Photos: Nigerians arrested in Thailand for producing cocaine Posted: 09 Sep 2015 09:51 AM PDT Two Nigerian men identified as Joseph Uyamadu, 43, and Emanuel Umiano, 33 were on Monday September 7th arrested by Thailand security officials for allegedly producing cocaine at their rented house in a rubber plantation in Ban Khai district of Rayong province. Arrested along with them was their Peruvian accomplice. A search carried out by the police revealed a large portion of cocaine thrown into a flush tank, a bag containing black and sticky substance similar to raw opium, black sheets of substance, corrosive acid, electric grinder, a microwave oven, kerosene, and two cars. The narcotics police officers say test will be carried out on all the substances found in their apartment but it is believed that they are all the raw materials used by the drug syndicates to produce cocaine. They are currently being detained at Ban Khai police station and will be charged to court soon. |
Looks like Chris Brown may have been robbed by his own gang Posted: 09 Sep 2015 09:48 AM PDT Last month Chris Brown's home in Calabasas was broken into by armed bandits who tied up his aunt, stole money and jewelry. New evidence suggests Chris may have been robbed by a street gang called Bloods that he is affiliated to. TMZ reports after the cut... There's a hot lead on who robbed Chris Brown of $50,000 ... and our sources say they're closing in on a few known associates of the Bloods. Law enforcement tells TMZ, they have video of the car that fled Chris' Tarzana house after the robbers held a gun to his aunt's head and made off with the $50k. Some good detective work led cops to a gas station near Chris' home, where they checked surveillance video and saw the getaway car. Our sources say cops now have a partial license plate, which has led them to Compton and someone who may be a member of the Bloods, a group in which Chris has had ties. Detectives are interviewing some of the locals and we're told they're closing in on the culprits. |

Angelina Jolie reveals heartbreaking tale of young girls raped & sold for $40 Posted: 09 Sep 2015 09:21 AM PDT The Hollywood star and UN special envoy who is a long-standing campaigner gave a heartbreaking account of young girls she has met in conflict zones who have been repeatedly raped and sold off for as little as $40 each. The actress appeared alongside former Foreign Secretary William Hague before the House of Lords Committee to speak about their campaign against sexual violence in conflict. "For over 10 years I had been visiting the field and meeting with families and survivors of sexual violence who felt for so long that their voices simply didn't matter – they weren't heard and they carried a great shame. I remember distinctly meeting this little girl, who was very young – probably about 7 or 8 – and she was rocking backwards and forwards and staring at the wall and tears streaming down her face because she had been brutally raped multiple times." She said.According to The Independent, Jolie described how she had felt "absolutely helpless" after meeting one young girl who refused to speak to anyone after being "brutally raped multiple times". She said what was even worse than the physical violence was the feeling of worthlessness they felt when men bartered over their monetary value when selling them off as sex slaves. "More recently I met a 13-year-old girl in Iraq who had been kept in a room with many other girls. They were taken out in twos, brought to this very dirty room with this dirty couch and raped repeatedly. They told me what was even worse than this physical violence was they had to stand in rooms and watch their friends be sold. To hear men arguing over what they were worth. Were they worth $40, $50? What was the price, their value? And how humiliating that was."Updating the committee on progress since then, Angelina said: "The most important thing is to understand what it's not: it's not sexual, it's a violent, brutal, terrorizing weapon, and it is used unfortunately everywhere. The most aggressive terrorist group in the world today knows what we know; knows that it is a very effective weapon and [is] using it as a center point of their terror and their way of destroying communities and families and attacking, destroying and dehumanizing." She added: "I know what would happen to my family if I were raped or my daughters were raped. All of you sitting in this room. What would that do to their lives, to your family structure? You would want to know it was wrong and that the world thought it was wrong and the person who did this to you didn't just walk away." |

Tukur Buratai said; "The task of Operation Lafiya Dole can be seen in three terms, to defeat the insurgents, to facilitate humanitarian activities and observe human right and restore the administrative functions in the liberated area. We are here to formally hand over those arrested in the process of our operations; we are pleased to hand over the 128 suspects that have been cleared by the joint intelligent core, which comprised the Army, the police and DSS. Buhari’s 100 days and invasion of Akwa Ibom Govt House: My Position - Ayo Fayose Posted: 09 Sep 2015 07:56 AM PDT Governor of Ekiti state Ayo Fayose writes below... (must read) President Mohammadu Buhari's government is now 100 days and even though I align with most Nigerians, who opined that 100 days is too short in the life of a government, it is important to make some clarifications as regarding the administration. This is more so that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and some political jobbers that are looking for appointments are praising the President, citing imaginary achievements. As at today, the only achievement recorded by the President Buhari's government is the harassment of leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those perceived as not on the same political page with the president in his party. Former President Goodluck Jonathan and those who worked with him as well as PDP governors and leaders are now targets of harassment, and by this, the president is telling Nigerians that it does not pay to be honourable. Dr Goodluck Jonathan was honourable enough to allow a peaceful transition and conceded to the president even though it was obvious that his victory was questionable. Visiting such a person and those who worked with him with persecution as being done now, is no doubt a sad reminder of the reason we have many sit-tight leaders in Africa. Interestingly, some of those who worked with Dr Goodluck Jonathan that the APC called thieves are now being appointed to manage the affairs of international organisations like the World Bank and African Development Bank. LOPSIDED AND ILLEGAL APPOINTMENTS In the last 100 days of President Buhari, appointments made have shown the president's insensitivity to the ethnic diversity of Nigeria andcontempt for the Constitution of the country. The South-East has been totally neglected as if the likes of Dr Ogbonnaiya Onu who was earlier touted as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and others in the region do not merit appointments. This is unacceptable. Appointment of Buharis's in-law, Mrs Amina Zakari as Acting Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); APC member, Alhaji Lawal Daura as Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS) and Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, clearly violated the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. ANTI-CORRUPTION CRUSADE While I am in total support of the fight against corruption, it is my opinion that corruption can neither be fought along political party lines nor through the media. What is being witnessed presently as fight against corruption is mere noise-making, witch-hunt and harassment of perceived political opponents of the president. This is more so that most of the political allies of the President and those sponsored his election are also being accused of corruption and the president is looking the other way. Most importantly, the Halliburton bribery scandal must be revisited. INVASION OF AKWA IBOM GOVT HOUSE The major sore-point of the 100 days of President Buhari is the last Thursday invasion of the Akwa Ibom State Government House by armed men of the DSS. Nigeria is a Federation, with 36 States Federating Units and in a federation, the component states are in some sense sovereign. Therefore, what happened in Akwa Ibom Government House last Thursday was clearly a government (FG) authorising the invasion of another government (State Government). Even during the dark days of the Military, it never happened in Nigeria. The invasion of Akwa Ibom State Government House by armed men of the DSS deserves condemnation from all men of goodwill, including State Governors. It was Akwa Ibom last week; it could be the turn of any other governor irrespective of political party tomorrow. Today, we are also being informed that it will soon be the turn of Ekiti State. We await Alhaji Lawal Daura's men, but we assure him that Ekiti people will always rise to defend their government. CONCLUSION I commend the president for his efforts at ending the Boko Haram insurgency and I wish to call on all Nigerians to support the President in restoring peace to the Boko Haram ravaged North Eastern part of Nigeria. As we look forward to the end of the honeymoon of Buhari's presidency, I wish to state that if supposed men of honour are going underground because of possible harassment and intimidation, I, Peter Ayodele Fayose will not; because this is our fatherland. Most importantly, those regarding President Buhari as a saint should know that he is not. The president is not also the Almighty God that cannot be questioned. After all, the beauty of democracy is in credible opposition. As for me, I have been comfortable before I became governor and will not because of cheap publicity deceive Nigerians with declaration of cattle herds and mud houses as assets. Today, I have expressed my mind concerning the 100 days of Buhari's presidency as I did before the election. This I have done basically to remind Nigerians that I told them then, and it is happening now. May God be with the President and bless Nigeria. Ayodele Fayose, Governor, Ekiti State |
Many injured as hotel collapses in Delta Posted: 09 Sep 2015 07:58 AM PDT No fewer than seven people sustained injuries after a popular hotel, the Mekaval hotel situated in Effurun-Warri in Delta state collapsed at about 2am today September 9th. The injured were mostly indigenes of neighboring state who had come to the state in search of a miracle at the Christ Mercy Land Church, headed by one Pastor Jeremiah Fufeyin, popularly referred to as 'Ijaw TB Joshua'. Delta state deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro, who visited the scene of the incident attributed the cause of the collapse to structural defect. "The state government has ordered that the hotel be closed immediately to avert further loss of lives. We are going to send engineers straight away. It is very possible that there have been some structural defect ab initio during construction works because that place seems to be a waterlogged area and maybe the proper engineering works were not done." he saidOne of the victims of the incident, Adeza who is an ADC to one of the northern state First Lady, said she was in the state to seek for spiritual help for her many family troubles "I am a Muslim, but I came here to see the man of God.
