| Photos: Woman and her three children killed in horrific crash Posted: 11 Aug 2016 01:48 PM PDT  Three children were killed alongside their mother in a horror crash involving eight vehicles on the A34 near Oxford on Wednesday, August 10 Tracy Houghton, 45, was travelling with her two sons - Ethan, 13, and Josh, 11 - as well as her partner's daughter Aimee Goldsmith, 11, when the family's car was crushed between two HGVs, according to witnesses.  Aimee's father Mark Goldsmith was following in the car behind and saw the fatal crash. George Maguire 70, a distant relative of Mr Goldsmith, said: "The family are all just heartbroken. Mark saw everything. He was travelling in the car behind." Investigators worked through the night to gather evidence and remove the wreckage from the northbound carriageway of the A34, at East Ilsley, as tributes today poured in for the family, from Dunstable, Bedfordshire. A school friend of one of the children said: "Today one of the most horrible things happened. One of the most innocent and nicest boys I know got killed in a car crash on the A34 along with his brother, sister and their mum. All gone, took too soon." Another school friend of the boys added: "R.I.P. I have known you since year 5 you were such a good friend and now you are truly missed by all rest in perfect paradise." The family of four were pronounced dead at the scene and a fifth man airlifted to hospital was in a serious condition. Medics treated nine people at the scene for minor injuries and a man and teenage boy were taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital. They have since been discharged. Chief Inspector Henry Parsons, from Thames Valley Police, said: "Can I ask anyone who witnessed the collision, including anyone travelling on the southbound carriageway who saw anything they believe is significant, to contact police." A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "A 30-year-old man from Andover was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until October 5. |

| Rio Olympics: Ethiopian swimmer speaks out about being dubbed a "whale, fat and tubby" Posted: 11 Aug 2016 01:12 PM PDT  Ethiopian Olympic swimmer Robel Kiros Habt was being branded a "whale" following his poor performance at the Rio Games and his extra weight. He finished last in the Preliminary Men's 100m Freestyle heats at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium. The 24 year old was the only one of the 59 entrants in the heats not to complete the distance in under a minute. He was ranked 59th with a time of 1 minute 4.95 seconds.  Viewers made fun of the Ethiopian athlete's body shape and compared it to his competitors. Some were particularly harsh in their commentary by dubbing him a "whale" and "fat". Media reports referred to him as "tubby, "chubby" and "overweight". The Daily Mail even invited readers to "meet Robel the whale" The Ethiopia-based university student, whose entry for Rio was secured on a special invitation from world body FINA (International Swimming Federation) extended to athletes from under-represented countries, on Wednesday spoke about how the criticism had affected him.  "It has been difficult," he told the Daily Mail. "Too difficult, I don't know how I feel, but many things. Some of the things people have said or written are not nice. I am a nice person, I would not say these things about others. They have used dirty language against me and called me fat and a big man and a whale," he said. Habte, who says he is now retiring from Olympic swimming, told Daily Mail that he had put on weight after a car accident forced him to break from his training schedule. The swimmer, who now weighs 179lb, also said he had expected to finish in last place having never trained in an Olympic-sized pool Prior to the Olympics Habte's best time was 59.9 seconds. According to the Telegraph, "It may be some time before Habte is described as 'sculpted' or 'chiselled', and he has no plans on competing again, but he will always be an Olympian. For him, Rio was never about the winning, only the taking part "I am so happy because it is my first competition in the Olympics… I wanted to do something different for my country, that's why I chose swimming. Everybody, every day you wake up in Ethiopia, you run. Not swimming. But I didn't want to run; I wanted to be a swimmer." |

| APC Politician/University Lecturer reportedly assassinated by gunmen in Benue Posted: 11 Aug 2016 01:00 PM PDT  Wilfred Aondosoo Tondo, an APC member and aspirant for the Buruku Local Government Area, was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen at his residence in Gboko in the early hours of the today. Before his death, Mr. Tondo was a lecturer at the Political Science department in the University of Mkar, a Christian institute located in Mkar, Gboko town in Benue state, and two time SUG president of Benue State University.  According to the Information and Communication Officer of the University, Suemo Shagba, the gun men numbering about four stormed the house of the late lecturer, located within University staff quarters at about 4 am and shot him in the presence of his wife. He was rushed to Myom hospital but later transferred to Benue state University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi (BSUTH) before he died . |
| Posted: 11 Aug 2016 12:50 PM PDT   Two bombs have exploded in the Thai resort of Hua Hin, killing at least one and injured 12, including foreign tourists. The bombs were hidden in plant pots and detonated by mobile phones, the police said, according to the BBC's Jonathan Head. Hua Hin, a coastal resort on the Gulf of Thailand, is popular with foreign and Thai visitors. Authorities are said to have confirmed one fatality and said those injured are in a serious condition, according to Channel News Asia. Both bombs were planted at a bar in Soi Bintabaht. One eyewitness report said a foreign man with his wife and child had been badly hurt. "They had bones sticking out of legs according to local people" Edward Wiek said on Twitter.       |
| LIRS Clampdowns on tax defaulters....18 companies shut down Posted: 11 Aug 2016 12:50 PM PDT  The affected Hotels and Restaurants were reported to be owing the State a cumulative sum of ninety one million one hundred and fifty seven thousand, two hundred and eighty six Naira, seventy five Kobo (N91, 157,286.75).  According to him, failure to deduct and remit taxes as and when due attracts very serious penalties that may lead to the sealing and the seizure of the goods and chattels of the affected entities. He said the LIRS gives a long rope by issuing multiple notices to the taxpayers to inform and also remind them of their tax liabilities and only recalcitrant taxpayers are shut down as in the present case. He therefore urged all business entities operating in the state to ensure prompt remittance of their taxes to avoid the costly disruptions that could be visited on their businesses as a result of a distrain exercise. Earlier in the year, the chairman of LIRS, Mr. Folarin Ogunsanwo had urged Lagosians to comply with the relevant tax laws of the country , saying Lagos state will not hesitate to bring to justice any defaulting individuals and corporate bodies as the capacity of LIRS is not in doubt. | Photos/Video: Man shoots woman four times in the middle of a crowded store Posted: 11 Aug 2016 12:46 PM PDT  Chalinthorn Wattanasap was shopping inside the convenience store located in her condo development in Bangkok's southwestern district of Bang Khun Thian district at 8pm when Pichai Tangchit, also 35, suddenly appeared next to her. After speaking for just a few seconds, he produced a gun and shot her point blank four times in the middle of the crowded store.   The gunman fled the scene on his Honda motorcycle. Chalinthorn was later pronounced dead at the Hospital. Bangkok Police Chief said a court has approved an arrest warrant for Pichai on a count of first-degree murder and his officers are searching for the suspect. He believed the man was driven by a personal issue with the deceased.     |

According to CrossRiverWatch, Reverend Agianpuye said he when he discovered the child, he sent some youths to find the mother but they couldn't find her. Rev. Agianpuye reported the matter to the Obudu division of the Nigeria Police Force before he took the boy back home to take care of him. The woman returned later to pick up her child. |

| Posted: 11 Aug 2016 07:47 AM PDT  The supposed overdue feud between both actors is reportedly causing conflict amongst cast and crew members of the movie. Some of the crew members are said to have sided with The Rock after he spoke out against Vin, as Vin's antics have upset a number of people who work on the set of the action franchise. Production sources told TMZ The Rock had been upset with Vin's work ethic for "a long time", with the actor frequently 30- 60 minutes late to shoot scenes, and it wasn't because he was late to the set, he was simply in his trailer and wouldn't come out until he was ready to. It was also claimed the start time on Mondays was shifted to 10am to accommodate Vin as he didn't like to start the week with a 7am call. The crew felt Vin's arrogance was out of control, especially because he had a producer title, he wouldn't listen to anyone and would goad people, including The Rock, by criticizing their acting. In contrast, the same insider praised The Rock as the "ultimate professional", who was always on time, easy to work with, and always nailed his scenes. Vin and Rock have been clashing for a long time and it became more serious when The Rock made a post on Instagram in which he called Vin a 'Candy A**' man, Vin confronted Rock in his trailer, but their issues still remains unresolved. |
