Posted: 18 May 2016 12:49 PM PDT Beyonce showed up to the 2015 Met Gala in a stunning sequin Givenchy dress, wearing a high ponytail. A year later, 18-year-old high school student from St. Louis, Missouri, India Ross was inspired into making a reprica which she wore to her school prom. And not only did she she nail it, Ross also perfected Bey's ponytail and poses. She purchased the materials at Walmart, Michaels, and eBay, and with the help of a local designer named Toi Hall, along with Hall's brother, created the perfect replica. The teen even nailed Bey's slick high ponytail. The high school senior told Us Weekly that the dress cost $800 to make and was mesh with 2,000 hand-placed crystals, but it was all worth it at the end. |

Nigerian Army confirms the name of the rescued Chibok girl, shares more details Posted: 18 May 2016 12:33 PM PDT There was slight confusion when the Army initially confirmed that they had indeed rescued one of the abducted Chibok school girls, named Falmata Mbalala. This was contrary to reports that the girl was actually Amina Ali. The Army have corrected the mistake and released a more detailed statement. Read after the cut... • Please recall that we informed you that one of the abducted Chibok school girls has been rescued earlier today and promised to give further details. Further to that, in continuation of Operation CRACKDOWN, troops of 25 Brigade Damboa in conjunction with Civilian JTF deployed in one of the blocking positions at Baale, near Damboa rescued one Miss Amina Ali and a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be her husband. Both were brought to Headquarters 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa at about 2.30pm today. Preliminary investigation shows that she is indeed one of the abducted Chibok School girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on 14th April 2014 in Chibok and her name is Amina Ali as against Falmata Mbalala that was earlier stated. In addition, she is a nursing mother with a 4 month old baby girl who was named Safiya. Both the suspected Boko Haram terrorist and the nursing mother have been taken to Maiduguri for further medical attention and screening. Thank you for your usual cooperation. Posted: 18 May 2016 09:39 AM PDT Two women are currently fighting for their lives at MAZPA Specialist Hospital, Ukaegbu road, following a road accident involving a commercial bus and a Mack Truck. According to The Nation, the accident which occurred at about 3am Tuesday morning involved a commercial bus with Reg. number Abia 288 YG carrying seven passengers, heading into Aba, Abia State from Akwa Ibom State, and a Mack Truck with Reg number Rivers XY 713 PHC belonging to a yet-to-be identified construction company. "Eyewitnesses said they were attracted by the loud bang and on realizing it was an accident, rushed to the scene and assisted to take the injured victims to the nearby hospital where they until this report were receiving treatment. While two out of the victims were lying unconscious in their respective hospital beds due to the impact of the accident and severity of their injury while filing this report, others with minor cuts were nursing their injury at the reception hall of the hospital. Narrating how the incident happened to our reporter, Patience Abanjoubo said that they were coming from Uruakpa, Akwa Ibom State to go to Good Morning Market in Aba to sell Palm oil, fruits and vegetables that they harvested from their farms. Abanjoubo further stated that the driver of the commercial bus was subsequently taken into custody by the police." While attributing the accident to over-speeding and carelessness of the driver, the Aba Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), ACP Okora Awassam, however, blamed the inability of the said construction company's driver to put caution sign at the back of the truck to warn other drivers of the spoilt truck. Awassam warned both commercial and private individual drivers against over speeding especially at sharp bending corners and to overtake when the road is safe enough for them to do so. She also said that they would continue to monitor how the patients are responding to treatment. |

Posted: 18 May 2016 09:06 AM PDT The operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) yesterday, evening prevented a mother of four from committing suicide by jumping into the Lagoon with a 12 – month old baby. The lady, Halimat Adegoke (not real name), 27, was restrained by two Response riders from plunging into the Lagoon from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge. A cab driver had drawn the attention of the RRS riders on routine patrol of the area to Mrs Adegoke, who was carrying a 12 – month old baby at about past 5:00 p.m. when the incidence occurred. On interrogation at the RRS HQ, Adegoke noted that she trekked from Medina Estate in Gbagada to the Third Mainland. She noted that she heard a voice calling out to her to come to the Third Mainland Bridge. She pointed out that she decided to harken to the call because it was repeated and constant call out to her. Adegoke, a Unilag drop out, told RRS interrogator that before the incidence, she had issues with her husband before relocating to her parent's house in Gbagada, Lagos. The lady along with her baby have been released to her relatives this morning. |
European Union to pay £35million to 8 African countries in secret deal in a bid to quell migration Posted: 18 May 2016 09:06 AM PDT UK Daily Mail has disclosed a secret deal between the EU and the leaders of eight African countries in its bid to stop migration. Under the agreements, the countries get £35million to facilitate the prevention of migration to the EU. Apparently, the EU felt its reputation will be damaged if the deal became know and urged all parties to keep it secret. After the cut is how Daily Mail reports it... "EU chiefs have hatched a secret plot to work with African dictators to stop migrants reaching Europe, a leaked report has revealed. The plan would see £35million earmarked for eight African countries including Sudan which is ruled by accused war criminal President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. In return, they would be asked to intercept refugees heading to the Mediterranean and beyond. But the March meeting of 28 ambassadors, led by Germany, agreed that 'under no circumstances' should the public learn of the agreement. An aide of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini even warned that Europe's reputation was at stake if the details emerged, it was reported. The minutes of the meeting and other classified documents were obtained by German publication Der Spiegel and public TV station ARD. According to the report, the £35million would be used over three years to train border police and set up detention camps, mainly in Sudan. Other measures include installing cameras, scanners and servers for registering refugees to the Sudanese regime. But critics have attacked the plan for relying on a dictatorship accused of killing tens of thousands of people to now uphold the human rights of migrants. Marina Peter, an expert on the Horn of Africa region at the German relief organisation Bread for the World, told Der Spiegel: 'A regime that destabilised the region and drove hundreds of thousands of people to flee is now supposed to stem the flow for the EU.' Bashir, who has ruled Sudan since a 1989 Islamist and army-backed coup, has been accused by the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) of masterminding genocide and other atrocities in his campaign to crush a revolt in Sudan's western Darfur region. Experts estimate at least 200,000 people have been killed, although the Sudanese government says only 10,000 have died. A further 2.7 million people are estimated to have been uprooted by the conflict, which began when mostly non-Arab rebels took up arms against the government. The ICC issued arrest warrants for Bashir in 2009 and 2010, but the Sudanese President rejects the court's authority and has regularly flouted the warrants. Amnesty International has also accused the Sudanese secret service of torturing members of the opposition, while the United States claims the regime finances terrorism. The German Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development has confirmed the 'action plan' but says it has not yet been implemented. The German development agency GIZ is expected to coordinate the project. Sudan is key transit route for migrants fleeing countries such as Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea and the Central African Republic. From there, they make their way to Libya where they attempt to boards boats across the Mediterranean into Europe. |
