'Imposition of Ali Modu-Sheriff is PDP's biggest mistake since conceding election to Buhari" - FFK replies Doyin Okupe

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 02:03 PM PDT

After the Police sealed the proposed venue of the PDP Convention in Port Harcourt this morning, Former Minister of Aviation, Femi-Fani-Kayode, reacted via Facebook, saying the imposition of Ali Modu Sheriff as National Chairman of the party, even though he warned them against it, was PDP's mistake, as the APC led government would not allow the convention to hold, especially since Sheriff is allegedly working for them. (Read here)...

Former Media aide to former president Jonathan, Doyin Okupe then reacted via his own page, stating that APC and President Buhari are not to be held responsible for the failed National Convention slated for today in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Rather the blame should rest squarely on the failure of internal conflict resolution machinery of the PDP, the surprising naivety and desperation of many to seize power and control the party, and the gullibility of majority of the followership. (Read here)

FFK has now politely replied Doyin Okupe, insisting that the biggest mistake PDP ever made since conceding power to Buhari, was the imposition of Ali Modu Sheriff, by the Governor's forum. See more of his tweets after the cut.

EFCC re-arrests and detains former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 01:33 PM PDT

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today re - arrested the former governor of Imo State Achike Udenwa in connection with alleged campaign scandal at the last presidential election. Udenwa as a State Co-ordinator for The Presidential Campaign Organisation in Imo State was said to have collected the sum of N350,000,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira Only) from the former senator representing Kaduna South and Director of Finance for the PDP presidential campaign organisation, Nenadi Usman.

The suspect, in his statement to the Commission admitted receiving the money via Diamond Bank account No.0058805692 and 005950791 respectively on the 14th and 28th of January 2015 in three separate instalments. He added that the money came from a company named Joint Trust Dimension Limited. This same company was charged alongside MrS Nenadi Usman and the Media Director of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani Kayode before Federal High Court Lagos on a similar allegation.

Investigation however revealed that Achike Udenwa and one Viola Onwuliri, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Minister for Education, who was his deputy at the Presidential Campaign Organization were the two signatories to the Diamond Bank account that received the money.

Upon his arrest, Udenwa was immediately granted administrative bail by the commission with condition that he should be reporting to the commission at an appointed time. But while enjoying his administrative bail, Udenwa chose to deliberately skip reporting, thereby compelling the commission to revoke his administrative bail pending his arraignment soon.

Achike Udenwa was a governor of Imo State under the flagship of People's Democratic Party between 1999 and 2007 and became a minister of Commerce and Industry between 2008 and 2010 under Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 12:36 PM PDT

Team Nigeria captain and Chelsea FC of England midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that Nigeria beating Brazil at Atlanta 1996 was what inspired him to become a professional footballer. And Mikel feels if the Under 23 team wins gold in Rio it'll inspire another generation of young footballers in Nigeria.
"I remember a little . I remember that day I was sleeping , my father woke me up. I remember the goals," Mikel told TV Globo. "This inspired me to take the game seriously and to be who I am today . I hope we can now win gold again to inspire young children in Nigeria."
Mikel, 29, has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Europa League and African Cup of Nations, but no Olympic gold.
"It is something missing in my career. I never played the Olympics, this is my first . My goal here is to win the gold medal, it is what moves me. Coming here I spoke to the coach, we are all here walking in the same direction, me, him and the rest of the players . "That's the reason I'm here. I hope to return to the house with gold."

34 year old American singer, Britney Spears is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month, for the first time in nine years, MTV announced on their website on Tuesday night.
The network announced the news through a video which showed a python slithering its way around Spears' dressing room — and obvious ode to her iconic 2001 performance and says she will turn heads at this year's performance.

"The VMAs don't just give you a stage, they give you a story. Some way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever," the songstress said in the video. Before you know it, it's history. Before you know it, it's Britney, b----," she continued.
The 34-year-old's comeback will see her perform her new single, "Make Me," with rapper G-Eazy.
The last time she performed at the VMA's was in 2007, and the performance was a woeful one as she lip synced and danced off beat, a performance that was dubbed her comeback performance after completing rehab and infamously shaving her head.

The highly anticipated premiere of 93 Days will take place at the TIFF on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 9.30PM at the Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

93 Days has been labelled as one of the most important movies to come out of Nigeria. The true-life movie details the Ebola epidemic in Nigeria, which had the entire nation at a standstill.

The movie gives a true account of how Nigeria was faced with the first case of the Ebola Virus and the victory the country achieved when the disease was eradicated after 93 Days.

Ebola found its way to Nigeria when American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer (Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey) collapsed at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and was rushed to First Consultant Hospital for exhibiting symptoms of fever. After careful observation, the team at First Consultant Hospital led by Dr Ameyo Adadevoh (Bimbo Akintola) believed Mr Sawyer's illness was more severe than fever and not long enough; he was diagnosed with the Ebola Virus Disease. Then, the journey began on how to control the spread of the life-threatening virus that could result into a national outbreak.

"93 Days is a masterfully crafted incredible story of bravery and sacrifice and is definitely a must see. It showcases the best of Nigeria, it's powerful, gripping and an emotive piece. I am proud. " – Bolanle Austen Peters, Producer, 93 Days.

The suspense filled thriller directed by award-winning movie director, Steve Gukas features the best of international and African movie acts such as TIFF rising star, Somkele Iyamah Idhalama, Danny Glover, Tim Reid, Alastair Mackenzie, Bimbo Akintola, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Bimbo Manuel, Charles Okafor, Tina Mba, Gideon Okeke, Paul Adams, Francis Onwochei amongst others.

93 Days is a powerful movie that details defeat, triumph, heroism and a country's determination to protect its people. With the expertise of talented producers, cast and crew, Nigeria tells its own story through film.

The film was produced by Steve Gukas, Pemon Rami, Bolanle Austen-Peters and Dotun Olakunri.

Nigeria wins medal galore at the Festival of India!

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 09:06 AM PDT

This is a  sponsored post...
The much-anticipated Festival Of India has come to stay. Period! The parade was a total showstopper, as three gigantic hand pulled chariots from the ancient city of Orissa towered high into the Lagos skyline. Only a cluster of birds flew higher. But wait, these were not birds at all; they were drones -cameras in the skyes! After all this was the only way the event could have been filmed. The parade was a human sea stretching as far the eye could see.

Igbokiti from Western Nigeria slugged it out with the Kerala Samaj – an ethnic group from Southern India. While the Durbar Horsemen raced with their Punjabi counterparts from Northern india – heavily bearded, Powerbiking, turbaned and screaming Punjabis who added spice to the blend! What entertainment! This showstopper could be Nigeria's premier international tourist attraction. The Igbokiti cultural group won 1st prize in the Parade category, while the Oriya Samaj won 1st prize in the Chariot Design category.

But we've only just started! What about the Indo-Nigerian EXPO that followed? And the concert nko? Phase two of the Festival was an international EXPO, with up to one hundred and fifteen corporate bodies, ethnic exhibitors and retailers taking stalls at the TBS grounds. The Lagos Ministry of Commerce also accompanied 15 SMEs to the venue, to help showcase their works in the international arena. Sponsors like MTN, Airtel, GTB, Godrej and Z-World were bustling with activity. The food court occupied a section of the grounds and you could buy anything from Briyani, capatis, assorted masalas, you name it.  Honestly I was a bit of a greedy pig. I asked for a takeaway pack so my wife would know what she just missed! As I moved along the stalls I encountered the much-advertised fashion and jewelry section. Yes, all those Bollywood sarees, Punjabi suits, trinkets and whatnot where all available at affordable prices. All the stalls of the Festival of India were beautifully decorated and the prize of best stall went to the Rajasthani Samaj. A word of advice to the organisers here. Never plan such an event in the rainy season. Twice it started drizzling and I was afraid for the worst. Luck shinned on them that Saturday. But it was risky.

Finally dusk ushered in the final leg of my adventure at the Festival Of India – the concert. The performances began with colourful children from the various Indian Samajas and cultural shows from all over India. Up-and-coming acts like Aditi (Nigeria) and Pandey (India) were also given an opportunity. Pandey surprised and thrilled the Nigerian audience with his rendition of Emergency from Dbanj and other Nigerian songs in Nigerian languages. Top Bollywood star, Yuvika and Anup Jalota, as well as Nigeria's Sammy Okposo, Tee Mac and his Gold Convention, Ara and Pasuma were in a class of their own. Nollywood personalities such as Desmond Elliot ,Tina Mba and Saheed Balogun to name a few, spent precious moments sharing thoughts with their Bollywood counterparts in the special Artists' green room.

The surprise of the day must have been when Yamuna, a Nigerian dancer (Eastern Nigeria), who had studied in India, took the lead in the Indian classical dance category. Yamuna was brisk and controlled, with intricate finger gestures, characteristic of the complex Kathak style. Even the Indian audience was held spellbound by her footwork. Yamuna had chosen a particularly difficult repertoire and I believe this is what earned her the title. While Nigerians await medals in the ongoing Rio Olympics, we'll just have to make do with this! Well-done madam for making us proud.

In an interview,  Bolaji Rosiji, Chairman of Gaurapad Charities (the official sponsor of the Festival) and Chairman of the Festival organizing committee. He had this to say:
"Now that the festivities have taken off, we're asking Nigerians to please join us as we embark on a collaborative project for the revival of our SMEs in Lagos State. We need to come out of this unprecedented economic crisis by building Nigeria from the bottom up. The largest economy in Africa (Nigeria) and the second largest SME network in the world, India, will partner for mutual benefit.

FG approves four oil wells for Lagos, to commence payment of 13% derivation fund

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 08:57 AM PDT

The Federal Government today announced that four out of the five Aje oil wells have been approved for production of crude oil in Lagos. A team led by the Chairman of the Indices and Disbursement Committee of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Aliyu Mohammed, paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

Mohammed told Governor Ambode that the committee was in Lagos to verify crude oil and gas production from Aje Oil Wells for the purpose of disbursement of the 13 per cent Derivation Fund to the state in line with the Nigerian Constitution. He said the Commission had set-up an Inter-Agency technical Committee comprising of the RMAFC, DPR, Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation and the National Boundary Commission to determine the location of the Aje Oil Wells.

Mohammed said the Technical Committee recommended that for the purpose of the Derivation Fund as spelt out under Section 162 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as well as the provision of the Allocation of Revenue Act 2004, number 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Aje Oil Wells fall within 200m isobaths and therefore should be attributed to Lagos State.

Governor Ambode described the visit as historic as it was the official step that would take Lagos to that final destination as an oil-producing state.
"We are very glad to receive this delegation. We also want to thank the Federal Government, most especially President Muhammadu Buhari for making this to happen very promptly. I want to say that this has been the promptest action that has been taken by RMAFC since I have known the Commission. I used to be a former Account General so I had a lot of transactions and relationship with the institution called RMAFC. Within a span of about 60 days of when we wrote our letter, and even before we wrote the letter, this technical committee was actually set up. It gladdens me to say that the institution works and is working for the good of Nigeria" he said

Indian official says it's harassment for man to stare at woman for 14 seconds

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 08:46 AM PDT

Senior Kerala IPS officer Rishi Raj Singh has caused uproar with his comment that if a man stares at a woman for 14 seconds he can be charged with harassment. Indian social users who found the comments rather hilarious have been trolling him on twitter via the hashtag #FreedomToLive #14seconds

Singh stated this while addressing a state-level empowerment programme for students at Kochi on Sunday. He also asked the girls and women to carry knife or pepper spray in their handbags for self-defence.

"Do you carry a knife or chilly or pepper spray in your bags? if you don't the time is long overdue for you to do so," he reportedly told the participants.

Martial arts is another option of self-defence for women, he added exhorting women to instantly react and inform the police if they were harassed by men.

Reacting to Rishi Raj Singh, Sports minister EP Jayarajan termed the comments as "disgusting". He even said that he would ask the excise minister to examine the speech made by the IPS officer.

However there were some who came out in his support. 'What Rishiraj Singh told students shouldn't be a subject of trolling. His message, 'girls be proactive', is clear & you should be with him,' tweeted NS Madhavan, a Malayalam writer.

APC, Buhari not to blame for failed PDP convention- Doyin Okupe

Posted: 17 Aug 2016 08:34 AM PDT

Former Media aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, says that APC and President Buhari are not to be held responsible for the failed National Convention slated for today in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. He said this in a statement he released this afternoon. Read below
The failed PDP convention cannot and should not be blamed on our political adversaries. Rather the blame should rest squarely on the failure of internal conflict resolution machinery of the Pdp, the surprising naivety and desperation of many to seize power and control the party, and the gullibility of majority of the followership, who have become entrenched in the cesspool of pervasive impunity of our leadership over the years. However it is commendable that the NEC threw sentiments aside and extended the tenure of the controversial caretaker commuter by one year and allowed for future expansion of the membership of the committee.
The import of this is that the party has now officially jettisoned the "Microwave" strategy, hitherto, employed by the leadership, and allowed for ample time to address all issues. By allowing for new inclusions into the members of the caretaker committee, the leadership obviously has made room for possible reasonable negotiation with the Senator Amodu Sheriff 's group, which is inevitable and a political imperative, if the party must remain United.

Again, this is neither the time for victory songs nor a season for political vendetta. This is time for seeking lasting and honest peace, time to rebuild from current ashes of flames of the inferno, of political opportunism, greed, selfishness and blatant brigandry and impunity.

There may just be another chance to do it again especially now that our adversaries are burning their political access card.

Long live the PDP.
Long live the Federal republic of Nigeria.
