Niger Delta Avengers agree to dialogue with FG, list conditions

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 12:37 PM PDT

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, have released a statement indicating their willingness to negotiate with the Federal government. The statement released on its website today and signed by its spokesperson, Muduch Agbinibo, ‎reads;
"The high command of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is using this medium to restate that there are no new items to put on the table for dialogue; we only want a genuine attitude and conducive atmosphere that will make us commit to any proposed dialogue and lasting peace talk.
"We want the federal government to commit members states of the multinational oil corporations to commit independent mediators to this proposed dialogue; we believe that it is only such environment that will engender genuine dialogue that will be aimed at setting up a framework for achieving the short, medium and long term demands of the Niger Delta to de-escalate this conflict and bring about lasting peace.
"The NDA high command is restating our commitment to attack the interest of oil corporation and international refineries operators that bring in vessels to the Niger Delta territory to buy our oil that every successive government has refused to use and reapply the proceeds towards any development in the region since 1958. "Refusal to heed our advice will result to sinking of two their mother vessel as an example to others. They should not undertake any repair of pipeline, oil and gas facilities that are damaged or attacked by our forces during this period of 'Operation Red Economy' until and/or after the dialogue.
"We are using this medium to warn and condemn the activities of all brands of social media agitators being peddled around by some politicians to promote their criminal ways in affairs of the Niger Delta. This genuine spirit behind our struggle for the Niger Delta cannot be derailed on the basis of connivance by politicians, traditional rulers, settled ex-agitators and criminals moving around to fill their pockets.
"The issues of the Niger Delta are as old and as new as the days of Pa Dappa Biriye, Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro, Ken Saro Wiwa and the government of President Musa Yar' Adua. We are warning this government of President muhammadu Buhari not to turn the essence of genuine peace talk and dialogue to political jamboree that is prevailing now where all manner of social media agitators and criminals are being sponsored by the job-seeking corrupt political class to save face before the government of the day. "Finally, if need be, we may review our earlier stance of not taking lives.
We are going to redirect and reactivate all our activities if the government, oil companies and their service firms don't heed to these modest warnings of not carrying out any repair works, and suspend the buying of crude oil from our region as we await the right atmosphere that will engender genuine dialogue. We want peace with honour, not peace of our time."

Female tourist raped in Qatar fined £582 & given a suspended jail sentence for adultery

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 12:23 PM PDT

A 22-year-old Dutch tourist who was drugged and raped by a stranger in Qatar has been given a suspended jail sentence for adultery.

According to her lawyer, Brian Lokollo, she was on holiday with a friend and went out for drinks at a hotel bar in the Qatari capital on March 15. 'She went dancing but when she returned to the table after the first sip of her drink, she realised that she had been drugged.
She really didn't feel very well. The young woman remembers nothing more until the following morning when she woke up in a totally unfamiliar apartment and realised to her great horror, that she had been raped. The man insisted they had consensual sex and claimed the woman had asked him for money.'

After reporting the attack to the police, she was arrested and charged with adultery for having sex out of wedlock. The man she accused was sentenced to 100 lashes for adultery, 40 lashes for consuming alcohol but will not serve any time in jail. However, She was fined 3,000 Qatari riyals (£582) and told she would be deported after she had paid the fine.

Briefing reporters on the case, Dutch ambassador to Qatar, Yvette Burghgraef-van Eechoud said: 'We will do everything to get her out of the country as soon as possible to where she wants to go.'

Diezani reacts to Al Jazeera report, says even market women in Bodija have jewelry

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 11:52 AM PDT

Earlier today, Al Jazeera released a video report, claiming a house worth $18million and allegedly owned by Diezani had been seized by the EFCC in Abuja. They also claimed that jewelry worth millions of dollars belonging to the former Minister of Petroleum was also seized.

Reacting to the report, which has gone viral, Diezani said the report represented 'everything ridiculous and despicable about professional media practice and global best practices in the war against corruption.'. She said she's being demonized and that even market women have jewelry. Read the full statement personally signed by her and given exclusively to Signal after the cut...

My attention has been drawn to a report by Al Jazeera, which was released on Monday as a testament to the effectiveness of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its war against corruption.

In the video report, which has been widely circulated in the social media, there are claims about me owning a property in Abuja allegedly worth $18 million. The report, which represents everything ridiculous and despicable about professional media practice and global best practices in the war against corruption, is the latest attempt to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Clips of jewelry allegedly worth over $2 million were also copiously displayed as if to feed the cravings of an audience gratified with the notion that every wealthy Nigerian is corrupt.

This will not be the first time calculated attempts have been made to demonise and damage my reputation in the public space. Many times, my detractors have gotten away with these irresponsible smear campaigns because they have become accustomed to my characteristic approach of silence in the face of these callous attacks.

The latest in the string of propaganda attacks launched against my person since I left government as Nigeria's Petroleum Minister is this Al Jazeera report, which without any court conviction anywhere in the world attempts to dress Diezani Alison Madueke in the garb of a common criminal. This, to say the least, is the height of journalistic brigandage and a sheer mockery of Nigeria's anti-corruption war before the eyes of the world who are watching and asking if the war against corruption is a circus show where suspects are prosecuted and sentenced on the pages of newspapers and video blogs without anything as remotely in the semblance of a trial in the courts of law.

When did it become a crime to own a property in Nigeria? When did it become a crime for a woman of my status to have in her possession, jewelry? Jewelry, which women all across the world, including the woman selling tomatoes in Bodija market have in abundance in their closets? In which court of law, anywhere in the world was I prosecuted by the EFCC and found guilty of corruption?

With all sense of modesty, I say this only for posterity and for the records. I have strived within my means and the blessings of God to live a decent and accomplished life. I studied architecture in England and obtained a bachelor's degree from Howard University, United States of America in 1992. When I returned to Nigeria that same year, I joined Shell Petroleum Development Corporation. In 2002, I obtained an MBA at Cambridge University, United Kingdom. In April 2006, I was appointed by Shell as the company's first female Executive Director in Nigeria. In July 2007, I was appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua as Minister of Transport. The next year in December 2008 I became Minister of Mines and Steel Development. In April 2010, I was appointed as Minister for Petroleum Resources and served in that capacity till May 2015. During this period as Petroleum Minister, I had the honour of serving Nigeria and representing her in the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) where I was elected first female President. All through my career, I have strived to maintain a record of hard work, integrity and excellence, giving my best to society, because my parents raised me in the consciousness that a man or woman's greatness is defined not by the amount of wealth they have acquired but the impact of their service to God and humanity.

Coming at such a critical time in my life when I am battling cancer, this poorly executed propaganda bares on its face like tribal marks, a clearly malicious attempt to victimize an innocent woman in what appears an exaggerated plot to validate and give credibility to the anti-corruption crusade under Nigeria's new regime. People who are battling cancer or those who have lost their loved ones to this medical condition understand what I am going through at this time. This is what makes me ponder at the cold-heartedness of those who will go any length to defame and destroy in the name of propaganda. What happened to our shared humanity?

I have absolute regard for the law and believe that people who have breached the laws that govern societies should be made to face the wrath of the law. But in a civilized society, a responsible government owes its citizens absolute commitment to the principles of rule of law, equity, fairness and justice. I have been wrongfully and maliciously maligned and those behind this reckless action know it.

I leave them to posterity, their conscience and above all the Almighty God who is the final judge of all.

Microsoft buys LinkedIn for $26.2B in cash, as Bill Gates makes big move into social media enterprise

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 09:37 AM PDT

Microsoft, today, announced that it is acquiring LinkedIn, the social network for professionals with 433 million users, for $26 billion, on $196 per share, in cash. The transaction has already been approved by the boards of LinkedIn and Microsoft.

LinkedIn is keeping its branding and product. It will become a part of Microsoft's productivity and business processes segment. LinkedIn's CEO Jeff Weiner will report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Read the letter Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sent to employees about the buy after the cut:

Team,

I'm excited to share that today Microsoft announced a deal to acquire LinkedIn. You can see how Jeff Weiner, the CEO of LinkedIn, and I envision the opportunity ahead in this public presentation.

This deal brings together the world's leading professional cloud with the world's leading professional network. I have been learning about LinkedIn for some time while also reflecting on how networks can truly differentiate cloud services. It's clear to me that the LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business and an impressive network of more than 433 million professionals.

Given this is the biggest acquisition for Microsoft since I became CEO, I wanted to share with you how I think about acquisitions overall. To start, I consider if an asset will expand our opportunity — specifically, does it expand our total addressable market? Is this asset riding secular usage and technology trends? And does this asset align with our core business and overall sense of purpose?

The answer to all of those questions with LinkedIn is squarely yes. We are in pursuit of a common mission centered on empowering people and organizations. Along with the new growth in our Office 365 commercial and Dynamics businesses this deal is key to our bold ambition to reinvent productivity and business processes. Think about it: How people find jobs, build skills, sell, market and get work done and ultimately find success requires a connected professional world. It requires a vibrant network that brings together a professional's information in LinkedIn's public network with the information in Office 365 and Dynamics. This combination will make it possible for new experiences such as a LinkedIn newsfeed that serves up articles based on the project you are working on and Office suggesting an expert to connect with via LinkedIn to help with a task you're trying to complete. As these experiences get more intelligent and delightful, the LinkedIn and Office 365 engagement will grow. And in turn, new opportunities will be created for monetization through individual and organization subscriptions and targeted advertising.

Jeff and I both believe we have a significant opportunity to accelerate LinkedIn's growth and the value it brings to its members with Microsoft's assets and scale. In fact, when Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, and I spoke about the opportunity for us to come together, he called it a "re-founding" moment for LinkedIn and an opportunity to reach the mission the company set out on 13 years ago.

The opportunity for Office 365 and Dynamics is just as profound. Over the past decade we have moved Office from a set of productivity tools to a cloud service across any platform and device. This deal is the next step forward for Office 365 and Dynamics as they connect to the world's largest and most valuable professional network. In essence, we can reinvent ways to make professionals more productive while at the same time reinventing selling, marketing and talent management business processes. I can't wait to see what our teams dream up when we can begin working together once the deal closes, which we expect will happen this calendar year.

A big part of this deal is accelerating LinkedIn's growth. To that end, LinkedIn will retain its distinct brand and independence, as well as their culture which is very much aligned with ours. Jeff will continue to be CEO of LinkedIn, he'll report to me and join our senior leadership team. In essence, what I've asked Jeff to do is manage LinkedIn with key performance metrics that accrue to our overall success. He'll decide from there what makes sense to integrate and what does not. We know that near term there will be no changes in who reports to whom so no reporting relationships at Microsoft will change in that regard. This approach is designed to keep the LinkedIn team focused on driving results while simultaneously partnering on product integration plans with the Office 365 and Dynamics teams. During the integration, we'll pick key projects where we can go deep together that will ultimately result in new experiences for customers. Kurt DelBene will lead the overall integration efforts at Microsoft in close partnership with Qi Lu and Scott Guthrie.

I'm on the LinkedIn campus today in California and will host a call for investors at 8:45 a.m. PT with Jeff, Brad and Amy – please join if you can. Following that, I'll then spend the day meeting with the LinkedIn team. Tomorrow, I'll host a special Microsoft employee Q&A — I hope you can make it.

So far, what I've learned about the LinkedIn team is how much our cultures share many of the same attributes. We both care deeply about individual and collective growth, and find deep meaning in the work we do to make a difference in our world. Together we'll do just that.

While I'm in northern California sharing our vision to empower professionals, the Xbox team is in southern California at E3 sharing our vision to empower gamers. I encourage you to check out the E3 press briefing, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Finally, if you're not on LinkedIn, join up now and start using and learning more.

My journey so far with FlatTummyTea with Moringa

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 09:08 AM PDT

Looking good they say is good business. As an actress, looking good is in my best interest. Everywhere I go, I have to bring my A-game. From my style to my makeup, everything has to be on point. One area in particular that I work hard to maintain is my figure. I work out right and make sure that I eat right but with a schedule as hectic as mine, it is twice as hard to follow through with my routine.

That is until I discovered the magic of FlatTummytea with Moringa. Now I have heard a lot about different "natural" teas that promise to whip you into shape in seconds. I never tried them because I felt, what could be more natural than eating right and spending a couple few hours in the gym. But a friend of mine showed me the glowing FlatTummy tea testimonials online. I placed an order and that is where my story changed.

Within one week of using FlatTummytea with Moringa, the bloated feeling I used to have disappeared. I felt lighter and even more energised than ever. I also noticed that my crunches were having more impact because by week 2, my stomach was looking extra flat and more defined. By week 3, I had reached my flat tummy goals. I decided there and then to join the FlatTummyteam and have since remained in the best shape of my life.

The story doesn't end here though. Fashion week is coming soon and I cannot wait to get all dolled up to hit the red carpet without necessarily hitting the gym. In the meantime, I would love to hear your FlatTummytea journey. If you haven't placed your order, do so now and let's compare our stories.

'I almost got lynched yesterday' - LIB reader Onyx Godwin shares terrifying experience

Posted: 13 Jun 2016 08:14 AM PDT

Popular LIB reader, Onyx Godwin shares his very terrifying experience below...
It was rainy, and I was taking my little sister to go trim her hair at the saloon. I usually don't go outside anytime I'm in this area because of fear of getting lynched or attacked. It almost happened yesterday.
While walking with my sister, a guy told a bike man that I'm gay, and I want to f**k his yansh. He said it loudly, so I heard. The bike man in turn spoke Hausa to the other bike men around, and they were staring and started speaking in Hausa,i got scared, but had to walk anyway, immediately i walked past them, this guy shouted to this bike man, that "if him catch you, him go f**k your yansh o",the bike men were still talking and pointing at me,luckily nothing happened.
Walking back,in this same street, another guy stopped me,and said "why you dey shake waist waka?" I didn't answer, he dragged me back and say "i go treat your fuck up if you no talk", then i answered " God ",then he said " na lie,how God go create man when dey shake waist? If we catch you ehn,we go beat you die",then our tenant, a matured man,was walking down and saw me and my sister with them, and said they should leave me alone and i should go.
That was how i was "saved", this was a close call,i was really scared,i don't feel safe anymore,i can't even go out without fear,me and others like me need to be protected by our constitution, the 14yr jail term for homosexuality doesn't help at all, infact,it enables violence against effeminate men and even any body can be accused of being gay and be lynced effeminate or not.Because I'm effeminate doesn't mean i am gay, that's  totally biased and stereotypical, our government need to do something about this, what's the essence of a Democratic government if people who are different are not protected by law? #effeminatenotgay #
