| Young mother of two beaten to death by her husband this morning at their home in Egbeda Posted: 06 May 2016 01:18 PM PDT  Around 7am, the couple's nanny came to the house to resume work only to find the house locked and no one was opening the door. She tried to call her madam but her phone was switched off. She peeped through the window only to find the couple's 6 and 4 year old kids crying and saying they couldn't wake their mum. By this time, neighbours had also gathered and they forcefully opened the door to find Ronke's lifeless body on the floor, blood gushing from her head. The husband, Lekan Shonde, was nowhere to be found. Ronke's phone was also missing. He'd locked the kids with their dead mum in the house and took off with her phones. Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary. She was in her mid-30s. According to family friends, Ronke suffered domestic violence in her husband's hands for many years but refused to leave the marriage. Sad it took her losing her life for this to end. Quite sad! Ladies, please say no to domestic violence. Please. No marriage is worth your life! |

| Lagos State Emergency Management say suicide victim is receiving treatment at a hospital Posted: 06 May 2016 09:30 AM PDT  "A man identified as Fredrick Gino, a foreigner from Cameroun climbed an electric pole in attempt to commit suicide, at Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase I. Reports from eye witnesses stated that he had been on the pole since 5:30 am. All efforts by the Community to bring him down proved abortive. However, the Agency's Officials in collaboration with the State Fire Service, was able to rescue the attempted suicide victim. In an attempt to rescue him, he sustained injury and immediately taken to Oba Yekini Elegushi Primary Health Care Centre, Lekki Phase I. The General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele said that security Operatives will conduct proper investigation on the matter. He advised people to be security vigilant of strange faces around them, as well as reporting such incident to security operatives or call the toll free line 767 or 112 for necessary assistance. According to Nine News, Lee allegedly spent £1.7 million in less than a year when she bought designer handbags and made cash transfers.  The girl who is also a chemical engineering student, was arrested by the Australian Federal Police at Sydney Airport on Wednesday night and according to the report she still owes about £1.7million to the bank. Lee appeared at Waverley Local Court on Thursday where she was charged with 'dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime'. According to the court, police were aware of the withdrawal of the money in 2012, but they only issued the arrest warrant on March 4 this year, but the girl's lawyer said she didn't spend the money illegally, and spent majority of the funds on designer handbags. There is hardly ever a Nigerian football team that does not have one or more "shitta bred". In recent times however, the zone has become perceived as an area where drugs, crime and hooliganism thrive. This perception though not entirely correct may not be unconnected to dearth of recreational facilities/ opportunities that will keep the youths engaged while also nurturing their skills. Enter, Shitta Progressives Football Association… The association was founded to create and maintain bonding and engagement platforms (via football) to draw the youths away from vices while also helping to nurture these talents. Our objective is to once again, begin to see these "street level" talents in Nigeria's Colors in the not too distant future. To achieve this, we established the Shitta Progressives Football Competition. This competition has been held bi-annually over the past 3 years. 8 teams participated in the inaugural edition of the completion. It has since grown into a 24 team competition with one team each from Mushin and Ilupeju also participating in the on-going edition. The tournament is tagged "D SPECIAL 1 CUP" The primary objective of the sponsor (SIMPLY KNOWN AS "D SPECIAL 1"), apart from being his own way of giving back to the society, (that has insisted on remaining anonymous from the inception) is to use to platform to reignite the passion for sports (especially football) in youths in Surulere. The friendly games are organised to prepare the Eagles when the African qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup resume in October and the NFF through it's Secretary General have said they will support the coaches in every way possible and not interfere with players' selection so that the Super Eagles will have the best possible preparation ahead of the 2018 World Cup. "The NFF will not in any way interfere in players selection for the World Cup qualifiers. Our mission is to assist the coaches in rebuilding a formidable Super Eagles… this is why we have organised warm up games for the team. The logistics needed to select the best available players has also been put in place to help the coaches," NFF Secretary General, Dr linSanusi Mohammed said during a press briefing.When asked why the NFF won't be making any money from the friendly fixtures which will be played away from home, Sanusi said; "It is not about the money. Everything we are doing is for national benefit, "Sanusi said.
