Femi Fani-Kayode still detained despite meeting bail conditions Posted: 17 May 2016 12:57 PM PDT Read the press statement below... We are appalled by this risible development but not surprised at all by it because that has been the hallmark of this current administration. Rather than work to improve on its reprehensible anti-democratic record, the Buhari-led administration has insisted on continuing in its self-engineered free nose-dive into the abyss of autocracy and the infamy of gross abuse of citizens' rights. This tactic of keeping key and vocal members of the opposition out of circulation without due regard to our laws and or harass them with charges that cannot stand the test of judicial requirements has got to stop. The sweet smelling savour of democracy will be polluted when the opposition is stifled. The continued holding of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode in EFCC custody for this long despite meeting his bail conditions goes a long way to show that this fight is not about corruption after all but all about silencing the opposition. We condemn in very strong terms these acts of intimidation and harassment and request that he be released forthwith even as we call on all well-meaning Nigerians to know who to hold responsible should anything untoward happen to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode! This act of executive rascality, at a time when Nigerians are groaning more than ever before over the economic hardship inflicted on them by this administration, is needless. It will achieve nothing but will only lead to a puerile end. |

NLC says it will continue with its proposed strike tomorrow Posted: 17 May 2016 12:23 PM PDT The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Ayuba Wabba says they will proceed with its planned strike despite this morning's injunction by the National Industrial Court restraining organized labor from embarking on its planned strike action tomorrow May 18th. The head of information of NLC, Benson Upah, in an interview with TheCable said "NLC's position has not shifted. The strike will go on tomorrow," he said. When asked if he could be quoted, he said: "Quote me the strike will go on tomorrow." The leadership of NLC say the take-off point for workers in Abuja is at the NLC secretariat by 8am. |
Posted: 17 May 2016 12:22 PM PDT "Mommy, the car is coming." Three-year-old Miriam Dansoko uttered these five words before she was tragically struck down while crossing a major thoroughfare in New York City's South Bronx community on Monday, May 16... According to New York Daily News, Mariam Dansoko, dressed in a navy blue school uniform, lagged slightly behind her mother, who was pushing a stroller holding another child as they walked across 164th St. in the crosswalk, police and witnesses said. Rougui Kebe Miriam's mother, was only a few steps ahead before she turned around to witness what would ultimately be another heartbreak. The little girl had released her mother's hand just after 8 a.m., moments before a 21-year-old man driving a Nissan Altima fatally struck little Miriam, according to the News. Witnesses told the news outlet that he swerved to avoid hitting Kebe, but did not see Miriam. Responders recall that the man stayed on the scene and was visibly distraught afterwards. "She was yelling, 'Oh, my God! My baby! My baby!'"" said Will Velez, a 56-year-old super at a nearby building. Before the car hits her, she said, 'Mommy, the car is coming.' She was right here on my back," recalled Rougui Kebe, who horrifically witnessed her younger brother being killed by a minivan in 2012. Kebe was 9 months pregnant with Miriam when she watched her brother Ebrahim die after he was hit by a minivan just a few blocks away in 2012. Ebrahim, 4, was playing when he darted into traffic. Kebe said she tried to stop him before he was killed. First responders rushed Miriam to nearby Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Kebe told the News that her daughter was an angel who loved school and Dora The Explorer. "She's an angel," her mother said. "She loves school. At school, she knew everybody's name. She liked everybody. She's so friendly." Kebe said all she can do is try to cope with the loss. |
Faction of NLC call off planned strike action Posted: 17 May 2016 12:42 PM PDT A factional president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, says his faction will not be participating in tomorrow May 18th planned strike action against the increased pump price of petrol. Speaking to newsmen in Abuja today, Ajaero said the present economic hardship many Nigerians are facing will increase if the strike holds. He accused the Ayuba Wabba led faction of the NLC of asking for a loan of N2 billion they took to buy houses to be written off by the government ... "When you are asking that the loan given to you in 2012, which had not been paid back should be written off, we believe that the action has already been sold out before it takes off. So, we will wait for our group to meet. But definitely, it appears that by ideology and every other thing, we can no longer meet. We thought we should have managed this in the interest of Nigerians but from the look of things, it appear we have to go our different ways. We have condemned the increase and called for negotiation and reversal. It was on the basis of our calls that this meeting was summoned for us to meet and find the way forward." While insisting that his group will not participate in the strike, Ajaero said, "If we wanted to be serious about an action, you can't call for an action on Wednesday. It is only an action that is sold out that is called for Wednesday so that by Friday, you say you have strike lethargy and call it off." |
Despite court injunction, NLC in Edo state says it will go on with the strike action Posted: 17 May 2016 12:38 PM PDT The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), Edo state Chapter, says it will go on with the Labor Union planned strike action scheduled for tomorrow May 18th. This decision comes despite the court order secured by the Federal government at the National Industrial Court, restraining the NLC and all its affiliates from embarking on any strike. Speaking with journalists in Benin city today, the state chairman of the NLC, Emmanuel Ademokun, described the court ruling as a black market injunction. "That order was a black market injunction and we are not going to abide by it. The strike will commence on Wednesday. As regard the Industrial court, we have never respected the order. The court restrained us from using the stadium. Oshiomhole was then the leader. We are going ahead to implement the strike and a directive has already been given from the national headquarters that the strike commences on Wednesday. There is no going back," he said |

Saved by the shortcut: The supernatural power of N150! Posted: 17 May 2016 09:11 AM PDT This is a sponsored post. Read below... I can guess how sad many of us look, that sorrowful demeanour and the silent but firm "damn!" when we open our wallets and clutches and find a hundred naira note tucked in the corner whispering over a zipper to another note both ridiculously summing up to only N150! After this piece you'll never look down on that N150 anymore! Now this is the genesis of this revelation! Sometime ago on this awfully bright day in Lagos (I'm sure you know what I mean), the officer in charge of the sun had gone on some wicked leave deliberately to punish the human race as I could literally feel fire burning in my cranium! Now I had a lot of meetings and a sensitization programme to attend to so you can imagine how many kilojoules, Kilowatts and kilograms of stress I was passing through. The usual me would have passed out (technically I did, *covers face*) as there was nothing that looked like help in sight. All of a sudden I saw something that altered the course of the masculine nature. Beautiful, attractive and outstanding! Now I'm not one to go for just anything I can't "taste" especially not in Lagos traffic but for some reason this one attracted me. To cut the chronicles short I approached this classy and stylish bundle of goodness (and mercy) and guess what guys???....there was no resistance! It was my first time (and became love at first sight) and the experience can be described as delicious, nourishing and refreshing. Funny enough the package was very handy and guess what??....it cost me just N150! Beat it pervs!!...it's the N150 Hollandia GoGhurtGrab'n'Go pack!!! Somebody say yaaaaaay!!! Trendy looking, great design and super vitamins to get you up and moving (I just couldn't keep it myself). So don't look down on that N150 anymore as it is the key to a brand new on-the-go kind of refreshment from the House of Chi. Get your N150 Hollandia GoGurt pack and don't carry last! See ya later! |

The suspect and others, who might be indicted in the course of police investigation,be charged to court without delay and his(their) details be sent to the Nigerian Bar Association and other concerned groups/bodies for necessary action," Adejobi saidHe will be arraigned in court soon. |

Why stress when you can lease it! Posted: 17 May 2016 08:56 AM PDT Sola had missed her co-worker's car because it took her a longer time to wade through the pool of water in front of her estate due to the heavy rain from the previous night. To make matters worse, her phone was dead so there was no way to plead with him to wait a while. Not again! She sighed in exasperation as that was the second occurrence in one week and she was not finding it funny. The thought of heading to the bus stop to hustle for bus at ridiculously expensive rates, sit in the tightly cramped vehicles and smear her well ironed skirt suit dampened her spirit. Completely tired of Lagos conductors and public bus troubles, she wished for her own car soon. However, the option of getting one immediately was farfetched because of the house rent and masters' fees she needed to pay in the course of the year. Sola's story is not unfamiliar. There are many people urgently in need of a vehicle to make their work or business commute easier, but cannot get it because of more urgent financial needs , coupled with the unfriendly exchange rates which has made the prices of vehicle skyrocket. Going through this situation? A Lease from Rosabon Financial Services, Nigeria's leading Non-banking Financial Institution is the solution you need!
