NFF vs Sports Minister: NFF rejects Dalung's insinuations that the Olympic team wasn't stranded in Atlanta

Posted: 19 Aug 2016 12:53 PM PDT

The Nigeria Football Federation has strongly rejected insinuations made by the Minister of Sports Barr. Solomon Dalung in a recent TV interview that the Nigeria Olympic football team being stranded in Atlanta, was a hoax.

In the interview on Thursday, Dalung hinted that shady deals by the NFF were behind the country's football team being stranded for several days at their training base in Atlanta, before they finally made their way to the Olympics in Brazil.

"The Atlanta event was quiet dirty and some of the actors (involved) cannot stand before Nigeria (to answer to these charges)," Dalung alleged. "The event of Atlanta was another attempt to rip the country off."
After hearing of the interview, Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande said everyone in the NFF was shocked on the allegations made by the Sports Minister seeing that the NFF President Amaju Pinnick has been giving the sports minister constant updates since the minister arrived in Rio de Janeiro.
"The NFF Board and Management are taken aback by these insinuations. The NFF President has been telling us of meeting between him and the Minister on how to avoid the kind of situation we got into in the USA in the future. So, the Minister's latest statements are a bombshell.' Yahaya told theNff.com.
"We are not openly challenging the Minister, but we must set the records straight. To start, we do not have any partnership with Delta Airlines, a company that we owe much gratitude for the way it came to the rescue to airlift our team to Brazil. The names of NFF's partners and sponsors are known to the public.
"Secondly, the NFF is not aware of any receipt that was presented to the Minister for airlifting the U23 team from Atlanta to Manaus. I am aware that the Minister himself requested for the phone number of our FIFA Match Agent (Mr. Jairo Pachon, who has been working with the NFF since 2009) when everybody became desperate about how the team would go to Brazil. The NFF President gave him the phone number, and the Minister himself asked Mr. Pachon to go ahead and charter an aircraft, and Pachon reverted that the amount would be $174,000, as against the $300,000 that was bandied earlier. However, the money did not reflect in the airline company's bank account within the deadline it gave to us, so the service was cancelled. We insist that Mr. Pachon acted in the best interest of Nigeria."
Yahaya-Kwande also talked about allegations that the NFF bloated the team list that flew to Rio in order to carry 'their own people'.
"As I speak with you, the only NFF top officials at the Olympics are the NFF Technical Director and the NFF President. I would like to be proved wrong on this.
"The NFF Board has always displayed integrity in all its financial dealings and have always communicated to the Minister on every financial transaction and detail. On this too, we would like to be proved wrong."

American Bulldog mauls 3 year old boy to death, dog owner arrested by police (photos)

Posted: 19 Aug 2016 12:20 PM PDT

A 3 year old boy, Dexter Neal has died after being bitten savagely by an American bulldog in Essex, England. T
he owner of the dog, a 29 year old woman has been arrested by Police for allowing her dog to be left dangerously out of control with a toddler.

The cute youngster was bitten in a property in Parker Way, Halstead, at 5.40pm yesterday and died after sustaining injuries.
The victim

Paramedics rushed to the scene on Thursday evening and desperately tried to save the child's life after screening the youngster from neighbors.

The child was then airlifted to hospital but tragically died from his injuries.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Family liaison officers have been deployed to support the family and we strongly request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

A man who lives close by, and didn't wish to be named, said he saw Dexter's mother run to a local shop following the attack to pick up a defibrillator.
"My kids were playing out the front of the house. The boys mum came running screaming and shouting 'my boy's not breathing. I need the machine'. She got it and ran back with two people following her.
Later on the air ambulance landed on the field at the back. Every one came out to see what was going on.
"Two paramedics came through with the child. They screamed for everyone to get out of the way. They were doing CPR as they were moving him. Sadly it was too late. They covered him with a blanket. It wasn't a sight I wanted to see any way."
According to police, they saw a woman coming out of the house carrying a "bloody child" in her arms moments after the animal was dragged from the property with "its face covered in blood".

Scott Howell, 19, who called the police after realising what had happened, said: "They have only had the dog about a week because we heard it barking.
"It was a very big dog with short white fur. It looked like a pitbull. I heard this terrible screaming and thought it was kids playing in the garden, but then I thought this is going on a bit too long. I went to my parents' bedroom window facing the house and that is when I saw the man dragging the dog out. Its face was covered in blood. That is when I thought I need to call the police. As I was describing what was happening to the police I saw a woman come out of the house and she was holding a very bloody child in her arms. She quickly went back in the house. I could hear the man counting 'one two three four' like they were doing CPR. The whole while the woman was crying her eyes out sitting in front of the house. The dog was taken away and put into a police van. "I then heard the air ambulance come and that's when I left to go shopping around 6.30pm."
Bill Lambert from the Kennel Club (an organization that breeds and trains dogs), said: "The Kennel Club is extremely saddened by the tragic death of the young boy, and our thoughts and deepest condolences go to his family.
"Whilst we do not know the circumstances regarding the incident our advice to dog owners is to always ensure that children and dogs are supervised when together and that dogs are kept under proper control at all times. We would stress that the breed of dog is largely irrelevant and that far more important is the way that any dog is reared, socialised and trained. Any dog breed can be a wonderful pet or potentially dangerous in the wrong hands, which is why it is critical to have the correct training and socialisation.

PDP replies APC Chairman, says Buhari's performance thus far has been shambolic

Posted: 19 Aug 2016 09:16 AM PDT

PDP has replied the Chairman of APC who in a statement released by his media aide, Segun Dipe, said the opposition party lacked the moral basis to comment on the current state of the economy since the party's policies brought the country to its present state.

PDP in its reply, listed the economic indices of Nigeria before the Buhari-led government came in. The party stated that President Buhari's performance thus far has been shambolic and has revered the gains they made when they were in power. Read the statement after the cut...

We read the statement by Chief John Oyegun, chairman of APC, to the effect that PDP has no right to speak about President Buhari's economic failures & felt compelled to respond for record purposes.  First of all, Section S39 CFRN guarantees all Nigerians the right to freedom of expression. Chief Oyegun and his party would do well to stop its many attempts at violating this right. Secondly, we will not follow Chief Oyegun's path by responding with an invective rejoinder. However, as lawyers say, we will let the facts speak for themselves. For the avoidance of doubt these are some of the economic indices inherited by the Buhari admin:

a.    No 1 destination for Foreign Investment in Nigeria with $395m in investments in Q1 2015 alone.

b.    Inflation at single digit interest rates for several years. It was 9.6% at the inception of the @MBuhari admin.

c.    A GDP that had grown at an average of 8% p/a in the last 10 years. Nigeria is currently experiencing its first negative GDP growth since the return of Democracy in 1999.

d.    A telecoms sector that has received more than $32b in investment since 2001.

e.    The largest economy in African valued at over $500b.

f.    An economy that was managing successfully dealing with its unemployment challenges

g.    An economy that had successfully increased per capita income from $299.4 in 1999 to $2640 in 2015.

h.    A stock market valued at N11.66t. The Nigerian Stock market has lost more than N1.3t of its value since the inception of the Buhari admin.

i.     An economy that had reduced its food import bill from well over N1t to N684.7 billion as at December 2013 & and was on target to meet its target of producing 20million MT of food annually.

j.    An economy that was diversifying by exponentially increasing non-oil revenue for the federation.

k.    A successfully unbundled power sector with an inductive environment for investment.
l.    An economy that had successfully reduced its personnel cost over the last 5 years.

m.    Several tools for combating corruption such as IPPIS, TSA, GIFMIS, EFCC & ICPC.

In the past year, the APC led FG has detained & publicly accused Col. Sambo Dasuki & members of our party for corruption. We find it surprising that the FG is asking for secret trials for the accused persons. We urge the FG to try them openly & in respect for the rule of law. We feel compelled to remind Chief Oyegun that not all monies generated from crude oil sales accrue to the Federal Government. Monies from crude sales accrue to Nigeria & its various JV partners. What accrues to Nigeria is then shared between the FG, States & LGAs subject to the deduction of operational expenses. It is either a rookie mistake, or deliberate misrepresentation to state that the Jonathan admin could not account for money it is under no obligation to account for. Having said that, we urge the @MBuhari admin to audit NNPC if he feels the need to & to prosecute anyone found guilty of misappropriation of public funds according to the law.  There are NO economic indices anywhere in the world by which the Buhari admin can be rated better than ours'. His performance as President thus far has been shambolic and on a daily basis he reverses the gains we have made.  Chief Oyegun should be reminded that we handed over a significantly better Nigeria to Buhari than we received from the military. Chief Oyegun should also be reminded that president played a significant role in the state of Nigeria handed over to us – first as Head of State between 1983 & 1985, then as a member of the government of the Late General Sani Abacha.  Chief Oyegun would be better served to advice the president on how to reverse the recession he has brought on us. Or how to resolve the humanitarian crises in the North East. Or how to reverse the polio outbreak recently discovered in Nigeria after our policies had seen a complete eradiction of polio from more than half of the world's polio cases in 2009 to 6 in 2014 & 0 in 2015.  We would like to give Chief Oyegun the compliments of our warmest regards.

Goodnight to PDP- Obasanjo says

Posted: 19 Aug 2016 09:12 AM PDT

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo today said he has bid goodnight to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which he was a founding member. Speaking to newsmen after accessing some projects in Taraba state, Obasanjo discredited claims that he was planning to return to the party.
"In the part of the country where I come from, there is a saying that you cannot say 'good night' and come back to say 'good evening' in the same place. So for me, it is good night for the Peoples Democratic Party and that's all" he said.
On February 16th last year, the former president supervised the tearing of his PDP membership card.

You lack moral basis to comment on Nigeria's economy- APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun tells PDP

Posted: 19 Aug 2016 08:18 AM PDT

APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, says the PDP lacks the moral basis to comment on the state of the Nigerian economy since it was the party's policies that led the country to its present state. Oyegun stated this in a statement he released by his media aide, Segun Dipe. Read the statement below...
The People's Democratic Party (PDP), which brought Nigeria to its present situation after 16 years of locust, lacks the moral basis and the credibility to comment on the country's economy or condemn a government that is working hard to clear the mess left behind by the disgraced former ruling party, according to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun.
In a statement issued by his Media Office in Abuja on Thursday, the National Chairman said it is stomach-churning and downright immoral for the ruinous PDP, which has yet to show remorse or exhibit any form of penitence for presiding over the mindless looting of the nation's treasury, to now put itself up as the saviour of Nigerians. Noting that even among thieves, there must be honour, the Chairman said Nigerians, who are now bearing the brunt of the economy that was mindlessly mismanaged by the PDP, cannot forget in a hurry that some $15 billion – which is about half of the nation's foreign reserves at the end of the tenure of the PDP-led Federal Government – was mismanaged under the guise of the equipping the military, when in reality the funds were largely salted away by PDP fat cats.
He said Nigerians are also not unaware that just before the last general elections, some $2.1 billion was shared out to just a few PDP faithful, either to be used for praying again Boko Haram or for phantom communication purposes, when in reality the soldiers whom the money was meant to equip were dying in droves. The Chairman listed other instances of the massive looting of the national till under the PDP, which never differentiated between the party's finances and the Nigerian treasury, to include: — The $20 billion in oil proceeds that was never paid into the Federation Account — The N33 trillion in national oil revenue that was not accounted for, considering that while the nation earned in excess of N56 trillion over five years under the last Administration, the total budget for those years amounted to about N23 trillion — The $47 million that was distributed to a few individuals just to oil the election process before the last polls.
He said while indeed it was glaring that the PDP-led Administration was profligate and rapacious, nothing prepared Nigerians for the mind-boggling discoveries that have emerged in the past one year, including the fact that just a handful of people could have plundered far more than half of what belonged to a country of over 170 million people! "What is happening now is clear: Just because the farmer has not checkmated the thief, he (thief) has become so emboldened that he is now making a move to even cage the farmer from whom he has been stealing. "How else can one characterize the most annoying statement by the PDP that it is on a mission to rescue Nigeria, the tale of a killer presenting himself as a life saver! Are these people jokers? Do they think Nigerians do not realize that the stage for today's tough economic situation was set by the same PDP that is now masquerading as a saviour? Worse still, is this PDP's bold face not a ploy to distract the Administration that is on a rescue mission? "Nigeria is currently in ICU (Intensive Care Unit), after it was rescued from PDP. Yet, the same PDP has the audacity to constantly pillory the 'doctors' trying to save the 'patient'," the Chairman said.
The Chairman appealed to Nigerians not to succumb to the antics of the PDP but to continue to support the efforts of the present Administration, which is working day and night to ease the impact of the tough economic situation on the citizens. "Yes, we knew the situation was bad, but we never imagined that it was this bad. Yes, we knew that the vast majority of our national patrimony had been stolen and converted by PDP and their cronies, but we clearly under-estimated the scope of the stealing. The fact that our country and people survived the PDP and the last administration is perhaps the 8th wonder of the world. "But we have long moved beyond bothering about this mindless party to seeking to bring the nation back to its feet.
What we cannot fathom is for the same PDP to now be heckling us and pretending to be the new saviour of Nigerians. "Engaging in a campaign of calumny by claiming that the country's economy under President Muhammadu Buhari was deteriorating is so unconscionable on the part of the PDP, which frittered away the huge windfall that the nation earned during the years that oil sold for over $100. Even with the number of PDP operatives and officials who have confessed or admitted their complicity in the looting of the treasury, the party has continued to try to pull the wool over the face of Nigerians. "This shameless distraction must stop forthwith, and here is serving notice that henceforth, the PDP will no longer have a field day in trying to twist facts and present the Buhari Administration, which is on an urgent rescue mission, as the villain," Chief Oyegun warned
