Photo: 3 male Nursing students arrested for allegedly defiling 6yr old pupil in Edo

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 12:55 PM PDT

Three male students of the School of Nursing, Benin city in Edo state have been arrested for allegedly defiling 6 year old Miss Sharon Eghobamien pictured above, a pupil of Eriya Group of Schools, Ihogbe, Benin-City, Edo State, at her mother's shop in Benin city on May 25th.

According to Vanguard, Sharon's mother Mrs. Eghobamien, a casual worker in the school of Nursing, noticed that her daughter had been walking in an unusual manner and constantly complained of abdominal pains, urinating frequently and defecating.

When she interrogated her, Sharon revealed that the three male students named Kennedy, Paul Aghama and Jeffery usually come to the shop when she wasn't around and took her to their room in their hostel where they took their turns to defile her.

"I begin to question her and she then told me that whenever I am not in the shop, these boys always took her away through the window to their hostels to defile her. I took her to the Central Hospital Benin where she was examined by a doctor and it was discovered that she had been defiled and her hymen was already broken. I then reported the case at the Aideyan Police Station, Benin City and from there it was transferred to Esigie Police Station, the section in charge of defilement cases in Benin. While police officers at Esigie Police Station were carrying out discreet investigation to unravel the intrigues behind the defilement as instructed by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. James Ezike, the suspects and their cohorts concocted a frivolous petition to the office of the AIG, Zone 5."she said

Mrs Eghobamien said while the suspects under investigation by the state Police Command were in detention, some officials of the School of Nursing approached her, asking her to withdraw the case from the police. Her refusal cost her her shop in the school premises and she was also deprived of removing her wares in the her shop since then. She said that her life was threatened and following the boasting from the suspects that they have some powerful individuals,  who would use their positions to influence the Office of the AIG, Zone 5 investigating the case to give them a safe landing. This prompted her to contact a Benin based legal practitioner, Olayiwola Afolabi,  who immediately petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, over the matter. In the petition, her lawyer appealed to the IGP to allow an independent panel of police investigators in- charge of defilement matters other than those from the office of the AIG Zone 5 to conduct fresh investigation into the, matter.
According to Mr Afolabi, certain powerful persons had used their positions to influence the office of the AIG, Zone 5 to sweep the heinous crime under the carpet and more so, cases of rape fall under the purview of the state Police Command.
"To our greatest chagrin, our client was told that the said investigation report contains among other things that her daughter, who is only six years old is the one responsible for her broken hymen by using instruments to penetrate her vagina; this fact only points to one direction, that the boasting of the suspects was true. The curious thing about this matter is that while the case was pending at AIG Zone 5, Ministry of Health officers that oversee the School of Nursing called our client to come with her daughter that was defiled. After our client and her daughter had made statement to them, they began to ask her what exactly she wanted with the case at the AIG Zone 5, using her words. We have laboured to bring before the Inspector General of Police the various intrigues associated with this case due to the fact that the family of the victim has no money but we believe the Inspector General of Police is only our hope in this matter," he said.
The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has received their petition and has asked for a fresh investigation into the matter which is to be handled by the Edo state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezkike, through his Principal Staff Officer, Idowu Owohunwa (ACP).

Though the guys did not permit me to take their pictures but they were proud to say that the meal is a balance diet

Woman posted selfie of her boyfriend pointing a gun on social media hours before he allegedly shot her dead

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 10:47 AM PDT

According to the police, 21-year-old Stephanie Hernandez posted one picture of a gun and ammo in her Little Rock home and also sent a Snapchat photo showing her smiling at the camera while her boyfriend, Rafael Gonzalez, holds a gun behind her head. "Strap Chat," the caption said, punning a slang term for carrying a gun. A few hours later, she died by the same gun...

That night, the mother of a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old daughter, was found dead from a gunshot wound in her house. Police found the home ransacked, with blood all over a floor. Gonzalez, 20, was arrested the next day and and charged for first-degree murder, police said.

It's unclear what led to Gonzalez allegedly shooting his girlfriend. Hernandez's daughters were with relatives when the shooting happened, her friends said. Hernandez's family members were horrified to see the pictures she had taken, not knowing they would be her last...

"I guess they were loaded. In her back — it is just mind-blowing. I don't understand how anybody could do that." Hernandez's uncle Rey Hernadez told KATV.

Now they're left to explain to Hernandez's little girls what happened.
"My nieces have been crying all night," Hernandez's sister Camryn Startz told KATV. "I haven't told my 3-year-old niece anything yet. She knows something is wrong because she wants her mom."

Relatives said Hernandez had just moved into a new home weeks ago and was supposed to start a job Monday morning. One friend, Jaquinlan Davis, told KATV Hernandez's boyfriend was "a bad influence" and the two had a rocky, on-and-off relationship.

Dead snake keeps wriggling - and the reason why is truly horrific (photos)

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 09:27 AM PDT

This is the bizarre moment a dead snake kept wriggling - despite half of its body being completely crushed. The deceased reptile was lying on the drive way of a house in Charleston, South Carolina, but continued to move the tail-end of its body. But the usual explanation that involves nerves continuing to send signals to the spinal cord - resulting in muscles twitches and spasms after death - is not the reason in this case.

The video reveals that the copperhead snake is full of maggots, that are wriggling frantically under the reptile's skin.

A caption alongside the video reads: "Found a partially crushed baby copperhead in the driveway today. Went to take a picture of it and discovered it was still moving. After further examination, I found that it was not some postmortem muscle spasm causing the movement, but rather the fact that it was full of maggots. No idea how long it was there.

Hajj stampede survivor say Saudi Arabia paramedics favoured white victims over Africans

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 09:19 AM PDT

One of the survivors from the recent stampede in Saudi Arabia, an indigene of Osun State, resident in Warri, Delta State revealed that paramedics ignored African pilgrims and concentrated on rescuing white and Caucasian victims which resulted in a high casualty rate among Africans. He said he was stuck in the midst of dead bodies for more than two hours and there was no help from paramedics, who favoured whites over blacks.

"I tried to escape but it was impossible as I was stuck in the midst of many dead bodies and some people were climbing over me to find an escape. I struggled to get myself up to the waist level. From my toe to my waistline, people were all over and I could not get up. I was calling the Saudi police and paramedics on the scene to help me but they didn't respond and I was stuck there for more than two hours as they were busy helping whites, with no response to my plea,"

Rejoinder on ransom payment by the family of Chief Olu Falae

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 09:06 AM PDT

This is a police press statement. Read below...
The office of the Inspector-General of Police has been inundated with enquires on claims by Chief Olu Falae and his family that a ransom was paid to his abductors following the kidnapping incident involving him on 21st September, 2015 and eventual release on 24th September, 2015. As a law enforcement agency guided by rule of law and professional ethics we do not under any circumstance encourage the payment of ransom to kidnappers or other criminals as it is tantamount to rewarding crime and motivating other criminals to follow that path.

As such, the Police was not in any way privy to any arrangement that would have led to payment of ransom by the elder statesman or his family. For the respected Chief to declare that he paid a ransom for his release is therefore, a demotivating news. Our approach was a professional response to what we saw as a crime against a respected national personality known to embrace peace and who has dedicated most of his valuable life to selfless service of our Nation.

The Police under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police deployed our unique intelligence and operational capabilities including Police helicopters for aerial surveillance. Our intelligence and operational teams comprising Intelligence Response Team (a special anti-kidnapping unit), Conventional and Mobile Policemen were deployed for rescue operation. They followed the path from the point of kidnapping at his farm at Ilado, along Igbatoro Road in Akure, Ondo State and trailed the hoodlums through bushes to Owo in Ondo State. In the process, we were able to identify the major actors and currently high level Police activities are being emplaced to apprehend and bring them to justice.

As professionals, it is our conviction that the unprecedented and massive deployment of Police resources and men to support search and rescue operations put pressure on the criminals to release the elder statesman. This is much so, that history has shown that even where ransom is proven to have been paid the life or safe return of a kidnap victim may not be guaranteed. The primary interest of the Police in this instance and granted the circumstances of the incident), was the safe rescue of Chief Olu Falae which was achieved.

Whatever the family did as regards payment of ransom was outside the knowledge and consent of the Police and at this point we wish to advice that in future families who fall victims of such acts should rather work closely with the Police component of the rescue initiative so that we can achieve the primary purpose of rescuing the victim alive instead of wittingly or unwittingly giving the impression of encouraging criminal activity by rewarding criminals with payment of ransom.

In this instance, having confirmed that ransom was paid to the abductors, the Police will be interested in widening their investigative scope with a view to exploring the lead further with regards to how payment was made and to whom such payment was made. If the payment was perfected through bank transaction the Police have the capacity to track such transactions and will be liaising with the bank to enable us trace the cash and apprehend the perpetrators. This could be an added lead that could strengthen ongoing post-kidnapping efforts of the Police.

The Inspector-General of Police wishes to reassure Nigerians of his determination to strengthening and enhancing the safety and security of its citizens while counting in Nigerians to continue to support and work in strong synergy with the Police towards the achievement of our statutory mandate.

Man 'happily' married to 3 women encourages men to marry more than one wife

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 08:58 AM PDT

Fresha Nyambura, Esther Nyaguthii and Agnes Wambui have been married to Charles Macharia for 30 years. The women are now jointly planning the payment of their dowry. They organised an animated ceremony for first wife Nyambura last Saturday, September 26, in Murang'a town, Kenya, that saw them all dance with their husband and explain their unusual set up.

"They respect and listen to me. My authority is never undermined," First wife Nyambura said.
She said they have a systematic way of spending time with Macharia but did not give details. Second wife Nyaguthii said;
"He advised us when he decided to get other wives. We are satisfied; there is no need to cause problems. Men pretend to be faithful while keeping their other wives a secret, but we are all here together."
Third wife Wambui said they love each other and are good friends. The three, who live in different houses, broke down their roles ahead of the dowry ceremony to Macharia, who gave them the money needed. Asked to introduce his family during the event, Macharia began by inquiring about attendants only interested in his polygamy.

He then asked those who attended because of their friendship to raise their hands after which he said;
"Let all my wives come here for introduction."
The businessman then introduced the women in the order in which he married them, followed by his 12 children.
"There is no man here who does not have another wife. Notice how smart they are. You have to wake up early and take care of the family. You cannot laze around, you must work hard."
Macharia said he is satisfied and will now focus on getting more children, and lauded his wives for uniting and living peacefully. It is best for men to declare their other relationships, he said, adding that all was well in his family, and urging men to marry more than one woman. Macharia said plans to pay dowry for Nyaguthii and Wambui were in place.
