James Packer planning very expensive proposal

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 12:36 PM PDT

According to reports, Mariah Carey's billionaire boyfriend James Packer is planning to propose with $9million lightning. If this is true, then what on earth will the ring cost?

 From The National Enquirer
Mariah Carey's Aussie boyfriend James Packer – a billionaire and handsome stud - is secretly plotting to light up her life with a glittering marriage proposal that'd make any princess starry-eyed: Packer's gonna pop the question as his honey's bathed in the glow of a multi-million$$$ antique chandelier that once hung in France's Versailles Palace!
Said My Carey Cohort: "Mariah collects antique chandeliers – she literally fills her homes with them, knowing how beautiful she looks in their soft, romantic light – so James is wheeling and dealing to buy a stunning silver chandelier designed in 1736 for King George II that sold a while back for a whopping $9 million! But price is no object for Packer, who prays dazzled Mariah won't be able to say 'No!'"

Nigerian woman who laundered stolen student cash ordered to pay back almost £630k

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 12:21 PM PDT

Ruth Smith-Ajala, who helped defraud hundreds of UK students online has been ordered to pay back almost £630,000 after admitting she made £1.2million from her crimes. On Monday, September 14, the Old Bailey heard how the 46-year-old Nigerian National was jailed in December 2013 for her part in conning students out of more than £1.5m.

Students were sent emails inviting them to update details on their student loan account via a link to a bogus website. When the site was accessed by the unsuspecting victims, a cyber crime gang gained unauthorised access to their bank accounts, stealing large amounts of money.

Smith-Ajala used her share of the cash to buy products in the UK, which she then shipped out for sale at a wholesaler in Lagos, Nigeria, that she owns. During her trial, Smith-Ajala tried to convince the court that she was running a legitimate business but she was ultimately found guilty of conspiracy to launder money and mortgage fraud.

The mortgage fraud related to seven houses that Smith-Ajala was renting out in Gravesend, Northfleet and Chatam, in Kent; Grays, in Essex; and Catford, in London.

In conjunction with the investigation, specialist detectives from the Met's Central Criminal Finance Team (CFT) launched a financial investigation. They and the Crown Prosecution Service obtained a restraint order for the properties and Smith-Ajala's banks accounts were frozen, prohibiting her from selling the houses and hiding the money.

As a result of the confiscation proceedings, Smith-Ajala will now have to sell the houses, using the profits and rent money to pay the confiscation sum. Detective Inspector Pete Ward, of the Met's Central Criminal Finance Team, said:
"We won't stop at seeing criminals convicted for their crimes - we will also make them pay back the money they have taken from their victims."
"It is ironic that Smith-Ajala helped defraud hundreds of students while paying for one of her own children to be privately educated."

"She has just three months to pay back the money she obtained, or face a further five years in prison. If she doesn't pay the money by the time she is out of prison, the order will remain and her finances will be scrutinized to ensure she continues to pay up." He added.

Kenya Police have arrested three suspected young female terrorists believed to be on their way to join the Al-Shabaab militia group, in Somalia. The 3 girls identified as Nargis Arafat Gulam, Mwanajuma Mweru Tayari and Saumu Ali Athmani were on Wednesday, September 16, found with a collection of gadgets that the police have linked to a planned attack in Garissa, Kenya.

The suspicious 'Jihadi brides' aged between 15-18 years were nabbed in a bus at Mtwapa in Kilifi County en-route to Garissa.

Security agents managed to recover laptops, satellite phones, military boots, surveillance pen, laptop charger, external hard disk and ear phones. It is reported that the items were to be handed over to an Al-Shabaab operative as soon as the suspects arrived in Garissa. Reports further indicate that a fourth suspect who handed over the items to be delivered to the Al Shabaab militant in Garissa, fled to the United Kingdom leaving three phone numbers that the girls were to use to call the receiver.

State Lawyer Eugene Wangila said the police believe the suspects were part of a wider terror network and that the police would require experts from anti-cybercrime police to analyse the laptops found in their possession.

The girls were arraigned in court and will be detained for 30 days to enable the police complete their investigations. Wangila told Mombassa Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache that the threat of terrorism was grave and there is a need for police to be given time to complete investigations.
"We want 30 days to investigate the matter. They were intercepted aboard Muhsin Bus at the Mwapa Weighbridge in Kilifi County on thier way to Garissa following a tip-off," said Wangila.

CCT Defiance of Subsisting Court Order: Our Stand

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 10:13 AM PDT

Press release from the office of the Senate Office
Following the development in the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today, Friday, September 18, 2015 when the Tribunal chose to ignore the subsisting order of a Federal High Court by sitting, we hereby state our position as follows:
1. While the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had stated and maintains that he is ready to submit himself to due process of the law on any issue concerning him, he also believes he has an inalienable right to resort to the same judiciary for protection when he feels his fundamental rights are about to be infringed upon.

2. It is for this reason that Dr. Saraki, having satisfied himself that the case filed by the CCB and the manner in which the case was filed show that he will not be given justice, resorted to the Federal High Court for the determination of the issues of competence of the prosecutor as well as compliance with the procedure stipulated in the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.

3. The Federal High Court on Thursday, September 17, 2015, therefore ordered that the all parties in the case should appear before it on Monday, September 21,  2015. The implication of this ruling by a Court of competent jurisdiction is that the sitting today has been overtaken by event. It is for this reason that Dr. Saraki chose to go about with his normal official schedule.

4. Today at the Tribunal, Counsel to the Senate President, Mr. M. A. Mahmud (SAN), raised a motion stating that there is a pending constitutional matter before the Federal High Court to be decided on Monday and that the Tribunal should hold the trial until the constitutional matter is disposed of.

5. We are however dismayed that the Tribunal chose to disregard the order of the Federal High Court and the motion to suspend hearing till Monday when all parties are expected to argue their positions on the constitutional matter.

6. It is also a surprise to us that despite the application by the lead counsel to the Senate President that he will produce Dr. Saraki on Monday and the personality of the person  involved as the Number three man in the country, the Tribunal insisted on issuing a warrant of arrest as if its intention is simply to embarrass Dr. Saraki. We are not unmindful of the fact that the Tribunal is acting under political influence and external pressure. This is dangerous to our democracy.

7. The conduct of the Tribunal  today left nobody in doubt that it cannot do justice on the matter before it. It is also clear that today's decision is an abuse of the rule of law which portends danger to our judicial system. The Tribunal has equally set a bad precedent in the way and manner it conducted itself during the proceedings.

8. We want to emphasise the fact that this is not part of any war against corruption but using state institutions to fight political opponents and seeking to achieve  through the back door what some people cannot get through democratic process.

9. We need to caution here that in a desperate bid to settle political scores and nail imaginary enemies, we should not destroy our democratic institutions and heat the polity for selfish reasons. Let us all learn from history.

9. The Senate President is a law abiding citizen who will not do anything to undermine the judicial process and authority. However, Dr. Saraki will always act to protect his fundamental human rights.

End

Signed

Yusuph Olaniyonu
Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President.

Kuwait court upholds death penalty for African maid who killed 19yr old daughter of her employee

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 09:55 AM PDT

Kuwait's Cassation Court on Thursday, September 17 upheld a death sentence for an Ethiopian maid for killing a Kuwaiti teenager. 22-year-old Rabiya Mahmoud was sentenced to death in November. The court sentenced her to death by hanging after she admitted to the public prosecution that she killed Siham Humood Flaitah Al Shemmari, 19, while the family members were resting after hosting a dinner reception celebrate the graduation of a relative.

According to reports on the case, Rabiya confessed that in March 2014 she took a knife and walked into the victim's bedroom where she stabbed her in the chest. The victim survived the first stabs and pleaded for her life; however, Rabiya refused and stabbed her again until she died.

She then fled the house, but later headed to the Sulaibikhat police station and turned herself in at 5:45 am. She told officers that she stabbed the victim who was asleep, then locked her inside the room before leaving her employer's house. She cited conflicts with the victim as the reason, and said that she had planned the murder days earlier and that her plans had been delayed because of the presence of the victim's younger sister.

The police said that officers responded to an emergency call reporting that a door was locked in a Sulaibikhat house with a girl inside. Firefighters broke the door open and found the girl bleeding profusely. She was rushed to the hospital but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The medical report said the death was caused by four stab wounds — two in the chest and two in the abdominal area.

Investigators confirmed that Rabiya killed the young girl after they found her fingerprints on the knife used in the crime.

Siham was a freshman at Kuwait University's Faculty of Arts when she was killed. Her father, Humood, was a member of Kuwait's national team that participated in the 1982 Fifa World. Cup.

If Fashola wanted to steal, it wouldn't be N78m - Akabueze

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 09:40 AM PDT

Former Lagos state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget under Babatunde Fashola's government, Ben Akabueze has come out to defend his former boss in the N78 million website scandal which broke weeks ago. In an interview with Kadaira Ahmed of Straight Talk With Kaidaia, Ben Akabueze says they ran a very detailed government that checked against fraud and that if the former governor wanted to steal, it wouldn't be N78 million

"I think it would be useful for people to look at the full scope of the project and then make a determination about whether or not it did not represent value for money. For me, we ran an annual budget of over N400bn. I think that if he (Fashola) really wanted to steal money, it wouldn't be N78m out of over N400bn that he had access to. Of course, every kobo of public funds must be accounted for and I hope in the future, we can get the full facts and it will be made available to the public. I don't know of anybody succeeding at anything like that (stealing) because we had a system that we designed as much as possible to prevent such. Take for instance, in our capital expenditure, we had in-house experts, so, if it was a construction project, regardless of the agency of government undertaking the project, the experts in the ministry of works and infrastructure would do an independent assessment of the cost. We had quantity surveyors, engineers, architects that offered advice. If it was an IT related project, the team in the Ministry of Science and Technology would do an independent evaluation and so for you to steal; you would need to corrupt the whole process.""he said

Woman arrested for allegedly kidnapping three kids in Lagos

Posted: 18 Sep 2015 09:31 AM PDT

The Lagos state police command has arrested 42 year old Mrs Nimotu Raheem pictured above for allegedly kidnapping three children, a 4 year old set of twin Taiye and Kehinde, and a 16-month old boy, Fatai Adeola. at an Arabic School in Itire-Ikate, Surulere, Lagos yesterday September 17th.

According to a report by The Nation , the Lagos state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni while parading her, said the suspect accosted the mother of the three children along the road and demanded that she hands her children to her.
"It was another woman who saw the manner the suspect demanded for the child and the mother gave the child out without any resistance or questions that now raised alarm. For the quick intervention of the police from Itire, the suspect would have been mobbed. At first, the suspect acted like a dumb person but after some tactics used on her by our operative, she started talking. We also got information that she has mental problem. All that she has said so far is useful to our investigation,'' he said.
Owoseni admonished parents to be vigilant regarding their children. He said further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

A man called the police after he went for a massage in Manchester city centre and was offered a little something extra...sex. The shocked customer said he thought the place was legitimate after seeing an advert online, but during the private, afternoon session, he was offered sex.

The man refused the additional service saying he was 'offended', and a row broke out with the masseuse when he demanded his money back.
