Photos: Female Staff of Federal government agency in Oyo protest topless, demand removal of their Executive director

Posted: 09 Nov 2015 01:18 PM PST

Female staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, threw caution to the winds this morning and staged a semi-nude protest against the Executive Director of the agency, Professor Malachy O. Akoroda over what they termed his maladministration of the agency.

The staff are accusing their executive director of engaging in white elephant jobs & mismanagement of funds.

The female staff members in company of their male colleagues who did not remove their clothes, barricaded the entrance to the institute with heaps of sand.

A petition letter jointly written and signed by the Chief Yekeen Ogunyode, the Baale of Odo Onanla the host community and one Solomon Adebiyo read
"Letters have been sent to the President Federal Republic of Nigeria and Federal House of Representatives regarding the lingering crisis in CRIN. In addition numerous petitions have been sent to the ICPC, the EFCC, the Auditor General, and Accountant General of the Federation concerning the mismanagement of funds through white elephant projects at the expense of research by Professor Akoroda." The workers alleged that Professor Akoroda use his influence to engage the security services to intimidate, harass, and victimize all those involved in the struggle to expose his maladministration through the issuance of queries, endless warnings, open confrontations and many more. Chief Ogunyode and other community leaders informed journalists during the protest that they identify with the plight of the workers and demand for the removal of Professor Akoroda "We the Community Leaders have made several attempt to ensure this matter is settled, but Professor Akoroda will not listen. We cannot continue to fold our arms and watch this institute rot away or have our land taken away, most of our people are here. We want peace and I think peace cannot return to this place until Professor Akoroda is removed"he said
Professor Akoroda has not reacted to the strike action or allegations leveled against him

President Buhari deserves a place in the Guiness book of Records- NFF

Posted: 09 Nov 2015 12:22 PM PST

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation,Amaju Pinnick has hailed the support the NFF enjoyed from President Buhari citing it as crucial to the U-17 team's success in Chile, even calling for the President's name to be inducted in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Amaju Pinnick spoke to journalists in Santiago on Monday morning as he boarded a flight to Buenos Aires on his way back home from a successful outing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

"Yes, it is a success story as you just mentioned, but it would not have ended that way without the great support that the Nigeria Football Federation continues to receive from the President Buhari –led Federal Government. In fact, the Nigeria Football Federation is dedicating this triumph to President Buhari. He is a man of history. He was there when the first set won the trophy in 1985 as military Head of State; now he is here as civilian President when the Class of 2015 emerged victorious. Seriously speaking, I don't think there is any Head of State or Government in the entire universe who has this honour, and for this, our PMB deserves a place in the Guinness Book of Records."
The NFF president assured that his administration would be strongly involved in the players' development, unlike what happened in the past.
"People have talked about monitoring the players. We would do more than that. We would be part of their developmental programs and seamless transition to senior categories. We are very happy with this victory because it gives us the opportunity to present to our dear PMB his first global crown on his return as civilian President."
Pinnick, whose one –year administration has been successful so far insisted on Monday that the masterstroke for the Eaglets' confident and determined approach was President Buhari's skype call to the team a day earlier.
"We appreciate the President for sparing time out of his very tight schedule to talk to each and every player and official. That was a massive motivation. At the end of the conversation, the players told me they would go all out and give whatever it would take to win, having been inspired by the country's leader. "Football is a potent and huge tool for national unity and the focus of the present NFF administration is to build a sustainable football culture for our country. Triumphs are good, but we must not overlook the sustainable culture."

Lol. Lagos State Police urges residents stop reporting crimes first on social media

Posted: 09 Nov 2015 11:10 AM PST

The Lagos State Police Command has urged residents of the state not to report traffic robberies and other crimes first on social media but to the nearest police station as that will help the police forestall further occurrence. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joseph Offor, made the appeal on Monday, November 9.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, lamented that Nigerians have the habit of reporting crimes first on the social media. He also spoke about how some distress calls were actually blown out of proportion and advised the residents to always verify their information before causing panic.

Offor added that making false reports of crime incidents on social media was a cheap blackmail against the leadership of the Nigeria Police.

"People should endeavour to report every road traffic robbery to the police station so that we will know who to hold responsible. This will help us to strategise and come against those people behind the crimes. We are not denying the fact that we have a couple of traffic robberies here and there but we have arrested some of the suspects. We have also prevented some of them that were about to be committed. When somebody is a victim of a crime, he knows where to go," Offor told NAN.

"If you go to a police station to report, it will help us to have the statistics of crime being committed in that area; it will also help us in our planning. It will help us in our research but when people decide to report their cases to the social media, we see it as a cheap blackmail against the leadership of the Nigeria Police. And this is worrisome because it is not helping our statistics." he added.

Former Senate Leader, Ndoma-Egba, formally joins APC

Posted: 09 Nov 2015 08:23 AM PST

Former Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, who resigned from PDP on September 17th, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ndoma-Egba, who represented Cross River Central in the seventh Senate, was at the APC secretariat in Cross River state today where he formally joined the party. While speaking to some of the party chieftains, Ndoma-Egba said
"I came to reciprocate the various courtesy calls paid to me by chapter chairmen of the APC from the ward level to the national body of the party and to tell you that I want to formally join the APC family.
For a long time, it was said that Cross River State was a one party state. For a long time it was, but it is no longer tenable today, because the action of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) created a large pool of IDPs (Internally Displaced Politicians) who still have political life in them and must continue in politics. So the IDPs must find a platform to carry on with their politics. As we continue consultations with you, I want to assure you that we are aware the party has a constitution and we must be bound by it. We want to come to the party with values of integrity, fair competition and a level playing ground. Fortunately PDP has given a template of what should not be done, that impunity is not sustainable. They have had to pay a high price for impunity. Whether they have learnt lessons from their impunity is what I don't know," he said.
