Rep denies nominatiing ghost names for amnesty programme Posted: 06 Nov 2015 12:04 PM PST The Office of Rt. Hon. Mutu Nicholas Ebomo wishes to clear the air on the rumor making rounds that the member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representative Rt. Hon. Mutu Nicholas Ebomo nominated ghost names for the amnesty programme. I Barr. Ebitimi Ogbomah legislative aide to Rt. Hon. Mutu Nicholas states and clarifies that there are two committees in the House of Reps responsible for the oversight of Niger Delta affairs/issues, they are the committee on Niger Delta Development Commission and the Committee on Niger Delta. The committee on Niger Delta Development commission which was chaired by Hon. Mutu Nicholas was responsible for the oversight of the NDDC and it had nothing to do with the ministry of Niger Delta and the Amnesty programme. While the committee on Niger Delta oversight the ministry of Niger Delta and the amnesty program. I wish to state further that Hon. Mutu Nicholas has never been given any slot or nomination in the amnesty program by either the office of the SA on amnesty program or any other person and as such his constituents have never benefited from the amnesty programme through him. I wish to also state here that Hon. Mutu Nicholas is known for his generosity and as such if given slots or nominations for the amnesty program, he will never hesitate to give it out to his constituents. This clarification becomes necessary as a result of the unfounded lies being circulated concerning the purported ghost names in the amnesty programme. |

Photographer wants couples to ban smart phones at their wedding Posted: 06 Nov 2015 08:44 AM PST An irate photographer has taken a shot at trigger happy guests who wield their smartphones at weddings, taking 'crap' pictures and 'ruining' official photographs. Thomas Stewart, from NSW, wrote a long rant on his Facebook page, accusing wedding guests of being too eager to flash their iPhones and iPads instead of enjoying the moment. He said pictures taken by guests were 'usually crap' anyway, and wedding ceremonies should be technology-free and 'completely unplugged'. Lol 'They [guests] have no idea how to stay out of our way. They often ruin many of our shots. They will make our photos worse,' he said in his Facebook diatribe. 'You decide to take a quick glance towards your guests as you're sure they're sharing these happy moments with you, possibly even shedding a tear of their own. What do you see? NO FACES AT ALL AS THEY ARE ALL HIDDEN BEHIND PHONES AND CAMERAS!''Imagine you're in the middle of your wedding ceremony. You're elated,' Mr Stewart continued. |

Photos: Meet Khadija, the girl born without a face Posted: 06 Nov 2015 08:31 AM PST Khadija Khatoon Khadija, 21, from Kolkata, West Bengal, Eastern India, was born without a face and her mouth is a small slit on the left side of her face. When she was born, concerned doctors were baffled by her condition for months. Although it has never been confirmed, they believe she has a form of neurofibromatosis, a rare deformity that causes tumours to grow along nerves. Medics told Khadija and her family there was nothing they could do after extra skin continued to grow out of control. "She was born at home but she didn't open her eyes. She was born with thick heavy eyelids and she looked different to my other children at birth but we didn't think anything of it until we realised she couldn't open her eyes properly." hermother Amina Bibi,50, said. "When we took her to the hospital she was admitted for six months and they did lots of tests but doctors eventually told us there was nothing they could do. Because the doctors told us there was nothing they could do we never went back to them. And as Khadija got older she refused any help. Doctors told us when she was a baby that if she attempted surgery she could die, so we have lived with that fear. Now that Khadija is much older she has decided herself that she doesn't want to have surgery. She doesn't want to risk dying." Khadija said: "I'm made this way and I accept it graciously. I do what I can. If this is how I'm meant to be then I live with it. It's not a matter of coping, I just live as I am" She continued: "I don't have any real friends but I have my family. My family is my only friend and I love them dearly. My parents are my world. I don't talk to strangers. This is who I am and this is the life I live and I fill my days sitting and thinking, talking to my mother about life and going for walks near my home. I like drinking tea. I am happy in this life" "If only the government would see my position and help me, I would like that" Dr Anirban Deep Banerjee, a neurosurgeon from Apollo Hospital, Kolkata, said: "I believe she is suffering from Neurofibromatosis but to confirm we would need to do a gene test. There's a possibility she has a tumour inside her face which could be fatal. Right now there is no way of knowing if she has tumour inside the extra skin and if left they could kill her." "If she's willing we would need to do a lot of tests to determine how successful surgery would be." Source: Daily Star |

Celebrate Your Orijins- Benin Bronzes Posted: 06 Nov 2015 08:09 AM PST Orijin your bittersweet alcoholic blend with the extracts of African herbs and fruits. In the spirit of independence, we acknowledge some of the greatest civilizations that have ever been seen in Africa. The Benin Bronzes are a group of more than a thousand commemorative metal plaques that decorated the royal palace of the Benin Kingdom in modern-day Nigeria. Collectively, the Bronzes form the best known examples of Benin art, created by the Edo people from the thirteenth century, which also included other sculptures in brass or bronze, including some famous portrait heads and smaller pieces. In 1897, most of the plaques were removed by the British during a punitive expedition to the area as imperial control was being consolidated in Southern Nigeria. Two hundred of the pieces were taken to the British Museum in London, while the rest were purchased by other European museums. Today, a large number are held by the British Museum. Other notable collections are in Germany and the United States. The Benin Bronzes led to a greater appreciation in Europe of African culture and art. The metal pieces were made using lost-wax casting and are considered among the best sculptures made using this technique. Follow the conversation on Twitter #liveorijinal and like our facebook page www.facebook.com/orijinNigeria. In this season of independence Orijin urges all Nigerians to Live Orijinal. • If it's not Orijin, it's not Orijinal. Remember, drink responsibly. |

Photos: UN staff who battered his estranged wife arrested & charged with assault Posted: 06 Nov 2015 07:25 AM PST Police have arrested the United Nations Environment Programme employee accused of battering his ex-wife. Alphonse Kambu was arrested at Garden Estate in Kasarani , around 9.30am on Wednesday, November 4, police boss Robinson Mboloi said. The UNEP staff beat up his ex-wife, Ruth Gakii, in her apartment three weeks ago and told her he enjoys diplomatic immunity hence there is nothing she could do. He was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, November 5, on assault charges. He denied the charge. Mr. Kambu will spend the weekend in remand custody pending a determination on his bail terms. The prosecution has objected to his release on bail and wants him incarcerated until the case is heard and determined. Prosecutor Jacinta Nyamusi said the suspect had been threatening the complainant and was likely to interfere with prosecution witnesses. However, his lawyers told the court that the prosecution's allegations were far-fetched and that Mr Kambu was willing to abide by any condition that the court may peg to his bond terms. A ruling will be made on November 9. |
