometimes, how much risk you are willing to take. Let's talk about Savings and Investments, and how to make investment decisions. Before you can decide where and how to invest your money, you must first ask yourself a few questions:
Let us look at these questions one by one: 1. What do I need to achieve? This could be anything, from payment of children's school fees, to payment of house rent, to buying a new car or even a down payment for a mortgage loan. 2. How much do I need? Calculate how much you need to achieve the projects you listed in your answer to question one. 3. When do I need to achieve this? When you know the time period in which you need the money, this will help you decide what kind of investment you want to make, whether it is a short term investment or a long term one. 4. How much do I need to save from time to time to achieve what I set out to do? To answer this question, you have to think about your answers to the last two questions – that is 'How much do I need?' and 'When do I need this money?' I will explain with an example. Let's say that you need N360, 000 (Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira only) to pay for your house rent which is due in a year's time. This means that you need to put away N30, 000 (Thirty Thousand Naira only) every month to be able to pay your rent without difficulty in the New Year. You can decide to put your monthly N30, 000 (Thirty Thousand Naira only) in a savings account which gives you interest. You will then see that you will not need to put aside up to N30, 000 (Thirty Thousand Naira only) every month because your interest will take care of that part of your savings contribution. If you already have some other lump sum of money in savings, you can also put that money in a fixed deposit account that will also earn you interest and help you contribute to your rent savings. Having savings and investments will help you make money from the money that you already have. It is appropriate to speak to a financial advisor to see what type of investment works best for you. One last thing, to be able to save and invest, you must be disciplined financially. Remember; always put aside a portion of what you earn or make as savings. Once you have done that, you can then go ahead and spend from the balance. We’ll resume our struggle if Buhari 'draws first blood' - Asari Dokubo Posted: 18 May 2015 10:14 AM PDT Ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo says he and other militants will resume their struggle for the region should the Buhari administration "draw the first Blood". Asari said this while speaking at the Annual Major Isaac Adaka Boro's Memorial Public Event which held yesterday May 17th. "Yes, a new government begins in Nigeria and a next phase of our struggle shall begin also. Jonathan Goodluck Presidency was like a restraining order now that restraint is lifted. However, we will watch and wait, let them draw the first blood and we shall determine our best way forward. Truly Nigeria will never be the same again the future is pregnant.
According to him, their struggle and agitation was never about to become the President of Nigeria but about freedom from what he described as "false and forced colonial union" "He, Jonathan Goodluck, was never in the struggle. He was not a product of the struggle but an establishment beneficiary of our struggle. Our struggle is not and never about becoming the president. It was not about being awarded oil licenses and mouth-watering contracts. It was not about massive infrastructural development of the Niger Delta Region. It was not about high scale appointments employment and empowerment. It was never about interventionist programmes and projects. Our struggle indeed is about our collective freedom from a false and forced colonial union that has remained divided and un-integrated. It is about our being conferred a slave status and seen as a conquered people who must exist at the mercy of the overloads and supremacist class using our own brothers as taskmasters against us in a Nigerian union. Our status in the Nigerian enterprise remains that of a conquered people living a slave and prisoners status. This is the collective identity we have as a people. Whether you are rich, poor, high, low, big, mighty or small, no matter how well dressed, well fed a slave or a prisoner his, he remains a slave and a prisoner who constantly lives at the mercy and dictates of others with his contributions and consent of no consequence. This is why we must now than ever stand up like the Scottish to determine our going forward for our platforms and reject our oppressors. This will not come easy"he said.
Michigan couple with 12 sons welcomes their 13th son Posted: 18 May 2015 10:07 AM PDT Kateri and Jay Schwandt, a Rockford, Michigan, couple who have 12 sons, welcomed their 13th boy to the world on Wednesday. Kateri, 40, gave birth a few days after her May 9 due date, according to ABC News. The baby weighed about 9 lbs (4.08kg) and was 22 inches long. "I just assumed we'd have another boy because we know what we're doing," she said at the time." It turns out she was right. The couples' other children range in age from 1 1/2 to 22 years old. They named their 13th son Francisco. The couple observes a tradition of waiting until birth to find out the sex of their babies. Although Jay told ABC that " having one more boy is pretty cool," he had hoped for a girl. "I've experienced all the boy stuff, as long as we are having all these children, it would be really neat to experience the other side." Kateri saw things differently. "Why change things up?" She said "At this point, at this stage in the game, a little girl, we'd have to re-learn everything." They have a 15 seater van to take their children everywhere and fortunately their oldest son just got his driver's license so he can help out with driving the children to places. The odds of a couple having 13 sons in a row are about 1 in 8,000, according to CNN -- roughly the same chances as those of having natural triplets. The Dad said even he desperately wants a girl, they don't intend to try for another child anytime soon. Congratulations to them.

Every time I hear the song, the picture of my mum just comes to mind. The thing is I honestly think Beyoncé sang the song about her. Lol. Her skin is all so yummy. I constantly ask her how she got her beautiful skin and the response is always- "Babygirl, you need to treat your skin well ". She enjoys going to spa. She's never missed her weekly routines. I was so curious and wanted to know what exactly happens there. I accompanied her to the spa one day. Oh wow, it was so beautiful and well organised. I think this was when my dream came to birth. I knew what exactly I wanted to study in the University. I started following my mum because I needed to know how the whole business was put to place. OH MY GOD !. I finally struck a Gold mine. I overheard the spa owner telling one of her clients about the Swiss Hotel Management School. I went on google and began researching. It was interesting to see a school that teaches Spa Management. I was finally going to achieve my dreams. I remember all this as I pack my bags and get ready to go to Switzerland. My dreams would actually come through all thanks to the Swiss Education Group. Gbemi said she decided to start her own line due to her personal challenges getting the right shoe sizes here and abroad. "It's quite tough for women like me who wear UK size 9 and up, to find nice shoes. Most stores don't carry such big sizes, and when they do, they sell out quickly. After complaining for years, I decided to create a line to make life easier for women like me who have bigger feet. I meet women every time who have the same challenges, and I was surprised to realize no one was really doing anything about it.'Big congrats to her. See more photos after the cut... Gbémisókè is now available on online stores Jumia and Konga. 'When a woman has good shoes on, a nice and comfortable pair, she's confident, sure of herself. She on top of the world.' 'I've been asked why the shoes are so affordable. But truly, I didn't want to make a luxury line. There are many brands doing that already. I know a lot of Nigerians who cannot afford luxury items. So I wanted something that solves the big feet problem, something very fashionable, and something very affordable. I'm happy we're able to achieve all three with Gbémisókè. 9 bloggers killed by Islamists in Bangladesh Posted: 18 May 2015 07:02 AM PDT In Bangladesh, Islamists made a list of 84 secular and atheist bloggers to be killed. So far they have killed 9 of them. Many others attacked. These bloggers, who are against Islamist fundamentalism, have been forced - out of fear - to close their blogs and social media accounts. Many have fled. From PRI.org Ananta Bijoy Das (pictured left), the third blogger to be killed in Bangladesh since the beginning of this year, was hacked to death near his home in broad day light Tuesday morning. He wrote about reason and science, about evolution theory," says Asif Mohiuddin (right), a close friend of Das. "He translated books into Bengali." Mohiuddin, who now lives in Germany, was a blogger in Bangladesh himself, until he was attacked and fled, fearing for his life. He recalls being targeted and harassed for challenging Islamic ideas.
A few years ago, Islamic hardliners asked for a law to be passed to stop these bloggers from writing. "They made a hit list of secularist and atheist bloggers," Mohiuddin says. "There are 84 bloggers on that list. All of them are under attack. Now nine of them are dead and many of them were attacked." According to Mohuiddin, the attackers are members of a hardline Islamist group with connections to al-Qaeda in Yemen. "They are targeting people who are free thinkers, who are secularists, who are against Islamist fundamentalism," he says. As for the Bangladeshi government, Mohiuddin says it's not doing much to protect bloggers. In some cases, it even arrests and harasses them. Mohuiddin was arrested by the government for his writings and spent more than three months in jail. "The picture is very clear. The government is on their side," he says. Mohuiddin says life for bloggers on the hit list is getting more difficult by the day. He believes there is a good chance they will all end up dead — or forced to leave the country. Many have closed down their blogs and social media accounts. Given the circumstances, Mohuiddin worries about the future in his country. "I don't see many people left to write about freedom of expression in Bangladesh," he says.
