Garba Shehu reacts to reports of FG planning to probe Emir of Kano, Soludo

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, has reacted to reports that the Federal government was planning to probe former CBN governors, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Chukwuma Soludo.

There were reports online over the weekend that the presidency was planning to probe the former CBN chiefs following their recent attacks on the economic policies implemented by this administration. Garba says the Presidency is unaware of such probe.

Court turns down request to release El-Zakzaky

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today turned down the application brought before it by the leader of the Shi'ites Islamic group in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, asking the court to order the Department of State Services, DSS, to release him from detention immediately.

The Islamic leader has been in detention since December last year after some of his members clashed with the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state.

 Ruling on his application, Justice Abang said that Zakzaky ought to have obtained the leave of court for the matter to be heard during vacation.

The Judge held that the leader of the Shi'ites Movement failed to serve the DSS, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, who are respondents in the matter.

Justice Abang, who is sitting as a vacation Judge held that El-Zakzay's application was not competent and he struck it out. El-Zakzaky has been charged with criminal conspiracy and inciting public disturbances.

Photo of the ringleader of a daredevil criminal gang in Delta state lynched by mob

Onoriode Okeribo popularly known as Onos described as the ringleader of a daredevil criminal gang in Delta state, was lynched by an angry mob after he was caught by members of a vigilante group in Edo state over the weekend. He was taken to Oghara community in Ethiope West LGA of Delta State‎ where he was lynched by the mob.

Residents of the community say Onos and his group have terrorized them for years. He is said to be behind the armed robbery, murder for hire, and kidnappings in the area‎ for many years.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu in an interview with Sahara Reporters, confirmed that Onos was arrested in Edo State and has reportedly died by mob lynching. She said the police is now in search of other members of his gang.

Civilian JTF Commander killed in Kaduna

Hoodlums today killed the Commander of Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in charge of Kakuri community, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Buhari Ahmadu Tanko.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, said the deceased was murdered while attempting to stop some hoodlums from stealing from the premises of defunct Kaduna Textile Limited located in his catchment area.

He said the police has launched a full scaled investigation into the matter and that the culprits will soon be fished out to face the full wrath of the law.

The former couple have had a long-standing bitter feud which reached its climax earlier this year with a very public row about sex- but judging by these pictures taken backstage, it looks like they finally have put their past issues behind them.

Black schoolgirls in South Africa protest after being told to straighten their hair

Pretoria Girls High School is facing a furious backlash after instructing black school pupils to straighten their hair. Black school girls claim that they have been subjected to racism and that their blackness has been discouraged. They added that school rules forbid African hairstyles such as afro, Bantu knots, dreadlocks and braids.


#StopRacismAtPretoriaGirlsHigh is currently trending in South Africa. Videos and photos of pupils protesting at the school, one of them sporting an afro, went viral over the weekend

A petition STOP RACISM AT PRETORIA GIRLS HIGH which has over 9,889 signatures so far, has been set up asking the authorities to investigate the school. Part of the petition read:
"Learners at Pretoria High school are demanding that racist practices at the school are brought to an end. Girls attending the school have been forced to straighten their hair; are accused of conspiring when standing in groups and face other intolerable comments and actions"
The Gauteng Department of Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi arrived at Pretoria High School for Girls on Monday to investigate racism allegations by its black learners. He is currently in a meeting with parents, management as well as the school principal Karen Du Toit.

Spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga told DRUM that it is too soon to determine what action will be taken against whom at the school if the girls' concerns are valid.
"I can't have a blanket solution for every time there is an outburst of racism at a school because each case is unique," he says. "We want to know what is going on here before we can make a comment"
The girls also claim they are not allowed to speak their mother tongue and that a teacher called them monkeys when they were singing and chanting in class.

Meanwhile, the situation at the school has escalted with political youth movement gathering outside the main gate. Members of SASCO,COSAS, the African National Congress Youth League and Economic Freedom Fighters tried to force their way into the school premises after the school's management barred parents from coming in to fetch their children.

Donald Trump this morning took to Twitter to ask presidential rival Hillary Clinton to release her 'detailed' medical records saying he would also release his own

Trump has for some time now tried to portray Clinton as without sufficient stamina to serve as president but a Clinton campaign spokes person said Sunday night that Clinton "is the only candidate in the race who has met the standard expected of presidential candidates and provided a detailed medical letter by her long time physician."

"Donald Trump has put forward a laughable letter that omits basic health information including the date of his exam, past medications, family medical history, heart rate, respiratory rate, EKG, or cholesterol level. Instead of continuing to push discredited conspiracy theories, Donald Trump needs to produce a real doctor's letter, written by a credible doctor, that details the state of his health for voters," Glen Caplin said in a Clinton campaign statement .

Clinton recently addressed the claims off 'ill health' when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's show, calling it "part of the wacky strategy"

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan visited Pope Francis in the Vatican city and gifted him a model of a Facebook drone. He also gave the Pope a book about 'people using the internet in new ways'. The tech CEO said it was something he'll never forget. 
 'You can feel the Pope's warmth and kindness, and how deeply he cares about helping people,' he wrote on Facebook alongside pictures from the visit.

He said the drone is symbolic of an ideology he and the Pope share. 
'We told him how much we admire his message of mercy and tenderness, and how he's found new ways to communicate with people of every faith around the world. We also discussed the importance of connecting people, especially in parts of the world without internet access,' Zuckerberg wrote.
The drone, called Aquila, a solar-powered aircraft the social network plans to use in order to give internet access to people in developing countries.
'Together they spoke about how to use communications technology to alleviate poverty, encourage a culture of encounter, and to communicate a message of hope, especially to the most disadvantaged,' the Vatican Press Office said in a statement.

"I am proud of him" - FFK commends Gov. Fayose for signing Ekiti state's Open Grazing prohibition bill into law

Governor Ayo Fayose today signed the Ekiti state Open Grazing Prohibition Bill into law. Under the law, herdsmen are prohibited from grazing their cattle in areas that are not designated for grazing and forbidden from carrying arms. The law prescribes six months imprisonment without option of fine for any herdsman who violates the grazing prohibition while any herdsman found with arms will be charged with terrorism. 

Reacting to the new development in Ekiti state, Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode wrote, 

"I am proud of Gov. Ayo Fayose and the people of Ekiti state for signing into law legislation which bans grazing rights for the Fulani herdsmen in the state and which prevents them from carrying firearms.

By this bold and courageous act Fayose and the Ekiiti State House of Assembly have saved many lives. Every governor in the south and the Middle Belt should find the courage to emulate them and do the same."
