Nigeria to experience solar eclipse tomorrow, public advised to remain calm

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 01:32 PM PDT

A solar eclipse will occur in Nigeria on Thursday, September 1, between the hours of 7:15am and 10:03am with slight variations in actual timing across the country, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA) said.

A press statement by the Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr Felix Ale, appealed to the general public not to panic or attach any spiritual interpretations to this event. He said the eclipse cannot be observed with naked eyes, as this could cause damage.

In the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, there will be a partial eclipse, with an obscurity of 60 per cent, and the first contact at about 7:17am, with maximum eclipse at 8:32am and end at 10:00am.

Lagos will experience its first contact with the eclipse at 7:15am, with a maximum eclipse occurring at 8:32am and ending at about 10:00am. The Agency has arranged a viewing centre tomorrow to enable members of the public, pupils and students from various schools to view the eclipse using specially designed viewing instruments provided by the space Agency.

The viewing centre which has been set up by the Agency will be open to the public on Thursday 1st September, 2016 from 6:45am for school pupils and students to observe the annular eclipse as part of its continuous programmes to expose Nigerians and students to matters concerning astronomical environment.

Photo: Teenager arrested in Ikorodu for allegedly selling bar of soap as mobile phones

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 01:25 PM PDT

The Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, have apprehended an 18 -year-old boy, Segun Adeyefa, for allegedly selling bar of soap as mobile phones to unsuspecting members of public in traffic.

The suspect was arrested by the RRS men on routine patrol of Ikorodu Motor Park yesterday at about 19:50 hrs, while trying to defraud a young man at the motor park.

Upon his arrival at RRS's Headquarters, the suspect confessed that before he was caught on Tuesday, he had duped one person of N3,500 who wanted to buy the phone.

He noted that he was lured into the fraud after he was duped through a similar means about a year ago.

"My action was prompted when I was swindled by two guys about a year ago by this way. I had intention of buying a phone but unknowingly to me it was a cut-to-size bar of soap just looked similar to a phone shape... The two guys approached me on my way to work, then, I was learning a plumbing work somewhere around Ikorodu...  I bought the phone which was advertised to me as 'London used phone' for N2, 500... As I left the place, I checked the phone I bought, to my surprise, I discovered it was a soap I bought for such amount... That very moment I promised myself to revenge by doing same to the people,"  he revealed.

Explaining how he mastered the tactics to swindle unsuspecting members of public through that means, he said "after I discovered that it was a cut-to-size soap I bought as phone, I learnt that tactics by understudying the material.... The item contained cut-to-size soap, carton and wrapped all together with a cello tape."

The suspect who lived at 81, Oriwu Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, further revealed how he perpetuated the fraud under the false pretence of selling a genuine phone.

"What I usually do is called exchange. My prospective victims will have the mind of buying handset from me but unknowingly to them I would have changed the real handset to soap wrapped with cut to size carton put inside an envelope... I will engage them in discussion after showing them real phone initially, and in the process of bargaining for the price, I will change it with the aid of white handkerchief to fake phone... And, I will tell them to keep the phone inside their pockets immediately that people are watching us. As soon as the buyer left the spot, I will immediately change my location by moving to another place."

The suspect further stated that the demise of his master who was teaching him plumbing work, also led to his criminal act.

While confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, warned the general public to be weary of individuals who approach them to buy phones on highways in order not to fall victim of con men.

Items such as fake phones, key soap cut to size, shirts, some amount of money, packet of envelopes and cut to size cartons were recovered from him. The suspect has been transferred to Lagos State Task Force on Environment for prosecution

Dear LIB men, would you agree to a threesome if your girlfriend suggested it?

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 01:12 PM PDT

From a male LIB reader
"My birthday is next weekend and my girlfriend shocked me with a request/question. She asked me if I would be interested in a threesome with her and a friend (female). She said it's her special birthday present to me and it's one off.  Should I accept it? Though I must say that I am suspicious of her motives as I know her to be a very jealous partner and wonder why she's now willing to share me"

Chris Brown accuser was stripped of beauty queen crown for lying

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 12:59 PM PDT

The woman who got Chris Brown arrested yesterday got stripped of her beauty pageant crown earlier this year. TMZ reports below...
Baylee Curran, the woman claiming Chris pulled a gun on her, was crowned Miss California Regional 2016, but 2 months later pageant officials were fed up with her and dethroned her. She was stripped in part because of nude photos that surfaced, and pageant officials say she lied and said it wasn't her.
An official tells TMZ, shortly after she won the title someone sent nude photos to the pageant director, who confronted Baylee, saying, "This is not what the pageant stands for." We're told Baylee insisted it was not her in the photos.

The director told her she'd give her another chance, but we're told Baylee repeatedly screwed up and deceived them. She would fail to show for community functions ... while photographers were tagging photos of her frolicking on a boat. She was also MIA for events ... choosing various photo shoots instead.

The director had enough 2 months into her reign, and told Baylee she was stripping her of her crown, but Baylee shot back, "You're the director. You can make or bend the rules. I'm keeping the crown and we can move on."

She still hasn't returned the crown.

Brazil's first female President Dilma Rousseff impeached; Senate votes 61 to 20 to convict her of breaking budget laws

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 11:23 AM PDT

Brazil's suspended President Dilma Rousseff was impeached today Wednesday August 31 following a 61-20 vote by the country's senate.

Senators broke into protest, cheers and applause after the electronic voting, which went on for hours, was announced. Pro-impeachment senators burst into a rendering of the national anthem, some waving Brazilian flags, while allies of Rousseff stood stony face.

"I will not associate my name to this infamy," read a sign held up by one senator.

68-year-old Rousseff, the country's first female president, will be removed from office and replaced by Vice President Michel Temer, 75. He will be sworn in on Wednesday to serve out her term which extends through 2018.

The impeachment comes two days after Rousseff staged an impassioned defense of her actions on Monday and insisted she was innocent of any wrongdoing in an lengthy speech before the senate. Lawmakers had charged that she breached fiscal rules in an attempt to cover up the nation's budget woes.

"I know I will be judged, but my conscience is clear. I did not commit a crime," Rousseff, told senators on Monday. "I can't help but taste the bitterness of injustice."

Rousseff described the impeachment process, which has been going on for about a year, amounted to an illegal coup.  She said the move was aimed at protecting the interests of the country's economic elite and rolling back social programs that lifted millions of Brazilians from poverty during the last decade.

Recalling how she was tortured and imprisoned in the 1970s for belonging to a leftist guerrilla group, Rousseff urged senators to "vote against impeachment, vote for democracy. Do not accept a coup.

Her opponents, however, have hailed the chance to turn the page on a drawn-out political crisis, the country's worst recession and a sweeping corruption scandal at state oil company Petrobras.

About 50 leftist demonstrators gathered outside the presidential palace to show their support.

"We are protesting against the coup and fighting for democracy," said 61-year-old farmer Orlando Ribeiro.

In the center of the capital, extra security and the closing of avenues near the Senate caused massive traffic jams. Police said they were preparing for large protests later in the day.

Lawyers presenting closing arguments could not hold back their emotions as the clock wound down on a crisis that has paralyzed Brazilian politics for months. A lead lawyer for the case against Rousseff, Senator Janaina Paschoal, wept as she asked forgiveness for causing the president "suffering," but insisted it was the right thing to do.

"The Brazilian people must be aware that nothing illegal and illegitimate is being done here," she said.

Rousseff's counsel, veteran lawyer Jose Eduardo Cardozo, retorted that the charges were trumped up to punish the president's support for a huge corruption investigation that has snared many of Brazil's elite.

"This is a farce," he said in a speech during which his voice alternated between shouts and near whispers. We should ask her forgiveness if she is convicted," he added. "History will treat her fairly. History will absolve Dilma Rousseff if you convict her."

Cardozo said shhe would appeal the impeachment through the Supreme Court. Rousseff is the first Brazilian leader to be dismissed from office since 1992, when Fernando Collor de Mello resigned before a final vote in his impeachment trial for corruption.

Kourtney Kardashian on Kim, Taylor Swift & her relationship with Scott Disick as she graces the cover of Cosmopolitan Mag

Posted: 31 Aug 2016 09:51 AM PDT

Kourtney Kardashian is on the cover of the October issue of Cosmopolitan Mag out on newsstands Sept. 6th. In the exclusive interview, the reality TV star and mother of three opened up about why she doesn't let her kids watch her show, Kim, Taylor Swift, and her relationship with Scott Disick.

On Kim waging a social smackdown on Taylor Swift:
"It's her husband, and he's family. The truth is the truth, so why not let it be known?"

On whether her children watch KUWTK:
"They've seen some of it, but no. I was in the shower, he [Mason] woke up, and it happened to be on. He was like, 'Who is Blac Chyna? And Kiki [Kim] showed Larsa [Pippen] her vagina!' I was like, this is why they don't watch the show. Some of the content is just not appropriate

On her relationship with Scott Disick:
"…the idea of having my family together is amazing, but it's not the way things ended up. They may end up there. I'm not sure. To me, it's in God's hands. If it's meant to be, then things will line up … We definitely tried for a long time. But relationships are exhausting! Being able to focus on the kids and me right now is good. We say to each other all the time, 'I'm the coolest ex-girlfriend/baby mama you could ever ask for!'"
On what will happen when Scott or she gets a new girlfriend or boyfriend:
"That's what I don't know. We're so not there yet."
On future children: "I would have more. I could see myself with six kids. I just don't know what's in God's plan.

Smart Living: The new currency of luxury real estate

The Journey from Post office to Email by Sijibomi Ogundele, CEO Sujimoto Group

Have you ever taken time off the buzz world to imagine what life was like without the techs? I remember having to pay unsolicited visits to Kunle's at inappropriate hours just because I had to catch the latest episode of 'The Rich Also Cry".

It was difficult to understand the art of success, because I didn't know the rich could cry. Back in the 80s when technology was emerging and unaffordable, very few families could buy the black and white TV. Yes, families that had a VCR Player were the neighborhood kings.  Finally when we got our PYE TV set by the beginning of the 90s, I experienced the joy first hand, of waiting for the day's broadcast to start at 4pm. Oh! Those nostalgic colour bars and the incoherent audio of the national anthem playing on NTA!

30 years down the line, technology has redefined our ways of living. The VCR has been substituted with the DVD player, and now "Netflix and Chill" is the order of the day. Television sets have dissolved into ultra-Slim High Definition screens. Steve Jobs, Larry Page & Bill Gates came into market and captured people's imaginations by changing the way the society communicates.   The Internet has shortened travel time of mails across the world, from two weeks by the post office to two seconds by email. With the advent of the digital, we can now stream movies on our mobile phones. Crowds watching ginringory have dissolved into personalized viewings of the latest episode of Game of Thrones. Simply put, the complexities of the 80s have collapsed into the silicon houses in a digital village.

The 2015 change agenda benefited immensely from the digital world, with access to Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms. The same cannot be said for the Nigerian 1993 Presidential Elections, purportedly won by Chief MKO Abiola, which relied heavily on the distribution of flyers across the nation. The tech world is taking over the real world today and Nigeria is not behind, as a small company is taking over the status quo and reconnecting the past with the future.

Tinubu Square, Lagos 1960

Tinubu Square, Lagos 2010

While technological advancements have improved the quality of human lives, it appears the Real Estate Industry, especially in Africa, is slacking. There is no place in the 21st century for any company that ignores its clients' appetites for innovative functionalities, which play huge roles in their buying decisions.

Gone are the days when you could 'conveniently' loose an entire bunch of keys and get new ones just only after going through the frustration of cutting new keys. Wait a minute, do people actually still cut keys?  Today, innovational technologies have given us keyless solutions, which make our phones keys to our apartments.

So, Sujimoto's drive is simple. We realized that the impunity with which mediocrity was being peddled to investors was unacceptable, and we decided to help investors secure true value for their money. To achieve this, we had to do the extraordinary. It took us two years of planning, which involved visiting different condominiums, hotels and houses in different cities across the world, just in search of inspiration and innovation.

Finally Like Apple, Google and Microsoft, Sujimoto is putting an end to architectural slavery, by introducing six game-changers at The LorenzoBySujimoto  that are resetting the standard for  luxury living in Nigeria:

Live-in & Rent-out: Earn almost $100,000 annually with our short let arrangements. If you only live in Lagos for only three months out of the year, your apartment would not be closed for the rest of the year. Rather, you could earn returns by short-letting it out. We have a database of more than 250,000 business travelers. With your permission, your home could earn you returns, while you are away.

Five-Star Hotel Amenities at The Eye of Bourdillon:  Whoever first thought of high-rise luxury architecture was a genius. When you think about it, what we are doing at the Lorenzo is to give the residents a hotel experience in their private homes.  Redefining luxury living at the 1600m2 space of the entire 16th floor, which bestows breath-taking views of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Bourdillon Boulevard, the Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. With an infinity swimming pool where people would think they are swimming in the sky; World class spa; Virtual Golf bar where you can play golf without leaving your building; Olympic-quality fitness center; and one of the world's best restaurant – Novikov.  The 16th floor is the ultimate spice of pure luxury and the right choice for perceptive property enthusiasts who are ready for the fusion of smart living and beauty.

21st Century Home Automation: For the first time in Africa, The LorenzoBySujimoto Development brings smart home automation to the continent. With a 21st century Building Management System (BMS), whether you are in Lagos or London, you can control your apartment from a central command system, open or close your curtains, dim the lights, watch TV from your bathroom or Kitchen, play music; control the AC, TV, lock/Open the doors, activate the security system; all at the touch of a button.  The LorenzoBySujimoto is indeed the 21st century hub for luxury lifestyle.

A Full-Time Dedicated Concierge Team: 24-hour concierge service. Be it the need to dry-clean your clothes, or to pick a guest from the airport on a short notice or even to schedule an in-room spa treatment; The LorenzoBySujimoto is completely tech-driven with intelligent mobile technology that alerts the concierge team of every request, and sends push notifications to update residents on their orders. Just like a 5-star luxury hotel, with a world-class concierge team, the Motomatic Facility Management will partner with an international hotel management company, dedicated to ensuring that your condominium experience makes you feel like you are in the Four-seasons. With a Minimart that understands each residents' shopping habits, your groceries would be delivered to your door step within an hour of request.

2 Tech-driven Pedini& Armani Kitchens – Wet & Dry: Most condominiums in Africa have a fancy Kitchen. But then, Sujimoto wanted to go the extra mile. We think having a kitchen built by a designer is the difference between driving a Toyota and a Bentley. For the first time in Nigeria, a luxury apartment, the LorenzoBySujimoto would have two euro-styled gourmet kitchens, 2 and 3bedrooms by Pedini Kitchens, then the 4beds and the penthouse by ArmaniDada. Eat your breakfast, sandwich or have a glass of wine at the open-kitchen (dry kitchen); or cook your Ogbono soup in your wet kitchen with a sophisticated smell proof ventilation system. The two kitchen styles allow for creation of cuisines from diverse continents. The intention is to bring convenience and fun to cooking, such that residents can tune in to their favourite TV shows while cooking, or browse for a new recipe online without leaving the comfort of their kitchens.

Premium Location: Location, Location, and Location. This is a cardinal rule of real estate. So, if you get it right, you are a KING. Located in one of the most exclusive roads in Ikoyi, Bourdillon – the luxury hub of Nigeria; the LorenzoBySujimoto injects extraordinary lifestyle to the city by providing similar, sophisticated lifestyle as experienced in the Burj Arab Dubai or St Regis in the NYC.

The LorenzobySujimoto development is not only about luxury lifestyle. It is a project where investors can kill two birds with one stone. The first benefit is that investors enjoy huge returns on their investments by taking advantage of the off-plan sales, while the second is that they get to enjoy living the luxury lifestyle, the first-of-its kind, in Nigeria.

Understanding the need for innovation and changing consumer experiences is what Sujimoto Construction has mastered.  At Sujimoto, we do not sell houses, we sell lifestyle, by taking advantage of technological innovations that push the boundaries of residential lifestyle experiences in Africa. With a team of world-class Electrical Engineers who have impressive backgrounds in Building Management System, we are indeed unstoppable. We have only one mission; to bring innovative experiences from all parts of the world into Nigeria's first fully automated building –The LorenzoBySujimoto Development – a first class condominium of Luxury Apartments. The new 26 Storey Lorenzo tower will be the tallest residential building in Lagos. It is also the smartest, most luxurious high-rise building in Africa's history.

Sujimoto's vision for the LorenzoBySujimoto development is to change the way people live, by bringing the best of the world to the center of Lagos. As the world embraces technology, it goes without saying that Developers in Africa, who do not evolve with the changing trends, would have to change their professions.
