Sabotage and theft undermining power supply- Buhari, says Fashola to begin work on Lagos-Ibadan expressway next week

Posted: 24 Nov 2015 01:22 PM PST

Read the press statement from the presidency below...
President Muhammadu Buhari has identified sabotage and theft of gas as factors undermining the efforts of the government to increase power supply in the country. To tackle the problem, the President announced that existing Military Task-Forces will be reorganized to ensure a successful protection of the network of gas pipelines.

The President, who said this Tuesday in a question-and-answer interaction with the Nigerian community in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran, noted that "although some improvement in power had been recorded in the recent period," sabotage of pipeline installations continued to be a problem. He told his audience that Nigeria had everything it takes to generate enough power. "Power is a running battle because the saboteurs are still there. We have the potential. We have gas, we have qualified people but we are contending with a lot of saboteurs who go and blow up installations. When gas is pumped to Egbin and such other power stations, thieves and saboteurs such as the militants cut those supplies," President Buhari said.

He also cited another factor as the reduced role of the government in the sector due to the privatization of the institutions under the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, in the process of which, he said, the facilities "have been sold to a number of interest groups." He assured that the Military Task-Forces with representation from the Army, Navy, Air Force, the Police and other security agencies will be reconstituted to secure the pipelines. "Supplies will become steady; there will be less sabotage as we secure the pipelines," he stressed. President Buhari also updated the Nigerians in Tehran on the efforts of his administration towards ending the Boko Haram insurgency and terrorism in the country, explaining that a lot had been achieved following the reorganization of the military top command, followed by increased equipment supply and training. In a response to a question on the need to improve healthcare delivery, the President said that efforts had been intensified towards ridding the country of fake drugs and fake doctors, and also what he called "the disgraceful aspects" manifested by "baby factories." He also enumerated several steps being taken towards the revival of education from primary school level to university. On the creation of jobs, he placed the prevailing joblessness in the country at the door-step of the last administration which he blamed for giving "a devastating blow to the economy through corruption and incompetence."

The President said that something urgent will be done about the bad condition of roads, citing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as one to be addressed from next week by the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who sat next to him at the meeting. Speaking on the issue of corruption, one of the three issues he identified as the priorities of his administration, President Buhari said that the necessity for compliance with due process of the law was responsible for the delay in the prosecution of the looters of the country's economy. He noted however, that the "the day of reckoning is gradually coming." He also revealed that a number of past officials had begun the voluntary return of stolen funds but expressed the view that his government was not satisfied with tokens."We want to have everything back – all that they took by force in 16 years," the President concluded.

Ice T gives top 10 reasons why black men prefer to be with white women

Posted: 24 Nov 2015 12:22 PM PST

He's married to a white woman so he must be speaking for himself. Ni**a, if you go black, you ain't never gonna go white! Lol. Below is what Ice T told Complex mag about the difference between a white girl and a black girl.
The white girl topic is like the elephant in the room right now. Everyone sees it, but no one wants to acknowledge it. Well I say why not acknowledge said elephant. So here's 10 reasons black men prefer white girls (if you're offended, f#ck you and your feelings).
10. White girls can get their hair wet. It's summertime. Who wants to be at the pool with a girl who' only concern is not getting her weave wet. White girls just jump in the pool without any care.

09. White girls don't talk back. Put a little aggression in your voice and she will do whatever you say. That doesn't fly with other races though. They wanna fight. Always.
08. It' easier introducing them to your family/friends. "Everyone, this is Amber," is WAY easier on the ears than, "Everyone, this is Shaniqua. Just saying.
07. White girls have WAY less restrictions in the bedroom than other races. You can basically do whatever, wherever with them. And they'll smile through it all.
06. White girls aren't looking to be in a rap video. Meaning when y'all go out, she's not looking for you to buy out the bar and light the club up with sparklers. She doesn't care about any of that sh*t. She just wants her drinks and music.
05. White girls have no problem spoiling their men with gifts. The LOVE that shit! It's an ego boost for them. (See Kim Kardashian's birthday present to Kanye? OK then.)
04. White girls don't give you as many headaches as other races. There's no nagging, complaining, and other annoying ass behavior. No running through your phone and wanting to know who such and such is.
03. White girls cater to and love to take care of their men. Cooking? No problem. Cleaning? No problem. Anything else you want? No problem.
02. You ever receive head from a white girl? I rest my case.
Which all really sums up my number 1 reason black guys prefer white women:
01. White girls are just more FUN. There's no other way to put it. If you just want to have fun without any of the negative sh*t, get you a white girl.
Oh shut up, Ice T! Lol

Woman shares a story about how a company took back job offer over her refusal to take out her braids

Posted: 24 Nov 2015 11:52 AM PST

Lara Odoffin shared the post on Facebook, which was accompanied with a letter from the company. Read her story below:
So after being accepted for a position within this company, they have taken back the offer of a position on the grounds that if I do not take my braids out. Naturally I simply cannot work for the company. This type of discrimination should not still be happening in this day and age and any establishment still condoning such practices deserve to be shamed and criticised. Being a black woman means that to have a long term hairstyle that stays neat is always going to be a problem. Having braids that last for 2-4 months and can be packed neatly and styled to however a workplace requires is the solution to this problem. No workplace has any right to forbid you from this. This is discrimination and I am disgusted that I had to be subject to such behaviour in this 21st century. Please share. It is not okay.

In a second update, she writes:
I thought i'd post a status to save time answering questions.
Firstly I'd like to say thank you to everyone for the support. What I intended to be a vent of my feelings towards the company and maybe be shared a couple of times has exploded and touched/angered a lot of people in way I genuinely could never have imagined.
I am not currently naming the company (as much as i'd like to right now out of indignation and anger) because I do not intend to destroy someones livelihood and business, and I don't really want a lawsuit on my hands either... however it does not deter from the fact now that I have chanced upon an opportunity to correct blatant ignorance and discrimination, and it is a fact that I certainly will keep going until it is put to rest. If it does result in me having no choice but to completely expose the company, I have no problem in doing so.
This policy needs to be eradicated completely, there is no room for such rules in this day and age- across any sector. More than anything it just made me upset. I had the right experience, they were happy to have me... it was just about my hair. Kind of silly really. I will be speaking to a lawyer about this tomorrow and will be contacting the company. As I have now learnt social media is a very powerful thing and I would not want to misuse it!
Again, thank you very much for the surprising but amazing level of support, I will keep you posted.
It has really made a difference so please do keep sharing! xxx

Today Tuesday, Nov. 24, Evan Edwards, 20 (right), was jailed for 13 years at the Old Bailey after admitting to the manslaughter of 22-year-old Babafemi Junaid (Left), Metropolitan Police UK states.

Babatunde was stabbed on February 7, 2014 and later died in hospital. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a single stab wound to the heart. Babafemi became the inadvertent focus of an attack by a group after a disturbance on a 155 bus spilled out onto the street.

e was not on the bus but was waiting at the bus stop when the disturbance spilled out onto the pavement at Stockwell station. As he attempted to get away from the fracas when he was targeted, chased and attacked by the group.

During the attack one of the attackers was witnessed waving a knife, when Babafemi fell to the ground. He managed to run to his car which was a short distance away but, as a result of his injuries, crashed his car into the back of a bus soon after. The same group that initially attacked him then set upon him again opening three of its doors to kick and punch him until bystanders came over to intervene.

Innocent man exonerated of rape he didn't commit after 16 years in prison

Posted: 24 Nov 2015 10:10 AM PST

A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, William Ryan, has overturned the conviction of a man who spent 16 years in prison for sexual assaults that DNA evidence later proved he didn't commit. The man named Luis Vargas broke down in tears as the judge ordered the case dismissed after new DNA evidence linked the crime to a serial attacker on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

Luis Vargas had been in prison for crimes he didn't commit since 1999 and was serving a sentence of 55 years to life for three sexual assaults he didn't commit. When the verdict was announced & he was declared innocent, he placed his hand to his forehead, covered his eyes and shed some tears as he was finally free of the shame. His mother & daughter were present in court.

However, Vargas is not a free man yet because of his immigration status. He has been taken into federal custody until his green card can be restored.

Kogi election: APC will only substitute Audu during supplementary election- Attorney General says

Posted: 24 Nov 2015 08:14 AM PST

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, says for the inconclusive Kogi State governorship election, the APC will only need to substitute its candidate, Abubakar Audu, who died on Sunday. Malami said this while speaking at a seminar organised by the Nigerian Law Reform Commission on the reform of the National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (Establishment) Act in Abuja today November 24th.

"The issue is very straightforward. Fundamentally, Section 33 of the Electoral Act is very clear that in case of death, the right for substitution by political a political party is sustained by the provisions of section 33 of the Electoral Act. And if you have a community reading of that section with Section 221 of the Constitution, which clearly indicates that the right to vote is the right of a political party and and the party in this case, the APC has participated in the conduct of the election. It is therefore apparent that the combination community reading of the two provisions does not leave any room for conjecture. APC as a party is entitled to substitution by the clear provisions of section 33 of the Electoral Act. Also Section 221 of the Constitution is clear that the votes that were cast were cast in favour of the APC. Arising from that deductions, it does not require any legal interpretation. The interpretation is clear: APC will substitute, which right has been sustained by Section 33 of the Electoral Act. So be it. The supplementary election that has to be conducted along the line."he said
On whether or not the Audu Abubakar's running mate can be substituted as the party's governorship candidate in the supplementary election, Malami said
"It all depends on the appreciation of issues arising from the primaries conducted before now. There was a first and a second candidate. That primaries that had taken place over time had not by anyway been nullified. And it is recognized by law. But then a further consideration would be the idea of conducting another primary but that is not envisaged in view of the sustainability of the first primaries.".
