If Amaechi is found guilty of corruption, he will seize to be a minister— Sen. Sani

Posted: 01 Nov 2015 12:03 PM PST

Senator Shehu Sani has said that despite the confirmation of former Rotimi Amaechi as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, if any court of law finds him guilty of corruption, he will not continue to serve as a Minister in the Buhari led government. Sani said this while paying a get-well-soon visit to a veteran journalist and columnist, Abdulkareem Albashir today.
He said that the senate couldn't have stopped Amaechi's ministerial confirmation because all the petitions brought against him were mere allegations because no court had found him guilty of corruption.
"The APC position on corrupt allegation is that it is still an allegation and the issue is still in court which the senate committee should not have entertained in the first place. In the general sense, we are duty bound to protect the interest of someone in our party and the opposition has the right to object to who ever is presented.
In the broader sense, Nigerians and posterity will judge whether our approval of Amaechi was a tacit endorsement of corruption because the issues raised were not enough to stop his confirmation. But we must also understand that even if you are made a minister and you get convicted, the law will take its course. Certainly if he is found guilty, he would not continue to serve as minister under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration."he said

Only Buhari can decide when the ministers will be inaugurated- Femi Adesina

Special adviser to President Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, says only Buhari can decide when he will swear the 36 ministers into office. He said this while speaking at the 25th anniversary of the Scriptural Union of Nigeria, Abuja area yesterday October 31st.
"After ministers have been screened, the next thing is inauguration ;so let us wait. It is only President Buhari who can give a specific date when the ministers will be inaugurated. He is the one that has the mandate and he is the one bringing the ministers to work with him. So we need to wait until he makes a pronouncement on the date he will be inaugurating them."he said

‘Mr. President, Your Statements Are Demarketing Nigeria’ - PDP

Posted: 01 Nov 2015 05:36 AM PST

Press statement from the PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) draws the attention of Nigerians to the harmful consequences of the unabated negative statements from the very father of the nation, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the economy and the general image of the country.
The party said "it is worrisome that in the last six months, the President, instead of making efforts to harness resources and grow the economy, has rather continued to apply himself, perhaps unwittingly, to demarketing the nation and scaring away investors through negative labeling of Nigerians and unwarranted unhealthy portrayal of the nation's economy".

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh on Sunday said the President's unwary statements have become very serious clog in the wheel of progress, eroding the confidence of both domestic and international investors in the Nigerian economic and social system.

"In the last six months, our President has only succeeded in discouraging foreign investors with his continued misrepresentation of our country as a business unfriendly environment, where most of the citizens are basically corrupt, dishonest, and cannot be trusted.

"Whereas we have restated our total support for the war against corruption, we insist that Mr. President's unceasing blanket negative labeling of citizens, in a country where millions of honest and hardworking individuals/firms are genuinely contributing daily to the development effort, is indeed a disservice and injurious to the nation and the people.

"Furthermore, Mr. President's recent announcement to the world that the nation, with its abundant human and natural resources, is broke and cannot pay cabinet ministers not only sends a discouraging signal to the domestic and international business community, but also exposes the ineptitude of the present administration to meaningfully and sincerely exert itself and work with industrious and innovative investors to create and manage wealth.

"We ask; how can any reasonable investor still have the confidence to invest in a country where the President himself continues to alert that his country reeks of corrupt people and that the government is broke to the extent it cannot pay cabinet ministers?

"Is the President not directly advising investors against having confidence in Nigeria and the system, and that they risk not being paid for jobs awarded by government at any level?

"More worrisome is the fact that Mr. President most times, makes his damaging comments in international fora with potential investors in attendance to the extent that reminds one of the proverbial father who, in the presence of potential suitors, often portrays his daughters as wayward and yet constantly complain of their inability to find husbands.

"Indeed, this is not the way to go, Nigeria is a country blessed with abundant human and natural resources. What we need at the moment is a serious, innovative and practical approach with the capacity to harness the resources and create wealth for the benefit of all, instead of an apparently laidback scapegoat tactics with outworn excuses and unhelpful comments.

"May we remind Mr. President that even in the darkest period of our economic challenges, successive administrations made efforts in steadying the economy, while always reassuring our citizens and the international community of the strength and economic potentials of our great nation.

"We know that in the desperation to cover its apparent lack of economic plan, this administration has positioned cabinet ministers, upon inauguration to concentrate on diversionary blame game on the past PDP administration. But even this political deceit cannot combat the unpalatable consequences of Mr. President's damaging utterances on the image of the nation and its economy.

Finally, we wish to remind the President and those around him that Nigerians, by the 2015 elections, have committed the fate of the country in his hands for the next four years and are not willing to accept excuses for any economic failures under his watch.

Meanwhile, ISIS is claiming that they shut down the plane after releasing a video of what looks like a plane engulfed in fire and falling from the sky. They posted a statement on their site, which read
Breaking: Downing of Russian airplane, killing of more than 220 Russian crusaders on board. Soldiers of the Caliphate were able to bring down a Russian plane above Sinai Province with at least 220 Russian crusaders aboard. They were all killed, praise be to God. O Russians, you and your allies take note that you are not safe in Muslims lands or their skies. The killing of dozens daily in Syria with bombs from your planes will bring woe to you. Just as you are killing others, you too will be killed, God willing.'

How I turned a N100k business into a multi million Naira business

Entrepreneur Adaeze Ikeobodozie shares her story. Read below...
The reality is that not everyone is destined to be a successful blogger like Linda. I believe each one of us has our own individual calling from God. Sometimes what we think might be our calling might be totally different from what God has in store for us. Hence, we waste years in depression, struggling and deluding ourselves that 'e go better' when all we simply need to do is to ask God for direction and wisdom to know and do what he has called us to do, then follow. The story you are about to read is to highlight the goodness of God and His will in our lives. Also, to encourage people to believe in themselves.

My name is Adaeze  Ikeobodozie and this is my story (A true story)

Sometime in 2013 after Law school, I was posted to Delta State to do the "compulsory" one year Youth Service. After the three weeks Orientation Camp, I was posted to a law firm in Warri, Delta State, for my primary assignment. Due to certain health issues, I applied for redeployment to Lagos State where my doctor and family live. After one month in Warri, I got a call from the office of the NYSC State  Co- ordinator in Asaba, Delta State informing me to come over and pick up my redeployment letter which had been approved. I was elated and began telling everyone who cared to listen that I was leaving for Lagos, (though I hadn't  seen  my redeployment letter ) I presumed I had been redeployed to Lagos, since my application precisely stated Lagos State.

On opening my redeployment letter, I saw boldly "You have been Redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja". To say I was shocked was an understatement. I ? Why Abuja? I was left bemused. Hadn't they read my application stating that I had to be in Lagos where my doctor and family were? I personally had never seen nor heard of anyone who had applied for redeployment to a particular State and was redeployed somewhere else. Why was mine different? I was livid. I had no choice but to report to Abuja because I was told if I did not go, I would have to restart the youth service all over again. Mba o! I packed my things and left for Abuja with the mind-set that once I register there I would apply again for redeployment to Lagos.

The frustration and stress I experienced at the NYSC Secretariat, Abuja was on a whole new level. Everything went wrong. At that point, I gave up the thought of redeploying to Lagos State, as it was becoming clear that a higher force wanted me in Abuja. I immediately stopped the "I have to be in Lagos fight" and accepted Abuja. I was really sad. I remember praying to God for His will to be done. I told myself that once the service year was over I would run back to Lagos. The countdown began (if only I knew). I was posted to a law firm in Maitama around Aguiyi  Ironsi Street for my primary assignment. People who are familiar with this area know there are over 20 corporate organizations in this vicinity. One faithful day, during the course of my service year, while working at the office I began craving 'small chops' (small chops is a small meal comprising of samosa, spring rolls, chicken, peppered gizzard,
puff-puff etc, all packed together in a takeaway pack).
I kept wondering where and how I could buy and get it delivered straight to my office without going far.

It was at that moment after failing to find any company in that vicinity that sold small chops, I thought to myself, "hmmm, this would be a good business to delve into considering there were over 20 Corporate Organizations in the area and no one was selling Small Chops and doing delivery". I figured if the food was good, people would naturally patronize someone closer than go far. As a "confirm" Igbo Anambra girl, the idea stuck. I commenced my research and put up a business plan. This included the food preparation process, direct delivery to any customer and catering to small/medium/large events.

After roaming the streets of Maitama for several weeks, I was able to secure a small space in a Parking Lot off Aguiyi Ironsi, Maitama. It was more like a funky "mamaput " setting. It was perfect for me, the rent was affordable. I guess I was very realistic about what I was looking for because I knew there was no way I could afford a proper shop in a place like Maitama at the time.

I put together my monthly stipend (allowee) and executed my business plan with the sum of N100, 000.A small Freezer was the biggest thing I purchased. With faith, I employed two staff and designed a "cheap" flyer. I went from office to office, distributing and talking about what we had to offer. Thankfully, most people I told bought into the idea. The orders started (via phone calls and people coming directly to our stand) and that was how my business took off. It came with a lot of challenges. Delivering on time was a major challenge and many other challenges. I thank God though, we are learning the ropes and curves.

As the business grew, I was able to buy a Motorcycle solely used for deliveries that couldn't be delivered on foot.A lot of our customers requested we add garnished indomie noodles, rice and chips to the menu. I did a little survey and realized a lot of customers were asking for more on the menu. Sharply, we added them so long as it was making us money and people were buying. What started out as a 'Small Chops' business has gone up to become a full blown fast food restaurant today.

They demanded more, we gave more.

Here is a little of what we do. 4Every Refreshment Restaurant offers diverse food styles, Offering street food with style, local and continental dishes. Our Street food includes roasted plantain (bole), roasted yam and fish, roasted chicken, roasted corn with coconut and pear, garri soaking (Kokogarri 100grm sachet ),  hot puffpuff, glazed puffpuff, Masa, Zobo, Kunu aya and more. Our Local and Continental dishes include:  garnished noodles, chips and egg/chicken, jollof rice, fried rice, white rice, ofada, shrimps sauce, salad, everything swallow & soups,
spaghetti in sausages, grilled chicken, chicken balls, beans, asun, ewagonyi,  and more. We also have ajuice and shawarma Bar.

Taking things further, we are  also in partnership with a great company called  EverythingbutCoffee Ltd that specializes in makingthe best coffee - latte, cappuccino including tea, hot chocolates with cream and delicious pastries.

Jeremiah 29:11 'For I know the thought I think towards you, thoughts of good, to give you an expected end". I dreaded the thought of going to Abuja and fought hard to leave Abuja not knowing God had better plans for me in Abuja. Sometimes I wonder if I had redeployed to Lagos would I have gotten this far? I honestly doubt that.
Grateful to Mr Omale aka Papi as we fondly call him who is in charge of the Parking Lot, who secured a place for me. I am so thankful. We have opened a branch of our Restaurant at  46 Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse ll, Abuja beside HMedix and Studio 24. It is bigger and wider. We still retain our Restaurant at 433 Zambezi crescent parking lot. Maitama beside Gtbank and Etf.

Everyone is invited to our Official launch on Saturday 7th of November 2015.
FREE FOOD FOR EVERYONE.

My 2Cents:

Never force what seems not to be yours, the sign is usually there. If it's yours it will surely come to you.
You do not necessarily have to have a lot of money to start up a business.
Learn to grow like I did and be realistic about your goals.
Do not worry about what people would say.
Time waits for no one. Learn to seize every opportunity you have; I seized the opportunity. As a lawyer, I didn't "mind" it was not my field. I learnt how to make it my field and became great at it.

Photos: Publisher of slain blogger hacked to death in Bangladesh

Posted: 01 Nov 2015 01:10 AM PST

Faysal Arefin, the publisher of a slain online critic of religious militancy, was hacked to death on Saturday, October31, in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, police said. Hours after his killing, similar attacks wounded two secular writers and another publisher.

The 43-year-old chief of the Jagriti Prokashoni publishing house published books by Avijit Roy, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin who was murdered in the same way in February. The body of Arefin was found inside his office. The perpetrators, who pretended to be customers, had locked the office before carrying out the attack, police said.

Arefin's father, Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, a noted intellectual and writer, said:
"I rushed to his office at Aziz Market and broke the padlock, and I saw him lying upside down in a massive pool of blood. They slaughtered his neck."

Jamaluddin Mir, a police officer, revealed that at least seven other people were trapped inside the office when the attack was carried out.
"The criminals introduced themselves as customers who were buying books and entered the publishing house," he said, adding that an investigation to identify the attackers was under way.

The publisher had filed a complaint with police after being threatened with death in a posting on Facebook following the attack on Roy.

Abbas Faiz, Bangladesh Researcher at Amnesty International, said:
"The situation is becoming increasingly dangerous for those brave enough to speak their own minds. The latest heinous criminal attacks are a deliberate assault against freedom of expression in the country. Given the horrific pattern of violence, we have reason to believe many other lives are now at risk."

"I'm not the humblest person so I need haters" - Cristiano Ronaldo

Posted: 01 Nov 2015 01:52 AM PDT

One would think the 30-year old would wish for an end to the boos and whistles he gets on away grounds but no, he says it's just the tonic he needs.
"I am not the humblest person in the world, I admit that," he told The Times. "I am not fake. But I like to learn. I don't mind people hating me, because it pushes me. When I go to play away they are always against me, but it's good. You have to see the good things from the haters. I need the enemy. It is part of the business. They start screaming when I touch the ball." he said
"It had started already when I was 18 or 19. It is not a problem for me. It is a motivation."
The superstar also spoke of his gratitude towards former coach Sir Alex Ferguson:
"When my daddy was dying, he was in a hospital in London, and it was not good. I said to Sir Alex Ferguson, 'Coach, I want to go'. It was a crucial moment of the season.
"But Ferguson said: 'Football doesn't mean anything compared to your dad. If you want to go, go. I will always appreciate that."
