| Photos: Nigerian woman amongst rescued immigrants gives birth on one of the boats Posted: 05 May 2015 12:55 PM PDT   Over the weekend and on Monday, about 7,000 illegal immigrants were rescued from overcrowded boats crossing the Mediterranean into Italy. One of the migrants was a pregnant Nigerian woman. The woman went into labour while being rescued from a boat and gave birth to a baby girl. The baby has been named Francesca Marina as a tribute to the Italian Navy (Marina Militare). Crew from the Italian navy ship Bettica found the Nigerian woman in labour on a boat – one of 34 vessels intercepted over the weekend. This photo above (left) released by the Italian navy shows the baby girl sleeping in a makeshift cradle decorated with a pink bow. Numbers risking the journey in search of a better life have continued to rise two weeks after as many as 900 people drowned in the worst Mediterranean shipwreck in living memory.           |

| Photo: Woman bites employees ear over salary in Lagos Posted: 05 May 2015 09:14 AM PDT  According to PM News, the victim Nkemakolam, a graduate of Business Administration from the Lagos State Polythecnic LASPOTECH was recruited as a manager in Mrs Adeiekwe's hotel located at 38 Olusesi Street in Ikotun, Lagos some months back and was placed on a salary of N25,000. She worked in the establishment for some months without pay and was fired unexpectedly by her boss. She was however given a specific date to come for her salary arrears. Nkemakolam said when she went to see her former boss for her salary, she got angry and engaged her in a fight and in the process bit off her ear. She was taken to the Igando General Hospital with the piece of ear that fell off but before they reached the hospital the piece of ear was already dead and doctors said it could not be stitched back. The matter was reported to the Ikotun Police Division and Mrs Adeiekwe was arrested and charged with three-count charge of felony, assault and wounding under the Criminal Code. She was however granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The matter suffered several adjournments because Adeiekwe refused to show up for trial. When the matter came up again on Monday May 4th, Adeiekwe did not show up and her counsel informed the court that they want to settle the matter out of court by paying the victim N25,000 being her salary and medical bills. The presiding magistrate, Mr M.B Folami insisted that the defendant must appear in court and explain why she won't face trial. The matter was adjourned till 1 June, 2015. |

| Pres Jonathan appoints new executive secretaries for PEF & NCDMB Posted: 05 May 2015 08:53 AM PDT   President Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mrs. Asabe Asmau Ahmed (left) as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF). Mrs. Ahmed, who is currently the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, takes over from Mrs. Sharon Adefunke Kasali (right) who has been Executive Secretary of PEF since 2007. The new PEF Executive Secretary hails from Niger State and holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, respectively.She is expected to put her years of experience in public service to good use in re-engineering, repositioning and re-invigorating PEF for present and future challenges. President Jonathan has similarly approved the appointment of Mr. Denzil Amagbe Kentebe as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Management Development Board (NCDMB). Mr. Kentebe, an architect with years of experience in strategic planning and policy management, takes over from Engineer Ernest Nwapa who has been Executive Secretary of the NCDMB since April 2010. Apparently a guy drove Hummer 2 SUV into Harmony Estate, Ifako, Gbagada, Lagos this morning to steal brain box, window controls of cars. Story below.. From the estate security, for the past 2 years, residents who park their cars...usually Toyotas come back from work to discover their brain boxes, power window controls, sometimes head lights, gone. Though not often, maybe once in 3/4 months. But its always more than 4 cars. The security guys said they notice that complaints are made usually on days this Hummer jeep visits the estate. So this morning around 7, you know workers in Lagos would have gone to work and those without fuel would leave the cars - the hummer jeep came in and the security guys started tailing just to know where this guy normally visits. Obviously when they saw where he parked, they were OK only for them to see him on another street later The guy parked on the last street in the estate then trekked back to the upper streets to rob. After getting a little beating, the police was called. Our police are still barbaric. Used gun butt on the guys head, chained his hands tightly to the back with chain and padlock and gave him additional beating before driving his hummer away |

| G-Unit member's girlfriend claims he beat her, releases photos of her battered face Posted: 05 May 2015 07:47 AM PDT  I decided to speak up today because i finally built the courage to walk away from domestic violence. somebody who is violent and not in control of there emotions is not at all your problem and you are not there as punching bag for whatever crises that he may be going through, which im guily in i made excuses for many months hiding behind the pain trying to be a goid woman and continue to "hold it down" as hundreds of women probably have done or maybe still going through. My eyes opened last night when nearly lost my life in our vegas hotel room last night being strangled to death nearly not breathing while im being chocked looking straight at the man i loved unconditionally for 7 moths straight whilst he strangling me. Yes he did it before but i and yes i was stupid in thinking because i didnt loose my breathe i took it as its just a mistake i no he loves me     |

| 10 persons remanded in prison over Ejigbo pepper sodomy Posted: 05 May 2015 07:10 AM PDT  The remanded persons are Isiaka Waidi, 61; Saheed Adisa, 29; Lateef Tijani, 37; Ahmed Adisa, 65; Azeez Akinosun, 36; Jimoh Busari, 50; Adekunle Adenuga, 38; Oloruntoyin Dauda, 46; Buhari Yusuf, 22; and Abdullahi Haruna, 20. The court presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye Justice held that the accused persons inserted sticks into the vagina of Nike Salami and Juliana Agomo. They also assaulted one Ajoke Agomo by stripping her naked, beating her up and rubbing pepper all over her body. |
