There's a particular masquerade in the south east, it takes 100 people to dress him, another 100 people to undress him. I worked in the airport for 10 years, and I know that if you want your passport stamped as a foreigner, you slip $100 into your passport. We must make a difference between tourist sites and tourist attractions; what we have in Nigeria are tourist sites. They are not tourist attractions. You need infrastructure to convert a tourist site to a tourist attraction. If you don't have infrastructure, it would always remain a tourist site, In Cross Rivers reserve park, Nigeria has the oldest forest in the whole world. It is the oldest in terms of biodiversity, and we have this very rare, white-mane gorilla in that area, but because my people in Cross River have decided to turn them to bush meat, they have now escaped."he said |

This is the first child for Paige but the ninth child for Eddie Murphy. His rep confirmed to E! News that Paige gave birth to their daughter 'Izzy Oona Murphy', this morning, and she weighed 7 lbs., 15 oz. and was 19.5 inches. "Both mother and daughter are doing well," the rep tells E! News. His children include the eldest - Eric, with ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely, and Christian, with ex-girlfriend Tamara Hood, Five more children with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell: Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. + 9-year-old Angel with former Spice Girls member 'Mel B'. |

| Buhari returns 2016 budget to National Assembly Posted: 03 May 2016 12:31 PM PDT  The re-worked budget was reportedly sent to Buhari in the early hours of today at about 1: 15am but was returned to the National Assembly at about 12.00 noon. A source in the presidency who spoke to Vanguard said "The budget got to the State House at about 1.10am and Mr. President went through it early this morning and still had some issues with some of the figures. I can not tell you exactly what it was but I think the insertions made by the lawmakers were not significantly altered. You know the lawmakers had moved some allocations for key projects that are dear to the president to other areas especially to their constituency projects. Of course, they have changed some but I believe Mr. President is not satisfied with the reconciliation they made. I think this is one of the reasons why it was returned. I can assure you, Mr. President is desirous to sign the budget because he is aware and has acknowledged that Nigerians are going through hardship. He is also concerned so if the budget is cleaned up this night and sent to him, he will sign it as soon as possible. That I know very well". |
| Billionaire Femi Otedola loses $400million in 9 weeks - Forbes report Posted: 03 May 2016 12:26 PM PDT  Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola has lost more than $400 million of his personal fortune over the last 9 weeks as the stock price of Forte Oil, the Nigerian-listed energy behemoth he controls, shed off 43.5% in value within that period. In late February the share price of Forte Oil hit an all-time high of N342 per share after the Lagos-based utilities and petroleum marketing company released its impressive 2015 FY results and declared an attractive dividend of N3.45 per share.However, as at close of trading today (Tuesday), its share price has dropped to N193.46 after recording consistent daily losses over the past few weeks. Otedola, who is the company's controlling shareholder, has seen his paper net worth drop from $1.6 billion when FORBES published its annual ranking of the World's Billionaires in March, to $1.2 billion today, according to the FORBES' real-time billionaire scorecard. A source at Forte Oil says that the drop in the company's share price is not unconnected to massive sell-offs of bonus shares from some of the company's retail investors. Last year, Forte Oil offered investors a bonus of 1 new share for every 5 ordinary shares they held. In total, Forte Oil declared roughly 216 million bonus shares for the 2014 business year. The bonus shares were only issued to investors a couple of weeks ago and they have been scrabbling to sell off their bonus shares on the market to cash in. This mass sell-off has precipitated the drop in the share price. "This is only temporary. As you'll see, even though investors are selling off their bonus shares, there are institutional investors who are buying up all the shares on offer as evidenced by the volume of the transactions in the last few days. When all those bonus shares are cleared up by institutional investors, you'll see the share price rising again," the source said. | Photo: Nigerian man ordered out of Republic of Guyana for illegal entry Posted: 03 May 2016 09:37 AM PDT  A Nigerian national was on April 5th given 24 hours to leave the Guyana (a sovereign state on the northern mainland of South America) after he was reprimanded for illegally entering from Brazil. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered Immanuel Dennis-Derry who lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to leave Guyana after he pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal entry. The city court heard that on March 27, at Lethem, Rupununi, Dennis-Derry, a trader, entered Guyana without presenting himself to an immigration officer. Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that 24-year-old Dennis-Derry, although a Nigerian national, acquired citizenship in Brazil, where he is currently living. On March 27, Dennis-Derry came to Guyana in a vehicle and did not present himself to the nearest immigration officer, the prosecutor added. Jeffers also told the court that Dennis-Derry was arrested in New Amsterdam, Berbice, where the police checked his passport and noticed that he hadn't presented himself to an immigration officer. Dennis-Derry was subsequently reprimanded and discharged by the Chief Magistrate, who gave him 24 hours to leave Guyana and go back to Brazil. |

| Saudi Arabia gives women the right to a copy of their marriage contract Posted: 03 May 2016 09:34 AM PDT  In a 'protect the rights of women & facilitate procedures for her', Saudi Arabia's Justice ministry has announced that Saudi brides will now get a copy of their marriage contracts, a privilege that was previously exclusive to just men. According to a directorate issued by the justice minister, Walid al-Samaani, clerics who register marriage contracts, must now hand over a copy to all brides in order for women to be fully aware of her rights and the terms of the marriage. This decision according to the minister, also took into consideration that a woman would need a copy of her marriage contract in case a dispute with her husband brings them to court.Source: theguardian.com |

| Lagos records first successful bone bridge surgery in West Africa Posted: 03 May 2016 09:28 AM PDT  The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in December 2015 carried out the first successful Bone Bridge Surgery in West Africa as well as successful Cochlear Implant surgeries on three deaf patients without the support of foreign doctors, the State Government said on Tuesday. The State Government, through LASUTH, also had its first successful Kidney Transplant carried out by the Hospital's team of Urologists and Nephrologists in November 2015 and discharged the patient in good condition on December 1, 2015, while another transplant is being planned. The State's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who made this known at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in commemoration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode's one year anniversary, said just in eleven months, the State Government recorded remarkable feats in the health sector due to the purposeful leadership and support of the Governor. He said in the period under review, LASUTH in collaboration with Vision Care and South Korean Community in Nigeria provided free cataract surgeries for 120 Lagosians and treated 250 outpatients between November 9 and 13, 2015 with 100 percent success rate, while under the blindness prevention programme, a total of 7, 250 patients with varying ophthalmic conditions were screened at 29 different community screening venues out of which 4, 867 representing 67.1 percent were given free glasses. The Commissioner said apart from the fact that LASUTH won several international awards of excellence in the period under review, the Departments of Internal Medicine, ENT, Psychiatry and Pediatrics were granted accreditations by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, while the first female Oncologist in Nigeria, Dr. Fatiregun Omolara emanated from LASUTH. While reeling out the various completed and ongoing projects in medical centres across the state, Idris said a new Critical Care Unit at LASUTH and Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has been practically completed and ready for commissioning, while the contract for renovation and extension of the Old Ayinke House has been re-awarded with immediate commencement of work, as well as the Psychiatry Ward. In the secondary health care, the Commissioner said projects already completed included the purchase of 26 Ambulances for General Hospitals and LASUTH, procurement and installation of 26 Mobile Toshiba X-ray machines, construction and equipping of Accident and Emergency Centre in Ikorodu General Hospital, construction of Sewage Treatment Plant in Apapa and Somolu General Hospitals, installation of internet facility at the Health Service Commission for improved effectiveness and seamless performance of its activities, while major renovation works are currently ongoing in all the general hospitals in the state, as well as LASUCOM and School of Nursing Hostel, Igando. Under the school health intervention programme, Idris said 16, 124 pupils in 33 public primary schools in 22 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the State were screened for medical, dental and ear, nose and throat morbidities, while 11, 327 were treated. He also said that 1, 718, 400 milk sachets were allocated to an average of 56, 297 pupils in 1, 018 schools across the state. "I want to use this medium to express the profound gratitude of the Ministry to the inexorable Governor Ambode for providing excellent leadership qualities towards making the health sector in the state compare favourably with international standards," the Commissioner said. Idris also appreciated contributions of donor agencies, development and implementing partners, WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF, PATHS 2, JICA, FHI/GHAIN, SuNMap, APIN, MSF, ALCO, IHVNEU-PRIME, Measure Evaluation, HSPF, MDCN, NMA, AGMPMPN, PCN, NANNM, Association of Laboratory Scientists and health workers across the state. | Motorist crashes his £200,000 car minutes after it's delivered to his home Posted: 03 May 2016 09:23 AM PDT A man accidentally crashed his £200,000 Mclaren supercar few minutes after taking delivery of it at his home. According to his neighbours, the delighted owner of the brand new car was seen happily celebrating with a bottle of champagne as the luxury ride was unloaded at his home. He then decided to take it out for a quick spin, only to be seen crashing into a tree on a nearby road in Hutton, Essex. The front of the Mclaren car was left in bits after a head-on collision & the rear of mid-engined car was damaged by a sign-post. Thankfully, the car owner & a companion safely exited without injuries. Essex police are now investigating the accident to determine who was really driving and what could have caused the car crash.
