Ufuoma, daughter of Insurance guru, O'Tega Emerhor mourns her brother who was murdered 10 years ago

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 01:34 PM PDT

Ufuoma Ashogbon, the first daughter of insurance guru and former governorship aspirant, Olorogun O' Tega Emerhor is celebrating her 34th birthday today which is also the tenth anniversary of the death of her brother, Ijamani. The mother of two also shared some interesting details surrounding the death of the then 18-year-old. She alleged his death was politically motivated because those with him were not harmed.

Born in Nigeria on March 29, Ijamani was murdered on August 2nd, 2006. Read her post after the cut

"Today, I am 34 year old, and I give God all the glory for my life!  By His grace, I am not only a year older, but a little wiser too.  I glorify  Him for all that He has brought me through, and for all the ways He has blessed me in this life.
Ten years ago today, I lost someone very dear and close to me.  I lost my little brother, Ijamani, to gun violence.  One moment he was enjoying the gift of life, even as I was celebrating mine…  The next, his life was stolen from him and from his family and friends who loved him.  There was no moment to say goodbye, or to express to him how much we loved him, or how much we were going to miss him.

Two travesties happened the day he died.  One was that a group of wicked people plotted his murder, and sought him out to kill him. Our belief is that it was politically motivated against my father, because no one else with him was harmed, and nothing was taken. The other travesty was that he was refused care at the first hospital he was taken to, because they didn't have money to pay for his treatment, and so he died on reaching the second hospital.

We live with the  horrors of this life everyday.  That first hospital was never held accountable for my brother's death, and the men who took his life are still roaming free in my country!  A country where it takes bribery for the Police to attend to an urgent plea for help.  Where the excuse of no fuel in their tanks will mean that you do not get the Law enforcement our taxes pay for.  And a world where the absence of money means that your life is valued at nought.

So today, as I celebrate the gift of life I still enjoy, I remember my sweet brother, who was taken from us at the tender age of 18.  #ManiLivesOn in me and in everyone who ever loved him.  He lives in my earthly father, from whom he got is handsome looks and his gentle temperament.  Their likeness was so uncanny in both respects, and I can't help but imagine how great Mani would have been, if our world had been a better place.  My dad is still committed to making Nigeria better through political influence, and using his God-given intellect and wisdom to serve his people.  Mani lives on in the fight for justice and humanity in our country!

Every year I mark my birthday, I have chosen to celebrate life, because I believe life trumps death.  But this year, I choose to mourn my brother, and remember him and the circumstances of his death, and plead with God and man that we should make this our world a better place for the living…  I don't want birthday wishes or gifts or cakes today.  I want to honour my brother.  I want to remember him, and his humble spirit that is so lacking in our world.

Mani was always so caring, so thoughtful and so genuine.  He was not perfect, I know we like to glorify the dead after they are gone, but he was a remarkable young man and everyone who knew him could testify of that.  Mani was one of those people who never held grudges, was always positive and generous with his smiles and acts of kindness.

I wish I had known him more.  But for the better part of his latter years, I was disconnected from my family, living in the UK and trying to understand this thing called life.  I missed real life in pursuit of holiness…and I missed that too.  I am still learning what true holiness means and what it means to be fully alive, and how both can co-exist.  It is only in death that we get a glimpse of the meaning of life…and the importance of being present and attentive to the ones who matter to us.
God, who knows all things and holds the keys to life and death, knows why He allowed my brother to be taken.  I am yet to find meaning in his death, but on the day he was buried I was resolved to not let his death be in vain.  I was resolved to make a difference in my country and in my world.  Today, I am glad that I am doing that through my charity  Fair Life Africa Foundation.  Do visit us and see how you can support our mission to empower people for a fairer life.

Photos: 21-year-old man arrested for attempting to behead his friend for rituals

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 01:33 PM PDT

A 21-year-old man is currently in Police custody in Tema, Ghana for attempting to behead his friend for rituals. Charles Ashitey, also known as Zaga was arrested by some residents of Tema Newtown after his attempt to behead his 19-year-old friend, Daniel Norteye, failed.

According to the Police, on 31st July, 2016, Norteye was tired after a dance rehearsal and decided to spend the night in the room of the suspect...

However, at about 4:00am, Norteye felt a sharp pain on his neck. He woke only to see the suspect, Ayitey holding a knife and cutting his throat. He then struggled with suspect, which resulted in multiple cuts in the victim's palm and abdomen but he was eventually able to escape with the knife and was rushed to his aunt's house where he was taken to the Tema Newtown Police Station to lodge an official complaint. He was then taken to the Tema General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Further investigations in the room of the suspect revealed a stinking beheaded snake, egg shells, and powder, which were sprinkled around the room. A wooden doll was also found in the room as well. When suspect was asked on how he came by those items and why he had sprinkled powder in his room, he said the snake was for a friend who was going to eat it but suspect pleaded with his friend to give it to him.

He was however unable to tell the police what he was going to use the snake and other materials for. Zaga however claimed ownership of the knife, which was retrieved and stated that he did not know what took over him to try to kill his friend. He is currently assisting the police with investigations and will be arraigned before court soon.

Court rules that seizure of Fayose’s properties by EFCC does not violate his immunity

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 01:13 PM PDT

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the order he gave on July 20th authorizing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to seize some properties belonging to Ekiti state governor Ayo Fayose is valid and that the properties must remain seized until investigations by EFCC is completed.

Ruling on an application by Fayose's lawyer, Mike Ozekhome asking the court to set aside the interim forfeiture orders, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba ruled that the order of interim forfeiture did not violate the provisions of section 308 of the Constitution which confers immunity from civil and criminal proceedings on Fayose.
"It is my considered opinion that the order of court, made on July 20, 2016 in respect of some property of the applicant, and within the limited scope and duration within which it was obtained, was duly procured and does not offend the provision of the Constitution referred to.
Although Section 308 of the Constitution serves to isolate governors of states from the distraction of litigation and legal proceedings, to enable them to attend to official responsibilities, it should not be interpreted in such a way as to defeat the fight against corruption, to mean that the EFCC or other investigating agencies cannot take a peep into the assets or personal accounts of a serving governor in the execution of a strictly worded and mutually supervised interim attachment orders for the purposes of obtaining evidence for use in future when the immunity has lapsed."he said ‎
Among Fayose's properties that have been seized are four sets of four-bedroom apartments at Charlets 3, 4, 6 and 9, Plot 100, Tiaminu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos. The two others are at 44 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja and Plot 1504 Yedzeram Street, Maitama Abuja.

"I train eight times a week and I can see how much my body's changed just by looking at old photos.

"I've grown to love my bigger legs and bum – they're vital for bursts of speed. I train to win, but a lean and defined body in the mirror is a bonus."

Danielle Waterman, a full back said:
"I'll always remember trying on my prom dress and being upset at how broad and muscular I was. It was my brother who pointed out that my build was the very thing that would help me achieve my dreams of playing pro rugby for England.

Michaela Staniford, winger, said;

"The 'rugby girl' stereotype doesn't really exist. At 5'8" and just over 11st, I'm quite light – perfect for being lifted to catch the ball.

Video: Don't marry a man who doesn't have a job- Pastor Adeboye advises women

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 08:50 AM PDT

Pastor Adeboye also advised women not to marry a man who has no job.
"Don't marry a man who has no job. Before God gave Adam Eve, he gave him a job. He said this is the garden, keep it. So those who come to you and say sister, thus saith the lord, you are going to be the star in my firmament, ask him what is his job.
If he tells you he is a contractor, ask him to show you evidence of all the contracts he has done because the contract he is talking about is you. He wants to live off you. Don't be a fool. If he hasn't got a steady income, don't marry him. A man is to provide for the house and not the other way round. If he has no income, he should not marry. Those who do not work should not eat and if they can't eat, they can't even marry"he said
