A woman has since Saturday, May 16, 2015 been found lying abandoned and helpless on Iwaya Road, Onike, Yaba, Lagos. She is currently opposite the Deeper Life Bible Church which also shares fence with PHCN. On Sunday, May 17th, when it became obvious that she was motionless, concerned people in the neighborhood called emergency lines 112 and 767, luckily the calls were picked and they promised to do something about it but up till now (Wednesday) the woman is still there without any intervention from any government agency despite all the calls and the promises made.
Concerned people in the neighborhood also put a mosquito net around the woman to reduce the harmful effect of mosquitoes pending when the responsible government agency steps in. The Deeper Life Bible Church reported the matter at Iwaya Police Station on Sunday, May 17thand some other group reported at the Sabo Police Station on Wednesday, May 20th, 2015. Though the Police visited the scene, tried to interrogate the woman but she could neither move nor talk and at the end, the Police said there was NOTHING they could do. They however, stated that the community should be responsible for taking her to the hospital.
We hereby use this opportunity to call on family members, friends, concerned Nigerians, responsible government agencies to arise and come to the help of this woman.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its 399th meeting today, Wednesday,  May 20, 2015 received and accepted the voluntary resignation of the National Chairman of our great party Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu. 
Consequently, in line with the provisions of sections 45 (2) of the PDP constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus acts in place of the National Chairman pending a replacement from the North East zone.



On the correct position of the status of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, the NWC will make  its position public tomorrow, Thursday, May 21, 2015.



Furthermore, the NWC expressed complete confidence of the party in the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and commended him for his outstanding performance, exemplary commitment and sacrifices, particularly in the ways and manner with which he conducts the affairs of the Publicity Directorate in projecting the positive image of the party and its government.



Meanwhle, the NWC has set up a seven-man disciplinary committee headed by Chief Micheal Addul with members comprising of Chief Mike Ogiadohme, Senator Teslim Folarin, Dr. Akilu Indabawa, Dr. Hassan Kafayas, Barr Nonye Nwangwu while Barr. Tony Caesar Okeke serves as Secretary. The Committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday, May 26, 2015at the National Secretariat.



Finally, the NWC called for calm and the understanding of all members and other critical stakeholders including the media at this time of reengineering process in our great party while directing any member with genuine grievance to channel such through the appropriate organs.

Nigerian ​Military evacuate​s​ 275 rescued women, children ​​from​ camp

The military has evacuated the rescued 275 women and children from the Malkohi Camp, near Yola. The women and children were recently rescued from the Sambisa forest by the military. The women and children were brought to the Malkohi Camp about three weeks ago by the military who handed them over to the National Emergency Management Agency.


The NEMA Camps Coordinator in Yola, Sa'ad Bello, confirmed that the women and children have been evacuated from the camp but said he could not say where the military took them to. Mr. Bello said the evacuation of the IDPs was purely a military affair which he could not comment on.

Efforts to get the military's reaction on the development did not yield results.

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton today signed a new 3-year deal with Mercedes worth in the region of 100million pounds. That means he will be making around £641,000 a week.

Mercedes unveiled the news that the 30-year-old, whose contract was due to expire at the end of this season, would be remaining with the team on the eve of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

Hamilton has signed a three-year deal which will keep him at the British-based outfit until the end of the 2018 campaign. The double world champion will also become Britain's highest-paid sportsman. 



Hamilton's new contract is worth £100million over three years. He will become Britain's highest-paid sportsman...

Buhari is inheriting the worst economy in Nigeria's history- Osinbajo

Vice President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo says the incoming government will be inheriting an economy that is currently in perhaps its worst moment in Nigeria's history. Professor Osinbajo said this during the opening of a two-day policy dialogue on the implementation of the agenda for change in Abuja today May 20th.
"We are concerned that our economy is currently in perhaps its worst moment in history. Local and international debt stands at $60 billion. Our debt servicing bill for 2015 is N953.6 billion, about 21 per cent of our Budget. On account of severely dwindled resources, over two-thirds of the states in Nigeria owe salaries. Federal institutions are not in much better shape. Today, the nation borrows to fund recurrent expenditure.
The figures of extreme poverty in our society- 110 million by current estimates- makes it clear that our biggest national problem is the extreme poverty of the majority. Thus, no analysis is required to conclude that dealing with poverty and its implications is a priority. In the course of the election campaign, we ran an issues-based campaign that identified certain areas of public policy as high priorities for propelling Nigeria forward. We addressed the challenges of the economy, insecurity, corruption and jobs creation. We spoke on the challenge of providing opportunities for self-actualization to millions of our young people who face an uncertain future with understandable anxiety. We also addressed the challenge of providing for the most vulnerable segments of our population by equipping them with the tools to emerge from the crippling limitations of poverty to achieve dignified and productive citizenship. This is also against the backdrop of a highly unequal society in which, by some reckoning, the largest chunk of the benefits of our national wealth accrues to a small percentage of our population. Our manifesto offered a vision of shared prosperity and socio-economic inclusion for all Nigerians, that leaves no one behind in the pursuit of a prosperous and fulfilling life. Our goal this morning is to interrogate these positions and propositions before a wider audience and to launch a robust public conversation on policy directions and priorities that will help inform our administration's approach in the next four years. This forum exemplifies the sort of consultative and consensual approach to policy-making that our party and the new administration intend to model in office."he said

Former President Obasanjo says the outcome of the recent Presidential election in Nigeria has proved to African leaders that securing a second term in office 'is no longer a right.'

He said this at a press conference organized as part of events to mark African Day in Berlin Germany yesterday. According to Obasanjo, Nigeria has gotten it right this time around with this election.
"The peoples wish prevailed. I am proud to say it here that Nigeria got it right this time around. The elections may not have been perfect, but it was a reflection of the people's wish. Even where there were manipulations, it did not affect the results.
Attempts to rig did not yield any positive results. I think with what happened, people will no longer be eager to manipulate elections. When we started PDP many people thought and even voiced it, that the party will rule forever, but look at it today. It is only 16 years down the road and the PDP is already an opposition party" he said.

Two cousins of President Jonathan reportedly kidnapped in Bayelsa

Two cousins of President Jonathan, Patience Egbeni and Kate Eni were kidnapped by 6 unidentified gunmen dressed in military uniform in Akimpelai, Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State yesterday May 19th.

According to a source who spoke with The Nation, the women who are maternal cousins of President Jonathan were abducted at about 8.30am from their provision stores located along the riverbank.
"The victims are two maternal cousins of the President. We know that they have been preparing to welcome the President after the May 29 handover. Unless they are rescued before then, their dream of welcoming their brother will be a mirage."the source said
Confirming the incident, the Bayelsa state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Butswat Asinim, said the gunmen were dressed in military camouflage.
"The gunmen were dressed in military camouflage. They went to the provision stores of the victims at the riverside and abducted them into a waiting speedboat," he said.
He said the marine and anti-kidnapping squad of the police, including the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield, had been contacted and are working towards their rescue.

Prosecutors drops murder charges against Kano child-bride

The murder charges against 15-year-old Wasila Tasi'u, the child bride who poisoned and killed her 35-year-old husband, Umar Sani, and four others, was dropped by prosecutors at a high court in Kano today Wednesday May 20th.

Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki, a Prosecutor in the case filed against her, asked the presiding judge at the High Court in Gezawa, Kano state, to 'terminate the case of culpable homicide against Wasila Tasi'u'. "With a heavy heart, I apply that the accused be discharged." he said

Legal sources in Kano said the court had been under serious pressure from human rights groups and the international community to drop the case since she had been married against her will at age 14.

Prosecutors had been seeking the death penalty for Wasila.

Josephine Ugwu, the honest airport cleaner who found and returned $27,000 (N5.4 m) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in January this year, was presented a plaque and a cash gift of N30,000 by the Nigerian Orientation Agency NOA in Abuja on Monday May 18th. The DG of NOA, Mike Omeri presented the award to her and appreciated her for her honesty. Josephine while showing appreciation for the award and cash gift, appealed for a better job.

Bola's Dirge is an avant-garde short film about the struggle of a young woman through poverty and the circumstances that led her to make poor choices. It's a different take on the typical story of the prostitute with the 'heart of gold', breaking the fourth wall and urging the audience to engage with the film's central character- a troubled, troublesome and strong-willed young woman.
