Posted: 07 Nov 2015 12:52 PM PST Chelsea this evening lost 1-0 to Stoke City at the Britannia stadium and are now languishing close to the relegation zone. For a team who won the premier league last season this is the most contrasting of tales. The Blues, with embattled manager Jose Mourinho serving a stadium ban, enjoyed the better of the game in the first period, but failed to take any of the chans that fell their way. And Austrian forward Arnautovic made Chelsea pay nine minutes into the second half when he volleyed expertly past Asmir Begovic on his return to the Britannia Stadium. The victory was, of course, not without its controversial moment; Loic Remy found himself clipped by Jack Butland as he rounded the Stoke goalkeeper five minutes from time. Instead of going to ground, the Frenchman opted to stay on his feet and, off balance, tried to score, to no avail. Referee Anthony Taylor, in initially allowing play to continue, decided against awarding Chelsea a penalty. An international break looms, the traditional sacking window for Premier League owners, and Jose Mourinho will have to wait to see whether Roman Abramovich considers him fit to continue when we resume. On Saturday he wasn't there of course, banned for his rant at referee Jon Moss two weeks ago but his presence was everywhere, from the Mourinho masks to the loud support from the Chelsea travelling fans. |
Taraba Tribunal judgement ridiculous, It can't stand before men & God - Fayose Posted: 07 Nov 2015 12:40 PM PST Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the tribunal judgement sacking the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku as a ridiculous political judgement that can never stand before men of good conscience and God. Governor Fayose, who maintained that there was a conspiracy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government and a section of the judiciary against the People's Democratic Party (PDP), called on the Supreme Court to save the country from impending anarchy. In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor wondered how a tribunal could make conduct of the PDP primary that produced Governor Ishaku in Abuja an issue when the tribunal itself sat in Abuja. He said; "How does the emergence of party candidate, which is the clear internal business of the party and a pre-election matter concern the APC and the Election Tribunal? "Isn't it funny that it is no longer about election rigging, but technicality of how PDP candidates emerged even when no one in the PDP went to court to challenge how Governor Ishaku emerged as the PDP governorship candidate? "If insecurity could make Taraba State Tribunal sit in Abuja and not in Jalingo, how then can it be justified that the same tribunal that sat in Abuja nullified the governor's election because the primary election that produced him too was held in Abuja? "Is it not being manifested in this President Mohammadu Buhari led APC government that what is good for some people may not be good for others even though we operate the same constitution? "To me and the teeming supporters of the PDP, this judgement is one that must not be allowed to stand. It is a clear miscarriage of justice and we will seek redress from the court of men and the court of God." While reiterating his commitment to speaking the truth in the overall interest of Nigerians, Governor Fayose said; "If everybody is persecuted and intimidated to submission, I will remain resolute in my resolved to always say the truth before men and God." |

Champion Pole Vaulter shows off her naked, sculpted body (photos) Posted: 07 Nov 2015 12:29 PM PST From shining in the world sporting area as an Australian pole vaulting star to having her career cruelly cut short when she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it seems there's nothing Amanda Bisk cannot conquer. But when Bisk was asked to shed both her clothes and her inhibitions so she could be painted gold from head to toe for a photoshoot, even she felt first-time jitters. 'I was nervous at first because I have never really done a photoshoot like this before,' she said. But the photos came out beautifully. See them after the cut.. |

Footballer Frank Ribery to sue CNN for $1.5m over image rights infringement with cryotherapy photo Posted: 07 Nov 2015 05:15 AM PST France and Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery is seeking $1.5 million in damages from US cable news channel CNN for using his image in a story about the death of a woman in a cryotherapy chamber, his lawyer said on Friday. CNN ran a story last month, exactly on October 28 about the death of Chelsea Ake-Salvacion, a 24-year-old American woman who was found dead in a cryotherapy tank in a Nevada spa. CNN used a photo showing Franck Ribery's head while the footballer used a similar machine, which many high-level sportsmen often do. An error on the cable network's part, as they immediately took down the picture and post but that was not enough to stop people from noticing. "It results from this publication that the photograph of Mr. Franck Ribery has been associated to a woman's death related to the cryotherapy treatment," Ribery's lawyer Carlo Alberto Brusa said. "Mr. Franck Ribery, a world-famous professional soccer player and former member of the France national soccer team, has never given his permission and consent to the use of this photograph -- and therefore of his image -- related to the aforesaid publication." Brusa said the use of the photo was an "illegal association, which constitutes an infringement of the personality rights and the French image right, is a wrongdoing for which you are responsible and which obliges you to repair all the damages suffered by Mr. Franck Ribery and his family following this morbid publication and the public reactions provoked". |

What Is Infinix Up To With the #InfinixBig6? Posted: 07 Nov 2015 04:59 AM PST It seems something big is coming from the stables of Infinix Mobility, makers of Infinix brand of smart phones and tablets. My sources tell me that the phone maker is set to redefine the smartphone ecosystem in Nigerian with a brand new product which it has codenamed #InfinixBig6. Last month, some fans of the smartphone brand were privileged to test the device and the feedback, was very positive. I hear that some pictures from the#InfinixBig6's back camera, the packaging and the new UI – XUI – have been revealed on some social media sites.I also understand thatthe phone will be available for purchase on Friday, November 27, which happens to be Black Friday. Some of the features of the phone, I am told, will include a unique curved shape to make for comfortable handling, stunning camera and I am reliably informed the screen will be bigger than the Infinix Hot Note. And there's even more. The phone is expected to come with Infinix's new interface, the XUI, which offers faster screen responsiveness, inspirational features and is energy efficient. Following its entry into the Nigerian market 3 years ago, Infinix Mobility has carved a niche for herself as a foremost smartphone brand in the country with affordable high-end spec phones. Three months ago, Infinix Mobility launched the Infinix HOT 2, the first Android One smartphone in Africa. The phone turned out to be a hit with over 200,000 units sold in Nigeria only. November 27 is just two weeks away. We are expecting to see what the fuss about the #InfinixBig6's is.Until then, we will keep our fingers crossed. |

Photo: Day-old baby sold for N50,000 in Lagos Posted: 07 Nov 2015 11:10 AM PST The Lagos state police command has arrested a midwife identified as Virginia Nwauzor that works with the Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCC), situated at First Gate, along First Avenue in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos, for allegedly working with a child trafficking syndicate to sell off a day old baby boy born by a 19yr old girl named Chinyere Amechi. The Sun reports that Chinyere fled her parents home over a year ago and got pregnant by her boyfriend named Nonso Namba. When she gave birth to her baby, she sold him to the midwife for N50,000 who in turn a sold him to a 51-year-old member of the syndicate, Mrs. Rose Ekewe. Trouble started after Chinyere returned home to her parents who welcomed her. She told them of a baby she had but later died. After much interrogation, Chinyere confessed to her parents that she gave her son to a nurse at the hospital where she gave birth. The police was contacted and the midwife, her colleague Rose Ezekwe and Chinyere's boyfriend were arrested and have been in detention. When interrogated, the midwife said she decided to help Chinyere after she claimed she was a destitute and needed a home to keep the child once he was born. Upon delivery, she took Chinyere and the new born child to the house of her friend, Mrs. Ekewe who was living alone in Satellite town. She claimed that it was her friend who gave N50,000 to the Chinyere to assist her since she was a destitute. The amount, she said, was meant to help her get an accommodation and start up a little business. When the police asked Mrs. Ekewe the whereabouts of the baby that was left in her care, she confessed that she handed the baby over to a childless couple since she could not afford to take care of the child. She promised to help the police trace the couple whom she sold the baby to. One of the hospital staff who spoke on condition of anonymity said "We were surprised that the young lady who never attended ante-natal in the hospital was suddenly admitted. No one understood why Mrs. Atuanya (as she is known by colleagues) suddenly developed interest in the case and was personally running around to ensure that all that was needed during delivery was provided. Even when she delivered, the woman kept saying that she has no money nor family member to come and pay the hospital bill. We were still contemplating what to do to her when we learnt that an anonymous person had paid her bills. Everybody was surprised and even asked her how she did it and she explained that it was God that sent a helper her way. It was when the police stormed the hospital with the mother of the child that we understood why she was so nice to the woman," the source said. The search is now on for the couple that bought the child from the midwife's friend. |
