He's becoming a global icon. Former President Goodluck Jonathan rounded off his two week visit to the United states with a rousing speech to students of the Howard University School of Political Science, where he addressed the future leaders on the skills needed for responsible leadership.

President Jonathan along with US Congresswoman Karen Bass who is the ranking member on the Sub-committee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights were the special guests at the university event entitled, 'Elections and constitutions in Africa: A Timely issue.' Jonathan encouraged the youths to embrace civil education stressing that such knowledge would help sustain democracies, and equip youths with the relevant tools that they need to become responsible citizens.

The former President's speech touched on various aspects of leadership and Jonathan further expressed his pleasure for the opportunity to speak at the same Howard University that educated Nigeria's first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

He thanked the institution for the culture of instilling democratic culture in youths. He further described Africa as the "bright continent adding that stability and good governance are key factors
for peace and development on the continent.

Man leaves Thai waitress working legally in the US a 'disgusting' racist message as a 'tip'

Posted: 21 Nov 2015 08:15 AM PST

People have rallied around a waitress that was left a 'disgusting' racist message and no tip on a receipt recently by a diner. The man had a meal by himself at the Bamboo Thai Bistro in Redondo Beach and was served by a Thai waitress, who has a visa to work in the US. When it was time to pay the bill, the man - named on the receipt as Jason Paul Naglich - left nothing, instead writing: 'Tip for U.S. citizens only.' How sad!

Locals have shown out in support of the woman. Someone left a 50 per cent tip in an effort to, in his words, 'make up for the poor attitude of that other gentleman'. Another person also left a $10 bill and a note reading: 'Sorry you had to deal with that sad man.'

Assassination attempt on Ekweremadu- PDP suffering from induced Hallucination- APC

Posted: 21 Nov 2015 08:13 AM PST

The leadership of APC has described as "induced hallucination" the allegations leveled against it by PDP that the party was planning to kill some PDP leaders including its acting National Chairman, Uche Secondus, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu amongst others.

PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh while addressing newsmen at Legacy House in Abuja on November 18th accused APC of plotting to kill some of their key members following the attempted assassination of Ike Ekweremadu on November 17th.

In a statement by Timi Frank, the acting national publicity secretary of the APC described PDP's allegation that APC was behind the attempt on Mr. Ekweremadu's life as "induced hallucination".

In the statement, Frank stated that it was unfortunate that the PDP had resorted to cheap blackmail. He said the past 16 years of PDP's rule saw a minister, Bola Ige, politicians like Harry Marshall and Funso Williams assassinated with no attempt to unravel the mysteries that surrounded their deaths.
"It would therefore, be unfortunate for the PDP to elevate this strategic act it had perfected over the years to a political art or a propaganda tool,'' the statement read.

First Lady of Zimbabwe, Grace Mugagbe faces backlash after shocking comment

Posted: 21 Nov 2015 08:06 AM PST

While addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters at a rally in Mberengwa this week, the First lady of Zimbabwe Grace Mugagbe said women who wear mini skirts have no one but themselves to blame if they are raped by sexual perverts.
"If you walk around wearing mini skirts displaying your thighs and inviting men to drool over you, then you want to complain when you have been raped? It's unfortunate because it will be your fault."
Lol. What a daft statement! The First Lady then called on women to wear long dresses or trousers. She said the type of dressing, which left women's legs exposed, was a result of moral decadence.

Mark Zuckerberg to take 2 months paternity leave when daughter arrives

Posted: 21 Nov 2015 04:31 AM PST

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is planning to take two months off for paternity leave when his daughter is born. The excited father-to-be made the announcement yesterday on his official Facebook page. The company offers its US employees four months of paid maternity and paternity leave. In the post accompanied by a photo of baby toys, seat and their dog, he said outcomes are better for children and families when working parents take time off to be with their newborns. He wrote;

"Priscilla and I are starting to get ready for our daughter's arrival. We've been picking out our favorite childhood books and toys. We've also been thinking about how we're going to take time off during the first months of her life. This is a very personal decision, and I've decided to take 2 months of paternity leave when our daughter arrives. Studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, outcomes are better for the children and families. At Facebook we offer our US employees up to 4 months of paid maternity or paternity leave which they can take throughout the year. Every day things are getting a little more real for us, and we're excited to start this next stage in our lives. Here's a photo of Beast with our baby seat. I think he knows something's up."

Dying 8-year-old cancer patient finds love

Posted: 21 Nov 2015 02:19 AM PST

When he was just 2 years old, David Spisak, Jr. was diagnosed with leukemia. Today, six years later, the Chesapeake, Virginia boy has gone through two bone marrow transplants and was diagnosed with cancer for a fourth time in March.

Although doctors told David's parents the boy would likely live only four to six weeks without treatment, they decided to forgo that recommendation so David could spend less time at the hospital and more time being an everyday kid, ABC News reported.

"We want him to experience everything we can possibly make happen!" his parents wrote on their YouCaring page.

As a result of his parents' decision, one thing he has experienced is first love.
David started second grade in September but eventually was unable to attend because of his illness, according to WTKR.com.
His mother, Amber Spisak, knew her son had a crush from class, but it was only when she and her husband saw cards from Ayla, 7, expressing how much the little girl loved and missed David that they realized how serious the children's bond was. David's classmates also wrote David about how much Ayla missed him.
"In art class, I told her (Ayla) I liked her and she just had a surprised face, so we started dating," David said, according to WKTR.com.
David's parents asked how David knew he loved Ayla, and he replied, "My heart."

Amber reached out to Ayla's mother, Angela, and they both realized how much their children had connected. They arranged a date for the kids and David called Ayla to formally ask her out, ABC News reported.

Ayla ran toward David's wheelchair when they met, ABC News reported, and later pushed it around and helped him with bowling balls. David got out of his wheelchair and walked for the first time in a month, according to WKTR.com.
"We were all so taken aback by their bond, their connection there," Spisak told ABC News. "No one else was allowed to touch him. They stayed together the entire time. His dad and I kept trying to stay close behind him to make sure he wouldn't fall, but he kept trying to be with her and taking her help. It was so natural. There was no hesitation from [either] one of them. They just wanted to be together."
