Emmanuel Sithole case: Accused found guilty of murder Posted: 08 Nov 2015 01:19 PM PST The four men accused of killing Mozambican man Emmanuel Sithole in a savage attack that was caught on film, have been found guilty of murder. Mthinto Bhengu, Sizwe Mngomezulu, Ayanda Sibiya and Sifundi Mzimela stabbed Sithole to death on a street in northern Johannesburg township. The accused appeared in court in Johannesburg on Friday, November 6, after they pleaded not guilty to robbing and killing the vendor. Images of the killing went viral after the Sunday Times published the picture showing the attack. All three of the accused and a minor have been found guilty of robbing the Mozambican in Alexandra during the height of the xenophobic attacks in April this year. The17-year-old was also found guilty of assault. Sentencing procedures have been set down for the beginning of next month. Witnesses in the trial told the court that their efforts to intervene in the murder were unsuccessful, adding that the four men took turns trampling on him. The court also used pictures in the judgment detailing how the four accused were involved in the murder. In June, the Johannesburg Regional court heard how community members tried to intervene when Sithole was attacked by a group of youngsters. The state's first witness, Sibusiso Mnyandu, described how the Mozambican was beaten and stabbed by four young men in Alexandra. Mnyandu said he was too scared to intervene because he was worried his life would be in danger as foreigners were being attacked in the township at the time. However, he said some community members tried to help the 25-year-old. |

The woman, who was wearing a black abaya and hijab, was asked for her identification to enter the predominately Jewish city. As the guard started flicking through her papers, the Palestinian woman reached for a knife from inside her bag and tried to stab him. The woman, named locally as 22-year-old Hilwa Salim Darwish, was shot in the street and taken to Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem's Ein Karem. |

Man escapes from jail, foolishly posts pictures on Facebook & gets re-arrested Posted: 08 Nov 2015 12:47 PM PST An Idaho man that authorities say escaped the Payette County jail by scaling a razor-wire fence and then taunted authorities on social media has been captured in Mexico. The U.S. Marshal's Service says 38-year-old Nicholas Grove was recently arrested in Tulum, Mexico, and on Friday was turned over to U.S. authorities. 'Social media certainly played a role originally because this certain individual bragged about his escape on Facebook,' Brian Underwood, with the U.S. Marshal Service, said. Police had been monitoring Grove's Facebook posts that included selfies and various shots around Cancun, Mexico. Authorities say a surveillance camera shows Grove on August 26, 2014, climbing the fence with razor wire and runnng away. Grove had been jailed for several weeks and faced charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, possession of burglary tools and an invalid license. 'He caused us some grief and we're glad to see that he's off the streets and hopefully he'll get his day in court in Payette County,' Payette County Sheriff Chad Huff said. Improvements have been at the jail to make escapes more difficult, Huff said. 'We believe our safety and security of the jail has increased and is much better,' he said. Underwood declined to say where Grove is being held. It's not clear if Grove plans to fight extradition, which could delay his return to Idaho. |

British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury compares Homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia Posted: 08 Nov 2015 02:54 AM PST British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has compared homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia in what some deem vile and offensive. Fury, who is due to fight Wladimir Klitschko on November 28 for the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles, claimed that legalising pedophilia was the same as legalising homosexuality and abortion. The 27-year-old also said that he was not scared of being accused of homophobia as his religious beliefs as a Christian confirmed for him that being gay is a sin... "There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home," Fury said. "One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other is paedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalised? "When I say paedophiles could be made legal, it sounds crazy. But if I had said to you about the first two being made legal in the 50s, I would have been looked upon as a crazy man." |

Photos: Film crew attacked by angry Elephant Posted: 08 Nov 2015 02:51 AM PST The team of wildlife photographers were shooting in the mountainous Limpopo Province of north east South Africa when the enraged young adult turned on them, ramming into the jeep and attempting to flip it with her tusks. The crew caught the hair-raising attack on camera as their driver desperately reversed in an attempt to escape, before smashing into a log on the road. Luckily none of the team were injured, although much of their camera equipment was destroyed in the alarming event that happened on October 27. The crew, a group of photographers working for Black Bean Productions, were then able to intimidate the elephant by standing up in the jeep, causing the startled animal to back off. |

Teenager found alive 50 hours after Pakistan factory collapse Posted: 08 Nov 2015 02:36 AM PST Rescuers in Pakistan have pulled a teenage boy alive from the rubble of a collapsed factory near Lahore 50 hours after the structure toppled, officials said on Saturday. The teenager had been trapped for more than two days after the collapse and his family, thinking him dead, had already identified and buried another recovered body they believed to be his. "An 18-year-old Muhammad Shahid was also evacuated alive 50 hours after the building collapsed by the blessing of God," Muhammad Usman, a top administration official in Lahore, told AFP.The four-storey Rajput Polyester polythene bag factory came crashing down on Wednesday evening, and at least 37 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage. Shahid's discovery ignited emotional scenes at the site as workers chanted "Allah-O-Akbar (God is great)" and encouraged each other to boost morale. The news was a welcome surprise to his family who had mistakenly identified the dead body of another boy earlier this week as Shahid and buried the remains in their ancestral town of Kabirwala, some 265 kilometres (164 miles) from Lahore. Officials have said at least 150 people were in the factory when it came down and it was unclear how many, dead or alive, may still be trapped. Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the factory may have suffered structural damage in the October 26 quake, which killed almost 400 people across Pakistan and Afghanistan. Provincial labour minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that an enquiry into the collapse "is being conducted and we will probe all angles", with a report to be submitted within two weeks. At least 24 people died last year when a mosque collapsed in the same city, while more than 200 people lost their lives, mostly due to collapsed roofs, following torrential rain and flooding in 2014. |
